Promotion Party
~Rapunzel and Eugene~
"Did you really invite all of the couples to this?" Eugene asked. They were going to his promotion party. Rapunzel and him had been making comics for every newspaper edition and now they were being recognized for it. His boss was going to promote him for actually making funny comics, unlike the last few editors who tried.
"Yes, this is a huge achievement." Rapunzel smiled. She was so happy for Eugene. He was finally getting recognized for something he's been doing for a month. She happily scrolled through her FaceBook updates, reading all of her relatives' recent accomplishments.
"Well, it wouldn't have been possible without you though." Eugene smiled. Eugene might be coming up with all the ideas, but he couldn't draw to save his life. Rapunzel drew every single comic for him. He was thankful she had a natural talent.
"It's fun. This is my chance to actually be noticed for my drawings." Rapunzel giggled. Rapunzel was always great at drawing. She was the best in her high school, making teachers encourage her to study to be a professional. She had always wanted to, but it was too far away for her comfort.
"Okay, but there's one person I want to warn you about." Eugene replied, scrunching his nose. He didn't really like talking about him, but he wanted her to be prepared to meet him.
"Who?" Rapunzel questioned, looking up from her phone. She didn't need want to mess this up for Eugene. After all, this was all about him. She wanted to come off as professional for him.
"Pitch Black." He answered, waiting at the stop light. No cars were nearby, making them wait for nothing. He softly tapped the steering wheel, waiting to hear her response.
"Pitch? What kind of name is that?" Rapunzel chuckled. Who in their right mind would name their child Pitch? Did they want their child to come off as demonic?
"It's not his real name, it's just his nickname." Eugene explained, softly laughing. Okay, he had to admit, being told someone's name was Pitch is sort of startling at first. But Pitch wasn't someone to mess with.
"What's his real name?" She asked, tilting her head. The light turned green and they slowly pulled forward. He was driving slower than usual, but Rap didn't think much of it. She figured it was just his nerves.
"I honestly have no idea. He's been here since I started. He even introduced himself to me as Pitch Black." Eugene answered. Pitch was freaky. He never goes to office parties or takes a break. He's always there, even if his sick or something.
"Why do I need to worry about him?" Rapunzel questioned. Pitch was a strange name, but so far, he didn't seem like a threat to them.
"He's spooky. He's like the modern day Edgar Allan Poe. Everything he writes is creepy." Eugene explained, sprinkling his fingers like he was speaking about something taboo. He looked like he was going to cast a magic spell over her.
"I think you're over exaggerating." Rapunzel smiled, sending him a playful glare. Eugene was always known to over exaggerate. He would say anything to freak her out and make her sacred.
"He has fake spiders on his desk, he always talks to himself, all he wears is black, and he works in the darkest part of the office." Eugene widened his eyes. Eugene was freaked out from Pitch. He was like something straight out of a horror movie. If he was ever alone with him, Eugene would honestly have a heart attack.
"Maybe it just seems that way." She offered.
"Rapunzel, I've worked with this guy for five years. Every year he gets creepier. He would make millions in a horror movie." Eugene shuttered. He hated even the thought about watching a movie with him as the star. Eugene would probably wet his pants if he had to watch that, I mean, not that he's afraid or anything.
"You're just a baby." Rapunzel smiled as Eugene parked their car. Eugene rolled his eyes and got out of the car. He knew she was just talking out of the sweetness of her heart, but would she be in for a surprise.
"Don't say I didn't warn you." Eugene stated as he opened Rapunzel's door. She rolled her eyes and took his hand. She hopped out of the car, placing her heels on the crumbling parking lot.
"Okay." Rapunzel smiled as he shut her door. She slipped her hand into his as they walked towards the doors. She looked up at one of the oldest buildings in Corona. It was a little run down. It could use a little repairs here and there, but over all it seemed nice. They walked in and they were greeted to a secretary.
"Hello Eugene! Congratulations on your promotion." The secretary greeted as she ended her call. She had gray hairs sticking out of her dark hair. Her soft brown eyes were cheerful.
"Thanks Susan." He smiled. Susan was the only person he could stand in this building. She was always nice to him, acting like he didn't have a bad past, even though she knew all about it. After all, she wrote all of the criminal records in the paper.
"Who this?" She smiled as she pointed at Rapunzel. Rapunzel gave her a soft smile and a little wave. She was beginning to feel a little shy. She didn't know if she could act this perfect for the rest of the day.
"This is my wife, Rapunzel. She's responsible for my drawings." Eugene introduced. He was proud to call her his wife. She was decent and sweet. She gave him a good look, not that he wasn't good looking already. You know, superhuman good looks.
