Chapter Fifty Six
~Ellie's POV~
Toshinori was having another lesson with Todoroki and Bakugo and offered to keep an eye on the twins. He suggested Eri and I spend the day together doing some shopping. It seemed like he wanted us out of the house. I didn't argue and called Aizawa and the Fanboy to see if they wanted to join us for shopping.
"Have fun shopping, you two." Toshinori gave me an affectionate kiss goodbye and gave Eri a gentle pat on the head. We were both bundled up in warm winter gear, on the porch getting ready to leave.
She offered him a meek smile and a nod as she slipped her hand in mine. I was happy to see she was warming up to Toshinori too. "Are you sure you don't want me to take the twins?" I asked him, feeling a little apprehensive parting from them all.
"We'll be fine, you two, enjoy your shopping." He smiled. "Maybe you could make a day of it, go to a spa, see a movie." There was an innocent smile on his face I didn't trust.
"Toshinori, are you plotting something?" I asked him with a frown.
Eri looked up at me curiously at this before turning her curious ruby eyes to Toshinori.
"That sounds positively criminal, Ellie." He sighed, "no plots."
I looked down at Eri, "I don't believe him...do you?"
She shook her head.
Toshinori choked at this, "what did I do?"
"As long as this isn't another, I bought a house without telling my wife, surprise, I guess it's fine." I shrugged before looking down at Eri, "ready to go?"
She nodded and tightened her grip on my hand.
"Have fun." Toshinori called after us as we disappeared in a strong wind.
We landed softly outside of a large shopping mall. It was fairly busy with people bustling about trying to get a start on their holiday shopping. It was near the end of November and already quite chilly. I looked down at Eri to make sure she wasn't too chilled. She took a step closer to me, partially hiding herself behind me and gripped me tightly, there were a lot of people.
"Would you feel safer if I carried you?" I asked her softly.
She nodded and scrambled into my arms before I could pick her up.
I smiled and scanned the surrounding area to look for something to distract us "we might have to wait a little on the others." My gaze fell on a cute little kiosk selling beautifully decorated holiday cookies, "how about a cookie while we wait?"
She followed my gaze and spotted the cookie kiosk before nodding a little shyly.
I moved to the cookie kiosk using my quirk to create undetectable shifts in the wind to keep people away from us. They couldn't feel it or see it but they weren't able to get any closer to us. Some people began to notice but I didn't really care. We only had to wait a few minutes in line at the cookie kiosk before a plump woman with a warm cheery smile greeted us.
"Good morning dearies, what can I get for you?" She asked us in a grandmotherly tone.
I looked to Eri, "think we should get cookies for the boys too?"
She nodded.
"Alright, think a dozen is good enough?"
Another nod.
"Would you point them out to the nice lady?" I asked her with a smile.
She was starting to relax. Thankfully the cookie kiosk lady was nonthreatening and Eri was able to point to the cookies she liked. There were a lot of angel, teddy bear and tree cookies.
After the dozen cookies she picked out were boxed I smiled once more, "and which two should we eat now?"
She pointed to two more cookies, a duck and a rabbit each with a cute little Santa hat. The cookie kiosk lady happily obliged and offered us the two cookies in a parchment paper sleeve as she put the box with the other dozen in a bag and handed it to me. I paid for the cookies and we went back near the mall entrance to wait as we nibbled on our adorable treats. I set Eri down on an empty bench and placed the box of cookies next to her so no one would sit next to her. She happily nibbled on her rabbit cookie.
"Alright, so our shopping list for the day, decorations for your bedroom, clothes, toys, an apron and do you think it would be silly to get the entire family matching pajamas?"
Eri smiled, "no."
"Alright, matching pajamas are now on the list." I smiled as I took a bite out of my duck cookie.
Eri giggled softly.
A hand clapped down on my shoulder from behind. I instinctively brought my elbow back into the diaphragm of whoever had touched me and nearly dislocated their shoulder as I wrenched hard on their arm and hurled them over my shoulder.
A very shocked Present Mic stared up at me as he landed flat on his back on the ground in front of me. My foot was resting on his chest. I shot him a scowl, "every god damn time, are you a fucking idiot?" I hissed at him.
