Chapter Forty Three

~Ellie's POV~

The baby bump was growing, and at twenty weeks we'd finally reached the halfway marker of the pregnancy. According to the Ellie Tracker, baby Eli was the size of a banana. I had more energy than I'd had in weeks and despite the growing bump was able to come up with new and improved training regimens for all my students and Aizawa's as well while they were sharing our morning class. Thanks to the growing bump it was getting harder to sleep comfortably, the doctor said I wasn't supposed to lay on my back any more and had to lay on my side. I had to get one of those ridiculous shaped body pillows just so I could sleep, it took up half the bed.

I woke with a smile on my face as I felt Toshinori's hands gently rubbing my back, trying to work out the aches and pains without waking me so I could be more comfortable throughout the day. He jumped as I rolled over to face him before smiling somewhat guiltily.

"Sorry, I didn't mean to wake you." He gently pulled me against him and kissed the top of my head affectionately.

I smiled, "It's okay, it was a nice way to wake up."

My cell phone started to ring causing me to jump and let out a yelp of panic. Thanks to that stupid horror movie the kids made me watch, I was still jumpy as hell. Toshinori chuckled.

"No more scary movies for you." He teased me with a smile as I reached for my cell phone.

"I didn't want to watch the damn thing anyway, they made me." I huffed as I looked to the screen, it was an unknown number. Hesitantly I answered the phone, "Hello?"

"Ellie?" A voice I hadn't heard in years sounded on the other end.

               I sat up, "Grace?"

"Yeah, I'm really sorry to bother you." Her voice sounded a little shaky, she was scared about something. "I saw you on the news a few weeks ago and thought maybe you could help me since you're a hero now."

"What's going on?" I asked her.

"Some shady guys have been hanging around my art gallery lately, they keep harassing my buyers. They won't leave me alone. I've called the police but they're too busy and they said they can't do anything unless they get physical. I don't want to wait for that to happen." She sounded really upset.

"I'll be there in a second, text me your location." I hung up the phone and scrambled to change.

"Ellie, what's going on?" Toshinori looked worried as I pulled on some stretchy comfy leggings and stuffed my expanding breasts into a bra before burying my body in an oversized t-shirt.

               "Grace is in trouble."

I could see the worry lines creasing his forehead but he struggled to speak up. His worry for me was battling with his need to save innocents, he wouldn't try to stop me. "Do you need backup?"

"I'll be okay." I gave him a quick kiss goodbye and bolted out the door as my phone buzzed with Grace's location. After stepping into a pair of flats by the door I walked onto the porch and disappeared in a flurry of wind.

I landed swiftly in a city not too far away. A few passersby on the street screamed in panic at my sudden arrival. Glancing up and down the street, I spotted some boarded-up windows, litter lining the sidewalk and a few unsavory types loitering near some of the broken shop windows. I looked behind me to see one of the only intact buildings on the whole street. "Gala Grace." A small smile wormed onto my lips, she did become an artist, just like she said.

I peered through the barred windows and knocked lightly on the glass. A head of caramel curly locks popped up from behind the counter and a pair of bright green eyes peered back at me as a young woman of twenty-four came out of hiding. Her smile was bright as she ran toward the door with tears in her eyes. It took her a moment to get through all the locks before she swung the door open and pulled me in for a hug.

               "Ellie!"

I smiled as I hugged her back, "Hey Grace, it's been awhile. How's your mom doing?"

Grace beamed back at me, "Good, she thinks she might be able to get released early for good behavior, hopefully sometime next year." Her gaze fell to my stomach, to the small perfectly rounded bump that was starting to show through the fabric as the t-shirt shifted from her hug. "You're pregnant!" She squealed as she ushered me into the shop before locking the abundance of locks and pulling me toward a small seating area. "Oh, maybe I shouldn't have called you. I didn't know you were pregnant, I don't want you to get hur-."

