Trick or Treat

In the event of the apocalypse, there is one holiday that children will drag up from the depths of hell and cling to like a moth to a flame.

Halloween.

This year, Peter and Ned were staying home. Or rather, staying at Ned's house. This year they planned to hand out candy.

Ned decided to dress up as Nick Fury. That had made Peter smile, and though he knew he'd never say it out loud, Fury appreciated it too.

Peter was going to be Spider-Man.

As the daylight started to fade, the pair stood by the door with a bowl of candy. The doorbell rang, and Ned opened the door.

"Trick or Treat!"

Ned held out the bowl to the pair of kids and they each took a candy. One eyed Peter warily before asking, "is that the real Spider-man?"

"Yep!" Peter exclaimed, "that's me!" He held out his hand for a fist-bump, getting one from both kids before they left.

As they closed the door, Peter smiled through the mask.

An hour later, halloween was fully underway. The doorbell rang so much they just left the door open, handing candy to kids as they walked past, saying that yes, this was the real Spider-man.

"Keh," said a familiar voice, "like you'd know the real Spider-man."

"Back off, Flash," Ned warned the bully, frowning at him.

"Ha! Coward," Flash sneered.

"Aren't you a bit old to trick or treat anyway?" Peter asked.

Face contorting into anger, Flash growled, "aren't you a little old to dress up in a superhero costume? Lying to kids?"

That. That was what made Peter mad. Frowning at Flash, he grabbed the wall and climbed up onto the top of the doorframe. Looking down at the bully he said, "I'm not lying."

If Flash's face was anything to go by, he wouldn't be taunting Ned again anytime soon.

Ned laughed as Peter climbed down from the wall, Flash disappearing in, well, a flash.

"I feel kinda bad," Peter confessed, "even if he did deserve it."

"Hey, at least he'll leave us alone for a bit! And don't we have some candy to give out?"

"I suppose we do."

All in all, 10/10 Halloween.
