Always Here (Wanda Maximoff x Vision)

A/N

Hey guys so be prepared for this one . . . it's going to be sad. Takes place obviously after Infinity war and Avengers four (spoiler ahead) where everyone who turned to dust is resurrected (my opinion/theory). I'm sorry that this is sad, (another spoiler ahead) and Scarletvision is one of my favorite ships, so it broke my heart to see Vision die. Note that this obviously contains major spoilers for Infinity war. Thanks.

This Chapter's quote: "It's as I said. . . catastrophe."

-Vision

Wanda laid awake, tears falling gently down her cheeks. She stared at the ceiling, not wanting to leave, not wanting to go anywhere. She felt like she was dying from complete heartbreak. She squeezed her eyes shut as a wail escaped her parted lips.

She wished she could stay here forever and ever; she wished she could erase her mind; she wished she could die and not feel guilty; but most of all, she wished she could bring back Vision.

That name. Vision.

It was the only word she could speak, the only word that formed on her lips. She had been entirely mute for almost a year now, only speaking that six letter name.

She couldn't escape the despair that fumed within her; the regret and the sorrow that slowly ate away at her soul. Her last memory of Vision: killing him with her own magic, only to find her efforts were in vain; Thanos had found a way anyway.

She turned over to scream into her pillow. Everyone tried to lure her out, but to no avail; she refused. They had done everything they could to mend her shattered heart, but nothing worked. She was too far gone. She refused to believe that anything could save her.

She awoke with the constant memory of that last day with him. She was scared to open her eyes, for everything she saw reminded her of him. And yet she was afraid of closing her eyes, because of the images that would unfold through her eyelids. She was terrified of falling asleep, because of the never-ending nightmares. So you can say she was afraid of living, yet afraid of dying as well. She had nowhere to go, no one left to turn to.

She screamed once again into her pillow, tears now heavily falling down her face and soaking into the fabric. She had lost too much; first her parents, then her brother, and when she thought nothing could get worse, Thanos had taken the last thing that meant anything to her – Vision.

That name. Vision.

Vision. It replayed in her head over and over, the sound beating like a drum till she thought her ears would bleed and her head would explode. The sound of his voice; oh how she longed to hear his voice again; to hold him close to her; to love him; to feel him; to kiss him. She would do anything, give anything, to have those things back.

She sat up straight in her bed and let out a horrible scream, as if she was being murdered slowly and painfully. A slow knock rapped on her door.

"Wanda . . . can I come in?"

It was Natasha. Or, that's what it sounded like.

Still she refused to speak, squeezing her eyes shut and continuing to wail. "Come on Wanda, open up."

Wanda tugged hardly at her hair, remembering how Vision used to hold her close, how he would softly rock her to sleep, how he would twirl his hands in her rosy red locks, how his voice would soothe her when she was sad.

And the place in her heart where Vision had once filled, was now a vast empty void, leaving the rest of her heart to fall apart like dominoes.

She squeezed her eyes even tighter till it hurt so bad she felt like gouging them out. She didn't care. The pain was nothing compared to what she felt inside.

But then, she heard something she never thought she would hear again.

"Wanda . . ."

Wanda put her hand over her ears, trying to shut the voice out. This had happened before, hearing his voice echo in her head, almost as if he were standing in front of her.

"Wanda . . . listen . . . I don't have much time."

She still didn't open her eyes as she pressed harder into her ears, but his soft voice never left her side.

"Stop resisting, my love. I am here, please listen. Open your eyes, Wanda."

She wailed as loud as she could, so loud that she swore her throat began to bleed.

"Wanda stop! Please do not grieve any longer . . . it pains me to see you like this."

Then she did something she hadn't done in a while. She screamed at the top of her lungs in between tears; "GO AWAY! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"

She flipped back over and dove into the pillow, crying so hard she felt like her whole body would explode into nothingness. And at that moment, she wished very well that it would. She needn't to be here any longer; she couldn't bear the pain that haunted her every day.

