Chapter Forty Seven
~Ellie's POV~
At twenty-three weeks pregnant I felt horribly bloated. My blood pressure and blood sugar levels were fluctuating a lot and I was a ball of nerves and hormones. Everything was setting me off. I went from crying to screaming in rage at the drop of a hat and nobody was safe. Grace now resorted to hiding in the spare bedroom saying she'd come out when the hormones chilled out, which I really hoped was soon. At school, Present Mic seemed to be the one getting the brunt of my rage, the man had the worst possible timing out of anyone I ever met. I was starting to think he had a sensor in his brain that went off every time I was about to fly into a rage and told him to pester me at that exact moment.
I woke the morning Class 1A was to take their provisional hero license exam. Toshinori insisted I go see Nighteye before the exam and meet him there when I was done. After a shower, as I was now getting to a point in my pregnancy where I could no longer get up if I sat too low, I got dressed in some comfy leggings and a super loose flowy shirt, I headed to Sir Nighteye's Agency.
I arrived at a modern style building on the outskirts of the city. It was pretty modest compared to some of the other hero agencies I'd seen. Security was lax as I managed to waltz right in, find his office and sit at his desk to await his arrival without a single person taking notice. I spun around in his office chair. After a single revolution I slapped my hands on the desk to stop spinning as my stomach churned.
"Bad idea, why did I do that?" I groaned. I sat up straight and turned to the door as I heard the ding of an elevator and the sound of voices approaching.
The door opened a few moments later and a tall slender man with gold streaked dark forest green hair wearing a pair of rectangular rimmed glasses stepped into the room with what appeared to be a UA student at his heels. Nighteye turned his dark gaze to me and his eyes grew wide. The student, a tall muscly blonde, froze as he spotted me.
"Mrs. Yagi." Nighteye recovered and offered me a polite bow of his head, "how did you get in here?"
"You should really hire some new security guards." I smirked.
"Mrs. Yagi, this is Mirio Togata." He indicated the boy before turning to the boy and indicating toward me, "Mirio this is Mrs.-."
"You can just call me Ellie; he's only being formal and polite because he knows it annoys me." I rested my hands atop my baby bump and fixed Nighteye with a hard look. "Cut the formalities please, you don't like me, I don't have much of an opinion on you in either regard, I'm only here because Toshinori asked me to see you."
"I see your manners are as deplorable as ever." Nighteye frowned.
"Part of my charm." I smiled slyly.
He shook his head and stepped forward motioning for his pupil to sit at one of the couches in the office. Nighteye leaned against his desk and held out his hand with a sigh. I placed my hand in his and met his dark gaze. He activated his quirk and I waited patiently, giving him a moment to process whatever he was seeing. I didn't fully understand his quirk. According to Toshinori he could use it once every 24 hours which already seemed like a hassle, he had to touch a target then make eye contact with them in order for it to work. Then he could see the entirety of the targets future second by second like on film for up to an hour.
"Hope you have some girl names picked out." He smiled after a moment.
"There's no way I'm doing this again." I frowned.
"You won't have to." He chuckled. "You see, your daughter takes after her mother and likes to hide in the shadow of her twin brother."
Did he just fucking say TWINS?! The next thing I knew a small trashcan was being shoved into my hands and my stomach lurched. The contents of my stomach wound up in the trashcan. "What the fuck did you just say?" I groaned once I was sure I wasn't going to vomit again.
"Twins." Nighteye said simply.
"Are you high?!" I snarled at him angrily.
He chuckled at this and took the trashcan from be before gingerly setting it off to the side.
"There is no fucking way! I've had plenty of ultrasounds and sonograms and a shit ton of appointments, everyone has said and we have seen in all the pictures, one baby-." I was starting to feel light headed as panic gripped me.
Nighteye placed a gentle hand atop my head. "If it's any consolation the doctors won't even know she's there until they're cutting you open."
C-section? "And why would they be cutting me open?"
"Because you're a reckless fool with a death wish, but don't worry, they'll both be fine."
Both.
I felt sick again but managed to keep myself from throwing up.
"So, what was he worried about that he wanted you to see me?" He asked me quietly.
"Still processing the first bomb you dropped." I grumbled before sighing, "death by yakuza?"
"No."
"Cool. That's all." I made a move to get up but he stopped me.
"You still look a little green, why don't you sit for a minute?" He looked worried before looking to the boy on the sofa, "Mirio would you mind getting Ellie a bottle of water?"
The boy nodded and left the room. Once the blonde had left Nighteye looked down at me seriously, "Mirio should have been the successor, he should have been the one to get One for All."
"Not sure why you're bitching at me about it." I frowned.
"Why do you like the boy he picked instead so much?" He asked me curiously.