"...my...bad..." he wheezed.
"I don't feel bad anymore, you seriously should know better by now. Wear a fucking bell or something you moron!" I snapped at him.
Eri giggled softly.
"Bell...got it..." Present Mic wheezed as he tried to regulate his breathing.
I sighed and offered him a hand up, "seriously, you're the loudest person I know, how do you keep sneaking up on me?"
"It's really not my intention." He coughed as he dropped onto the bench next to Eri.
She offered him a cookie from the box of cookies we'd just gotten. He smiled and accepted one of the angel cookies.
"She's the sweetest." Present Mic sobbed dramatically.
I rolled my eyes at him.
"Sorry we're late, we picked up a stray along the way." Aizawa's voice sounded from behind me. "We brought cookies as an apology."
I turned to see Aizawa, the Fanboy and a familiar child with a red hat with gold spikes, Kota. Midoriya held a box of cookies in his hand, there were a bunch of rabbits, ducks and Santa cookies inside.
"Hey brat, long time no see." I waved to Kota.
He offered me a small smile before his gaze fell on Eri. He looked at her for a long moment, his cheeks reddening slightly and he appeared as if he didn't know what to say or how to act. It was awkward and adorable. I decided to come to his rescue and introduce them.
"Kota, this is Eri...Eri, this is Kota, you're both part of that idiot's fan club." I introduced them before motioning to Midoriya.
"I have a fan club?" Midoriya asked with stars in his eyes.
"Missed the idiot part." Present Mic chuckled.
After everyone had gotten a cookie, we all made our way inside the mall. Present Mic offered to carry the bags and trailed along behind us with the cookies. Eri seemed unsure if she should socialize with Kota or stick with me and opted with clinging to my hand. Kota walked on her opposite side unsure of what to do. Midoriya was next to him and Aizawa was on my other side. We took up quite a bit of space but with the help of my quirk I was easily able to push people away from us and keep the flow of traffic going smoothly with only a few people wondering what the hell had pushed them.
Deciding to help Kota out again as I realized he'd adorably become stricken with a kiddie crush on Eri, I spoke up, "alright kids hold hands so no one gets lost."
Kota blushed and took Eri's free hand. I rolled my eyes as Midoriya jolted at my command and grabbed Kota's opposite hand causing the younger boy to scowl and kick him in the shin. "Uh, Midoriya, I don't think you count as a kid," Present Mic snickered from behind us.
"Oh, I suppose you're right." Midoriya laughed while still hopping on one foot, looking quite ridiculous as he was still rubbing his aching shin without falling behind.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the fanboy. The six of us wandered the mall, Kota helped Eri pick out some toys, she seemed excited about a green plush rabbit and I realized it was because it looked similar to Midoriya in his hero attire and couldn't help but smile. He was so much like Toshinori.
After toys, we found a few decorations Eri liked for her room. Nearly two hours into our shopping adventure, Eri felt comfortable enough to let go of my hand. She and Kota seemed to be getting along well though she still wasn't speaking much. Kota didn't seem to mind and I had a feeling he picked up on the fact that she'd recently been through quite an ordeal.
Present Mic was starting to struggle with the bags and quietly asked Shota for help. Shota shrugged, "you offered to carry the bags." He replied mercilessly.
As we walked past a shop window I froze as I spotted a pair of All Might baby onesies and before I could stop myself a squeal escaped me. Present Mic stared at me in awe as if he'd been unaware, I could make such a sound. Eri and Kota were looking at me with smiles and Midoriya was looking around to see what had made me squeal. Aizawa was the first to spot it and chuckled softly.
"You're hopeless." Aizawa snickered.
Midoriya finally spotted the onesies and gasped, "oh my gosh! The twins need them!"
"I know that already!" I snapped at him embarrassed and stormed into the store. Eri and Kota were at my heels with Midoriya and a chuckling Aizawa behind them and Present Mic struggling to drag all of our purchases, much farther behind them.
Eri tugged at my hand as I reached for the onesies. I looked down at her curiously.
"Matching pajamas?" She smiled.
