Chapter Fifty Seven
~Ellie's POV~
Toshinori, the kids, and I were sitting in the living room in our matching All Might pajamas watching cartoons. Eri was having fun hanging some popsicle stick and paper ornaments she and I had made the night before on the tree. I smiled as I looked to Toshinori bouncing Eli and Nana in his arms. As I was about to suggest we all go shopping for some more ornaments, an emergency broadcast interrupted the cartoons.
The TV shifted to a live news broadcast, there was a Nomu in Fukuoka, Endeavor and Hawks were on the scene and appeared to be in rough shape. It looked like they'd been fighting for some time. I stiffened as Endeavor took a nasty hit to the face, blood sprayed everywhere. Toshinori stared at the TV in horror. He wanted to be there to save everyone.
I clenched my fists.
Toshinori looked over at me worried, "Ellie?"
"I love you." I breathed before sprinting out the door, disappearing in a hellish vortex of wind.
A moment later I appeared in a debris strewn street in time to see a horrifying Nomu lunging at Endeavor as he was barely managing to stay on his feet. In the distance I could hear panicked civilians screaming and trying to run away. In the din of screams I heard one voice shouting above the rest to have faith in Endeavor. I darted forward. Endeavor seemed momentarily caught off guard as a strong wind wrenched him out of the Nomu's way. I heard him let out a choked cough as I flew past him.
"E-Ellie?!"
"FUCK OFF!" I roared as I swung a fist encased in blades of wind at the massive Nomu with the unusually long neck. It seemed different than any other Nomu I'd encountered.
The Nomu recovered much quicker than I had expected; it caught itself in midair seeming to be able to fly. It tilted its disturbingly long neck to the side until it's face was upside down grinning back at me. "You're strong." It said in a gleeful voice.
"It can talk?!" I gaped at the monstrous creature.
It lunged at me, moving faster than any other Nomu I'd faced before. It's body rapidly repaired the damage my blades of wind had done to it as it flew at me.
"Ellie!" A strong arm hooked around my waist and I felt myself get wrenched backward as the Nomu tried to attack me. Endeavor swung a flaming fist at the Nomu before staggering and collapsing to his knees. Anger bubbled up inside of me.
"If you get blood all over my new pajamas, you're dead, flame face." I glowered at him.
He took a look at me as the Nomu flew backward, "what the hell are you wearing?" He scowled.
"I just fucking told you, they're pajamas." I snapped at him.
"You look ridiculous." He growled.
"And you look like you're knocking on death's door." I shot back.
"Its not that bad." He attempted to get to his feet as the Nomu recovered but his legs wouldn't support him. He was ill equipped to fight something that regenerated this fast and had been fighting it for a long while. He was at his limit.
I broke from his hold, "for future reference, I didn't need your help, I came here to save you."
"Ellie look out!" He called to me as the Nomu lunged.
"I don't need saving." I scowled at Endeavor. The gale winds shrieked and screamed as they tore through the city deafening all other sounds.
Endeavor help up his hands to shield his eyes from the debris, dust, dirt and pebbles flying through the air. He stared at me in awe as I held his gaze not even bothering to look at my opponent, I could feel his every move as he tried to fight against the winds. He opened his mouth; I couldn't hear him but it looked like he'd mouthed my name. Was he still seriously worried for me? Did he have any idea who I'd married and what that meant?
I smirked and sent a single massive blade of wind at the Nomu severing its head from its body. "You forget who I am, Flame Face."
Endeavor gaped at me.
Someone dropped to the ground a moment later as the winds died down. "That was pretty brutal, Lady Might." A voice I didn't recognize sounded behind me.
I turned and spotted the current second ranked hero, Hawks. He was in his early twenties, he had tawny golden eyes, feathery ashen blonde hair, a charming smile and usually had two crimson wings behind his back though he seemed to be lacking most of his feathers at this point. There was something behind his charming smile I didn't trust. Just from one look in his eyes, I knew he was caught up in something, something bad and it was causing him a lot of stress. Before I could respond to him, I heard a familiar voice that set my nerves on edge.
"Not very peaceful, Mrs. Symbol of Peace." I turned and spotted Dabi approaching the three of us with a smirk. His piercing teal eyes flicked to the other two beat up heroes at my side before returning to me.
"As I've told you or your stupid mud clone before, that is my husband's title and you don't have your pesky contraption friend with you this time, you sure you want to be pissing me off?" I smiled sweetly.
His lips twitched, twisting into a smile. "Not so sure you're as much of a threat as before, you've been out of the scene for a while, rough delivery?"
I clenched my fists. Hellacious winds whipped all around me sending Hawks and Endeavor sliding back a few paces. "ELLIE!" Endeavor roared behind me as I darted forward ready to knock that twisted smile off Dabi's face. "He's goading you into close quarters!"
