Chapter 18 : Rififi at the Gate
That afternoon there were no classes, so Lisa visited the rubble of her house.
Everything was a pile of tiles, clumps and wood. Distraught, she looked at what had once been her home. There was nothing left of her past life. It was sad. After her mother and grandparents, it was her house's turn. All the memories of her family were there.
This detail alone brought tears to her eyes.
The pictures of her mother... Of grandpa... Of granny... Of course, on some of them there was also his father. But she wasn't interested in that. With a sniff, she took one of the anonymous stones in her hand.
-How come the police aren't looking for me? she asked as Satan embraced her from behind in a tender embrace.
-Lilith has hidden everything from the eyes of the humans. To them, your house is still standing.
-Oh.
With a blank mind, she considered it all. How long would it take to clear it all away? Was there any hope of finding a picture of her mother? And her classes, by the way? She had to pass her high school diploma soon.
Suddenly, she frowned.
-Did you say that humans can't see this?
-Yes, indeed.
Satan seemed intrigued.
-Why?
She scratched her cheek, thoughtful.
-Miriam asked me if I was okay, because she thought she saw my house collapsed.
They both thought. At least, Lisa did. For Satan was watching the surroundings, looking worried.
-We should go back. I feel like we are being watched.
Once in the human home of the royal demon, they relaxed a bit. It was Wednesday afternoon, they had time to spare. Physically and emotionally tired, Lisa took refuge under the shower.
It was Italian style, with a large bay window closing one side. Taking advantage of a rare moment of solitude, she stayed under the burning jet. And to think that a week and a half earlier, she was still alone. Like what, one got used quickly to a new environment. To a new life.
In any case, she was not bored! By the way, what about work? Wasn't she supposed to go to the bookstore today? She would have been unable to say. Well, she would get a message... At worst, it had to be next Saturday. Or Sunday.
Raising her eyes, she discovered Satan. A towel around the waist, in red and horns, he was observing her with a small smile, leaning with one shoulder on the glass of the shower. Peony, she covered herself by reflex intimate parts and chest.
-Can I join you?
-Uh...
He took that for a yes. Abandoning his towel on the floor, he discovered a straight and proud erection, proof of the desire that he felt by seeing her thus. Not knowing what to do, she was relieved when he joined her under the burning jet of the shower.
-Why hide? he murmured, running a hand lightly over the back of her neck. I've already seen everything. I've touched everything. And if you want... It could happen again.
When she didn't answer, in confusion, he gently took her chin between his thumb and forefinger, to encourage her to look at him. Her beautiful red eyes were half-closed, yet fiery. He was so close... So close...
-Do you want me, Lisa?
-Yes, she murmured without lying.
-Do you feel like having sex again? Does your body allow it?
In this moment? Even though she was aching, she felt nothing but an imperious desire. The one to have his hands on her body, his mouth on hers. His sex inside her.
-Oh yes...
*
Florian, at first sight, did not remember his altercation with her. Nevertheless, she could not stand him anymore. What an idiot! Wasn't there any gumption in his self-important little male mind?
However... He seemed drastically different. What had Satan implanted in his memories? She would have liked to know, because this Thursday, he was not very talkative with the three girls.
Miriam, on the other hand, was in great form. She did not stop babbling, asking her a thousand and one questions. Finally, at lunch, she confessed that she had met someone.
-Is it true? Lisa wondered, before feeling a hint of concern rise up in her.
With everything that had been going on in the last few days, she was suddenly afraid that the lucky one was Lucifer.
-What's his name? she asked in a slightly strained voice.
-He...
-Mademoiselle Peronne? called Madame Quech, from the other side of the courtyard. Can you come?
That was surprising. Miriam and Lisa looked at each other, before joining their teacher. With a contrite smile, the latter waited until Lisa was as close to her as possible, despite the glances of the few students who remained between noon and two, to tell her:
-Look, I know your situation.
It was a bad start. Especially with the indecisiveness of her teacher. This was not like her, and it worried Lisa to no end.
-I know you are emancipated, so I would not force you to come into contact with him.
But what was she talking about?
-Nevertheless, your father is here, and he says he needs to talk to you urgently.
-My father!? she exclaimed, with an anger that immediately flamed in her. Where is he!?
-Um... In front of the school gate. We didn't let him in.
-Perfect! Don't worry, I'll handle the case!
Furious, Lisa didn't even check to see if anyone was following her. In truth, only Miriam followed her to the gate. Coming out like a cannonball, Lisa saw her father's thin, frail figure. He had lost weight again, if that was possible. Hair, no, since he had been bald for quite some time.
-Li...
-You bastard! she roared as she charged straight at him. You dared to sell me to a psychopath!
Grabbing him by the flaps of his faded shirt, she stuck a knee blow in his parts, sending him directly to the ground. Behind her, Miriam emitted a surprised yelp, while Jacques Peronne slipped on the ground with a groan of pain.
-And on top of that you dare to show up here!? What did you want to see? If I was already dead!?
-No... I...
-Do you realize what you have done!?
Fortunately, no one was around to witness the altercation. Because Lisa's words took a crazy turn for the common man.
-You sold me to one of the worst demons in the alternate dimension! You sold me to a guy who killed his own mother to get the crown!
-I... Lucifer is coming for you... her father gasped, with a desperate look in her direction. I wanted to... warn you.
She would have slapped him. No, actually, she would have wanted to give him a huge punch.
-It's been over a week since you sold me. It took you all this time to come and see me? It's a good thing I met Satan, because you're not the one who would put your life in danger to save your daughter!
