Bucky Barnes- Hands

(Excuse the horrible chapter, but I had to get it done because some people are really persistent. Requested by SarBear202 )

I like her hands, Bucky thinks as he watches her work on his arm. Something had malfunctioned in his wrist joint and he had accidentally snapped a mans neck because of it. So they killed the last mechanic and hired a new one.

She then notices him staring, but he doesn't look away and she smiles lightly. Bucky's eyes widen, because when was the last time somehow had smiled at him? He can't remember.

I like her smile, Bucky thinks as she stands. Then another doctor takes her place and shoves a mouth guard between his teeth. Bucky's pushed back and the machine next to him comes to life. He watches her as she paused by the door, just long enough to see her smile before he's wiped.
____

Bucky can't remember when the mechanic who had been working on his arm got fired. But he likes the new one because she's nice and has a pretty smile and hands.

His eyes are always drawn to her hands as she works, and the way her lip curl feels almost familiar.

"Hi," she says one day, startling Bucky because no one ever talks to him except for Mr. Pierce, and he's not here. "I'm (Y/n). What's your name?"

Bucky can't answer that question because a team of doctors who wipe him have just entered the room.
____

"Hello," the new mechanic greets, sitting down and Bucky's eyes are immediately drawn to her lips. She's smiling and it looks so genuine, so real, that Bucky almost wants to smile. But his lips won't seem to move. "I'm (Y/n). What's your name?"

The mechanic, (Y/n), gets to work on his arm and he stares at her hands. They look so familiar. Like he's seen them before.

"How are you doing today?"

Bucky frowns, because what. She wants to talk to him? (Y/n) pauses her work and Bucky almost jumps when her eyes meet his. I like her eyes, he thinks, unable to look away as she grins and he stutters to answer. "I'm fine,"

Her eyes narrow skeptically, but doesn't push and continues. "Aren't you going to ask how I'm doing?"

"..what?"

"You know, I ask you how you're doing, then you ask me how I'm doing. Isn't that how people usually start a conversation?"

"I don't know,"

(Y/n) laughs, and Bucky doesn't know why she's laughing. "What, doesn't anyone ever talk to you around here?"

Bucky shakes his head.

"Oh. Well I'll be here for a while, so you better start working on your conversation skills,"
____

It's been a while since Bucky's been wiped. Something about the machine malfunctioning. (Y/n) continues to visit him everyday, either to check on his arm or just to talk.

This goes on for a week until one day, she's just gone. Doesn't come anymore, leaving him feeling confused and alone. He doesn't know what he did wrong.

And then the doctors fix the machine and he's wiped.
____

I don't like him, Bucky thinks. There's a new mechanic, but he can't remember when the last one had gotten fired. It's a man and he looks frightened. Beads of sweat cling to his forehead as he works on Bucky's arm. And then Bucky looks at his hands and something whirls in his mind.

Bucky knows something wrong. The mechanics hands, his face, they aren't right. Something's wrong and Bucky shoves him away, and immediately four guns are aimed at him.

He's wiped a few minutes later.
____

Bucky's on a kill mission. He's looking through the magnifier on the sniper, picking through the crowd for his target when a girl stops. She just stops in the middle of the crowd and people shove past her.

And Bucky's head perks up, finding her without the magnifier and sees that she's crossing the street and enters the ally directly to his right.

Bucky has orders. He knows that he'll get punished if he doesn't follow them. But he stands and leaves the sniper where it is, sliding down the fire escape until he's in the ally and so is she.

"You probably don't remember me," she says, smiling sadly and Bucky takes a step closer. "My name is (Y/n). I was your mechanic until I found out what organization you're working for. But I know you're unaware of what you're doing. You're being brainwashed and you-"

Bucky grabs her wrist and forces her hand out of her pocket. She gasps, but doesn't look afraid as Bucky examines her her hand closely.

"(Y/n)," he says slowly. "..how are you today?"

She laughs, and Bucky's lips are stiff as he tries to smile, but he does anyway and it's worth it when (Y/n) hugs him. Actually hugs him.

Bucky can't remember the last time he's been hugged. He's almost afraid he'll do something wrong when he gently presses his hands against the small of her back.

"I'm fine," she says, pulling back way too soon but smiles. "We have to get out of here, okay? I know some people who are willing to help. Will you come with me?"

He hesitates as she holds out her hand, because this isn't his mission. He's supposed to shoot the man wearing a stripped blue tie, white shirt, dark blue blazer, red handkerchief tucked in his breast pocket.

Bucky ends up taking her hand and nods.