"Wanda, my dear. Please open your eyes."

She tried as hard as she could to shut it out, but the voice in her head was persistent, and didn't give up until she sat up again. Slowly, she opened her eyes, her breathes coming in quick rasps.

At that moment, her lungs felt like they would collapse in on themselves. Her eyes began to swell yet again, her hands slowly tracing their way up to cover her mouth in shock.

Standing in front of her, was Vision, just as he had looked back in Scotland years ago, in his more human form. A faint light pulsed slowly under the skin in his forehead, reminding Wanda that this was surely a dream, that the stone couldn't still be with him.

She was at a loss for words, as she sat there in complete shock. Vision looked to her softly, his eyes never leaving hers. "I am here, my darling."

Another tear escaped her swollen eyes. She knew that his was just a nightmare; he couldn't possibly be standing here, in front of her. He was dead . . . gone . . . lost.

But then how did this seem so real? She felt as if she could reach out and touch him, but her body wasn't listening to her; she couldn't move. The lovers sat there and stared into each other's eyes for a long while, before Vision spoke up. "Wanda . . . I know how implausible this all seems, but you have to believe me when I say this is real."

Finally the witch found her voice, though it came out hushed and scratched. "Vision . . . h-how did y-you . . . h-how are y-y-you h-here?" she searched for an answer in his eyes, finding nothing.

"That does not matter now; what matters is that I am here, and I've missed you terribly. I am so sorry that I have put you through so much pain these past years."

The shattered pieces of her heart felt as though they had been further stepped on again. "It was more t-than just pain," she started shakily, trying to find a shred of confidence. "It was murder. I-I've been h-here for s-so long, grieving y-you, and I . . ."

She found it too hard to continue, and her head fell into her hands as she resumed crying. But somehow, there was something in her that told her that this wasn't a dream . . . it told her that her only love was actually here, and that this was indeed real.

She wanted to believe it so bad – she truly did. But she just – couldn't. It simply wasn't possible. He couldn't be here. She had watched him die . . . twice.

She felt the bed creak softly to her right, before cold arms rested on her shoulders. The touch sent fire erupting through her body, like a match reignited. Her heart fluttered back together almost, and slowly she lifted her head, starting to believe that Vision really was back by that simple touch.

He looked down to her with emotional pain evident in his eyes; his arms slowly rubbing her back. His hands were cold, his skin pale white, almost as if the life was drained out of him. She then recalled where she had seen him like this – after Thanos had ripped the stone from his head. She winced.

And yet; she felt her heart being mended, just at the feeling of him sitting next to her. Another tear fell from her eyes, only to be wiped away by Vision. "I'm here, my love."

"But . . . how?" she asked, her voice shaky and pleading, like she never wanted him to leave, which, she didn't; she wanted him to stay here forever.

"Like I said, it doesn't matter." He sighed quietly before turning to her again. "But I cannot stay long, I'm terribly afraid. I have come to warm you for tonight, and tonight only. I'm sorry."

Wanda thought her heart would crumble apart again at those words, but it didn't. All that she cared about was this moment, right here, right now. "I-I don't care. I need you now Vision. I have been alone a-all this time, living with the thought that I would never, ever see you again . . . and now I . . . s-seeing you now, it's enough."

Vision smiled so warmly after that, making Wanda feel as though for a moment everything was alright. His hand caressed her cheek slowly, his eyes traveling from her eyes to her lips and back again. She smiled back, as one final tear slipped out against her will, once again to be met by Vision's cold, calming hand. He pulled her in as their lips locked. The same fiery feeling shot through her body so fast, sending shivers down her spine. Wanda let herself relax as she poured everything into the kiss – her pain, her sorrow, her will, her regret; everything.

She had known Vision for so long, but being here, now, was by far the best moment of her life. For once in a really long time, she felt whole again, like she was complete.

She let her hands slide up to his soft silky hair, as she continued to kiss him. They only parted to catch their breath, before interlocking their lips again. Wanda had insisted that he laid there with her, encouraging him to talk to her till she fell asleep, missing the sound of his voice.

