Chapter Thirty Eight
~All Might's POV~
Because of Ellie's quick thinking and the strength of the cyclone of wind she'd encased us in, there were very few casualties from the toppling buildings. Unbeknownst to me while we were fighting, her winds were acting independently outside of the cyclone lifting rubble helping to free anyone trapped beneath. As much as she said she didn't want to be a hero, she was well suited for it. I'd regained consciousness a few moments after the fight had ended and when I'd awoken Ellie's small frame was stubbornly holding me up even though she herself had lost consciousness.
She was rushed to the hospital as I stayed behind to make sure All For One was apprehended. A week had gone by since the incident, Ellie still hadn't regained consciousness. The doctors assured me the baby was fine and Ellie would be fine but I couldn't rest until I knew she was alright, until I saw her beautiful dark oceanic blue eyes open and heard her lyrical voice.
It was hard for me to leave her side, even as I was being treated for my own injuries. Gran Torino and Tsukauchi helped me focus and kick me into gear, I was dwelling on Ellie's condition and the information All For One had given me. The villain Tomura Shigaraki was in fact the grandson of my former master, Nana Shimura. I'd met up with Midoriya and given him the scolding of a lifetime and told him to expect another one from Ellie when she woke up.
I returned to UA and Principal Nezu informed us all he was going to implement a plan he'd been thinking of for a while now and sent Aizawa and I to inform the families of the students about moving the students into dorms on campus. I was sure to keep my phone on me at all times. Naomasa promised to stay at Ellie's side and call me the moment anything changed. While she was unconscious the doctors had performed an ultrasound to check on the baby, it was strong and healthy and I now had a photo of it tucked in my wallet next to a picture of Ellie on our wedding day.
Every home we stopped at asked about Ellie's condition and the baby, all of the students and their parents were worried about her. She'd touched so many lives in such a short amount of time. So many of the students asked if it was okay to visit her at the hospital, I nearly cried. If only Ellie could see how many people saw her, the real her, the caring protective and good natured her she liked to think didn't exist. The dorm Nezu had proposed was built in three days times and operational.
The weekend after all the students moved in, a little over a week after the incident, I heard a soft knock on Ellie's hospital room door. I'd fallen asleep in the uncomfortable chair at her bedside. Rubbing the sleep from my eyes with my free bandaged arm as the other was still in a sling, I rose from my chair and went to the door. As I opened the door, I felt my heart swell with emotion as I saw the hall filled with students from Class 1A, 1B and Ellie's general studies. Many of them had brought flowers and other small gifts. The student she called Pond Scum had brought a giant All Might plush duck that looked kind of like her rubber ducky.
"E-Everyone..." I stuttered in the doorway.
"How's Ellie?" The students chorused and I couldn't help but smile.
Luckily the hospital room Ellie was assigned, was rather spacious and everyone was able to pile into the room, I noticed some of the UA teachers at the back of the group and smiled, Aizawa, Present Mic, Midnight, Snipe and even Vlad had all showed up to offer their support. Some of the students, dropped off their flowers, cards and well wishes and took their leave a few others, those she'd reached on a closer level, stayed behind.
I was surprised to see Bakugo hanging back. Once the majority of the students had left leaving only Midnight, Aizawa, Present Mic, Midoriya, Hatori and Shinso remaining, Bakugo spoke up.
"Does Ellie have two quirks?" He asked quietly causing everyone to turn to him.
"She's terrifying enough with one." Present Mic chuckled.
I shook my head, "No, just wind manipulation."
"Why do you ask, Bakugo?" Aizawa asked curiously.
"They had one of those things, a Nomu, that erased her quirk when it touched her...she was trying to fight it off and it looked like there was some kind of bright white electrical energy all around her that fried it...and after, she was using the same electrical quirk..."
I thought back on the fight, I hadn't really noticed in the moment because so much was going on, but looking back on it, I thought I saw her wielding electricity. How was that possible?
"That was Eli's quirk..." Aizawa noted sounding like he was somewhere far away, reminiscing about his childhood friend.
"Eli?" The students asked curiously.
"Ellie's twin." Midnight had tears in her eyes.
"Huh? Ellie has a twin?" The large boy with the rust colored hair, Hatori, otherwise known as Pond Scum, blinked at this.
"She did...His name was Eli, he died when they were fifteen." Aizawa responded in a monotone.
"That's why she went to prison when she was fifteen..." Hatori connected the dots.
Aizawa nodded, "She attacked the pharmaceutical company headquarters responsible for his death."
"So, what about this second quirk?" Present Mic asked curiously, "It's not like it's the ghost of her brother...right?" He shivered at the thought.