Her father's face became a little paler. His blue eyes stood out even more against his lividity.
-You... Satan?
Just for fun, she holds up her hand with a skull ring under her nose.
-I'm married to the demon king. He sacrificed his freedom to protect me from his brother, if you must know. Because you see, even Satan is a better person than you, who sold your daughter to a monster. So thanks, Dad, but I'm doing just fine without you.
She straightened up, with a contemptuous look for the one who had once been a father.
-Farewell. Don't you dare contact me again. And even less to sell me to strangers.
Turning away, she was about to walk back into the school when her father's hand grabbed her ankle.
-You... don't understand! he said, rolling his eyes in terror. He's going to torture me again!
-I...
Suddenly, she saw a shape appear before her. The tall, menacing figure of Lucifer, in his hideous black-veined demonic form. His smug smile made her take a step back. Too late. He grabbed her wrist with an ominous sneer.
-What's not to like about getting you out of this building!
The building... The building! Horrified, she glanced back at the gate. Satan had told her, though. She had to stay in the school... To benefit from the protections he had surrounded it with! But once she went through the portal, she was naked. It was not for nothing that she was accompanied and brought back here every day! What an idiot!
-You're such an asshole, she said, glaring at her father, still kneeling on the floor.
He did not dare to meet his eyes. On the other hand, she had to do it with Lucifer.
-Satan still hasn't given me my soul back, if you're interested.
-I don't need your soul, the demon purred as it spread its fearsome black wings. I'll just make you suffer to destroy it.
And shit...
He pretended to teleport... When he let go of her wrist with a snap, a second before a silver sword flashed through the air where her hand had been the moment before. What the hell... Miriam! It was Miriam holding the sword!
-You're very cheeky to ignore my presence, demon, she said, stepping in between Lisa and him.
The sword wasn't the biggest problem, actually. For two pristine white wings now adorned her back, while her blond hair appeared to be made of spun gold. What...
-Why would an angel wish to save the life of a woman tainted by the demon king? growled Lucifer, his rage stirring the air with power.
-All I see is some crazy guy trying to pick on a girl, Miriam snapped, twirling her heavy sword in her hand to get into a fighting stance.
Without further ado, she charged straight at him. Her gleaming sword cut through the air, so fast that Lisa could hardly see it, until it hit Lucifer's inky black one. He burst into demonic laughter as he took flight with his great dark wings.
-Come on, little angel! Let's have some fun!
The fight took an aerial turn, without losing its speed. Frozen on the spot, Lisa thought that her life was starting to look a little too much like a heroic-fantasy novel, with the arrival of an angel in her life. Nevertheless, this parallel made her say that she had to get off her butt.
Backing up to the gate, she suddenly saw her father, prostrate on the ground. Not far away, a blast of magic literally exploded the sidewalk. He didn't deserve it. And yet...
Mom wouldn't have wanted me to let him die, she thought suddenly.
Blast!
Dropping the shelter of the gate, she rushed to her father. In shock, he could no longer stand up. Above them, the sound of lightning could be heard. It was not the moment to remain there! Taking him by the arm, she pulled him, trying to force him to move. That's when Miriam crashed two steps away. The concrete crumpled like a sheet of paper in a fist, while the angel let out a sound of dull pain.
Looking up, Lisa saw Lucifer coming straight at her. No! Letting go of her father, she rushed in front of her only friend, to protect her. Lucifer's smile widened, he raised his sword higher, his wings spread behind his back... When another winged figure slammed into him from the side, with such force that he slammed into the building in front of the school, blowing the facade off. Her husband had arrived!
Folding his wings behind his back, he charged into the hole in the wall to finish off his brother. But he came up empty-handed, his fists clenched. The wretch had taken to the streets knowing the demon king was there.
-All is well, my little wife? made this last one while coming to pose right in front of her, in its magnificent demonic form.
Dressed in tight leather pants and a simple black t-shirt, he was to die for. Oh boy, her hormones were dancing on the spot when she saw him, now! Confused, Lisa readjusted her top, before saying:
-Yes, everything is fine. I mean... Yes.
Apart from the surprises of the morning, everything was going well indeed!
After kissing her tenderly, Satan looked at the angel lying in the sidewalk. Yes, in, not on. She had sunk deep into the pavement.
-Hello, Satan, said Miriam, raising her hand in a vague greeting.
-It took you a long time to reveal your true nature, said the demon, kneeling before her.
-Did you know about this? said Lisa, checking to see that her father had not yet moved.
He had lost consciousness under the blow of the emotion. A shapeless heap of fatty tissues, that's what Jacques Peronne was, at that moment.
-Yes, even if your friend is rather good at hiding her angelic aura, admitted Satan.
-Pff... And you smell like a demon from two miles away, Miriam retorted without moving.
-Can you tell me why you defended my wife? A direct confrontation with Lucifer was not in your interest, you know that as well as I do.
The two Biblical entities glared at each other, as Lisa tried to figure out how an angel could have been her friend in high school. Really weird.
-Okay, look, she said after a moment of silence. It's surprising enough that no one noticed the confrontation, so we could take everyone home to ask questions, right?
-We are in an alternative bubble, her husband replied. No human could see what was going on inside. But you're right. Let's go home. Rwine will clean up your father, meanwhile. A week in my brother's hands has left him in a sorry state.
Yes, it did. Lisa hadn't thought of it that way, but her sire had been facing Lucifer all this time... Suddenly she felt sorry for him. Who knows what the demon had done to him.