"It's perfect!" I grinned and sent Midoriya and Kota on a mission to find one in Toshinori's size as Eri and I went to look for one in her size.
We found one for Eri pretty quickly and a few other outfits she liked along the way. All the ones in the women's department were too big and I resorted to getting a large size in the kids' department which Eri found amusing. The boys returned with one in Toshinori's size and we went to checkout.
"You grabbed two kids ones." Present Mic pointed as the cashier rang them up.
My face flushed scarlet, "shut up, one's mine."
Shota held back a laugh.
Present Mic was not as tactful and let out a chortle. "That's so cute."
I swiftly punched him in the gut causing him to double over before turning back to the register as if nothing had happened.
"Hizashi, I'm starting to worry about you. I think you might be depressed." Shota mumbled.
"Depressed? Why would you think that?" Hizashi wheezed.
"You're clearly suicidal, stop provoking her."
"Right. My bad." Present Mic coughed as he got his breathing under control.
The cashier handed me the bags and I roughly slammed them into Present Mic's gut, winding him once more. He nearly crumpled under the weight of all the bags but miraculously managed to drag them and himself after us as we continued on our way.
Eri's stomach let out a soft grumble and she blushed.
"Hungry?" I pondered.
She nodded meekly.
"Then let's grab some lunch, we've been shopping for quite a while." I suggested, "you kids decide."
"I know!" Midoriya squealed excitedly as he thought of a place.
I chuckled at this.
Eri and Kota looked up at him curiously, neither of them seemed to mind if he decided.
"Sure, whatever." I shrugged.
Midoriya pointed across the way to a somewhat familiar ghastly looking sight. There was hero memorabilia exploding out the door. It was the hero café, apparently it was a fucking chain restaurant! I must have visibly paled as Shota snickered at my side.
"You alright, Ellie?" He chuckled.
"Kill me now." I hissed at him as Midoriya and the kids scampered to the hero café, Midoriya the most excited of all.
"Yikes, that looks like a hot mess." Present Mic noted the tacky décor with distaste. There was hero stuff on every surface and spilling out into the mall from the entrance.
The three of us reluctantly followed the children. As we stepped through the revolving doors into the restaurant, I let out a loud groan as I spotted a very familiar hulking man with flaming facial hair looking as if he'd rather be anywhere but here. His daughter, Fuyumi was with him again and she greeted us with a warm smile.
"WHY?!" Endeavor and I snarled at each other simultaneously before we each pointed at the ones responsible for bringing us here. He pointed at his daughter and I pointed at the Fanboy.
"Table for 8?" A somewhat familiar voice sounded from the host's stand.
I turned and spotted the same guy we'd had to deal with at the other location.
His eyes grew wide, "LADY MIGHT!" He squealed.
"Ugh, someone shoot me." I groaned.
Aizawa erased my quirk before I could start sending people flying and I somehow found myself seated at a giant table in a private room with enough space for Present Mic to drop all of our bags. We were seated with Endeavor and his daughter, Fuyumi. I hadn't even been given a chance to protest. Shota kept my quirk erased and Endeavor picked me up and carried me before I could start throwing punches.
"What the hell?!" I snarled at them both.
"This was easier." Endeavor sighed as he rubbed his temples in frustration.
"Also, best to keep you away from the public." Aizawa pointed.
"Yeah, Mommy Might rage is no jo-." Hizashi began but cut off as his chair was knocked out from under him in a violent gust of wind. He smacked the floor and Endeavor and Shota both shook their heads at him.
Oblivious to my rage, Eri sat beside me with Kota on her opposite side. They were both looking around curiously at the décor before distracting themselves with the kid's menus they could color on. Midoriya had also been given a kid's menu which he seemed happy with as it had an All Might coloring page on it.
The server almost handed me a kid's menu but it was snatched out of his hand by Endeavor and incinerated on the spot. The server, a Hawks cosplayer, jumped and realized his mistake, "sorry about that." He blushed and handed me an adult menu.
Present Mic picked himself up off the floor and elbowed Shota in the side, "is this real life or did Mommy Might give me a concussion?"
