RESTAURANT PARKING LOT — EARLY MORNING, 4:06 AM

After dinner. Kai's waiting for the engine to warm up.

No one's speaking. Both listening to the piece.

MILLY
You know...
This is the first ever piece that I fell in love with. My mom used to play the violin all the time and she'd play this for me.

If you don't know, sonatas and concertos like this piece have more than one movement. The second movements are usually slower and more emotional than the first. Usually, kasi may iba na 'di naman.

The one playing now is the first.

The second movement of this piece is my all-time favorite. I'd always thought it would be nice to fall in love with it as the background.

Hm?

MILLY
Ah.
I still like it naman. I just grew out of the thinking that I'd ever fall in love.

KAI
Bakit?

MILLY
The more you see the world kasi, the more you'll realize love is a concept that's only true for some people.

The one that most people have are transactional. They leave at the slightest mistake. They leave once they don't get the same thing in return. Nothing wrong with that, but I was thinking.

Because we were conditioned that leaving is easy and always the right solution, because we were taught that breaking up is normal, people always resort to it as the first choice once things go bad rather than choosing to fix what's broken.

KAI
Hindi lahat.
May iba na kailangan nang umalis pero 'di pa rin ginagawa. Kumakapit pa rin.
Kasi mahal nila.
Kahit masakit pa.

MILLY
Totoo din naman. And it's because of that unpredictability kaya I grew out of my childhood dreams.

There's too much deception and falsehood in the world, that's why I don't think I'll ever get to find the real thing.

My lola was lucky though. What she had with Lolo was real. But that's rare.

KAI
Bilyon ang tao sa mundo, Milly.
Makakahanap ka rin ng para sa 'yo.

MILLY
Did you find yours?
Why are you still single after all this time?

KAI
'Di naman lahat naghahanap. 'Di ibig sabihin n'on sarado ako. 'Di lang 'yan ang priority ko ngayon.

MILLY
Do you think you'll settle down one day?

KAI
Oo.
I want a family. A happy one.

MILLY
Oh.
I didn't expect that from you, but it makes sense that you'd want that.
You do strike me as a serious person in life.

KAI
You don't have plans to settle down?

Milly chuckles and looks outside. It's still dark out in Tagaytay.

MILLY
Part of my recurring nightmares is building a family only for it to break apart. So no, I don't think I will.

KAI
Why does that scare you?
What's wrong with having a family?

MILLY
(softer voice)
It's just not for everyone.
Marriage is not for everyone.

KAI
Kaya ayos na sa 'yo yung ganito lang.
All physical.
No true connection.

MILLY
I actually prefer it.
It caters to my needs. It doesn't give me headaches. It doesn't clip my freedom or give me unnecessary issues. Plus it's fun.

KAI
That feels empty.

MILLY
For people like you, yeah, could be.
It's not a lifestyle for everyone.
But for me, and for people like Spiro din, this is the best arrangement for us.

KAI
Masaya ka ba?

MILLY
That's the second time you're asking me that.

KAI

Milly softens, smiling.

MILLY
I'm happy, Kai.
I have my friends. I have my siblings. And my lolo.
And now I have you, too.
Look at you. You're even worried for me now.

KAI
You make it hard not to.

MILLY
(chuckles)
We've gone a long way.

Silence stretches as the first movement concludes.

Both don't notice the second movement has started playing.

Milly's staring at him. Kai raises a brow.

KAI
Ano na naman nasa isip mo?

Milly bites her lips.

MILLY
Why are you so darkly handsome? It's kinda unfair.

KAI
Do you know how you look right now? Para kang bata na may bagong kinagigiliwan. Pero pagsasawaan din kalaunan.

MILLY
(grinning)
I've been told. Pero di pa naman ako nagsasawa sa 'yo.

Milly reaches a hand. Kai stops it midway. But she ignores him, pushing forward, and touches the bridge of his nose. Down to his lips.

KAI
What are you doing?

MILLY
Thinking. How do you look so good when you don't even smile often?

She traces his eyes, his nose, his lips. Her thumb lingers above his bottom lip. Kai's brows crease.

MILLY
Wicked things you can do with this one. Didn't expect that from you.

Kai sighs impatiently — and then he's grabbing her for a kiss. Milly leans forward to access his lips better, bringing her hand to his nape to deepen the kiss.

Kai breaks the kiss, breathing deeply.

KAI
You're seducing me.

Milly traces a finger down his neck.

MILLY
(soft voice, whispering)
Or maybe, just maybe, you really just want me again too?

Kai answers her with another kiss.

KAI
Isa na lang. Isa na lang. Huli na to.

MILLY
Then drive. Drive fast.

KAI
Nando'n si Tripp.

MILLY
Okay. Just park somewhere na walang tao. We'll make do in your car.

KAI
Malas.

MILLY
You believe in supersitions?
(chuckles)
Okay, fine.
My mom's condo's nearby.
You can take us there.

KAI
