Steve Rogers- Jets
[Thanks for all the feedback and messages, guys. Really. You're all marvelous and I love you. // this chapter is just I don't even know. This kid got arrest at my school so that inspired me to write this]
This is ridiculous. We're The Avengers. Not the police, Tony,"
"But this one is special, I swear. It took me months to catch her,"
Steve pinches the bridge of his nose, sighs and peers into the room where a girl sits. She fiddles with the handcuffs until they slip off her wrists and she stands.
"See?"
"So she picked the lock, big deal," Clint crosses his arms, clearly unimpressed. "I could do that in my sleep,"
Tony holds up a finger. "Observe,"
When they look back into the room, the girls gone and the door is wide open.
"What the hell?" Clint opens the door to the interrogation room and runs to the other one, poking his head out and shakes his head. "She's gone!"
"Friday?"
"Yes, Mr. Stark?"
"Lock down the Tower, would you?"
"Yes, sir,"
Immediately, red lights flash as Tony, Steve, and Clint enter the halls and split up.
It's Steve who finds her, lounging in the kitchen munching on a sandwich.
"Your fridge is pretty empty. I thought the Avengers would have more food since, well, you're the Avengers," she says nonchalantly, grinning when Steve does a double take from her, to the fridge, and back to her again.
"How did you get out of the room,"
She signs, places the sandwich down and shrugs. "It wasn't hard, if that's what you're asking,"
"What?"
"Figuring out the code to the door. It wasn't hard," she hops off the chair and motions to the wall. "What do you see?"
Steve's eyebrows furrow in confusion. "Look, m'am, you're been arrested for a numerous thefts-"
"I prefer to think of it as borrowing. Without the giving back part, you know?"
"No, I don't know," Steve answers tightly, annoyance building in his chest and he fights to keep it down. "Would you please come with me to-"
"What do you see?" She asks again, this time with more emphasis. When Steve sighs, she rolls her eyes. "Answer this question and I'll go with you, okay?"
Steve doesn't see any other way you could escape, so he agrees.
"So what is it you see?"
"..a wall?"
She frowns, faces the wall, and turns back to him. "Well, yes, but what else?"
"It's grey?"
She makes a noise. "How do you people function?" Without warning, she slams her elbow into the wall and a panel suddenly appears, shattering under her harsh blow. She removes the panel and presses a large red button before Steve can stop her.
"What did you just so?"
She grins wider, goes back to her sandwich and takes a bite. "Oh, nothing you need to worry about,"
Steve's eyes narrow as he stops at the panel, inspecting the button for any indication as to what it actually does, but there's nothing and turns to her.
Deciding that asking there kinds of questions won't work, he takes a different approach and sits across from her. "So. What's your name?"
She laughs. "Nice. The good cop, huh? Is that other dude the bad cop?"
"Excuse me?"
"You know, good cop, bad cop. Two people interrogate one person at the same time. One demands answers and the other-"
"Yeah. I know what good cop, bad cop means, thanks,"
She holds up her hands, offering him half of her sandwich and he takes it hesitantly.
"I didn't poison it,"
He eyes it suspiciously before taking a bite and his eyebrows raise. "You made this?"
She nods proudly. "Yup," after a moment of silence, she says, "(Y/n). That's my name,"
"Nice to meet you, (Y/n), I'm Steve-"
"Rogers," (Y/n) finishes her sandwich and licks her lips. "I know. Everyone knows your name. Is there anything else to do around here?"
"Why don't we head back to the interrogation room? We could talk about how you pulled off every robbery?"
She shorts. "Thanks, but not thanks. A great magician never reveals her secrets. And I don't steal, I borrow-"
"Without the giving back part. Yeah, you've told me,"
(Y/n) takes the plate and drops it in the sink, giving Steve a two fingered salute before grabbing the nozzle and sprays water in Steve's face.
He blindly stands, turns his face away and quickly rushes for her. But the water makes him slip onto his back, hitting his head and he can barely make out her smirking form as she walks away.
___
"Stop it,"
"I-I'm sorry, I just- I can't believe that you, of all people-" Tony breaks off into another fit of laughter and wipes his eyes. "Oh, that's too good,"
Steve glares, winces when he presses the ice a little too hard against the back of his head. "She tricked me, Tony. You would've fallen for it too if-"
"Fallen. As in falling. Like you did," Tony breathes, having to leave the room and Clint takes his place.
"Anything strange happen?"
Steve nods. "Yeah. She knew where this red button was behind a hidden panel that blended right in with the wall. I've been in that kitchen hundreds of times and not once did I notice anything off,"
"Maybe it was visible? The hologram glitched?"
"No, that wasn't it. It's like she-"
"Guys," Tony runs into the room, not looking so happy anymore as he holds up a tablet and taps on security footage from just minutes ago. "She took a jet. She took one of my jets. This just got personal,"
"Tony, don't do anything rash-!"
"She's going down, Capsickle, I swear it!"
