Chapter 22 : A Smell of Sulfur

An angel in a skirt and a demoness dressed as a video game character to escort her. Now that was defense in hell! Although the former is under a mirage spell, to hide her white wings from the hellish population.

Look for Cerberus, look for Cerberus! Lilith shouted as she flew by the gigantic three-headed dog.

Perched on her back, clutching her collar, Lisa stared at their destination. The third and penultimate active volcano, which gave off the smell of rotten eggs. The two previous ones were empty of any living presence. And if she hoped with all her heart that this one would be the right one, she couldn't help but feel an awful apprehension.

Was Satan alive? Was he in good health? No, for the last point, she doubted it.

With her stomach in knots, she saw the volcano approaching at full speed. They had almost reached the foot of the volcano when Lilith stopped them all with a wave of her arm. Cerberus stopped dead in his tracks.

-He's here, she declared, her wing movement bouncing her generous breasts, though well strapped into a sports bra.

Good. Now they had to find a building that stank of rotten eggs. Knowing that the suffocating smell was all around them, this would be no easy task. Cerberus sniffed the ground, but he couldn't find a lead. They must have moved directly into Lucifer's lair. Lilith couldn't find him either, even with the magical aura of her two brothers.

Supposedly by the way, what a shitty situation for her...

-Lisa! I forgot! the demon suddenly exclaimed. My brother protected your soul by placing it next to his!

I beg your pardon? Was that possible?

On the other hand, where would one normally stash a soul?

-It's in him, so you must be able to trace it, she insisted. Focus, Lisa.

She could almost hear the "search Lisa, search! Confused, she looked around. How does one track a soul? Her own, for that matter? She had no powers! And unlike the Wonder Woman movie, the power of love wouldn't help her now!

Lilith suddenly put a hand over her eyes, plunging her into total darkness. But what... Luscious lips touched hers. Stunned, she didn't flinch, so a wave of magic swept over her from head to toe.

-But... But! she stammered when the demoness moved away, giving her sight back in passing.

A big roguish smile lighting up her face, Lilith tapped the corner of her eye with her index finger.

-I have breathed into you a hint of my power. You should be able to locate your soul and thus Satan. Close your eyes.

She did so. Suddenly, she felt as if she saw a lighthouse right in front of her. Holy cow!

-Straight ahead, Cerberus!

They had to go around the whole volcano, to reach an entrance hidden under a huge rock, cleared effortlessly by an angry Miriam. Apparently, sulfur had a bad influence on her character.

-Only the rats are hiding underground!

-And the dwarves, Lilith added. You have them at home, don't you?

-Yeah, they're natives of our dimension. Just like those stupid elves. Lisa, you stay here.

-Go and cook an egg. Cerberus, guard the entrance.

It was her husband who was struggling with her psychopathic brother, all to protect her! So no one would tell her what to do! For the devil's sake!

At least that, she said to herself, it looked a little less like a shojo manga. Satan would not imagine his little human wife able to throw herself into the lion's den to come and save his beautiful buttocks.

Meanwhile, the volcano's guts were unbearably hot, and the smell was vile. The narrow tunnel began to descend. Lilith passed in front of it, giving her a breast stroke as she went. They walked for a good ten minutes in a heavy silence.

Then suddenly, echoes were heard. A laugh? They hurried on again. At a fork in the road, Lisa closed her eyes, searching for her soul. They continued in this direction. The noises became more precise.

-I should have been King! roared Lucifer, so loudly that his words echoed in the gallery where they were standing. You have taken everything from me, Satan!

-You killed our father! You killed our mother! And if I hadn't arrived in time to protect her, you would have killed Lilith too! All for the throne!

-A throne you inherited!

-You don't deserve it! the Demon King thundered. You're just a monster hungry for blood and carnage!

-I am a demon! I was born for this!

