Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall (Steve x Reader)
Into Each Life Some Rain Must Fall sung by Ella Fitzgerald and The Inkspots
You sit up and stretch in bed, slightly yawning. You furrow your eyes, confused about what time it could possibly be. Steve was missing from his side of the bed, which was typical, but it was still very dark in your room.
You exit the bedroom, your feet pattering on the hardwood floor. Steve was quietly sitting at the table, reading the newspaper. "Good morning." He greets, not looking up.
You glance outside, seeing he dark clouds piling up in the sky. "Good morning." You reply.
"Sleep well?" He asks, now setting down the paper and smiling at you. He picks up his cup of coffee, taking a sip.
"Yeah. It helps that it's rainy outside." You say, sitting down beside him.
He nods his head, understanding. "I'll go make you something to eat." He says, gently patting your hand.
You smile, watching him rise from his chair and start the stove. You peacefully watch outside the window, seeing the little birds hop around in the yard. You hear the eggs crackling on the stove, making your stomach growl.
"Here you go." He says, making you jump.
He sets down a plate with two over easy eggs. There's a piece of toast paired with strawberry jelly spread onto it. He walks back into the kitchen, grabbing a fork and getting you a glass of orange juice.
"Thanks." You say as he sits back down.
He sends you a gentle smile, his eyes gliding over your face.

Both of you were curled up on the couch. You leaned against his chest as he watched the news on the tv. "So," you begin, "you don't have to train or take up a mission today?" You ask.
"No. I guess everyone's feeling tired from the rain." He sighs.
"Rain doesn't make me tired." You say, picking at the polish on your nails.
"Me neither." He says, looking down at you. "I think it's peaceful. Good thinking weather."
You tip your head back, now able to see the blue in his eyes. "Right." You smile.
Everyone else you had ever talked to about rain always thought it was annoying. It was constantly ruining plans and making everything wet and gray. But, personally, you thought it was a nice change of scenery. It was like a nice wash for the earth.

A light pattering had begun. Small drops were growing numerous on the concrete just outside the patio window. Trails were starting down the window, catching your eye. Some birds were beginning to take flight to the safety of their nests while a few stayed put, letting the rain run down their backs and wings.
"Looks like it's finally starting." Steve says, leaning against the wall. You studied his face as he stared outside. Somehow, the gray seemed to bring out the blue in his eyes. You were able to see the muscles through his long sleeve shirt.
"Let's go outside." You say, grabbing his hand.
Without hesitation, he followed you. You quickly ran out into the rain and dragged two chairs across the cement. You placed them under the porch roof, keeping you both safe from the chilly rain.
"Thank you." He says, gently sitting down in chair you had grabbed him.
"It's nice to just sit and watch the rain." You say with a soft sigh as you sit in your chair. You both were sitting silently, listening to the patter above you. A soft smile rests on your face as you rest your head in your hand.
You jump, a loud scraping taking you from your thoughts. You glance over seeing, Steve struggle to scoot his chair closer to you. He chuckles, settling just a few inches from you. "Sorry. I just felt so far away."
"You just scared me." You say, watching a thought wash over his face.
"Be right back." He says, rushing into the house. You turn and look through the window just behind your shoulder. He rushes back out, carrying the record player. He sets it on the small table and plugs it into the outlet just beside the two of you.
"Steve, I don't think--"
"Oh, hush, (Y/N). I know what I'm doing." He waves away, his eyebrows furrowed in concentration. Cautiously, he places a vinyl on and a soft song begins.
He smiles, settling back beside you. "I think this is just perfect." He says, reaching out and grabbing your hand. He gives it a gentle kiss then rubs the back of your hand with his thumb.
You smile and close your eyes. You lean your head back, taking in everything. The pattering rain, the sweet smell in the air, the hum of the music, Steve's soothing touch. The feeling was indescribable.

You slowly blink your eyes, sitting upright. Steve was still rubbing his thumb on the back of your hand as he was reading a book. He had put the record player away. You had no idea how much time had passed, but the rain hadn't let up.
"Someone's finally awake." He teases, giving you a soft smile.
"How long was I out?" You ask, stretching and letting out a small yawn.
"Maybe a half-hour. Not long." He says, watching you stand up.
"Let's go get on our rainboots." You say, grabbing his hand.
"Wow, you're pretty energic after your nap. That's a first." He says as you drag him back into the house. You both put on your rainboots then pull on some raincoats. Once you were finally prepped, you ran outside, spending the rest of the afternoon jumping in puddles and splashing each other.
"Steve, stop. My socks are soaked." You lightly whine, a smile plastered on your face.
"This was your idea. Now I'm gonna take advantage of it." He grins, splashing you again, making you squeal and flinch.
"If you keep this up, you'll be sleeping on the couch." You laugh, pushing him away from you.
"Oh, (Y/N), you know you could never make me sleep on the couch." He says, grabbing your shoulders and pulling you closer.
"Yes, I could." You say, looking into his bright blue eyes.
"No, you couldn't." He lightly laughs, pulling your lips to his.
