14~ Nigeria, Here We Come.
I dare you to comment on each paragraph, following each one that does...
N'DJAMENA, CHAD.
Urshia stared at her supposed best friend's son in-law with keen eyes trying to gauge out something from him or how she could strike a conversation from the safe side. She is known for reading people by their expressions and mind you, she is not a psychologist neither has she ever thought of pursuing something with her talent. Multitudes ask her to work for them maybe in the court or police station as a detective but she turned it down downright, without hesitation.
Her talent is given to her by Allah and she feels like working in those places will not give her much and will help tarnish her reputation which is the least she wants to happen. If you are unmarried and decide to do everything on your own feeling like the freedom should be enjoyed, people tend to point their fingers at you so she only has one friend who is now dead. The only person that helps her during her tough times, she is a gem just like her daughter.
Suhayr acts like she doesn't care what people think about her or that she doesn't care at all but she does sometimes when it is related to the only family she has left. She could easily leave the country if she doesn't care about them and let them tend to themselves but she didn't, she proposed something Urshia herself won't confess to doing. The girl proposed that without a tinge of regret in her voice or eyes, she was wholeheartedly wishing they would come with her.
She doesn't have much choices apart from following her best friend's daughter to the foreign country. And the fact that she promised her best friend to take care of her daughter even after her demise, she is willing to go to any extent for the girl like she is her daughter. Suhayr is easily likeable if you get to know her but can get easily irritated with her many pranks and will to take revenge over petty stuff.
We should not let time slip through our fingers without having spent some time with those who really matter to us, those close to our hearts. If we die tomorrow, the company that we are working for could easily replace us in a matter of days. But the family & friends we leave behind will feel the loss for the rest of their lives. And come to think of it, we pour ourselves more into work than to our family.
She's being hotheaded since she was young, her best friend really tried to calm her temper but she couldn't do much. When Suhayr sets her eyes on something, she won't let it go until she makes sure it's burnt to ashes. Urshia can't say she knows why Suhayr is doing what she is doing. One thing she knows is, she is doing it for a good course that will help everyone around her even them included. She has roof atop their heads when they thought they are about to lose everything. What more could she ask for?
Getting married is a huge step which she is not yet ready to accept, she made a mistake and she should know that. Nowadays they think marriage is just something people do for the fun of it but don't understand the consequences of everything that will get to them when the other one blows. They have so much to know about each other though she knows there is no love there, but still. She is not going to agree with her so easily, she won't give in.
She can't place all the blame on Suhayr, even the so called Sa'eed is at fault in some way. Suhayr can easily pursue someone without stressing herself out nor breaking as much as a sweat, she is very good at pursuing. Maybe it's because of the determination that creases the edges of her eyes makes you succumb since she clearly won't give up even if you are going to take so many years talking about the same thing.
That girl can be an iron bender along with the scorching flame she's named.
"So, why did you agree to Suhayr's craziness?" She smiled gently at him hoping to get him to stop brooding like a wounded animal. His eyes are still guarded up, he has been taught well.
"Was forced to do that actually. I need this whole block and she wasn't ready to give up so easily." He shook his head without the scowl but he wasn't smiling neither did he look friendly or approachable.
"I know she does that a lot. But you look like a determined and powerful man, why couldn't you stop her? I mean, you don't look like you could easily be bended by a woman?" She rose a brow when he chuckled a little liking the compliment she sent him in a twisted way.
"She knows how important it is for me and not to forget what I found on internet. It is said she is a prankster and when I start my work, I don't want her playing pranks on my work. In a sprained way, I feel like this is the only way to stop her from poking her nose when I start building the school." He explained looking at the loving smile she has playing on her lips.
From the looks of it, she loves Suhayr like she would her daughters. She talks fondly about her pranking and the smile looks motherly neither did she look offended when Suhayr warned her about saying anything embarrassing. She chuckled when she heard the warning, didn't give any meaning to it while Sa'eed feels like she is disrespecting the so called aunt.
They must have a strong relationship to joke like that.
"Oh Susu is really a prankster and won't hesitate to ruin your whole work when it's at it's peak. But I don't agree with the marriage arrangement, that is a gigantic step." She disagreed with a shake of her head.
"I didn't want to go through with it but I need to finish the school in six months or less." He explained watching Mu'adh from his peripheral vision as he sat down.
"I am happy he is married, Ma'am. This man here is a hard nut, only Suhayr can help him. They are both going to set the place on fire but that is the fun of it." Mu'adh's voice has this edge of excitement only ruining Sa'eed's mood some more.
"We have the same feeling about this. He looks hotheaded and so is Susu, I can't wait for the drama to unfold." Sa'eed stared at the woman he thought is matured enough to talk Suhayr out of the marriage but he was clearly wrong.
"Even you?" His brows are raised on their own accord not to hide his surprise and shock.
"It's going to be fun watching Suhayr with someone that match her same fire. We shall see who is going to get quenched first, I shall bet." She grinned innocently at him making him smile a little.
She looks childish with that smile but he knew she is way older than him but not much. Maybe just five years or less but she looks young with her fair skin and dark facial hairs. Her eyes have this tingle of mischief making her look younger than her age. He would've asked for the age but might come off as rude so he kept quite and let the conversation flow. Most people don't like people asking about their ages, they find it offensive.
"I'm thirty seven years old last month, I'm still young please." She rolled her eyes at something Mu'adh said drawing Sa'eed's attention to their conversation.
