Just Come Home (Tony Stark)

Song: Where's My Love? By: SYML

Two months after the events of Avengers: Infinity War

Ever since Tony Stark had returned from outer space, everything had gone downhill with the speed of a bullet.

The snap had affected everyone, regardless if they'd vanished or not. The government demanded answers from the Avengers, or at least, what remained of them. There was another world meeting in Vienna, not unlike two years ago, only this time, there were no accords to sign.

Tony had stood on a podium next to Steve Rogers, the man who'd torn his heart in two years ago, who he hadn't seen in years, much less talked to, and the man who'd comforted him after he'd returned with Nebula.

Tony began to explain what happened, and Steve picked up after him, telling them all a story from what seemed like a movie. By the end of there speech, the room was dead silent, dozens of government officials and presidents and kings and prime ministers.

The first time Tony heard what happened, who'd vanished along with Peter and Stephen and Quill and Drax and Mantis, he'd done his best to not burst into tears again.

But there were so many, too many. T'Challa, who Tony had only met once, was dead. The King of Wakanda, gone, left the throne open. His younger sister Shuri, who Tony had not met, reigned of the technologically advanced country. Though a little on the young side, from what hed heard, she ruled well.

Wanda was gone, along with Vision. Tony hadn't even been able to say goodbye. Sam. Bucky. Nick. Maria. All of them gone. And the countless other people who'd disintegrated alongside them. Tony spent hours on his own, wondering where they'd all gone.

And then there was her.

Tony started dating the brunette years ago, even before the Civil War between the Avengers. She'd pushed him down a flight of stairs.

Quite a way to meet.

After the incident, Tony took a sudden interest in her. It wasn't every day he got pushed down a dozen stairs by a lady. He hadn't even gotten her name, so with some persuasion with Jarvis, he'd gotten the A.I. to look her up.

And then he showed up to her house with flowers and an invitation to dinner on the roof of the Avengers Tower.

She'd laughed about it with him afterward, telling him it wasn't the most absurd first date she'd been on. And ever since then, it was a running joke between the two of them to find the most absurd places to meet up.

Cold bones, yeah, that's my love

She glides away, like a ghost

And he hadn't seen her for two months, ever since he returned. It was driving him absolutely mad.

As soon as he returned, and everything had been sorted out with the world leaders, he rang her phone on the way out to his car.

She didn't pick up, and he shrugged it off at the time. Waiting for an astonishing ten minutes before calling again. Still no answer. Then he'd gone back to the Avengers Tower, expecting to see her in the living room on his floor. No such luck.

Does she know that we bleed the same?

Don't wanna cry but I break that way

Then he tried his bedroom, their bedroom- nothing. Panic now settling in, he combed the entire floor, then the entire tower. He had Jarvis do a double and triple check as well, with no results.

Tony was having trouble breathing by then. Next, he called her sister and brother, one of whom did not pick up. Her brother however did and answered in a teary voice.

Tony asked, in an equally teary sound, if he'd seen her in the last two months. He hadn't, he'd been too wrapped up in his sister's and father disappearance and funeral. Tony felt his heart plummet. Where else would she be? There wasn't anyplace he could think of that he knew she'd be.

His last resort involved Steve, Bruce, Rhodey, and Natasha. He'd asked them all in desperation, in pain, in heartbreak, to call anyone they knew to find her.

Cold sheets, oh, where's my love?

I am searching high, I'm searching low in the night

And still, nothing. It broke his heart, more so that it was before.

So now, Tony sat on the roof of the Tower, the same roof where he fell in love with a woman he could no longer find. He drank a swift swig from the scotch bottle resting next to him. The alcohol burned a trail down his throat, but it helped him forget. His feelings and heartbreak were drowned for a handful of hours, and that was what he needed.

Tony picked the glass bottle up again, spinning it in his hands, absently gazing at the labels and barcodes.

In a sudden fit of rage and frustration and sadness and the need to do something, Tony threw the bottle as hard as he could toward the opposite edge of the roof.

The fragile glass shattered into dozens of pieces, all varying in sizes on impact. Tony sighed, breathing hard, and did his best to rise to his feet without stumbling for falling over. With so much practice, you'd think he'd be able to hold his alcohol well.

He walked over to the shards of silvers, scattered like stars on the grey cement roof, and looked at them with some sort wonder. Or maybe it was just the alcohol getting to him.

He knelt down and picked up the biggest shard he could find. It was about half the size of his palm and when he turned it in his fingers, it sparkled in the fading daylight.

Tony rotated it again, and this time, a drop of blood snaked down his wrist and dropped the stone. It stood out, just as she did.

I got a fear, oh, in my blood

She was carried up into the clouds, high above

A thought that been nagging him for the past week reared its head and scratched at his conscious.

What is she was really gone? Just like all the others?

The idea snaked into his head weeks ago, when he still held hope that she would come back. He couldn't decide which was worse: Wondering if she was dead, or wondering if she was still alive, but never coming back.

The thoughts brought tears to his eyes, and Tony squeezed the glass shard in his hand, and more drops of blood dropped to join the first. Anything to distract from the emotional turmoil.

If you bled, I bleed the same

If you're scared, I'm on my way

He stood up again, letting the glass fall and shatter again, and walked over to the ledge where he'd previously been. Tony ran the hand not covered in blood through his hair and sighed deeply. How easy would it be for him to just drop six-thousand feet? He'd just have to tip his balance forward in the slightest and the ground would be rushing up to meet him.

The end would be quick, from this height, like a snap of his fingers. The view was fantastic as well if this was the last thing he saw, he might just die with a smile on his face.

Then again, her face would be the last he'd want to see, then he'd really be able to die happily. Or just not die at all.

Did you run away?

Did you run away? I don't need to know

If you ran away

If you ran away, come back home

Taking a deep shuddering breath with alcohol coursing through his veins like lightning, Tony stepped onto the two-foot ledge, toes dangling over the edge. God, what he wouldn't give for a quick end to his pain, alcohol gave him a brief pause, but it was never enough. Even Pepper did her best to comfort him, but even she couldn't help.

The only one that could, was most likely dead, unable to come to his aid.

There was another perk of his death: If she really was dead, he could see her again. Good God, what he wouldn't give to kiss her again, to run his finger through his hands through her hair again, to see her smile again.

Another deep breath and Tony closed his eyes, then opened them again. No, he wanted to see his last moments, he wanted to be able to see the New York skyline framed by a sunset, like something from a picture.

Goodbye Pepper.

Rhodey.

Steve.

Nat.

Bruce.

May.

Hello Peter.

Stephen.

Sam.

Wanda.

Vision.

T'Challa.

"Hello, love, " he whispered, smiling. Tony spread his arms out to his sides, like a bird taking flight.

"Hi, Tony." His eyes widened at the sound of a voice, coming from the far side of the roof, where the entrance was. His arms fell to his side and his mouth opened in the slightest. It couldn't be, he didn't dare believe it.

But to his disbelief, there she was. Her arms were crossed, a small smile danced across her face, and the curtain of chocolate brown hair danced in the wind. The blue-green eyes he spent hours gazing into stared back at him, full of mischief and playfulness and joy.

She waved, she waved at him. "You going to come down from there?" God yes, she was here

"Florence," Tony said her name like a prayer and leaping down from the step and ran straight into her arms, he wrapped his own hands around her, not planning to let go for several hours.

She embraced him just hard, breathing into his shoulder as Tony felt another tear trickle down his cheek and onto her shoulder.

"You're here."

"I'm here."

Just come home