"It fucking worked." I snarled as I sprinted forward.
Dabi seemed momentarily taken aback by my speed and took a hurried step back to avoid my first swing. "Touchy subject?" He chuckled softly.
His smile fell as a strong gust of wind shoved him toward me and he fell face first into my fist as I swung at him with all my might. There was a sickening crack from his jaw but I didn't let him fall away from me and punched him again in the ribs. There was another sickening crack. A little bit of blood dribbled from the corner of his lips. There was a spark of fear in his teal gaze as he realized too late, he'd pushed me too far.
Reflexively he cast his hands out and a surge of blazing hot blue flames created a barrier around us and the other two, barely standing, heroes. I swung at him again, he recovered in time to catch my wrist in his hand. I felt a searing pain as his quirk activated once again but I refused to give him the satisfaction of crying out in pain and retaliated with a kick to the ribs on his opposite side of the ones I'd just cracked.
He winced in pain as there was another sickening crack. I spun my arm in his hand so I could grip his arm before spinning into him. With a single tug I flipped him over my shoulder. His back hit the pavement, hard. I brought my foot down on his neck still gripping his arm tightly in mine ignoring the burns now bubbling up all across my wrist from his quirk.
"You messed with the wrong fucking family." I hissed down at him.
His eyes widened as he realized I was done playing around, his life was on the line. He moved his lips but no sound came out as I was applying too much pressure to his throat. A black liquid suddenly expelled from his lips and soon encased him, teleporting him away from me. I glared down where he had been and clenched my fists. There was a shriek as winds tore away from my body and several small slashes appeared in the ground around me from the explosive force of my quirk.
"Ellie!" Endeavor struggled with Hawks' help to get to me. He took one look at my arm and grimaced, "you need to get that looked at."
I shrugged my shoulders the rage I felt successfully blocked all the pain. "It's fine. You two look like shit." I pointed.
"You're not at all what I was expecting." Hawks chuckled.
I rolled my eyes at this before looking down at my All Might onesie. There was blood on it. "You got blood on my pajamas Flame Face!" I raged.
"That's your biggest concern?!" Endeavor roared causing Hawks to laugh once more.
"You two must be pretty good friends." Hawks mused.
"SHUT UP!" Endeavor and I snarled simultaneously.
"This is perfect." Hawks snickered.
"I'll buy you new ones if you go get that looked at." Endeavor pointed to my arm, I glanced down it was a burned mess.
"You'll buy me new ones or you'll be dead, as I stated earlier." I pointed before glancing over their various injuries, they were in bad shape. "Hospital?"
They both nodded.
I waved my uninjured hand at them and they were both swept up in a strong gust of wind. It would drop them safely outside the nearest hospital. Police officers soon flooded the street to collect the corpse of the Nomu I'd slaughtered and provide whatever other kind of damage control they could. My anger began to dwindle away as I helped the police, sidekicks and other emergency responders to get the debris cleaned up.
"LADY MIGHT! THANK YOU FOR SAVING US!" A crowd of civilians cheered as they got closer to gawk at all the damage that had been done.
"Shut up." I grumbled not liking the attention. "If you want to thank anyone, thank All Might."
"Huh?" A few of them stared at me curiously as I took off in a strong gust of wind.
I landed outside of the staff dorms at UA and went in search of Recovery Girl. There wasn't a lot she'd be able to do for the burns with her quirk, but I knew Toshinori would be upset if I didn't get it looked at by someone. With the help of her quirk and vast medical knowledge it was cleaned, bandaged and I didn't feel as much pain. The nasty burns spread from my wrist halfway up my forearm.
After I'd doctored the burn, I returned home. Toshinori was waiting for me on the front porch. He took one look at the fresh bandages wrapped around my arm and frowned. Worry lines creased his brow. "Ellie?"
"It's not that bad, Toshi-chan." I offered him a reassuring smile.
He stepped off the porch and swept me into his arms cradling me against him, "thank you for saving everyone."
He was the only reason I did any of it. He wanted to save the world. I loved him more than anything and would save it for him. I hugged him back tightly, "always."
Toshinori carried me inside. The twins were sound asleep in their cute ducky printed bouncers, Eri got up from the sofa and ran to us with a cry that nearly broke my heart, "Mommy!" She called me mommy!
I wriggled out of Toshinori's hold and caught her in my arms ignoring the slight ache from my wrapped burns as I held her against me. "Sorry for worrying you, Eri." Tears welled in my eyes.
She hugged me tightly burying her face in my neck. I'd have to be more careful about getting hurt in the future, I didn't want to scare her. Toshinori kissed the top of my head before going to check on the twins.
"I'll be more careful next time, promise." I gave her a squeeze.
Toshinori smiled.