There was a soft knock at the door and one of the many doctors that had been monitoring Ellie and the baby over the past week and a half stepped into the room. He paused as he spotted the number of visitors and smiled politely before turning to me. "Could we have a word, All Might?"
Panic and fear gripped my heart, was something wrong with Ellie? I followed him into the hall. "Is Ellie alright? The baby-?"
"Both fine." The doctor smiled and gave my shoulder a reassuring squeeze, "It was the baby I wanted to talk about though...we think it's possible the baby has already developed a quirk, which is almost unheard of at only 13 weeks in the womb but not entirely impossible having parents with such strong quirks themselves..."
"What?" I stared blankly back at the doctor.
"Well, I asked a technician to draw some blood from Ellie this morning so I could do some routine tests make sure everything was alright, and the technician got quite a shock when she tried to draw blood." The doctor chuckled, "Seems like little Baby Might is trying to protect Mommy."
I couldn't help but smile at this news, seems like we were going to have another hero in the family. "Any change in her bloodwork?"
The doctor shook his head, "We're hopeful she'll wake up soon. If those students in there are close to her, it might be a good idea to have them try to talk to her. Knowing the kind of person, she is, if she thinks anyone, she cares about is in need she'll probably come to. Nothing is physically keeping her from waking up, all her wounds were surface wounds and are mostly healed. I think this is just her body's way of telling her to take it easy."
"Thanks doc." I bowed my head before returning to her room.
"Is everything okay, All Might?" Midoriya asked looking on the verge of turning into a crybaby again.
"I guess it was the baby's quirk..."
"WHAT?!" Everyone gaped before wincing and looking to Ellie to make sure they hadn't disturbed her. She didn't move.
"Apparently, it shocked a technician trying to draw her blood this morning." I chuckled.
"I knew that kid was going to be a terror." Shinso grumbled before turning to Ellie, "Sensei, your brat is already causing trouble."
"Anything else?" Midnight asked me curiously.
"He also thinks that Ellie might wake up if she thinks someone, she cares about is in trouble." I noted with a frown. That being the case, I didn't really want to panic her into waking up.
"Oh, that all?" Bakugo scoffed before turning on Midoriya with a glare, "Come here, Deku, you damn nerd!"
Midoriya let out a yelp of terror and scrambled away from the angry boy with the dusty blonde hair.
"Hey, Idiots!" Shinso snapped at the two causing a ruckus.
"Huh?" Midoriya looked over his shoulder.
"What the hell did you just call me?" Bakugo raged
A dazed look crossed their faces. "Sit down and shut up." Shinso glowered and I watched in awe as Midoriya and Bakugo dropped to the floor.
Hatori was clutching at his sides in laughter. "Shinso, you sound like sensei now."
A mild breeze drifted through the room from nowhere. I felt the tender caress as it streamed through my unkempt hair and watched as it gently tousled the hair of each of the students causing Shinso to drop his hold on Bakugo and Midoriya. Everyone looked to Ellie's bed and held their breath.
Her oceanic dark blue eyes fluttered open. She blinked a few times before jolting into an upright position her eyes wide with terror. Her eyes latched onto me and she relaxed before she noted the bandages lining my body. Tears welled in her eyes.
"ELLIE!" Everyone screamed and swarmed toward her bed, startling her. Strong raging gusts of wind lashed out and shoved everyone back keeping them at bay to keep them from smothering her.
"What the hell is wrong with you idiots?" Ellie's voice sounded weak and scratchy. "Don't smother people in hospital beds."
I was overjoyed that she'd finally awoken I ignored her words and stepped forward wrapping my good arm around her and pulled her in for a hug. She melted against me as she let her tears fall freely and attempted to wrap her arms around me but found it difficult with the IV's and tubes giving her fluids and nutrients.
"I'm so glad you're finally awake." I was able to breathe a sigh of relief. The release of tension made me feel exhausted, I'd been running myself ragged trying to keep myself busy while constantly worrying about Ellie's condition, I hadn't given myself any time to rest.
"Finally?" Her voice cracked. She struggled to pull away from me. "How long was I unconscious?"
"A little more than a week." Aizawa responded simply as everyone inched a little closer once her winds died down.
Ellie paused as she looked Aizawa over. A frown crossed her face as she noticed the remnants of a black eye barely visible. "What the hell happened to you, Senpai?"
"The Symbol of Peace wasn't very peace like when I told him the news that I'd failed to protect his wife and let her get captured by villains..."
The students all turned to me curiously.
Ellie shook her head at this, "It was my fault I got captured, I ran off on my own. Aizawa told me to stay with Vlad..."
