Chapter 7: Signed, sealed and scene.
The next days went normal. Dean hasn't showed up with the documents which I'm grateful for. I've been living my life easily without worries and I even got a promotion.
The extra money would come in handy. My parents have been coming once in a while to 'check up on me' which I doubt very much.
Well, the good thing that came out of this is that, I've started watching the news. At least, dad said it was a good thing, I only watch for about five minutes before I fall asleep.
I can't help it. It's like torture listening and watching someone look as if they're staring directly at you. It's really creepy if you ask me.
It's Saturday morning and I'm trying very hard to keep my eyes open as I stare at the woman inside the screen. Just when I'm about to give up, a video pops up and I immediately sat straight, staring wide eyed at the screen.
"Breaking news! The multi billionaire heir to the Clinton's Company, Dean Clinton was spotted in a hotel with the super model, Tatiana Williams. It was reported that the model was said to be drunk and the billionaire took advantage of her in that state. Another source claimed that the billionaire was getting married soon and the whole video was a set up."
Just then a video of Dean pops up and a bunch of reporters crowding him while his body guards were trying to push them back.
"Whoever took that video was clearly trying to set me up. None of that was true." Dean argued.
"But is it true that you're getting married? Who is it? Is she one of the actress you've dated in the past?" A reporter asks.
"That information is private. I don't have to answer that." He concluded and started making his way to his car.
"What of the model, Tatiana Williams? Are you dating? Is she the one you're getting married to? Is she-" Dean's bodyguards blocked the reporters way and stopped them from asking any questions.
The woman pops back up and sighed, faking pity, "It is indeed a mystery to all. I sincerely sympathize with the soon to be wife." She looked down for about two seconds before looking back up and putting on a bright smile.
"In other news, Josh Slick, the world's fastest eater just broke his latest record and set a new one. He ate 100 hotdogs within the space of ten minutes."
Her face fell once again, "Sadly, the moment was cut short when he collapsed immediately after setting the new record. The doctor in charge of him reported that he is in a severe condition and he's not sure if the legend would survive this one."
She continued, "We hope and pray he would get better soon."
I put off the TV and fell back on the chair.
That self centered jerk! Does he want to ruin the plan?! Why can't he just control himself?!
I was angry at him for this close to ruining the plan. Yeah, I know we haven't yet sealed the deal, but still, he should-
My phone started ringing. I looked at the caller ID and it said unknown. I ended the call I didn't like answering stranger's calls.
It rang again and the same number appeared. I decided to answer it, it could be important.
I placed the phone on my ear and waited for the person to speak up.
"Hello?" A deep voice came through the phone.
"Uh, hello? Who's this?" I asked.
"Is this Gracie Friday?" The voice asked.
"Well, I asked a question first. You shouldn't reply with a question but an answer. It's rude." I firmly stated.
There was a pause on the line, "I take it this is Gracie, seeing your attitude." The voice retorted.
"Wow! Isn't this day just great. First of all, I forced myself to watch the news where I saw this arrogant jerk on TV that has issues and trying to ruin a well thought out plan for somebody and now a random stranger is calling and making-why am I even telling you this?"
"Maybe just maybe because you're dumb." The voice snickered at the end.
I gritted my teeth in annoyance, "Well, Mr know it all, I'm done having this conversation. I'm hanging up." I concluded and was about to press the button when the voice shouted.
"Wait! Okay, this is John, John Harsh. Ring a bell?"
John my ass. How did he even get my number?
"Yeah, John. What do you want?" I tried not to sound irritated but I'm guessing I failed miserably.
"Meet me at the coffee shop across the street from your house in ten minutes." He said.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "Why?"
He sighed a long dramatic one, "You'll know when you get there, won't you now, Gracie?" He mimicked that of a little girl's voice.
So immature.
"Whatever." I replied and was about to hang up when he stopped me.
"Wait! Don't hang up."
"Why?"
I could feel his smirk as he replied, "Because, I'm hanging up first." With that, he hung up.
I gaped at the phone in amusement.
The nerve of him!
After glaring long and hard at the phone, I decided to get ready and meet him at the coffee shop.
I put on a navy blue sweater and a black fitted jeans with a scarf around my neck.