She had then realized as she drifted into peaceful sleep that she had gotten everything she wanted in just a matter of an hour – having Vision back at her side, holding her close, speaking softly to her.

And so for the rest of the night, she laid there with her eyes softly shut, listening to the soothing sound of her partner's voice.

The Next Morning

Wanda awoke beside Vision; he was laying right there, facing her. She smiled wide as she stroked his cheek, feeling nothing but happiness. As much as she knew this was impossible, she just couldn't let go of the fact that he was actually here, right next to her.

His eyes fluttered open, smiling as soon as he saw her. She pulled him in so their foreheads touched. "I love you," she said.

"I love you more," he sang softly back. But suddenly the smile faded from his lips, and Wanda knew almost right away what he was going to say next. "I'm afraid I must go, my love. I have already stayed longer that I anticipated."

"Why do you have to go?" she questioned sadly. "Stay."

"I can't, my darling. I am dearly sorry."

"No – you have to stay," she shot back, feeling her still red eyes start to swell again. Almost immediately the feeling of loneliness snuck back into her heart. But she refused to believe it. This was too perfect. "Please, Vis."

He stroked her hair softly. "My love, I know how much pain you have endured these last years. But please . . . do not take this as pain again. Embrace the fact that I am gone now . . . I am still forever in your heart." He placed one finger in the middle of her chest.

A tear escaped her eyes. "Vision don't leave me again," she pleaded.

"I never left," he purred back. "I have never left you. I am always here, even when I am not."

"That doesn't make any sense," she started to sob.

"Trust me, my darling, that everything will be alright. You have to believe that I will always be with you. I need you to be strong, even when it is hardest."

"NO Vision! I won't lose you again! Don't leave me, please! You can't! I can't survive without you here! Please, don't do this!"

"Wanda . . . I love you more than you will ever know. But I have overstayed my welcome."

"Don't," she cut him off. "Please. You can't go. You have to stay, you just have to."

"I have done my part in this world," he continued anyway. "You and the Avengers are here now in my wake. The universe needs you, as it always will. You must protect those that can't do it themselves."

She sobbed, closing her eyes. Vision pulled her closer, so her head rested on his chest. "I am always with you, remember that. Be strong for me, just as we used to."

She dug her head into his chest, gripping his shirt with her fists. The pain in her heart started to grow again. But as hard as it was, she knew he was right. She knew that Vision's return hadn't been a dream, but she had understood why he had come, and why he now had to go. He knew she was hurting. Even as she felt her heart start to crumble again, she said, "Promise me one thing."

"Anything, Wanda."

"Promise me that you'll give me a sign that you're here with me, even when I can't see or hear you. Please. It doesn't have to be big, just something small so that I know."

"Wanda, my dear," he started sincerely. "You don't need a sign to know that I am here with you. Even when you can't see me, I'm always here. Right here." He proceeded once more to point to her heart, before giving her a tender kiss on her forehead. "I must go; but know that everyone needs you to be strong. I need you to be strong. I know it hurts, but with pain comes rehabilitation. I am always here . . . always here . . ."

Wanda looked one more time at his perfect features, before he slowly faded away into orangey light, his touch becoming colder and colder on her skin before it ceased into nothing. His face was the last thing to go. "I love you more," he smiled warmly before he drifted away, leaving a broken Wanda in his wake. She extended her arm out as if reaching out to him. A low sob escaped her lips.

But somehow, through all of the pain and yearning, she felt new hope; something that she hadn't felt before. And at that very moment she decided that she would indeed carry him in her heart for as long as she shall live, and act to make him proud of her. He had never left, and now she knew that for sure.

A/N

Hey guys! So I know the beginning was sad, but I like to think that even after Vision's death Wanda will still keep him close to her heart <3 Also, i know this was sappy, but whatever.

Anyway, that's it for this update, and I hope to update at least once during the weekends. Thanks.