"Don't worry about it, k-Grace." I was about to call her kiddo but realized it felt awkward now, she was only a few years younger than me. It had been years since I'd seen her.

She smiled as she caught on to my slip up. "I'm glad it's weird for you too. I feel like because you were so strong and watching over me when I was in middle school and high school that you were much older than me, but you're not really and I always thought of you as an aunt but you're more like a sister."

"So, when did things start getting bad?" I asked her curiously.

"Everything was great up until a few weeks ago then these scary guys just started vandalizing some of the other store fronts and harassing anyone that came by. I guess I'm the only one too stubborn to leave." She sighed.

               "Hm..."

"Any ideas on why they'd do this?"

"Possibly a bigger crime organization has their sights set on the property here thinking they can get a much better deal if they send some of their low-level thugs to shake down the residents and make a mess of things to decrease property value." I noted.

"Wow. I didn't even think of that." Grace paled. "That sounds scary." She was so in the dark about things.

"Would also explain why the police wouldn't do anything, some of them could be in their pocket and you maybe spoke to the wrong officer."

Grace paled again, "Oh..." Her bright green eyes drifted to the door and grew wide.

I turned and spotted a gaggle of men all dressed in dark clothing that was easily able to obscure them from any kind of security footage. "Some things never change." I sighed as I got to my feet. "Idiots are always underestimating me."

"Ellie, maybe you shouldn't-." Grace reached for me.

I turned to her with a smile, "Do you have a stockroom, office, or somewhere safe you can lock yourself in for a minute?"

               She nodded.

               "Back exit?"

               She nodded again.

               "Alright. Leave it to me."

Grace reluctantly retreated to an office after pointing me in the direction of the back exit. I stepped out into a shady looking alley. My breath caught in my throat as I heard the sound of a gun being cocked next to my ear.

"Tell the little artist to pack up and g-." A bolt of lightning shot from the sky and struck the man down before he could finish his sentence. The sound as it made impact was deafening and the massive streak of lightning was like a giant spotlight giving away my position.

I chanced a glance downward as the man collapsed to the ground looking a little crispy. Sighing I placed my hand on my baby bump, "Hey Parasite, Mommy has to follow rules now, let's keep the death count to a minimum. Fucking hero bullshit." I grumbled as I kicked the charred man.

He let out a cough and I smiled. Oh good, he lived. Couldn't fuck shit up on my first job as a hero. Deciding he wasn't going to go anywhere in his current condition I darted down the alley to head to the main street to head off the goons near the storefront. The sound of gunshots came from the direction I was going. Slowing my pace, I carefully peeked around the corner in time to see a tall muscular man with red hair and a beard of flickering flames hugging his chin, Endeavor.

"WHAT THE HELL, FLAME FACE?!" I snarled in rage as I dove into the fray, it seemed the thugs all thought they could attack him together and stand a chance, "This is my case, get lost!"

"Tornado?" Endeavor swiveled around and shot me a dark look.

The goons looked between the pair of us as we turned on each other.

"Don't fucking call me that! It's Lady Might- Gah! No! For fuck's sake, never mind just go to hell!" I growled as I stomped my foot in frustration.

One of his bushy red eyebrows raised slightly at this, "Lady Might? You're a hero now?" He scoffed. "Standards have fallen or times are getting desperate if they let you become a hero."

"Hello? Can we go back to shooting at you guys now?" One of the goons waved his gun in the air.

"GROWN UPS ARE TALKING! SIT DOWN!" I swiveled on the thugs with a snarl of rage. Three of them obediently fell to the ground. Two smarter ones rolled their eyes and opened fire on us.

The bullets were repelled back with a screeching wind that caused all the goons to clap their hands over their ears.

               "SIT!" I hissed.

The remaining goons dropped to their knees.

Endeavor glowered at me. "Go home, Tornado. Your sorry excuse for a hus-." He paused as I lunged at him with a furious shriek and struggled to avoid my fist encased in wind.

