It was around midnight. Unable to sleep, you kept turning around in your bed, trying to find the best position to drift off. Unfortunately, nothing had seemed to work for the past hours.

It's not like it was new: you were accustomed to this lack of sleep since a while already. Your mind was always so full of information to process that you unknowingly kept yourself awake. Sighing, you once again laid on the back, your gaze locked on the ceiling you couldn't see.

"I'm freaking tired, so why am I not sleeping?" you muttered to yourself.

You closed your eyes, once more trying to slumber, when a loud sharp noise resonated to your side. You winced in pain before turning around, to see your cellphone turned on. The ringtone kept playing over and over.

"Who the fuck is calling me at this hour..." you mumbled, attempting to take your phone in the laziest way possible.

Your fingers reached to it, and you flipped the cover to answer the caller, ready to make him go through bad times.

"(Y/n)!" shouted a familiar voice from the other side, which you instantly knew belonged to Peter Maximoff, your best friend. "How are you?"
"Trying to sleep, jackass..." you grumbled, leisurely sitting up in your bed. "Why would you be calling me at this hour?"
"My mom's annoying and I want to get out of here. Want to ramble around the city?"
"It's 12 in the morning, Peter. Besides, I'm tired—"
"You weren't sleeping, am I right?"

Your eyes widened in shock: you slightly pushed your window's curtain, afraid he would be down there stalking you. Seeing nothing, you turned around and concentrated on the conversation.

"How do you know?" you asked in complete awe.
"You're the one always complaining you can't sleep." he answered with a scoff. "What, you thought I wasn't listening to your constant rambles?"
"You're annoying, you know that?"
"Why thank you. Anyway, I'll be picking you up."
"I said I didn't—"

The conversation ended right away, and you exhaled loudly: he was no point in arguing with. You two were friends since Elementary school, and you had to say that when he had an idea in mind, never he would give up to it.

Thinking about theses old memories made you smile. You and Peter were closer than you had ever been with someone, and you were glad of it: even if he was stubborn, teasing and single-minded, he stayed the person you cared the most about in the entire world.

You were brutally drawn out of your thoughts by a clatter resonating on your window. Then another. At the third one, you pushed away the curtains and opened the window, gazing right down. You saw your silver-headed best friend, standing on the grass with a smirk stamped on his face.

"I thought you might have ditched me." he whispered, trying not to wake up the neighborhood.
"I've got to admit I considered that option." you replied, grinning.
"Real funny. Now could you please let me in?"
"Here."

You genuinely held your hand down, in order to help your friend, who caught it and used the wall as support to climb. He soon arrived near the frame, and you pulled him inside the room, making him fall to the floor. You had to cup your hand over your mouth to repress your laugh.

"Thanks for your help..." he sarcastically mumbled as he quickly got up, dusting his clothes.
"You're welcome!" you replied, clapping your hands together. "So now what, mister rebel?"
"Let's go into the city. You know, downtown."
"And how are you expecting us to do that? We don't even have a car."
"You seem to forget I can run."
"If you do, how are you expecting me to follow?"
"Let's just walk then! You know, like normal people do."

You scoffed lightly, a hand over your mouth.

"Try to make me believe we're normal." you commented.
"We're not. We're weird, and that's the best part. Where would the fun be if we were?"
"Right. So, what are we waiting for?"

A spark appeared in Peter's eyes, and he immediately took your wrist and led you outside, miraculously making it in one piece after the jump. The streets were completely empty and only lightened by sweet orange lights, but the two of you jogged casually on the sidewalks. Surprisingly enough, Peter ran at the same pace as you, making you internally question if he was really okay.

"What are you doing?" you asked, trying to keep your tone low. "You're not even 'super-speeding'?"
"Now that you've mentioned it..."

He instantly disappeared from your side, and the next thing you knew was that he stood at the end of the street, innocently waving at you with a wide grin on his face.

"Go to hell!" you shouted with a laugh.

You were pretty sure he winked at you from the distance, but you couldn't confirm it as he disappeared once again. Your gaze went around the area until you felt a pressure on your shoulder.

"Boo."

You jumped in surprise with a scream, just to find Peter laughing his ass off at you.

"You idiot!" you exclaimed, violently hitting his shoulder. "That's mean!"
"Shut up, you're going to wake the entire neighborhood up." he whispered between laughs.

With a pout, you turned around dramatically, trying to keep a serious facial expression. Which failed completely.