They arrived above a large void. It was as if the tunnel they were in opened up into a big cave. Or a disused quarry. Two figures were at the bottom of the hole. One seemed to be... Hanging, tied by the feet? Damn!

This low-life rat had just punched her husband in the stomach!

Who began to giggle, although he seemed to spit blood.

-A demon isn't necessarily evil, dickhead. And if you weren't stupid, you would have killed me already! What are you gonna do if I escape, huh!?

But he was stupid! Her husband was stupid! How could anyone provoke his torturer like that!?

-You think you're better than me, don't you! roared Lucifer, before giving him another punch in the stomach.

-I've already beaten you to a pulp! You're still alive only because I spared you that night! Only because Lilith was there! If she hadn't been watching, I would have hanged you with your guts!

A roar of rage, a sound of flesh being beaten. Satan had become a punching bag. With tears in her eyes, Lisa looked at the Lilith. Jaws clenched, she whispered:

-I was five years old when he killed my mother. I saw it. But I didn't know that he had killed our father too.

Satan had hidden this from her!? How could it be possible!? All this time!? How many years has it been, by the way?

-We have to intervene, Lisa gasped. How?

-Like this.

Without missing a beat, Miriam pushed her. Literally. She pushed her into the void.

Lisa's scream echoed throughout the quarry, inevitably drawing the attention of the two demons below. Satan shouted her name when he recognized her. Lucifer smiled with all his teeth. Spreading his wings, he rushed towards her to catch her... She saw Lilith appear right next to her husband, to tear off his chains with an unconcealed rage. Hearing the noise, their brother lowered his eyes, forgetting to catch her. Letting her pass by him like a stone.

She could already see herself shattered on the ground when Miriam grabbed her by the ankle, stopping her fall.

-You're crazy! exclaimed Lisa.

-Nope, efficient!

-Lucifer!

Satan's manly, yet raging roar drew her attention back down. Suspended in the air, she discovered her husband standing with a sword in his hand. A gaping hole with burnt edges adorned his torso. By all the...

-You are dead!

Anxious to get out of the way, Miriam dashed off. Too late. Lucifer was already grabbing Lisa to make a bulwark, pulling her away from his protection. No, no, no!

-No! exclaimed the angel. Lisa!

Damn, what could she do!? What the...

-Let her go! said Satan.

-You're my ticket out, Lucifer whispered in the human's ear, as he flapped his wings madly to get out of there.

All demons had balls, Satan had proved it to her. And she had at least one knee.

The technique of kicking the balls was formidable. She provoked a hiccup of pain in her aggressor, who let go of her to seize her badly handled attributes.

It was again for the fall! Lisa began her scream again, cut off by a landing between a pair of large breasts. Lilith closed her arms around her, before shooting straight for Miriam. The angel defended herself as roars of rage sounded behind them.

-Don't look, whispered the demoness as she landed in the entrance of a gallery.

-Neither are you, Lisa retorted, clinging to her. They are your brothers.

The wide eyes of Lilith confirmed the horror of the situation. Taking her in her arms, the high-school girl blocked her face against her shoulder. Instinctively, the demoness tightened against it, slightly shaking.

In the air, the two brothers were bleeding. Drunk with rage, Satan was harassing his opponent with a dexterity, a speed increased tenfold by anger. The anger of having almost lost his wife. The anger of having almost lost the soul he was protecting. The anger of having to execute Lucifer in front of his sister and his wife. That of having to kill him.

Feinting with a ball of power, he gave a violent push on his wings, pivoting to avoid the poisoned blade of his elder... And he planted his sword up to the guard in his chest. Wide-eyed, Lucifer stared at him, stunned, his wings freezing in the air.

-For our parents.

The flames burst forth, spreading over the demon's body. Literally immolating him, so fast, so violently that a single scream passed his lips, before a rain of ashes fell to the bottom of the quarry.

It was... over...

Looking up, he met the eyes of his wife, who was holding her sister in her arms. Without a word, she nodded.

They were finally safe.
