⭐ Fragile | Clint Barton

You threw yourself on the couch and groaned. Today was bad, really bad. You huffed in annoyance as everything didn't go like you planned.

You woke up late this morning and you were late for work. Not just that, someone bumped into you and didn't even apologize but glared at you instead. Then, you were scolded by your boss in front of your colleagues. It was embarrasing but it was not the end of the day.

After work, you went to your favourite coffee shop to have some espresso. But then a man came and made you dropped your drink.

It was your ex boyfriend, Clint Barton.

Oh, how he had an effect on you! You dropped your freaking espresso just because you saw him after... Five years?

The worst part was; he noticed you.

"Y/N?"

You froze, not knowing what to do. Your mind told you to run but your heart kept your legs in place.

"Ah.. Yes?"

You scrunched your nose and cursed yourself for being so awkward. Clint bought you another cup of espresso even if you already refused a thousand times.

He forced you (not really) to sit with him so you did. But you regretted your decision after that.

"It's been too long, isn't it?"

He started. You nodded and avoided his gaze.

"It is. How are you doing?"

He gave you a small smile. You took a sharp breathe and chuckled nervously. It was his smile that you fell for five years ago. And now, it seemed like his smile still charmed you.

"I'm doing great. Life is complete now, I think."

He answered before sipping his coffee. You managed to let out an 'Oh' then you went silent. His life was complete without you.

"What about you?"

"Good. Life is good. I mean, I've got a new job now and it is fun so everything is good."

Lies. Your job was suffocating, but you won't let him know about your fucked up life now. Why would you?

"Got someone new?"

He smirked at you. You coughed at his question and pressed your lips into a thin line. You didn't date anyone since him. You couldn't. Everytime you tried to be in a relationship with someone, you ended up comparing them with Barton.

"No, actually. I've been busy so I don't really have time for all of that."

You shrugged and tried to act cool. Clint nodded in understatement. Then you asked him about his love life.

"Well, yes I have someone new."

Your face dropped. You were grateful that you were sitting, if not maybe you'll fall.

"I'm married, Y/N."

Anger was bubbling in your chest and you punched the couch angrily. He was married? How could he?

Five years ago, he left you, because of his freaking job. He said he wanted to focus on it so he didn't want you to be in his way. He didn't want to put you in any danger but now he had a wife! Your heart was breaking.

"You- You're what?"

You were shocked. He cleared his throat.

"I'm married. What's wrong with that?"

He asked while raising his eyebrows. You curled your hands in fists.

"Nothing. It's only that you left me because you didn't a woman to stand in your way to pursue your dream. But now you're married. How could it be any different?"

You questioned him. You didn't mean to be harsh but it happened. He frowned and shook his head.

"It is different, Y/N. I love my wife."

You laughed bitterly.

"But you were in love with me too-"

"It was just a stupid excuse, okay?"

He shut you up. You narrowed your eyes at him. It was an excuse?

"I wasn't in love with you anymore so I had to find a concrete reason to leave because I know you were fragile and I didn't want to break you."

That was it. You stood up and stormed out of the coffee shop. Clint was left there, doing God knows what.

He knew you were fragile. A simple word could rip your heart. And he left you. Now you knew he faked all of the job part, he just didn't love you anymore.

It wasn't about putting you in any danger because of his job.

Tears welled in your eyes and you felt your heartbeat was getting rapid. You bit your lips and let tears fell from your eyes.

You fell into depression after he left.

That was what he didn't know. And now he saw you and asked you to sit and talk like nothing happened.

You were fragile; and so he broke you.

But now you won't let him put you in sorrow again. You had a life to live and he was not gonna change it.

But it became harder to breathe as thoughts clouded your mind. Were you a bad girlfriend? Didn't you treat him right?

You reached for your phone and called your friend, begging him to come to your house. He knew exactly what was wrong. He was always there with you through ups and downs.

Ten minutes later, you heard the door opened. Of course, he had the key ti your house. He was the only person you had in this world.

"Y/N, are you alright?"

He rushed to you and squeezed your shoulders. You nodded but he saw the tears on your face.

"Y/N, tell me."

He demanded. You sniffed and cried into his chest.

"It's Barton."

He nodded knowingly when you said the name. He wrapped his arms around you and comforted you.

"I'll always be here for you, Y/N."

He said, a genuine smile painted on his face. You looked up at him and smiled.

"Thank you, Tony."

The billionaire patted your back softly and chuckled.

"Anytime."