"I hate you." you mumbled, a smile on the corner of your lips.
"Aw, I love you too."
"Tsh."

Peter, still chuckling, laid his hands on your shoulders from the back with a smirk.

"C'mon, I'll show you the world~" he sung, imitating the song with a hand in the air.
"Please don't."
"You're the one who's mean."

You scoffed mockingly, walking in direction of the big city nearby.

"You have no idea where we are, am I right?" you asked your friend, discouragement over your face.

You managed to reach the city, lightened up by stores and restaurants even at 1 in the morning, the outside animated by background music. It was said that the city never sleeps, and it was right: the sidewalks were filled with all sort of people laughing and drinking, despite the night covering the sky.

"Of course I do." Peter chuckled. "I could run and find a map without you even knowing it."
"Smartass."

You poked his cheek with a pout, making the both of you smile.

"You're lucky to have powers like that." you whispered, thoughtful. "You're kind of a superhero when I'm like, the boring me."

You couldn't even add a word that within the time of a blink, Peter stood in front of you, laying his hands on your shoulders with a dead serious face.

"You're not boring (Y/n)." he declared sincerely. "You're freaking amazing."
"Thanks."

He smiled, his expression being entirely sincere. A pretty rare occasion, you thought. Tilting your head, you tried pushing him on your side.

"Get out of my way!" you shouted sarcastically, smirking.
"What if I don't wanna?"
"I'll make you move!"

You brutally pushed him on the side in direction of the sidewalk, before running away laughing.

"You can't outrun me!" you heard Peter yell from behind.

You were about to replicate when you felt a gush of the wind at your side, and saw your best friend grinning in front of you.

"Told ya~" he cheerfully exclaimed, blowing some hair out of his face.
"I hate you even more."
"Aw, I know I'm awesome."
"Shut up."

Silence took over the moment, as Peter seemed thoughtful for a moment. After a couple of seconds, sparks lightened in his eyes and he took your hand, pulling you in his direction.

"C'mon, I'll show you something!" he shouted, trying his best to keep a normal human pace in his run.

You genuinely followed him through the streets, until you felt a heat rising up to your cheeks. Your heart was beating faster, when you didn't even know why. With a sigh, you brushed the thoughts out of your head and continued your path.

After something that seemed like five minutes, Peter stopped in front of a fence leading up to a park full of trees. The barrier didn't seem high, and you understood what was the plan when your friend climbed, jumping right over it.

"We're not supposed to be here!" you whispered loudly.
"That's the point."

Completely discouraged, you pursued on his tracks and followed him throughout the empty park. The slight rock path led you to what could be called a forest, and after a couple minutes of walking you ended up on a hill, right in the park center. The spot was higher than most of the trees, and the stars were surprisingly visible and clear even in the middle of the city. You gaze was locked on the painted sky in shock.

"Peter, it's beautiful." you mumbled, without taking your eyes away from the show.
"It's my favorite spot in the whole city." he admitted. "I've always wanted to show you."

You smiled widely, laying your head on his shoulder as a support.

"I got to say, this—"

Your sentence was cut by a pair of lips gently pressing onto yours. Your eyes immediately widened in shock when you understood what was happening: your best friend was kissing you. It lasted two to three seconds before he backed off, red covering his face and a hand into his silver hair in embarrassment.

"I-I'm sorry (Y/n), I—"

This time, it was your turn to cut him off, laying your hands on his cheeks to pull him closer for a kiss. He didn't retort, and you soon melted into the action, you arm ending up around his neck and his on your waist. After a while, you both leaned back for some fresh air.

"I did not expect this." mumbled Peter with a wide smile.
"Me neither..." you admitted.

You turned to him, looking right into his eyes with a mix of happiness and confusion.

"Why did you..." you asked, without bothering to finish your sentence.
"I've been wanting to do that for a while now, and here's the better spot." he replied, smiling shyly.
"So that's why you called me in the middle of the night."
"Yup!"

You giggled lightly, and passed your arms around his shoulders when a sharp noise made you jump.

"My cellphone!" you exclaimed, quickly pulling it out of your pocket.

Your gaze went over the screen and you noticed who else was able to call in the middle of the night: your mom.

"Shit! She must know I left." you muttered in disgust.

Peter scoffed, taking your phone into his hand, and closed it with a smirk.

"Let it ring." he whispered. "She'll call back if it's important."

He leaned down, once again pressing his lips onto yours. You felt the butterflies in your stomach, and deeply wished for this moment to never end.