It's getting chilly outside at this time of the month.
As I stepped out of the apartment, the cool breeze immediately swept across my face and I shivered, rubbing my hands together for warmth.
I picked up my pace and saw the coffee shop few feet away. This was one of my favorite coffee place to go to. Good thing I craved for it now.
I entered the shop and a little bell tingled, signaling a customer's arrival. The place was warm and I heaved a sigh of relief. Looking around, I spotted John at the far end of the shop with a cap on and a scarf around his neck.
How did I know it was him since he was wearing for cap? Well, because he was staring at me like a creep and he gave his famous cocky smirk. Also, under all the disguise, I could still recognize him.
He might have fooled me once but not twice.
Strolling over to him, I plopped down opposite of him.
"You know, you can just sit near me. I don't bite." He grinned cockily.
I smiled, "I'd rather not."
He shrugged, "Your loss. You're missing all of these." He motioned to himself.
I shook my head, "Your cockiness will get you nowhere. What's with the disguise."
He looked taken aback for a second, "This is not a disguise!"
I raised an eyebrow, folding my arms over my chest, "Yeah? What do you call a hat, sunglasses indoors, and a scarf around your neck?"
He paused, deep in thought, "It's the latest trend in the fashion world! Besides, it's cold."
"Sure it is." I drawled out.
Well, I couldn't argue with that.
"Anyways, I called you here for-" Before he could finish, a waiter came to our table to get our order.
"Good day, may I take your order?" He asked politely but his eyes were trained on me.
He looked about 27 and he was quite hot. He had dirty blonde hair and ocean blue eyes that could make your knees go weak.
John coughed, "Yeah, I'll have the strongest coffee you've got and she'll have-"
I interrupted him, "Just a milkshake, please."
He wrote it on his notebook and smiled, "I'll be back with your order." He winked at me.
I blushed deep crimson, fiddling with my fingers. He tipped off his imaginary hat before glancing at John who was glaring hard at him.
When he left, John snapped his head to me, "What was that?" He growled.
I frowned, "What was what?"
"All that with the waiter guy. You guys were openly flirting in front of me." He gritted out.
I gasped, "No, we weren't!"
He huffed, rolling his eyes, "Could've fooled me. It was totally see through. He isn't even hotter than me."
I snickered, "Whatever helps you sleep at night."
He narrowed his eyes at me. He opened his mouth to speak before the waiter came back again.
"Here's your order." He placed our drink in front of us.
I smiled shyly, "Thank you."
He nervously scratched the back of his head, "No problem. This place is always open, and I'm always here in the morning so you can be stopping by anytime you'd like."
I nodded, "Thanks again...."
"It's Jake." He outstretched his hands which I gladly took.
"Gracie." I said.
We stared at each other before someone coughed. We turned to John expectantly.
He glared at our hands before giving a tight smile to Jake, "That will be all."
Jake brought his hands back to his sides and I frowned from the coldness. He nodded before smiling at me and left.
I continued smiling goofily, taking a sip of my drink. I looked up at John to see him staring at me.
"What?"
"Nothing." He forced out.
I shrugged and continued on with my drink. I could feel his heated gaze on me and I groaned internally.
"You're being creepy, you know that?" I admitted.
"Oh, am I?" He asked sarcastically and kept on staring.
"Okay then. So why did you call me here?" I asked, trying to start up a conversation.
He looked at me before bringing out a document from a suitcase I just saw now.
"This is the document for you to sign to seal the deal. Just sign here." He pointed at an empty space below the words.
He brought out a pen and gave it to me. Taking it, I took a deep breath and signed my signature on the required space.
He took the document and put it back in the suitcase, "So, it's done. Finished. Completed. Signed, sealed and scene." He looked satisfied by something.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "What are you saying?"
He smiled brightly at me, What's with the sudden change of mood?
"Oh, nothing. I hope you know what you've signed?"
"That I'm your legal wife now?"
He nodded, "Yes, yes. That and you're mine and no one else. So no flirting or having any affair with other men or even talking with them seductively like that waiter guy over there."
"You're bluffing."
He smirked, "Oh, I'm not."
The nerve of this manipulative, inconsiderate, selfish coward!
