Bucky Barnes- Rope
[When life makes me sad, I write crappy, cheesy chapters like this and hope for the best cx]
Bucky doesn't really remember how he had gotten himself into this. He's clinging desperately at two different ropes, two people that he cares about on different ends.
The rope Steve has tied around his waist is slipping, and he can't hold on seeing as he's unconscious. And (Y/n) is grasping on with one hand, the other broken from the fight.
"Just hold on-" Bucky's voice breaks, and his muscles scream at him as he tries to pull them both up. "I-I'll get you both to.."
"Buck," she gasps, meeting his eyes through the tears and she smiles sadly. "It's okay. I don't mind if you let go; you just got Steve back. I understand,"
"No!" He shouts, wincing because his outburst causes him to shift and his grip on (Y/n)'s rope begins to slip. "I can't.. you can't make me do that. Please, I can't loose you,"
But he sees it in her eyes, that she's going to do whatever she wants because that's just who she is. (Y/n)'s brave and stubborn, maybe just a little too naïve sometimes, and Bucky can't help but think she's perfect. But he really wishes she won't do what he thinks she will.
"May we meet again, Bucky Barnes," she says, and then she lets go of the rope and Bucky screams. He immediately pulls Steve on to the ground behind him and looks over the edge, just catching the last second before she disappears under the heavy layer of fog.
It's maybe minutes or hours later when Steve comes to. It's almost nightfall, and when he sits up, Bucky's standing at the edge of the cliff staring straight down.
"Buck..?" Steve says slowly, shakily clambering to his feet and finds rope tied around his waist. He doesn't give it much thought, though, and reaches hesitatingly towards Bucky. "Buck, what's wrong?"
It's then Steve notices (Y/n)'s missing, and it's like a punch to the gut when he makes the leap.
"She's gone," Bucky's suddenly in Steve's face, eyes blazing and wide. His expression is nothing short from deranged, and it's aimed straight at Steve. "She's dead,"
"Buck, I-"
Bucky lands a hard punch to Steve's jaw, sending him flying back into a tree. He doesn't have a chance to recover because Bucky's grabbing the straps on his suit, dragging him forward and slams him onto the ground.
"She's dead because of you!" He shouts hoarsely, pulling back his arm and his knuckles connect with Steve's cheek. "This is all your fault-"
Steve draws his leg to his chest, planting a foot on Bucky's abdomen and shoves him away. Bucky is thrown into the air, landing a good yard away and his head hits the ground with a sickening crack.
"No," Steve whispers, watching in horror as red begins to pool around Bucky's hair. He quickly kneels at his side, grabbing his communicator and pressing the emergency button. But Steve knows Bucky's too far gone. Not even Pietro would be fast enough to save him.