My fist connected with his sternum and a charge of electricity exploded from the impact as the winds sent him flying. "DON'T INSULT MY HUSBAND!"

"Did she just send Endeavor flying?" One of the goons squeaked.

"Yep." Another lowered himself onto the ground curling into the fetal position.

I turned on the thugs with a glare. "If any of you even think of moving, I guarantee you'll never walk again." I hissed, "Stay put, and don't push my fucking buttons."

"I can't believe Endeavor got his ass handed to him by a tiny pregnant bitch." One of the goons remarked.

"What was that?" I turned on him with a glare.

               "Ah! SORRY!" The man squeaked.

I rolled my eyes, "Stay." I retrieved my phone from my pocket and was about to call the police when Endeavor returned from his flight and shot me a glare. I rounded on him as he opened his mouth to say something. His turquoise eyes grew wide for a brief moment startled by the look of pure loathing revealed on my face and he shut his mouth. "Remember, Flame Face, my husband isn't here to keep you safe, and I'm prone to extra hormonal rage right now. Tread carefully."

Endeavor scowled at this, "Why would anyone let you be a hero, your people skills are deplorable."

"Huh?! Like you're one to talk! Your face is literally on fire and you look like you're ready to take everyone's head off!"

"You're both pretty scary." One of the goons piped up.

"SHUT UP!" Endeavor and I snapped simultaneously before glaring at one another.

The door to the art gallery opened and Grace stepped out, "Ellie, everything okay?" She noticed the thugs all sitting on the ground and looked to me curiously. "What's going on?"

"All under control, call the cops to arrest these idiots." I sighed.

               "Awh man!" The thugs groaned.

"It's arrest or I tear you all to pieces, which one would you prefer?" I hissed.

"You know, county's not so bad this time of year." One of the thugs laughed.

"Yeah, the food's pretty good there..." Another piped up.

Grace reluctantly went back inside to call the police and I turned to the thugs with a menacing glare, "Alright, nicey nice time is over. Who hired you idiots?"

"You were being nice before?" Endeavor scoffed.

"Everyone's still breathing, right?" I retorted with a scowl, "And I thought I told you to get lost, why the hell are you still here?"

"Oh, is it time to cut a deal?" One of the thugs grinned thinking everything was all sunshine and rainbows.

"Sure, the deal is you can tell me what I want to know and I won't kill you. Sound like a good deal?" I asked the thugs with a sweet smile.

"She's a demon!" One of them panicked.

"We can't tell you who hired us, Lady Might. They're a bit scarier than you are."

"That right?" I smirked. Two cyclones tore from the sky and touched down on the street on either side of us. They stayed in one spot and battered us all with strong raging gusts of winds that shrieked eerily.

Endeavor struggled to keep himself from getting pushed and pulled in the hellacious winds. "What the hell are you doing?!" He attempted to yell at me over the screaming winds. I ignored him. I needed to know who hired them so I knew if Grace would be safe or not.

The spineless thug that had been whining the most squealed like a pig, "We were hired by the Shie Hassa-." His words cut off as a bullet pierced him right between the eyes.

My eyes widened at this, how the hell could it get through the torrent of raging winds? Endeavor managed to sprint toward me, thinking we were being fired on as he hadn't been able to hear my conversation with the thug over the winds. He threw himself in front of me looking a little reluctant to do so.

"Get away, idiot!" I glowered and pushed Endeavor away from me as I scanned the nearby rooftops. Out of the corner of my eye I spotted movement on one of the rooftops and made a move to go after the shooter.

Endeavor caught me by the arm pulling me back. "Stay here."

"Get your hands off of me, Flame Face!" I snarled in rage and attempted to break from his grasp but he was immovable. He was almost as strong as Toshinori had been when he'd been able to use One for All.

"Stay here." He growled at me once more before making a move to take off after the shooter.