"It's so nice to meet you dear. You know, he used to be late to work almost everyday until you came along. Now he's always on time." Susan informed. She loved bragging about how much he's changed in the last couple of months. He always walked in with a smile on his face.
"Really?" She smirked as she looked at Eugene. A light blush began to play on his cheeks. He wanted to get out of there before she said anything else embarrassing about him.
"Well, we should get going. See ya, Susan!" He smiled as he quickly led Rap to the staircase. They were walking up the flight of stairs when Rapunzel started whining.
"How much longer?" She cried as she let her body lean forward, arching her back. This was a lot of walking in flats. If she would have known, she would have worn her arch supports with them.
"We only have three more flights." Eugene chuckled. He thought she would have more stamina, but he figured she was just out of shape. She never talked about working out.
"I can see why you're in good shape. You walk up four flights of stairs everyday." She groaned, trudging her feet up the stairs. She wished that this stupid building had an elevator. That would really come in handy right about now.
"And down." He smiled as they the reached the top. Rapunzel collected herself and he held his hand on the handle. She nodded her head, ready for him to open the door. Right now, she had to be her perkiest. When they entered the room, they saw plenty of people gathering around having a good time.
"Congrats, Eugene!" Someone shouted as they walked through the crowd. Rapunzel didn't know he had so many coworkers in this tiny building. With this many people working here, you would think they could do a little better on the newspaper.
"Way to go!" Another smiled as he slapped her husband's back. Eugene would just laugh and nod his head at them. He was in a good mood today and everyone could tell. He always liked being the center of attention, so this was nice.
"Nice job!" A woman congratulated, placing her hand on his shoulder. Rapunzel felt a little jealous, moving closer to him. He just smiled at her, taking her hand again. He could tell she was becoming overwhelmed with the crowd.
"It only took you five years." A man teased as he shot Eugene a playful wink. Eugene rolled his eyes and fired back a response, making everyone laugh. They were wandering around, introducing Rapunzel to everyone.
"So this is the girl responsible for your comics. Let me tell you, you're a fabulous artist. Have you ever thought about being a professional?" A woman asked. Her blonde hair was pulled back in a tight bun. She had piecing blue eyes and was extremely thin.
"I have thought about it, but right now I'm just sticking with this." Rapunzel smiled. She didn't know who she was, but she looked intelligent, making her seem intimidating. Rapunzel looked around, trying to spot her husband. He seemed engrossed in a conversation so Rapunzel excused herself. She walked over to the darkest part of the office and saw an older man typing on his computer. "Hello." Rapunzel smiled, making him jump. No one was around them.
"Good afternoon." He grumbled. Rapunzel was curious about him. He did have fake spiders on his desk, but she thought they were cute in a creepy kind of way. He was wearing all black, giving him a deadly vibe.
"What do you write?" Rapunzel questioned, wanting to make small talk. She wanted to prove to Eugene that he was just being paranoid. There's no way that Pitch was really that bad.
"I write in the entertainment section." He mumbled, slowly typing on his computer. He could hear the whispers began to grow, reminding him of the wind rustling through the trees.
"Really? Me too." Rapunzel smiled. That statement made him look up at her. She could see his visible wrinkles from years of working. His gray eyes looked tired and old. He seemed liked he should have retired years ago.
"I've never seen you around here." He answered, his eyebrows furrowed. He looked in the crowd, watching them make glances towards them. He looked back at the brunette, seeing she was completely unfazed by the commotion behind them.
"I don't work here. My husband does. I just do the drawings." Rapunzel grinned. She was glad that she was getting through his dusty heart. He seemed like he hadn't talked to anyone in a long time.
"What's your name?" He questioned, looking into her bright green eyes. She reminded him of a child, full of youth and curiosity. No one dares to came near him, let alone actually speak to him.
"Rapunzel."
"Rapunzel..." He trailed. This was the first person who wasn't afraid of him. He wanted to know more about her. She seemed nice and gentle. Suddenly, two hands grabbed onto her shoulders.
"Rapunzel, I want you to meet Jeff." Eugene quickly smiled. He wanted to save Rapunzel from Pitch. He thought she got dragged over there and was stranded at his desk with no way to escape.
"Just wait, I'm talking with..." Rapunzel trailed. She wasn't going to let Eugene take her away that easily. Pitch could tell that Eugene was uneasy around. Eugene never looked at him or even greeted him. He acted like he was afraid of him.
"Please, just call me Pitch." He smiled, standing up. He was feeling his face turn from a frown into a soft smile. He hadn't done that in a long time.
"Well Pitch, this is my husband, Eugene." Rapunzel introduced, pointing to Eugene. His hands tightened on her tiny shoulders. Pitch could tell that he wanted to pull her away, but Pitch was alright with it. He didn't like making people feel uncomfortable.
