Need you Now- Steve
Dedicated to BoandHutchFan, whose OC I am using with her permission. :)
Picture perfect memories, scattered all around the floor. Reaching for the phone, cause I can't fight it anymore. And I wonder if ever cross your mind, for me it happens all the time.
Katherine leaned back against the bed, tears trickling down her cheeks, and looked at the pictures all over the floor. All of them were of her and Steve, and a few of them were even of them while she was pregnant. It had been six months since he had gone on a mission, and disappeared while he was on the mission. Their now two-year-old son, Ethan, kept asking for his dada, and it hurt when she had to tell him that he wasn't coming home.
It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone, and I need you now. Said wouldn't call, but I've lost all control and I need you now. And I don't know how I can do without, I just need you now.
She took a deep breath, standing, and tried to call Steve's cell phone again. She kept telling herself that she wasn't going to ever call it, but she kept finding herself doing just that. It somehow went to his voicemail again, and she brushed away the tears, leaving yet another message.
"Hey, Steve. It's me.....It's Katherine. I just.....I miss you, baby. Ethan.....He misses his daddy." She choked down a sob, continuing.
"We need you, Steve. You have to come home. Ethan needs you. I.....I need you." At that, she couldn't hold it back anymore, and one hand flew to her mouth, muffling the sobs that were now escaping. Steve's sister, Emily, came in as she hung up, and wrapped her arms around her sister-in-law. Emily had been helping her, even though she was hurting so much worse than Katherine was, considering that it was her brother who died. But still, she tried to help Katherine.
Another shot of whiskey, can't stop looking at the door. Wishing you'd come sweeping in the way you did before. And I wonder if I ever cross your mind. For me, it happens all the time.
Tony watched his daughter closely as she pulled a small glass bottle out, and poured some in, gulping it down quickly. Ethan was with Bucky and Emily, and it seemed like Katherine was trying to get drunk. He knew all too well just how much this was hurting her, but he knew even better that drunkenness wouldn't help said pain. He took the bottle out of her hand before she could pour more, and he dumped it down the drain. She opened her mouth to complain, but he cut her off.
"He wouldn't want you to be doing this." He said softly, wrapping her in his arms, and she broke down.
"I can't do this. Not without him." She whispered, and he gently stroked her hair.
"I know, Kit-kat. I know."
It's a quarter after one, I'm a little drunk, and I need you now. Said I wouldn't call, but I lost all control, and I need you now. And I don't know how I can do without, I just need you now.
Katherine knew she was a little tipsy now, but she stumbled up to her room, taking a deep breath when she saw the last family picture they'd ever had, at Christmas, right after Ethan had been born. Emily had taken the pictures for them, and she had also found a tiny suit for Ethan, which contained little black slacks, a white dress shirt, a red, gold, and black plaid vest....And it even had a tiny bow tie. Katherine had a on a red dress, and Steve had his suit, but his tie matched her dress and Ethan's suit. She and Steve were both laughing, probably at Bucky, Emily's husband, and Ethan had a small half-smile on his face. She gently brushed the glass over the picture, the tips of her fingers barely touching the glass.
"I miss you, baby." She whispered.
Guess I'd rather hurt than feel nothing at all. It's a quarter after one, I'm all alone, and I need you now. And I said I wouldn't call, but I'm a little drunk, and I need you now. And I don't know how I could do without, I just need you now. Oh, baby, I need you now.
She smiled sadly, staring at the pictures, and for a minute, she thought she could hear Steve's voice again, soft and gentle, murmuring in her ear. "Don't ever give up, doll. You're so much stronger than you let yourself believe. Don't let them tear you down." She took a deep breath, closing her eyes, and smiled- truly smiled for the first time in six months. She made herself crawl out of that hole, and made herself actually live her life again. Another two months later, though, Steve was found, just missing a good chunk of his memory, and he was very weak and close to dying. But when he was brought into the tower, and his eyes landed on her, he smiled, reaching out for her.
"I love you, doll." He said softly, and she smiled slightly, kissing his cheek.
"I missed you, baby. And I did what you told me. I didn't give up." He smiled, his eyes closing slightly.
"Good." He whispered.
I just need you now.