The cyclones dispersed and the wind died down and I called out to him before he could get too far, "Oy, Flame Face, how much experience do you have dealing with Yakuza?!" I yelled after him, stopping him in his tracks and causing the remaining thugs to pale considerably.

               He turned to me curiously.

"That's what I thought, you stay and babysit, I'll take care of the hitman." I rolled my eyes and disappeared in a gust of wind.

Though I didn't know the name of the group the thug had been trying to tell me, I recognized a yakuza hit when I saw one. They sent someone as an insurance policy to make sure they were kept out of the spotlight to hide their identities and keep the blame from them. I landed swiftly on the rooftop to head off the shooter. I spotted a man wearing a strange bird like masquerade mask that concealed his entire face. He was wearing all dark clothing there wasn't anything recognizable about him.

He raised his gun at me the barrel aiming toward my abdomen and I felt a blinding rage take hold. Screeching gale force winds lashed out at him, slicing his firearm in two. I heard his yowl of pain as the blades of wind took one of his hands in the process.

Just as I was about to lunge for him in my blind fury, I felt something hit me over the back of the head with enough force my vision turned dark. I felt myself begin to fall and struggled to catch myself on my hands and knees. My head was pounding, my heart was racing and fear gripped me as I was temporarily blinded with pain and struggling to cling to consciousness. There was a familiar sound of lightning striking something nearby before I heard two sets of retreating footsteps as my attacker and the hitman took their leave. I collapsed onto my side and allowed myself to slip into unconsciousness.

I woke a few moments later to the blaring sounds of sirens and found myself being lifted off the rooftop into a pair of strong arms. A jolt of electricity shocked whoever had picked me up, I heard a mumbled curse but they didn't release me from their hold. My dark oceanic blue eyes fluttered open and I groaned as I spotted Endeavor holding me.

"Get away from me." I mumbled weakly feeling somewhat nauseous, whether from something pregnancy related or the blow to the head I wasn't sure.

He scowled down at me, "You should have listened to me."

"You have children, and as much as I don't like you, I'd feel bad if something happened to Icy Hot because you pissed off the Yakuza." I hissed at him.

He rolled his eyes at this, "Did you forget you're with child?"

"No, I didn't, he just saved my ass." I huffed before going quiet as he carried me in the direction where the sirens were loudest. It was unusual for hitmen to work in pairs, which led me to believe they'd expected someone to follow them, but what was their goal? Was it just to kill the follower or was there something else they'd intended to do before Eli saved me?

               "Ellie?"

I nearly jumped at hearing the surly man I despised call me by name and threw him a curious look. "What?"

"What's on your mind?" He asked, it seemed like he was struggling to keep himself calm and to talk to me in a civilized manner, not because he wanted to but because we were now within sight of all the police officers and emergency responders who'd arrived on the scene.

"They weren't operating like normal Yakuza, I think perhaps they had a few goals to accomplish here, not just getting Grace to abandon her gallery space..."

"You have a lot of experience with the Yakuza?" He frowned.

"Well, my cellmate was a Yakuza Princess, so yes. I do." I stated matter of fact. Grace's mother, Gemmei, though everyone called her Gem, or by her Yakuza Moniker Blood Gem, was the daughter of a yakuza boss. She'd also been one of their assassins but she'd gotten sloppy after receiving a threat against Grace. She got her out of the criminal world and sent her to live with a close friend she got to play the role of an aunt.  Gem didn't want Grace anywhere near crime, she wanted her to live a life not knowing anything about her biological family and their connections. All Grace knew was that her mother had murdered men who turned out to be bad men involved with other criminal organizations. She believed her mother was somewhat of a hero.

Maybe Gem would have some insight into what was going on. My stomach lurched again and my head throbbed in pain. I placed my hand to the back of my head where I'd been struck and swore under my breath as my hand was immediately soaked in blood. I didn't have time for this! Since it was now confirmed the Yakuza were involved was it because of the property or was this some plot against Grace because someone found out about her connection with Gem? Grace wasn't safe here.

