On the fifth evening, people were still joyfully dancing and celebrating and a heavy zealousness still clung to Asgard. You were content because others were but in all fairness, you never quite understood why these things had to be celebrated for a week or more afterwards. The only difference on this evening was that you and Sif and the other three men had been invited to join the royal table for the meal along with Gamal to talk about your first battle together - in particular from yours and Sif's point of view. The boys went first though, ending on Loki's account.
"Yes, well, the battle was the same except I had to save Y/N, not once but twice." He gave a pointed look to you, earning surprised gazes from Frigga, Odin and Thor.
"Well I saved him once too." You recounted, sending a dagger like look his way.
Loki appeared to brush your statement off, "Merely a little misstep on my part."
Sif's poisonous words piped up next, "And you almost let her die."
Frigga glared at Loki, "Is that true?"
He gave a sharp exhale, "Like I said before, I had a plan - if she didn't know what to do, should she really be on the battlefield?"
Sif defended you, "Of course she should be. The only problem is looking out for each other on the battlefield - how can one do that when we don't trust your son?"
"Y/N is a strong fighter - " Gamal spoke up as well.
"Not as strong as Sif." Odin then interrupted before the conversation became more of an argument, "Y/N whilst you have trained with your sister, my sons and their friends, you are still young and not at the level of which one would be expected to be fighting at for a battle. Whilst we look out for each other on the battlefield, you cannot have someone watching over you all the time." He looked to Gamal with a knowing look, "We do not doubt your training capabilities but even you can see that Y/N is not meant for battle, can you not?"
All this time you had remained silent as you stared at Loki with a burning gaze. He noticed it but he simply smirked. Troublemaker, you thought to yourself quietly, shaking your head a little before standing up from the table, a red hue rising in your cheeks. Each person looked to you in surprise at your action.
"Well, if you don't mind, I'll leave now considering this is the 'warrior's table' and I am clearly not built for the battlefield as everyone keeps reminding me." You shot a glare to Loki.
Sif grabbed your arm with a soft look on her face, "No, Y/N, stay - they're wrong - "
"No, Sif, they're not and you know it too." With that you left with Loki watching you as you did, "I never wanted to fight in battle anyways." You muttered.
Frigga sensed your disappointment with yourself though and noticed Loki's gaze towards you. You might not have been ready to fight in a battle but you weren't the kind of person to want to make clothes or cook or do some other dull houseworking task either. Instead she came up with another idea for you.
* * * * *
"Mother, no." Loki shook his head at Frigga, "If she can't fight in a battle, what makes you think that sorcery will be right for her?"
"Because Y/N likes to keep busy with a captivating task." Came her reply.
Loki looked at her in disbelief, "And how would you know?"
"I can sense it," She answered, "And you don't really have a choice - go and bring her back here." Frigga smiled and before Loki could complain, she moved her hands as though shoo-ing him away and he disappeared.
Loki was stood in front of yours and Sif's home and he rolled his eyes at his mother's actions. Even though he disagreed with what his mother had said, he knew that she wouldn't stop until you said yourself that you did not want to learn sorcery (and even then she wouldn't be willing to give up on you that easily). With another exasperated sigh, he knocked on the door and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
A frown crossed his face at the lack of an answer yet he shook his head, ready to teleported himself back to the castle - his mother couldn't scald him if there was no answer after all - until there was the faint creaking of the door opening behind him. He looked back to you rather impatiently except you spoke first:
"Come to gloat that you got me kicked off our little team?" Your eyes narrowed at him.
Loki scoffed at your words, "You should be thanking me; That's probably prevented me from saving you a thousand other times."
"So you view this as a good thing?"
"Don't you? You said it yourself at the banquet yesterday that you didn't want to fight." He pointed out.
When you opened your mouth to reply, no words left as Loki was right in all fairness although God knows how he heard you.
"Exactly." Now a smug look crossed his face.
You rolled your eyes, "Why are you even here, Loki?"
"My Mother wishes to speak with you, Y/N." Came his curt answer.
"Why?"
His bland tone then replied, "She wishes to make you an offer that she will make difficult for you to refuse."
A hint of smile crept across your face, "What kind of offer?"
"Why don't you come and find out yourself - or refuse to come." He gave you a somewhat pleading look.
You smiled wider now, "Why would I refuse when I can see that's what you want me to do?"
Stepping out of the doorway and closing the door shut behind you, you chuckled as you walked ahead of him, "Well, come on then - I want to find out what kind of offer she is wanting to make that you so desperately don't want me to take."
Loki rolled his eyes at you now before walking towards you and reaching to grab your arm, "There are quicker ways than walking, Y/N."
In an instant, you had appeared in one of the regal, elegant looking rooms of the castle where Frigga was. She smiled brightly at you and Loki.
"Thank you, Loki," Frigga gave a soft smile to him before putting her attention on you.
"My Queen," You greeted her, "Loki, told me you wanted to see me?"
Frigga nodded, "I understand being prevented from fighting in battle with your sister, Sif, has troubled you but to make up for it, how would you like to learn sorcery instead? It's a very useful skill to have - even if it's a basic level. I would teach you privately with Loki - "
"With him?" You pointed your gaze to Loki with a frown, "He's technically the reason I was made to stop fighting after one battle."
Frigga's brighter expression faltered slightly and became more advisory as she gently pulled you to the side, "Y/N, there are times in our lives when we come across people we're not that keen on but sometimes we just need to focus on why we do what we do rather than the people that may be with us. Remember that you'd be doing this for you, not anyone else." She gave you a little smile at the end.
You offered her an unsure look, causing a glance back to Loki whom had his arms folded whilst giving you the most unimpressed look anyone could muster. You looked back to Frigga with a decisive look.
"In that case, because I want to do it for me, I would love to be taught sorcery." You smiled at her now.
Frigga beamed at you, "Loki, you won't be alone in your sorcery classes now, Y/N said yes." A bright look was gracefully painted across her face, "You can join us tomorrow morning, I'll send Loki to fetch you."
"Oh, that's alright, I can walk - "
"Nonsense, when there's a quicker way why choose the slower one?" She chuckled, turning back to Loki who had remained silent, "I'm sure Y/N would like to go home to rest now so you can take her back." She nodded before leaving the room.
"You could have said no." Came his response to the situation.
"Well, sorcery seems fun and I'm not doing it for you." Came your reply.
He shook his head choosing not to say a word as he approached you. In an instant he had grabbed your arm to teleport you back home before disappearing even faster. As far as manners went, there were none used then.
"Thank you too." You gave a sharp exhale as you returned inside.
**note: time skip of about a week in next part**