"More than that, you're in a coma and have been for weeks." Shota replied seriously.
Present Mic paled, "what?!"
"Idiot." Endeavor and I grumbled simultaneously before glaring at one another.
Present Mic opened his mouth to make a comment but Shota saved his life by covering his mouth, "Hizashi, I implore you to keep whatever comments you have, to yourself. For your safety and my peace of mind."
Fuyumi was thoroughly amused by the whole ordeal. The kids and Midoriya were still distracted by their menus.
Everyone, including the staff at the hero explosion café, survived lunch. I gave Kota my contact information to give to his aunt so he and Eri could have playdates. Eri and I said farewell and I used my quirk to get us and all of our purchases back home. We arrived in the front yard and I paused as I realized there were now icicle lights hanging off the roof and various Christmas lawn ornaments in the yard.
Eri noticed too and looked to me curiously.
"I'm thinking big idiot number one got into the Christmas spirit." I grumbled.
Eri giggled softly as we headed inside.
The living room looked like The North Pole had exploded inside of it. There were not one, but three undecorated Christmas trees, one giant one in the living room, a small one in the dining room and a medium one near the stairs. The fireplace had stockings hung and various tinsel and other Christmas decorations I didn't know we had all over it.
I spotted a very exhausted looking Bakugo and Todoroki covered head to toe in glitter, tinsel and what looked like fake snow sprawled across the couch.
"What the hell happened?" I leaned over the couch and poked Bakugo on the forehead.
"A holly jolly nightmare." Bakugo growled.
"Looks like it." I snickered and dropped a box of cookies between the two of them, "here have some cookies."
Eri and I headed up stairs. There was Christmas garland on the hand rail. For some reason the entire house smelled like cinnamon and pine. That idiot, Christmas was still over a month away, why was he going overboard?!
"Toshinori?"
The door to the nursery opened and Toshinori stepped out in a Santa costume with Nana and Eli wearing little elf costumes in his arms, "ho, ho ho, there's my missing elf and Mrs. Clause too."
"Has all the brain damage finally caught up to you?" I asked him seriously as I folded my arms in front of my chest.
Eri smiled brightly as she spotted the twins in their costumes.
"What? No! I thought we could send out a holiday card this year with the whole family on it so instead of going to a studio, the boys helped me decorate early so we can take them here."
My heart swelled with joy, "you're the best."
"There are costumes waiting for you both. Young Eri yours is in your room. Ellie yours is in our room." He ushered us off to change.
Eri happily scampered off to her room.
I found a cute red dress that looked similar to a Santa suit with some white stockings and a Santa hat lying on the bed. I changed quickly and stepped out of the room to find Eri in a cute green elf dress with a matching hat.
"You look adorable." I smiled.
We headed downstairs for a family photo. Todoroki took a few for us before Bakugo yelled at him and told him he sucked at it and took over. The holiday photoshoot was over quickly and the boys took some cookies for the road and headed back to the school dorms.
Eri tugged on my arm gently. "Can we wear matching pajamas now?" She asked with a smile.
I nodded, "sure, lets see if we can find them in the mountain of goodies."
Toshinori looked to us curiously as we began searching the bags of things we'd purchased throughout the day until we found the pajamas.
"You got matching pajamas?" He asked us with a smile.
"For the whole family." Eri piped up softly with a grin.
"Me too?" Toshinori asked happily.
Eri nodded.
We managed to find the All Might onesies we'd gotten for everyone and Toshinori chuckled. "I feel like Mommy Might picked these out."
"Sh-shut up." I grumbled.
Everyone got changed again and I put our purchases away and started on dinner. Eri opened up a little more and told Toshinori about our shopping adventures during dinner. She told him about how much fun she had with everyone and all the fun things we saw at the mall, and the hero café.
After dinner, the five of us gathered on the couch, in our All Might pajamas and watched cartoons. Eri was comfortably snuggled between Toshinori and I, and Eli was sound asleep atop my chest and Nana sound asleep atop Toshinori. I smiled to myself as my heart swelled. I'd never imagined I'd have perfect little moments like this in my life. Everything was blissful and perfect and I never wanted it to end.