"Maybe if you met him, you'd understand." I smirked and shakily got to my feet, "I'm not sticking around for water, I have to be somewhere and I plan on chewing out a lot of doctors on my way."
Nighteye chuckled, "congratulations on your bundles of joy."
"You know when I said I didn't have an opinion on you?" I glowered.
"Has it changed?"
"Yes, I hate you." I growled and headed for the door.
"Ellie." He stopped me at the door, "my opinion of you has changed as well, you're not so bad."
"Definitely high." I rolled my eyes before disappearing in a gust of wind.
I arrived at the exam site and my blood sugar plummeted. The edges of my vision darkened and I started to feel dizzy and light headed. I reached for the nearest surface and leaned myself against a wall just outside of the stairwell to get to the spectator seating. I slipped down the wall and sat on the ground with my head in my hands waiting for the dizzy spell to pass.
Once it passed, I realized my predicament, I was sitting on the ground and unable to get up. If I called Toshinori I'd just turn into a sobbing mess. Just thinking about talking to him was making me emotional.
"Oh god, are there really two of you, parasites in there?" I poked my belly as tears welled in my eyes.
A few minutes went by as I tried to calm myself down before I heard a familiar aggravated groan. "I was hoping today would be a stress-free day."
I looked up through tear filled eyes to find the ever-grumpy Endeavor standing in front of me with his arms folded in front of his chest. "Go away!"
He frowned. "If I do that, are you capable of standing up on your own?" He asked me with a knowing smile.
"Y-yes." I snapped back stubbornly.
He rolled his eyes and knelt beside me before gently sliding an arm behind my back to help me to my feet. "Even if I believed you, you're a fall risk right now, you shouldn't be on your own, where's your usele-," he stopped himself and cleared his throat, "where's your husband?" Oh, it was possible to teach an old dog new tricks after all.
"What the hell do you mean I'm a fall risk?!" I glowered, "the only people at risk of falling are people who piss me off."
"Your blood sugar levels were fluctuating right? That's what led to this?" He asked surprisingly calm.
I refused to answer and threw him a scathing look which he took as a yes.
"That makes you a fall risk." He shrugged, "It's not uncommon to happen to women when they carry babies."
"Babies?!" I squeaked, "why did you say babies?!"
Endeavor frowned again, "I don't understand, you are aware that you're pregnant, right? Why are you freaking out?"
"I'm not freaking out! You're freaking out!" I snapped childishly and tried to storm away but found myself immobile as he still had a firm grip on me and was in the process of keeping me upright. The realization that the only reason I was standing up was because Flame Face was supporting me was apparently breakdown worthy thanks to the insane hormones and all the crazy from this morning. "Why?!"
Endeavor looked as if he were asking that very question to himself right now, "why what?"
"Why do you always have to be the one here when I fall apart?!" I cried.
"Believe me, I'd like to avoid it." He grumbled as he swept me off my feet. He carried me up the stairs without another word before stepping into the spectator area. Pausing, he scanned the seats before spotting whatever or whoever he was looking for and set off again. "You. Fix this." He grumbled as he dumped me into Toshinori's arms before sitting a few seats away from us with a sigh.
"Ellie? Are you okay?" Toshinori asked worried as he recovered from his shock.
I bit my lip.
"Did everything go okay with Nighteye?"
"...twins..." I breathed.
"What?"
"...he said they're twins..." I pointed to my baby bump. Toshinori's eyes grew wide and a brilliant smile lit up his face. Before he could say anything, his happy moment was trampled by the surly one.
"Oh joy, double trouble." Endeavor grumbled nearby and I shot him a glare.
"Fuck off Flame Face!" I snarled.
"Oh good, you're back to normal."
Toshinori looked between the pair of us with a smile, "it's good to see you two getting along."
"Toshi-chan, I think you need your eyes and ears checked, we are NOT getting along." I growled which only seemed to widen his smile.
He ignored my sass and smiled, "I guess I'll have to make some changes to the nursery." He kissed the top of my head. "Is it a boy or a girl?"
"Why aren't you freaking out?!" I snapped at him.
"Boy or girl?" He asked calmly. Him staying calm made it easier for me to breathe and relax and eventually calm too.
"...girl..."
"A boy and a girl?" He asked with stars in his eyes.
I felt my face begin to burn with heat as a few other nearby spectators began to look our way including Shota and some female pro hero I didn't know with mint green hair. Shota offered me a smile and a nod, as if to say 'congrats'. As I sat up and was about to pull away, Toshinori lifted me up so he could kiss my belly.
"Thank you, Ellie." His sweet sincere smile made my heart swell and caused tears to well in my eyes.
