The Party Animal Is a Softy (Tony Stark)
WARNING: CONTAINS SOME SPOILERS FROM INFINITY WAR. READ AHEAD AT YOUR OWN RISK (also contains some stuff on what i wish would happen in Avenger's four)
Pepper walked back into their room, putting down her dress from the party and slipping into her pink pajamas. Tony was still at the party, which wasn't surprising by the slightest. Pepper knew him too well to fall for that trick. Even though they were married now, Tony still held on to the party animal part of his life.
Sighing, she sat on her side of the bed. "Jarvis, you there?"
"Yes Mrs. Stark, I'm here. Can I help you with anything?"
Pepper tilted her head and smiled at the picture on their dresser of Tony and her at their wedding, Tony wearing his classic smirk, as they grinned at the camera. A small sense of loneliness filled her heart. "Yes . . . can you call Tony for me? Ask him when he'll be up. Tell him his wife misses him."
Jarvis laughed in somewhat of a robotic way, before agreeing to the task and going off to call her husband.
Regardless of what people might say, Pepper knew that there was so much more to Tony than just his suits and humorous personality. They had been married only for three months, but already Pepper was sure it was the best decision she had made in her life. And through all of this time, after years of knowing Tony, she had grown to long to be around him, to almost crave his presence. Which was odd, because she never felt that way about anybody.
So tonight was another one of those occasions. It was a Saturday night (well, now Sunday morning) in late November, nearing the winter season. It was very cold outside, and the trees were almost all bare. And it didn't help that they were in New York, where it was definitely colder. The Avengers had organized a 'house party' for no apparent reason, inviting literally everyone that they knew for the weekend. Aside from Parker of course, due to the amount of alcohol that would be consumed during the party. Pepper didn't mind being in New York, but she missed the warmer climate of Malibu.
As expected, Pepper was the first to leave, because she wasn't as much of a party animal as Stark was. And of course he and everyone else were still down there, even though it was past one o'clock. Pepper had naturally guessed that Tony would be drunk about twenty minutes into the party, but to her surprise, she had been wrong. He had actually lasted almost two hours. Either way, even after daring to stay this late, she knew that she had to leave sooner or later. She didn't want to be around a bunch of drunk super-humans.
She laid down on their bed in their temporary giant room in the Avengers' facility, gazing through the windows and at the stars above. It was crazy, she thought, that just about a year ago Tony and his crew had defeated Thanos and revived half of the universe, and now here they were, back to partying like no tomorrow.
That's the Avengers for you, I guess.
Pepper was interrupted in her thoughts when Jarvis' accented voice rang out. "Mrs. Stark, Mr. Stark did not answer our call, so I pressed on to call Agent Romanoff afterwards, assuming she wouldn't be as intoxicated. She answered, and stated that Stark was currently chasing Captain Rogers around the room with a disco light in his hand shouting, 'let's dance Capsicle! Bring it on Star boy!'"
Pepper laughed and put her head in her hands. Oh Tony. "Thank you Jarvis. Be sure to call back Natasha and tell her to send him up after he stops drinking. Which I assume won't be till tomorrow night."
"Yes of course, Mrs. Stark."
Pepper turned over on her side, pulling the comforter up to her chest and closing her ocean blue eyes. Slowly but surely, she drifted off to sleep, dreaming about all the wonderful moments she had shared with Tony.
The next morning
Pepper awoke to the bright sun shining through her eyelids, and she let her eyes flutter open. She was facing the window, but turned around to feel for Tony. Her hand came into contact with his shoulder before she could turn her gaze to the other side of the bed. The touch was electric, as it always had been, and it satisfied Pepper to know that Tony was still here, in her presence. Tony was facing her, his eyes sealed shut, his mouth slightly open as his stomach moved up and down with every breath. Every once in a while a light snore would escape his lips, which made Pepper smile. He had a AC/DC shirt lazily thrown on his chest, and he still smelled thickly of alcohol. She ran her hand through his hair softly for a few minutes, before sitting up in bed and yawning.
Tony still seemed to be sleeping soundly, as he probably would for the next few hours, especially after last night's party.
Pepper yawned again, tiredly asking Jarvis for the time. "8:47 a.m, Mrs. Stark," he answered her quietly, making sure not to wake the sleeping Tony.
"Thanks," she whispered lazily. She proceeded to slip out of bed quietly, and tip-toed to their closet to slip into some loose sweat pants, and another one of Tony's AC/DC shirts. She then stalked to the bathroom. She knew that she was going to have another lazy day, so she just combed her hair through without doing anything to it. Going to sit on the corner of the bed, she picked up her phone and settled on going through her e-mails, always wanting to stay on top of business even when she was on 'vacation.'
By the time Tony had begun to stir, it was almost eleven, the sun now completely shining through the glass windows. After scrolling through her phone for a half an hour, Pepper had gotten up and paced over to the tiny kitchenette they had in the far corner of their room, digging out a blueberry muffin from the small food cabinet.
Pepper was sitting in a chair near the kitchenette when she heard Tony turning over and adjusting the covers.
"Morning," she spoke softly after she knew he was awake.
"Morning," he spoke back in between a long, deep, yawn. "Jar, time?"he asked the AI after a pause.
"10:54 sir."
"Thanks." He slowly stood, heavy dark bags under his eyes.
"So," Pepper started. "Have fun last night?"
"I uh . . ." He answered tiredly, rubbing his eyes.
Pepper couldn't help but laugh. "I heard all about the stuff you did from Natasha," she smiled. Nat had texted Pepper at around 10:30 that morning, filling her in on all the stuff that she had missed last night by turning in 'early.' Those things including, flying around in his suit doing flips, hiding under the table and grabbing people's feet, running around with a clown nose and a red balloon screaming ' Pennywise, Pennywise,' and a bunch of other disgusting, odd things.
Tony scratched his head as if he didn't remember correctly. "Huh," he sighed, walking over to Pepper. "I don't remember anything. Not even how I got to bed."
"That's because you didn't. Natasha and Clint had to help you get back to the room." She exhaled. "And by help I mean drag your drunk and unconscious self to the bedroom, and get you into your shirt and pants."
Tony put his hand over his mouth as he snorted a laugh. Still sounding tired, he said, "and where were you last night? You left early."
Pepper shook her head from side to side as she took the last bite out of her muffin. "You know me, honey. I'm no party animal."
"Uhuh," he smiled, walking up to her to stand at her feet. "Well . . . I missed you dear," he smirked, adding a wink.
Pepper let herself smile as she stood to square up with Tony. "Did you now?" she said in a playful baby voice. "Did the big Tony Stark miss me? Is the party animal really a softy?"
"Wha - no. I'm not a softy. I'm Tony Stark."
Pepper smiled warmly, loving the fact that she had hit Tony in his weak spot. "Yes, I think you are, my dear," she said in another baby voice.
"I. Am. NOT. A. SOFTY," he said sternly, but a smirk spread across his tired face.
"Sure . . . sure," Pepper went on, wrapping her arms around the back of his neck and pulling herself closer to him. She closed her eyes and felt his breathe on her face, making her smile. She heard him yawn again, as he wrapped his hands around her back and pulled her closer to kiss her on the lips.
They stood there for a while, their lips locked, before finally separating. When they broke, Pepper pulled Tony into a strong embrace, letting her head rest on his shoulder. She loved this; being here, with him. It was all she ever wanted, all she ever would want.
Tony's hands slowly patted her back, as the two companions stood there for minutes at a time, just standing there, in the morning light. I could stay here forever, with him. And she felt that that was the truest statement ever to be spoken.
