7~ We Are Now Husband And Wife.
I dare you to comment on each paragraph, dedicating the next chapter to the person..
N'DJAMENA, CHAD.
Suhayr immediately left the mosque to go call the two people she knew would not hesitate to come and help her if she gives them some money, not that they won't without the money. They are her customers and like buying their stuff from her shop because she always makes discount for them, that is all because her mother respects them for some unknown reason, she also does. If her mother loves an ant, Suhayr would definitely respect that ant for the rest of her life.
They liked her and always tells her that when she gets married, she should make sure they are there. Now they are needed and without any hesitation, she knew they are going to come in addition to their house not being far away from the mosque. This come in handy for her, she don't want to change her mind or let that man change his, this is what she needs at the moment.
Marry a rich, handsome, royal man. This is it!
"Good morning, Uncle Ubaid. Please I need your help right now." She bit her bottom lip knowing she's got the man's attention since she is never one to beg, that ain't her. This is just her being desperate to become Mrs. El-Kanemi and help make his first billion, not really help, and eat his first billion.
"Suha is it you? What is it you need my help with dear? Are you in any trouble?" There was concern in his voice which has Suhayr scrunching her brows. When did the man start having some concern towards her when she doesn't even greet him properly? Well, she doesn't have time now so the answer might come a little later.
"No, no. You don't need to worry about trouble. Uh, there is this man I love and you know I don't have any family or friends and my mother only trust you and Uncle Salman. I'm here in Masjid Munnar and I want to get married to this man. The Sheikh asked me to bring two waliys for him and me and you see, the man is not even Chadian. His family don't like me but I really love him, he wants us to get married here and now." She rambled half knowing what she is saying and half not even stopping to understand her own words.
She might have jumbled unrelated words there for she can't even remember exactly what she said. She hopes they are not two different stories from the ones she gave the Sheikh in there or she just pray they don't talk about it at all and her secret will be blew. That El-Kanemi man will be happy about it no doubt, he would want to escape her clutches but she is Suhayr, he won't be able to!
After a heartbeat, she calmed herself down to not let too much information run out of her mouth. She wants the wedding to be a secret for the time being, till everything is settled and her going to Nigeria is also a confirmation, everyone will know. She felt down hearted though, she will miss causing trouble and everyone will be excited about leaving the country.
"My dear, you don't have to worry about it. I will bring Salman with me in few minutes, just wait for us. May Allah bless you." She smiled, she don't even have to waste her credit calling another person since they are best friends, they might be together at the moment.
Well, it is in her perfect book now to not waste anymore money, she won't care when she is going to get married to a would be billionaire.
"But please, don't tell anyone about it. I don't want people finding out till it's done with." She requested before he hung up, he agreed then went off.
With a grin of triumph and victory, she made her way back to the mosque. It's like she has a trump card in her hand which she needs to position it in the right place then she will win. Just few more minutes before her dream finally come true, who would've believed she will wake up rich when she was cursing at them hours ago for waking her at an ungodly hour. Maybe the saying is true, if you want success, you will have to wake up early to make it an achieved goal.
She won't deny the fact that he agreed to marry her so easily and she wanted to find out the reason why he is willing to give away his freedom for her because of some block. He can get the place illegally like she's overheard from one of the government officials the day before but he didn't, why is that? She don't understand. Maybe he knew about her going to be an obstacle to his work and the work is extremely important to him.
Hmm, this should be it, thus can be the only reason.
When she entered the mosque, Mr. El-Kanemi and the Sheikh are talking lightly while smiling softly at each other. Seeing that small almost invisible smile on his lips makes her steps falter. Who would've thought the big bad alpha could smile to some older man just to show respect? She shrugged her shoulders and continue to trudge in to her soon to be husband. It sounds so foreign to her ears, she is really about to get married to a billionaire.
Wait, she doesn't even know his darn name!
She chuckled to herself at the thought of it, she's read it when Salima sent those information but she can't remember what it was since it wasn't important than the billionaire word that has her stopping from reading any other information. Maybe she should really find out his name before she gets married to someone she doesn't even know the name of. That would've been worst than getting married itself.
Sneakily, she removed her phone from her pocket and read through the message sent to her earlier by Salima. Sa'eed Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi. Woah, such long name but she only needs one of it which is Sa'eed. She will give him that his mother gave him a beautiful name which will rhyme with the way her huruf is always out to play because of her Arabic/French mother tongue. Oh well, she needs to get married first.
"They are on their way." As soon as she closed her mouth, she heard their voices by the door asking for entrance which was granted to them by the Sheikh.
"We have the waliys here, Sheikh." She whispered lowly trying to be all shy while giving stinky eyes to Sa'eed who rolled his eyes at her acting.
The two men came into the mosque dressed in white thobes like Angels ready to take their lives. They have their bald head nicely oiled allowing the waterfall chandelier in the mosque to shine on it. One of the men is kind of fat while the other is tall and thin, almost too thin to Suhayr's liking but those older women liked him just the way he is. The fat one is more handsome but one thing about Chadians is that they have this fetish for tall men.
The next twenty minutes passed in a blur with her only saying I do then she is married. Her heart thudded in her chest afraid whether this is a wrong decision or the right one. She don't like the responsibilities that comes with marriage and relationships. Maybe she should set out some rules for them not getting in between one another while she only try getting her money from him. Not hers but who cares, they are now married.
"You are husband and wife now and I hope your family accept you after this. May Allah bless his bounties on you and shower your married life with blessings. May this new journey of yours be filled with happiness and understanding. Don't forget, patience is the key to each and every successful marriage." The Sheikh complimented and advised after everything got commenced and they stood up to leave since it is done.
"Thank you, Sheikh. This means a lot to me and him, thank you." She thanked with a wide smile before they stood up to leave the mosque.
