Steve Rogers- Paper Stars

[Okay I swear this wasn't supposed to happen.]

Steve had never really wanted an extraordinary life. He just wanted to fight the bullies, be with his Ma and Bucky, grow up and get a job.

But then his Ma died, he became Captain America, Bucky died, and then he too, died. Well, that's what he thought had happened until he woke up from being asleep for a number of decades.

So Steve likes to do ordinary things, like go out to eat and catch up on the news and go on things like the bus and train.

Today he's decided to take the train, because why not? It smells better than the bus and he had more leg room.

There's a young woman sitting across from Steve, scraps of paper on the tray in front of her as he folds it carefully and forms a small, blue paper star. She catches him watching and hands it over. Steve's states for a second, taking the small paper in his hand and examines it closely.

"Thank you," Steve says, but she's gone, slipping out of the doors when the train stops.

This goes on for a while. Steve taking the train, sitting in the same place, watching her make paper stars. He gets one everyday, and pretty soon, he has a jar full and he really needs to talk to her.

So on the next day, he decides to talk to her. But she's not there, or the next day, or the next.

It's a week later before she comes back, pale and shaking and not making paper stars or smile.

"Hi," Steve says once she sits down in front of him, sweater too big and scarf nearly drowning her.

She doesn't say anything, just reaches into her bag and pulls out a large bag of paper stars. They're various colors, some are yellow with small hearts, while others are red or blue or green with dots or lines or swirls. He takes the bag. He never sees her again.
