Imagine:

"What on earth is taking you so long?"

"Could you just wait a minute!" you hastily reply, irritated with your best friend and getting frustrated with this stupid zipper on the side of this stupid - but stunning - dress.

"Do you need any help?" comes his voice yet again, to which you only angrily huff in response, on the verge of having a mental breakdown in the dressing room at Macy's.

It's bad enough that you're ridiculously indecisive as it is, having been running all over town to find your dress for the upcoming prom. Peter agreed to help you - mostly out of pity, you assumed - and had been following you around all day as you desperately tried on what had to have been over twenty dresses.

It wasn't your fault that you didn't feel confident with any of said twenty dresses; you told yourself it was just a matter of finding what you felt most comfortable in, which, up until this very moment, had felt impossible. This dress in particular, had been in the back of your mind all day, mainly because you were skeptical about it. As a last ditch effort after many failed attempts, you'd come back to the store to try it on anyways. What did you have to lose at this point?

But once you finally got that stupid zipper up, all your skepticism went straight out the window. You barely even recognized yourself in the mirror. You couldn't deny the dress looked extremely flattering on you - a beautiful turquoise floor-length dress, with a modest neckline and off the shoulder straps; it was not form-fitting but not  loose either, and you almost blushed at the wave of confidence that blew through you. Granted, your hair was a total mess after a long day's worth of taking dresses on and off, and your face, clad with absolutely zero makeup, made you look like you'd just rolled out of bed; but either way, you knew this one was probably the winner.

"Hello in there," Peter tried again, this time knocking as well.

With a deep breath you turned to unlock the door. You weren't sure why you felt nervous for him to see you - he was just Peter after all, the boy you had grown up with almost your entire life. But...that was just it. It was Peter, the cute dork of the school that was constantly overlooked, yet deserved the world. Oh, and he was Spider Man, so, ya know, no pressure.

Stop it, you're being stupid, you thought to yourself. And you opened the door.

"I am this close to leaving you here and- oh." *gif above*

Your eyes instantly met the floor, heat rushing to your cheeks, unable to look at the expression on his face. "Is that a good 'oh' or a bad 'oh'?" you laughed, slightly uncomfortable.

There was a long pause before your friend cleared his throat. "No, no, no, it's a good 'oh'! It's a very good 'oh.' You look...beautiful."

Forcing yourself to meet his chocolate eyes, you tried a small smile and attempted not to look as sheepish as you felt. "Thanks."

There was another long pause between you two as you watched his eyes quickly dart down and back up again before he scratched the back of his neck and it was his turn to look at the floor. You didn't miss the blush on his cheeks.

"So, uh, are you getting that one then?"

"Y-yeah, I think so," you smile, turning back towards the door and into the dressing room to change out of the dress for now. Distantly, you wondered that if you weren't already going with Brad, if he'd want to go to prom with you instead.

No, that was a foolish idea.

Feeling a bit sad, you pushed the thought into the back of your mind as you took off the dress and changed back into your normal clothes, smiling at the garment. Sometimes what you were looking for was right in front of you all along.