"We are now husband and wife." She laughed loud when they settle their feet outside the mosque so it won't be too disrespectful. She just can't wait to mock the emotionless man and shelve it to his face.
"And the weirdest thing about it is I don't even know your name neither do I know what time I got married or even the date." Sa'eed threw out watching as the two Uncles leave the mosque to come stand where they are.
"C'mon, Sa'eed Ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi, I know you name and mine won't be hard. My name is Suhayr Imraan Khalid and it is twelve in the afternoon on a beautiful Wednesday during winter in November." She grinned at him while he only stared when she called his name in complete, most of the people don't always remember his names.
"Thank you so much, Uncle Ubaid, Uncle Salman. This means a lot to us and we won't ever be able to repay you." Her eyes glisten all in form of acting just to make her sappy, cheesy, nostalgic story more believable.
Sa'eed could only see his miserable future in her laughter and smiles, like it is taunting him in the worst way possible. She is such mayhem, no doubt will be killed using only a Trident from ages ago.
"You don't have to thank us, my dear. This is an honour to us and you have been nothing short of a daughter. May this wedding bring so much joy and happiness into your lives." Uncle Salman commented, his face contorting into a gracious smile that has the women in the community peeking.
~
"Thank you so much." His new bride of five minutes said to their so called waliys, he doesn't know their names too.
He was serious when he told her he doesn't know her name because he didn't bother reading those first words but dive in to find out more. He didn't find it important but look where he is, now married to this same person he gave no importance to is now his wife. What sort of irony is this? Him, married the day he landed in Chad to his supposed enemy that has him flying to another country just to sell two buildings.
It might be a Wednesday, not the best day to get married but he didn't know it was since he wasn't ready for marriage neither has he thought of getting married in a foreign country to achieve his goals. He has a fiancée back at home maybe, the bomb that is about to blow in his homeland is huge that he doesn't even want to think about it.
His wife is a great actor so this might come in handy when they arrive back in Borno state. But if the mischiefs about her is true then he could say rest in peace to his peace of mind and welcome trouble with open arms. It's not like he likes her, he hates her for making him marry her and cause problems to him which is why he vows to make her pay little by little. She will feel like getting married to him because of a dare while looking deep into his weakness is not something she should look forward to.
"We shall take our leave." And they disappeared down the corner after some more blessings to Suhayr.
"This is stupid." He shook his head making his way to the car while the sun glare down at them as if to tell them that them getting married is a bad omen. The deed has been done, it is over and done with.
"It's not like I will tie you down to myself and not let you do your work. Look at the brighter side of it, you will build your school anytime you want from now and I won't be an obstacle nor hindrance in your way." She grinned innocently, settling herself in the car with new found determination to make her future brighter.
"It feels like it because I have a feeling that I'm going to regret this very soon, no, I'm already regretting it." His answer was curt again so she rolled her eyes and relax back in the expensive car to let her mind rest.
He kept wallowing while thinking pros and cons of the marriage which should've happened before he agreed to get married to her. The cons are now too much for him to keep counting so he let that go and think about the pros. They are way too less for him to dwell on and keep his mind off things that he should look into. His life is about to be chaotic, shambolic you call it but it's true. He is never one into drama but he can't say much about his wife, she is the definition of drama.
His phone rang from the cupholder in the car, it annoyed him. The mere sound of his wife breathing next to him nag, irk and irritate him and now another problem from his phone. There is no doubt he is not about to hear good news anytime soon to top it off, it's Mu'adh that's calling him. The guy will be on his neck the whole day, he hates everyone at that moment. He feels like everyone there is an enemy to him but he can't kill none.
"What is it?" He barked into the phone, already imagining Mu'adh face as meal, the man is irritating.
"Chill, buddy. I hope I haven't interrupted some important bonding?" His question was pure mockery and if not for the undertone of some news in Mu'adh's voice, he would've hung up the phone.
"Get straight to the point." Was all he said and no doubt Mu'adh has heard that, the promise of getting killed.
"There is no hotel room in all the hotels here. I've searched and crooked your name all around but there is nothing we can do. I think you should build some high class hotel here, it's going to be profitable for tourists." Mu'adh rambled but had to get off the point like always.
He is right though, Sa'eed has been thinking about building a hotel alongside the school and maybe a restaurant too. The place is deserted of those lavish stuff which makes it hard to tourists to visit the country. Chad is also known for it's penury and poverty, most people stay clear from the place. So maybe if he builds a hotel, people might want to come and visit more often because they will feel at ease with place to stay rather than squatting with some family members.
"Now what?" He sighed, taking his hand off the steering wheel to rub at his forehead to take back the growing migraine away. They are in the traffic thankfully.
"The only place I've got right now is an hour thirty minutes away from where we are. And it is also a motel that has bad reputation of thugs hanging around and rapers. I don't want to be raped!" Mu'adh being his dramatic self had to add the last part to annoy Sa'eed, he was annoyed alright.
One more stupidity, he will blow off and he won't promise not to kill someone in that state, he is thoroughly annoyed.
"Plan something, that is what you are here for." He roared again to get him back on track, it worked.
"You sound hot yelling like that, too bad, I don't do assholes." Suhayr commented from beside him with a dream sigh, her left palm resting on her face to add more effect to her words.
Sa'eed glared at her but immensely grateful that Mu'adh didn't hear a thing, he wouldn't have let this slide. He is on the brink of going cuckoo, and Mu'adh next words just did the work for him. He wants him to bow down to this thing?
"Why not ask Ms. Khalid to help us with one of her bedrooms? I heard she has two bedrooms in her apartment. She won't mind us squatting there for the night huh?" His tone was serious, Sa'eed knew he was done for!
