Steve Rogers- Wishes
[I really like this AU, but I had limited time to write so I hope you all understand what it's about?]
Steve sighs tiredly, rolling his shoulders and winces when they burn. He's been on more missions than he can handle this month and he's exhausted.
A squeal makes him jump, head turning to find the attacker, but he sees a couple instead. The man had sneaked up on her, Steve concludes. The women giggles, wrapping her arms around his shoulders and kisses him.
Steve quickly looks away, averting his eyes and focuses on the night sky instead. He wants to smile at the stars, but the couple, the man and women, they have each other and that gets Steve thinking.
Who does he have? Sure, there's the team. They're his friends, but he wants something.. more than friendship.
His eyes squint as what looks like a shooting star race across the night sky. Its gone almost as quick as it came and Steve frowns.
And then there's suddenly a dog leaping into his lap, licking his face and Steve has to stop himself from shoving it away in instinct.
"Oh my god, I'm so sorry! Jack keeps getting away and I just can't run fast enough," A women appears just as the dog slobbers all over Steve's jacket and he laughs, petting the golden retrievers head before holding out his hand.
"Leash?"
She grins bashfully, handing him the leash and he clips it onto Jack's collar. "Thank you so much,"
Steve stands and Jack leaps into the ground, wiggling his tail violently. "It's no problem, m'am,"
She opens her mouth, but Steve picks up his newspaper and wishes her a goodnight.
On the way home, he spots a women on her phone, not paying attention as she crosses the street. A car comes whirling around the corner, showing no sign of stopping and Steve takes off. He pulls her out of the way right as the car zooms by.
"Are you alright?" Steve asks quickly, helping the woman cross and she nods slowly.
"Yes. I think so..?" She clears her throat, eyes widening when she meets Steve and she smiles. "Thank you,"
He nods. "It was no problem, m'am,"
The person on the other end of her phone shouts incoherently, but the women ends the call. "How can I ever thank you?"
Steve hesitates to answer, because hadn't she just thanked him? "I believe you just did. Have a goodnight and look both ways before crossing the street,"
When he gets his apartment building, a women with dark blue hair is groaning as she lifts a box and almost immediately puts it back onto the ground.
"Do you need some help?"
She whirls around, heavily made up brows raising. "What? Oh. Yeah, yeah. That'd be great,"
So Steve bends down and easily picks up the box, motioning for her to go ahead and she leads him to her apartment.
"Just set it on the table?"
Steve nods, places it on the table, and wishes her a goodnight before she can get a word in.
It's been a weird night, Steve thinks as he unlocks his door, stepping into his apartment and sighs as he slides all the locks into place and throws his keys onto the coffee table.
"Are you stupid, or what?"
Steve whirls around, ready to grab the nearest weapon, but no ones there and he blinks.
"You're making my job harder than it should be, Mr. Rogers,"
"Where are you?" Steve demands, grabbing his shield and a light laugh sweeps across the room.
"I'm not going to hurt you. Well, I just might because you're so oblivious,"
"Excuse me?"
A dull blue light makes Steve close his eyes, and when it's gone, a girl is in its place. She's in regular street clothes, but her eyes are unnaturally bright and her skin almost looks like it's.. glowing.
"You know, granting your wish?" She says, like Steve should've known what she had meant, and grins.
"What? I never made any wish,"
She rolls her bright eyes, tugs down her sleeve and shows him her forearm. A hologram shoots up from her watch and Steve jumps. She laughs, scrolls through a numerous list of names, and stops at Steve Rogers.
"What the hell is that-?"
She taps his name and his profile pops up, showing his age, height, weight. Like a drivers license, but there's an extra description. It says Wishes: acquire significant other, and Steve just stares in disbelief.
"I don't... understand,"
She abruptly closes the hologram and covers the watch with her sleeve. "You see? You're my mission and I cannot screw this up. I gave you three options tonight. Three. And what do you say to them? "Goodnight, m'am", and walk off. Seriously?"
"So you're what, some kind of agent?" Steve says after a moment, meeting her bright eyes and shudders because they're so (f/c).
"Sort of," She shrugs, poking around his things and snorts. "No wonder you're still single. You read newspapers? I thought only old people read those,"
Steve's eyebrows furrow. "I am old,"
"Oh. Yeah, right. You're what, 90 or so years old?"
He huffs. "80, actually,"
She hums, brushes past him and holds up Steve's black book. Which is supposed to be in his pocket. Steve pats his sides and feels that it's empty.
"Did you just-"
She opens it and fingers through, laughs. "You don't know who Steve Jobs is? Well, I'm screwed. How am I going to complete this mission if you- you don't know what YouTube is? Yeah. I'm going to be stuck with you forever," Steve watches as she flop down onto the couch, set the black book on the arm, and face him. "Well, Steve Rogers. Looks like we're going to be spending a lot of time together. My names (Y/n),"