"I should have known you wouldn't listen to me, though, you grew attached to all the students, I should have known you'd run in blindly to try and save them." Aizawa was still filled with guilt looking at her in her current condition, her small delicate frame littered with bandages. She'd lost some weight from her time in captivity and recovery and had a sickly pallor to her skin.
Ellie looked around at the students and teachers swarming her bed and sighed as guilt wormed through her, "Sorry, for worrying everyone..." Her gaze flicked over to Bakugo and she offered him a smile and held her arms open.
Bakugo looked somewhat flustered as everyone looked to him curiously but reluctantly stepped forward and accepted her hug. Ellie hugged him for a moment before catching him in a headlock and gave him a painful looking noogie, "You're a reckless punk and you're lucky you're not dead!" She growled before releasing him from her hold and gently ruffling his hair to fix it, "But I owe you one for saving my ass."
Bakugo stumbled away from her and rubbed his aching head looking surprised that she was still as strong as she was in her current condition, "...you saved my ass too...we're even...hag..." He smirked.
"WHAT DID YOU CALL ME?!" Ellie raged and gently shoved him back with a gust of wind before smiling, "We've got a lot of work to do in our training, I gave you training wheels during that fight, Anger management hedgehog."
Bakugo looked frustrated and ready to lash out but managed to keep his anger in check surprising everyone in the room. "...I know..."
"You sure you want me to train you?" Ellie smirked.
Shinso, Hatori and Midoriya stared at Bakugo with wide eyes. I mirrored them, Bakugo asked Ellie to train him? When?
"Oh, that's a terrifying thought." Present Mic muttered under his breath, "A Bakugo with Ellie strength..."
Aizawa chuckled, "I think it'll be good for both of them."
"Or they'll kill each other." Present Mic mused.
I shook my head at this. If anyone could reach him and understand him, much like with Young Shinso, it was Ellie. Guilt wormed through me, I'd been considering asking her to help with Young Midoriya now that I couldn't use One for All anymore, it felt selfish now, she already had so many students asking for her help.
All of her students got hugs, Midoriya got a strong right hook that nearly sent him out a window before Ellie gave him a hell of a tirade about his reckless behavior, and after a short visit all the students and faculty left. Once everyone had gone, she fell back onto the bed looking exhausted. Unconsciously she rested her hand on her stomach and I couldn't help but smile.
"What happened?" She asked me as she scooted as far over as she could giving me room to climb into the hospital bed with her.
I smiled as I laid beside her and wrapped my good arm around her holding her against me. "All For One was captured."
She frowned, "You could have lied and told me he was dead..."
"Sorry, it's better to keep him imprisoned so we can find out as much information as we can about the League of Villain-."
"You just want him to tell you more about Shigaraki...do you think you can reach him just because he's Nana-san's grandson?"
She was too perceptive. "I feel like I have to try..."
"YOU shouldn't be anywhere near anyone, you've done it haven't you? You can't use One for All anymore, right?"
I bowed my head, "Ellie, are you sure you aren't a mind reader?"
"I know YOU, I've spent a lot of time getting to know you, trying to read you and do everything I can to be someone who doesn't hold you back, I've gotten good at reading you." She snuggled closer to me.
"You really are the number one wife." I held her close as tears welled in my eyes, I'd almost lost her, my little Ellie.
"You're the number one idiot." She retorted as her cheeks flushed scarlet.
"I've passed the torch on to young Midoriya," I continued from our earlier conversation, "but I still want to find out what I can about Shigaraki and see if there's some way I can do something..."
"And you're not going to ask for my help with him because you already think I'm doing too much..." She frowned.
I nodded.
"I'll help out with the idiot, you know that..." She paused and her eyes suddenly grew wide, "WE MISSED THE ULTRASOUND!" She panicked adorably.
I smiled as I reached into my pocket to pull out my wallet and opened it to show her the picture, "You slept through it. The baby is strong, healthy and appears to have developed a quirk."
She burst into tears as she looked at the small photograph of the ultrasound image. "It's so little..." She held the picture close and bit her lip, "The baby has Eli's quirk." Her body trembled against me and I cradled her gently.
"I've been thinking about something, while you were unconscious, and after what we've learned today, I think it only confirms it...if we have a boy, I think we should name him after his Uncle Eli..."
Ellie sobbed against me. She felt so small tucked against my bony frame. I looked to the bandages around her neck, it was much like the wound Aizawa had gotten from Shigaraki. I couldn't forgive him for hurting Ellie, but I still wanted to find him, try to reach him and put a stop to his villainy for good. There were more bandages wrapped around her lithe frame, from the surface wounds she'd gotten from her own attacks while trying to keep young Bakugo safe.
"I love you, Ellie." I breathed softly as I cradled her against me, holding her close.