"For what?"
"Being the number one wife." He gently caressed my cheek sweeping a few stray locks of dark hair out of my face, "and soon to be the number one mom." He grinned.
"I-idiot." I grumbled and pulled away from him before flopping into the seat next to him not liking the amount of attention we were receiving from the few other spectators in the seating area around us. It was mostly teachers and a few parents to oversee the exam.
By the time I'd gotten to the site the exams were almost over. Toshinori looked over at me curiously as I watched my students progress below. Ojiro and Toru were doing well. Bakugo was being a little too aggressive during the rescue portion. I had a feeling he was going to get docked for his behavior.
"What did Nighteye say about-?"
"No death by Yakuza." I shrugged.
He looked relieved, "good. Anything else about the babies?" When he said babies, his face lit up again.
"Emergency c-section I assume, but they'll both be fine." I shrugged as I watched Bakugo yelling at some victims he was supposed to be rescuing.
"What?!" Toshinori's eyes grew wide. "What about you?"
"I didn't ask." I shrugged again.
Toshinori reached over and caught me by the chin turning me to face him, "why?"
"I'll be fine." I attempted to reassure him.
"How do you know?"
"Because if you think death is keeping me from these parasites, you don't know me very well, I'll kick his ass if he even tries." I smirked.
Toshinori shook his head at my declaration. "Just try to be careful, Ellie."
I nodded but said nothing more as I pulled out my phone to text Shinso. Better tell him now before he hears it from someone else and gets mad at me again.
E: Apparently, it's twins.
S: I'm stepping down as honorary big brother to the terror twins, good luck with your demon spawn.
I couldn't help but smile at my student's snappy response. I still couldn't believe it. Once the exam finished, I looked over at Endeavor. Icy Hot, and Bakugo had failed, but they'd be allowed to take a remedial course and retake the test in three months. Endeavor didn't look angry as I had expected. He looked more frustrated on behalf of his son not that he had done poorly but because Shoto was upset. Perhaps he wasn't the worst after all.
"I should probably go talk to anger management hedgehog before he blows someone up." I sighed and made a move to get up.
"I'll walk with you." Toshinori got to his feet and helped me up before keeping an arm firmly around my waist to support me.
I didn't protest and let him lead me to the exit. A few minutes later the students started filing out the door. Bakugo was at the back of the class glaring at everyone and everything in sight.
"Ellie! All Might!" Class 1A greeted us with smiles.
"We're having twins!" Toshinori grinned unable to contain his excitement.
"I think what he meant to say, was well done on the exam." I supplied with an eyeroll.
"TWINS?!"
"Yep, I'm walking away now, too much peopling." I shrugged out of Toshinori's grasp and grabbed anger management hedgehog in an awkward head lock since he was too tall before dragging him away from the others.
"What the hell?!" Bakugo growled.
"Shut up, punk. I just want to make sure you're not beating yourself up." I flicked him on the head once I released him from my hold.
He rubbed the now red spot on his forehead and glared at me.
"From what I saw, you were fine everywhere except people skills-."
"You're one to talk!" He snarled.
"I'm going to send you flying you little shit." I snapped as I lost all patience.
"And you're supposed to help me with my people skills?" He scoffed.
"I never said I was going to, I'm not a people person, I was going to enlist the help of the most annoyingly cheerful people person I've ever met." I flicked him again.
"Who might that be?" He asked with a sigh.
"That idiot I married." I pointed over at Toshinori who was excitedly talking with all the students about baby things and the exam. It looked like a hot mess of a conversation I wanted no part in.
Bakugo was quiet for a moment before nodding his head. "Fine."
"You'll pass the next one. Don't worry." I smiled and ruffled his hair.
He was quiet as we returned to the group.
Toshinori and I took Midoriya out for a celebratory dinner for passing and getting his provisional hero license. Unsurprisingly he picked the fanboy restaurant Shinso had made me go to. I had a feeling Toshinori told him about it. The two of them geeked out and all the servers wanted to get a picture with Toshinori and I, though I sent every one of them flying away from me. Toshinori happily told the entire restaurant we were having twins and the whole ordeal became rather obnoxious rather quickly but Toshinori and Midoriya really seemed to be enjoying themselves, so I toughed it out.
As I was watching the two nerds geek out about all the cool things during the exam a small smile twisted onto my lips as I thought of a name. Toshinori had picked Eli, a name of someone I loved and looked up to who had been taken away from me too soon.
"What about Nana?" I blurted before I could stop myself.
"Huh, for a baby name?" Izuku asked me curiously as I derailed their conversation.
I nodded and looked to Toshinori. He was staring at me in stunned silence. Tears welled in his eyes and he broke into a smile.
