Immortal - Part 23 - Tony x Reader
I would like to wish you all a very happy New Year. And also, to thank you for not only reading; but also following, voting and commenting. I really do appreciate everything.
Tony and (Y/n) sat in the darkened room, the old film of Howard being projected onto the screen. Tony choosing to watch the immortal, the smile never leaving her lips, as she listened to his father talk about the future, about his City of the Future, his City of Tomorrow. She had told him that the reel was made long after he had sent her away; when they had both moved on to a new life. But there was no disguising that she still had some kind of feelings for his father; it obvious in her eyes. (Y/n) chuckling, as Howard tried to get what he wanted to say, right.
"Oh my god, is that's you..............?" (Y/n) suddenly said, as a little dark-haired boy appeared at the back of the picture.
"Weren't you the sweetest thing............?" She continued, as she turned to look at the billionaire. Doing her best to ignore the fact that Howard was chastising him. That one of the crew had had to carry Tony away.
"I still am the sweetest thing............." Tony replied, giving her a broad smile, before indicating that she should look back at the screen.
"Tony.............." Howard began, as he looked into the camera. The immortal finding herself sitting forward in her chair.
"You're too young to understand this right now, so I thought I would put it on film for you. I built this for you, and someday you'll realize that it represents a whole lot more, than just people's inventions. It represents my life's work. This is the key to the future. I'm limited by the technology of my time, but one day you'll figure this out. And when you do, you will change the world. What is and always will be my greatest creation.......is you." Howard continued, smiling one last time, before the screen went white.
"I wish that he was still alive to see that what he believed, has come true." (Y/n) said, wiping a tear away from her cheek, before she looked to Tony.
"Even though I only saw your father one more time after I was sent away; I know he wanted nothing more than to have a son. In fact, we had spoken about it, before everything happened. We had made plans.............."
"Plans..............?" Tony interrupted, as he reached over and took (Y/n)'s hands in his.
"Yes. The night that that picture was taken, we spoke about all our plans, again. That when we had finished with Project Rebirth, and the war was over, we would disappear for a while; buy a ranch or a farm where we.........where he could grow old with me. Somewhere where no one would ask questions. Somewhere where no one would ask him why he had a beautiful young wife, when he was a white-haired old man. Somewhere we can really start trying for that son we keep talking about............our little Anthony..............."
"What........? You were going to call your son..............?'
"Yes. This was long before he met your mother, as I have said; but the name must have stuck with your father. We both knew that the plans we were making, were foolish. That even though we both wanted them to come true; that the idea that we could get horses and I could teach our son how to ride. I could show him how the Mongols would fire arrows while at full gallop. I could tell him about the rise and fall of empires. About the Seven Wonders of the World. About Kings and Queens, and all the other things that I have seen..................was nice; we just both chose to ignore the fact that nothing could ever really come of it. Children, not something that I have ever been gifted with the ability to have. Not that I would want to have children and have to watch them die..............So, when I heard the announcement of your birth, I was so happy for Howard. And when I read that he had called you Anthony............You know, he really was proud of you. When he came to see me a couple of days before his death, we spoke about you at length. He told me all about your achievements, about your graduation from MIT. He told me that he had made mistakes with you; that he wished your relationship could have been better. That even though he hadn't been the best at showing that he cared, just as in the film, he told me that he knew you would change the world; and I believed that he was right. Starks in my experience, have a habit of doing amazing things. Though, I know that you being Iron Man was never something that we had thought of..............." The immortal explained, as she gently squeezed Tony's hand. Not sure that it was the best idea to tell him that she and his father had chosen his name; but on the way back from the city, she had promised to tell him nothing but the truth about everything. So..............
"Tony................"
"Huh................?"
"The key.............." (Y/n) continued, as she looked into the box from which Tony had taken the old film. The immortal reaching in and picked up the shiny object.
"I never noticed that before............" Tony replied, as the immortal placed it into his palm.
"It.........it looks just like one that Howard left with me...........When he came to see me that day, it was.......it was strange now I think about it. He......his hands were......well, dirty. I didn't say anything at the time because I was just so glad to see him; but.........he asked me if I could look after it. Told me that one day ........" (Y/n) explained, as she quickly got to her feet.
"(Y/n) what................?"
"The key.........he left something..............."
"Left what................?" Tony interjected, as he too got to his feet.
"I don't know. But you and I are going to find out tomorrow.............." (Y/n) smiled, kissing Tony on the cheek, before suddenly making her way from the room.