She is older than him with only seven years and he thought it was five, wow. The women in Chad hardly age after clocking thirty which isn't surprising because they like looking beautiful. Suhayr also looks way younger than her age of nineteen, he first thought she just started highschool when he saw her standing in front of him like a midget. Someone who just clocked sixteen, highest is seventeen but heard she is nineteen. That girl that talks like she's been in the world for more than a decade.
The fire inside her makes her eyes look matured but not her facial or physical appearance. She looks young but also beautiful kind of young. Some around her age are still fighting baby fat but she has every curve where it should be though not extra. Her chest is not too voluptuous but not flat also and her butt is just like her body. Not too small but not thick as he is used to seeing all the time back at home. He is no pervert, just a male.
She is different from all others. Small with matching body curves.
"You really are young facially but after hearing your age, I'm not going to ask you out anymore." Mu'adh retorted earning a look of feigned hurt from Urshia and they continue to banter.
Maybe all Suhayr's family are crazy like her.
"Susu, do you know something?" Thuraiya said in a way that will have you anxiously waiting for her news, the suspense that kills.
"I don't and don't drag this or I have your head." Suhayr grumbled huffing underneath her breath as she stared under her bed for the box she has hidden under it. It has books from her highschool, the ones she hasn't read since a year ago after graduating. She might as well pack them because there is a high chance of her getting bored there.
"Your husband is way too hot. Like really, I am just so astounded to even utter a sound wallah. I thought I was going to collapse when I saw his equally handsome partner. I wonder how you manage to sleep in the same house as them." Thuraiya sighed at the end of her words to get her message across.
"I wonder too! Wait, did you share the room with that hulk?" Tasneem asked with so much interest in her words whilst she wiggled with her brows suggestively.
"W-what?" Suhayr chocked on her own saliva abruptly sitting upright while pretending to check something in the box.
"I was just asking, don't die without enjoying your marital home." Tasneem shrugged innocently watching as Suhayr narrowed her eyes in a threatening way. In that, drop it before I throttle you.
"Then don't talk about me and him like that. You know nothing of that sort is going to happen, take it off your head." She rolled her eyes and haul the box onto her bed making sure there is no hint of dust on it anymore.
"It's just sexual intercourse, Susu. It's not like you care about it or even the marriage. I mean, you are married, receive pleasure!" Tasneem grinned mischievously while Thuraiya tried to push back her notice me cough.
"Stop talking like you are the older one here. I am two days older than you, shut it down." Suhayr desperately tried to change the topic from her almost nonexistent marriage.
It's not like she is really not mature enough to talk about it like that or something but she don't want to talk about something mature while there are men just few feet away from them. You don't know when they get uncomfortable with the subject especially having them as non-mahrams. Not to forget that her aunt and their mother is also just outside the room and could hear them if they are been vigilant or are eavesdropping.
Thuraiya is also not someone you should talk about those with even at the age of seventeen. Suhayr is not into abominating small children's mind, they should learn that from their teachers and keep it to themselves. She is afraid the girl will turn into a pervert and start talking like her sister who has no filter. If Tasneem starts talking about marriage, you might think she was once married or maybe in her previous life she has been married a lot.
She just hopes she won't open her mouth when they are all together, she won't like that happening at all. It maybe thought that she is shameless because she is fire but that is not where her strategy is. She is known for her pranks and being a daredevil nothing as a pervert or anything close to it so she also gets uncomfortable when the conversation comes up when it shouldn't. She has that tiny bit of shyness but can also be audacious.
"Don't change the topic now, ma'am. I would tap that friend of his if I were in your place first. But seriously, you are so lucky! The guy is the definition of rich hulk motherfucker." Tasneem kept exaggerating, not even helping with the whole packing. She is sitting comfortably on Suhayr's favorite mustard beanbag.
"Thank you but no thanks. I didn't marry him for his face but his money so drop the words and work." Suhayr breathed after settling the last piece of clothing in a suitcase.
"Oh please. I know it is one of the reasons why you married him. You can't, won't ever think of marrying someone ugly and I know that much. Drop the formalities of miss innocent, it does not suit you." Tasneem is not giving up so Suhayr kept quite to let her know she is defeated.
"Has he told you anything about his traditions though?" Thuraiya asked taking one of the boxes to the door since they are done packing.
"Except that it will start today being Thursday but I didn't ask for much information. I might like the thrill of having a surprise, ya know. From today till Saturday, we are going to be very busy. I hope you have formal wear with you, guys." She explained in one breath then took two suitcases out of the room.
"Oh we have them. Three days of wedding events? Wow, they surely know how to get me in a hyperactive mood." Thuraiya shrieked in enthusiasm.
"This is just a wedding I don't know why they need three days to conclude all it's process." Suhayr mumbled her voice showing her distaste and absurdness of the thought.
"That is what makes them different. I like attending foreign events and especially royal, I can't wait." Tasneem smiled genuinely taking a box with her out of the room.
"Are you done yet?" Mu'adh ask standing up from the couch where he is sitting to help them with the boxes and suitcases.
"Yup, done and dusted." Suhayr sighed feeling her muscles constricting.
"Well then, we should be on our way." He made his way to the door filing in the truck they borrowed hours ago so they can pack their whole stuff without much problem.
"Nigeria, here we come." Suhayr smirked knowing she is going to be challenged there but has she ever said no to a challenge or dare? No, never!
Well, she has her belt tightened.
