"Are you alright?"

Cayson Dorsey was a tired man. More than tired—exhausted. Enough so that he fell asleep in the hospital waiting room, which tend to have the most uncomfortable seats in existence. (Seem to, he notes, because planes happen to be much worse.)

"Oh, do you not speak English?" Cayson studied the boy standing in front of him as he blinked awake. "¿Habla Español?" The boy continued, "Ohayō gozaimasu?"

"English," Cayson groaned, raising his hand to rub circles into his forehead, "I speak English."

"Thank goodness. I was running out of languages," the boy let out a small giggle, smiling. "So, are you okay?"

"Yeah, yeah... I'm fine."

"Good." The boy held out his hand. "My name's Peter Parker. What's yours?"

"Dorsey. Cayson Dorsey." He shook Peter's hand, "it's nice to meet you. Do you work here?" He shook his head. "No, you don't. Far to young. You can't be older than, what, twelve?"

"I'm sixteen!" Peter exclaimed with mock hurt, "and no, I don't work here. But my Aunt May does. I just come to hang out with my friends."

Cayson raised an eyebrow. "Your friends?"

"Mhmm," Peter hummed, "Like Jacy Willis—an old lady with breast cancer, but she's really nice—and Clayton. He's only seven, but he's smart! He can already do long division!"

"He does sound smart," Cayson responded. He wanted to say more, but was interrupted as one of the nurses approached them.

"Are you Mr. Cayson Dorsey?" The nurse asked.

"I am."

The nurse nodded. "You can come back and see Ms. Amy Berry now."

Cayson stood up and gave Peter a short goodbye. As he followed the nurse down the hall, he commented the boy in question.

"He's very friendly—and knows at least three languages, that's incredible for someone still in highschool."

The nurse nodded. "Yeah. Smart enough to take college courses, according to his aunt. Creepy though. Says he can see ghosts. And sometimes? It seems like he can," The nurse paused, biting his lip. "But you didn't hear that from me. Anyway, this is the room."

Cayson thanked the nurse and entered the room marked 105.

A super smart, possibly enhanced kid? He'd have to mention that to Director Fury.

Jacy Willis - Died of Breast Cancer five years ago - Age 78

Clayton Skinner - Died of brain damage after a car accident six years ago - Age 7

Nick Fury growled at the papers he'd been re-reading for the past half hour. He glanced up at the hospital lobby. Ghost Kid should have been here by now!

He let out a short breath of relief when said child entered the lobby front doors, followed by a tall woman that Fury assumed was May Parker.

Once May had headed into the hospital ward Fury stood and approached Peter. The boy noticed him and gave a toothy grin. "Hiya! I'm Peter, what's your name?"

"Nick Fury," he held out his hand, "could we talk for a few minutes?"

"Sure Mr. Fury!"

The pair sat down in the lobby chairs, Fury tilting his head forward and speaking first. "You have friends here, right? Like Jacy Willis and Clayton Skinner?"

Peter's face immediately went cold. He scowled, eyes dark. "If you're here as some psychic investigator, then you can bippity-boppity back the fuck up because I'm telling the truth and no, I can't prove it."

Fury raised an eyebrow. "I take it you've had bad experiences in the past?"

"No shit, Sherlock."

Fury tapped his fingers on the chair's armrest before letting out a long sigh. "I'm not a psychic investigator. I heard you were smart, could talk to ghosts, and wanted to offer you a job."

Peter blinked, slowly drawing out his words. "A job..?"

"At an organization called S.H.I.E.L.D," Fury clarified, "the Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division."

"And that means..?"

Fury coughed, leaning back in his chair. "We investigate paranormal incidents around the world. Secretly," he added, seeing Peter's discomfort, "for the government. We aren't media here to exploit you, I promise."

Peter was silent. After a minute he spoke again. "What would I be doing for you?"

[[A/N I honestly don't know what SHIELD does so here's my guess based on the wiki page]]

"Well, you'd be trained in how to fight. You'd probably be talking to murder victims to help solve crimes, because of your abilities. Our particularly exceptional agents have worked with some of the Avengers in the past."

Peter stiffened, biting his lip. "And if I say no?"

Fury shrugged. "I leave and we pretend this never happened."

Peter nodded. He stayed quiet for a bit, before finally speaking again.

"I'll do it." He paused. "With one condition."

Fury nodded. "Yes?"

"I'm Spider-man, and I really need you to help me keep that a secret."