"You okay?" Endeavor sounded genuinely concerned which gave me uncomfortable chills.

"Why the hell do you care?" I hissed once we'd arrived on the scene.

"I don't believe it, it's Ellie, now going by the hero name Lady Might, wife to everyone's favorite hero, All Might." I heard a reporter nearby and paled.

"Stupid vultures." I glowered at the surrounding press being kept at bay by the police as they set up a perimeter.

Endeavor handed me off to a paramedic without a word before going to speak with one of the police officers in charge. The paramedic took notice of my small baby bump and looked to my bleeding head worried.

"We should probably get you to the hospital, Mrs. All Might."  The paramedic blanched.

               "What?! Why?!" I growled.

"You've lost quite a bit of blood and after a head injury like that we should make sure the baby is o-."

"I hit my head nothing else, he's fine." I glowered and as if to prove my point a small bolt of electricity shot from me and flew past the paramedic striking Endeavor as he walked away causing him to turn on me with a glare. "I'm not even reprimanding him for that one." I smirked before turning to the now awed paramedic, "bandage me up, stitch me up, whatever I'm not going anywhere.

The paramedic begrudgingly obliged and tended to my head wound after a few stitches and a ridiculously excessive number of bandages I was released from their care and went to find Grace. She was speaking to some of the police officers. Once she was finished up with the police officers, she ran to me worried.

               "Ellie! Are you okay?!"

"Yeah, I'm fine..." I hesitated, "I think it would be a good idea for you to lie low for a while, I think something more serious is going on, it's not safe for you..."

               Grace frowned, "So they win?"

"No, they don't win and I'll take care of it, but I need to get some more information and I'm not comfortable with you staying here alone..." I hesitated again before texting Toshinori rapidly to clear something with him. He responded immediately and I smiled at his response before looking up at Grace, "I want you to stay with me for a few days, until I can get some info and make sure it's safe for you to come back."

Grace smiled and wrapped her arms around me, "You're like the big sister I always wanted, Ellie."

I gave my statement to the police, informed them of the location of the hand of the man who'd shot one of the thugs and tried to shoot me and Grace and I were cleared to go.  I was told again, numerous times by various police officers, to go to the hospital. Grace took a few minutes to pack a bag before meeting me on the roof of her building away from hustle and bustle of reporters and police officers. She placed her hand in mine and we disappeared in a strong gust of wind, reappearing just outside the white picket fence of our home.

Grace smiled as she saw our cute little house overlooking the ocean, "Your child is going to have a happy childhood with two of the most loving parents a child could ever ask for."

"Don't make me emotional." I whined as tears welled in my eyes at her words causing her to laugh.

The front door swung open and Toshinori stepped out with a bright smile ready to welcome our guest. His smile dropped the moment his eyes fell on me and the number of bandages wrapped around my head.

"Ellie!" He panicked and ran to me, "What happened?! Are you okay? Is the baby-?"

"We're fine-." I attempted to reassure him.

Grace piped in with a smile, "She didn't listen, several police officers told her to go to the hospital."

"Hey! Don't throw me under the bus like tha-!"

Toshinori cut me off as he scooped me into his arms, "Hospital."

I scowled at this, "I don't need to go to the ho-."

               "Ellie." His voice was serious.

               Grace giggled.

"Fine." I caved with a sigh.

Grace helped Toshinori get me to the hospital since he refused to allow me to use my quirk. After several tests and hours of poking and prodding we were told the baby was perfectly healthy and still shocking everyone that poked me. However, he did give us some news that was received differently by all, Toshinori seemed happy, Grace was amused, I was devastated. Due to the day's events my blood pressure was elevated to dangerous levels and the doctor recommended I stay on bedrest at home for at least a week to relax and lower my blood pressure. It would also give me time to heal and come back to have my stitches removed and get another assessment to see if there was any progress in lowering my blood pressure. This was going to be a nightmare, I hated bedrest.