"We've met." Eugene replied. He didn't remove his hands from her shoulders, still not trusting Pitch. He was standing too close for comfort. Eugene just wanted to go back to the party with everyone else.
"Congratulations, Eugene." Pitch nodded, trying to show him that he meant no harm. He could tell that it didn't work because he started to pull Rapunzel closer to him and backed away towards the party.
"Thanks. Well, Rapunzel and I should really be going." Eugene nervously smiled he tried to pull her away. He knew that was his ticket to get the hell out of there. If she didn't follow him, he was going to drag her out of there.
"Eugene," Rapunzel scolded. She couldn't believe how rude he was being. He was usually more polite in public from being raised with his rich parents. "I'm sorry, he's really impatient." Rapunzel apologized, looking at Pitch.
"That's alright. Well, I should be getting back to work anyways. It was good meeting you, Rapunzel. It was nice seeing you again, Eugene." Pitch bowed before he sat back down at his desk. He was interested in that couple. They seemed like opposites, but he liked them. They equaled each other out.
"Bye, Pitch." Rapunzel smiled as she waved goodbye, while Eugene dragged her away. When they were far enough away, Rapunzel loosened herself from his grip. "What was that all about?" Rapunzel exclaimed as she crossed her arms. She could believe he just pulled her out of there.
"I was getting you away." Eugene answered. He thought she would be more grateful that he rescued her from the beast. He was creepy, always giving Eugene the chills. He thought she was stuck over there.
"That was really rude. You know, he was actually very nice." She frowned, upset with her husband. He wasn't being himself. He was acting like he was five, afraid of monsters under his bed.
"He's creepy!" Eugene defended. He couldn't see how she was so blind to him. Maybe it was the rumors at made him afraid of Pitch, but he didn't like him.
"No he isn't. If you would just talk to him I think you would find out how nice he is," Rapunzel reasoned. Eugene huffed and frowned. Rapunzel looked him over and realization dawned on her. "You're just being over protective." Rapunzel awed.
"I'm not. I believe you can handle yourself." Eugene argued. He thought he had to rescue and being the helpful husband he is, he went over there to save her. He didn't want he to die from a spell or poison or something.
"Liar!" Rapunzel laughed. She couldn't believe he was actually concerned about her safety. Before he couldn't care less what she did as long as it wasn't annoying him. Now he was worried about her!
"I'm not being over protective." Eugene denied as his cheeks turned a light pink. Rapunzel smiled and kissed his cheek, making them a brighter pink. He couldn't believe she just did that in public.
"Hey Eugene! Guess who we just crashed into at your party?" Merida smirked as Hiccup and her burst into their conversation. The couple looked like they saw a ghost.
"Who?" Eugene asked, looking normal again.
~Elsa and Jack~
"I think you turn left here." Jack stated as he looked over the map. They tried using GPS, but that wasn't working so now they had to use a map. Which was just great because Jack got in F in geography.
"Are you sure?" Elsa questioned. They had made tons of wrong turns in the last ten minutes. At their rate, they would get to the party by next Tuesday. Elsa just didn't understand how Jack couldn't read a stupid map.
"No." Jack confessed as he twisted the map again. How was he supposed to hold the map anyways? Looking at a map made him feel like he was trying to decipher a dead language.
"Were you holding the map upside down again?" Elsa growled. That was at least the fifth time he had it upside down or on its side. Why couldn't he figure out a map from his own home state. Sure, if it was a different one she would be a little more patient, but he's lived here for how long?
"I don't know anymore. Maybe you should read the map." Jack replied as he tossed the map in front of her face. He didn't want that stupid map anymore. It was beginning to frustrate him.
"Jackson! I'm driving here!" Elsa scolded as she pushed the map back at him. She couldn't believe he just threw hat in front of her. She could have hit another car or even a child. She did not want to get in a crash.
"I can't read maps! Here, let me drive and you can read the map." Jack reasoned. He figured driving would be his better suit. At least he knew how to do that. I mean, he's been driving since he was 14, well, legally driving since he was 14.
"Fine, I'll pull over at the next gas station. Where do I turn?" Elsa groaned. She just wanted to get to the party already. They should have been there by now anyways. Anna was probably looking for them.
"Right." Jack smiled. Elsa raised her eyebrow and followed his instructions. Elsa continued driving down the road and didn't see a gas station anywhere. Soon, a green sign flashed by the passenger side.
"What did that sign just say? Elsa questioned as she watched Jack sink in his seat. He covered the map over his face, trying to hid himself. Well that's a great sign.
"Now leaving Corona." Jack squeaked. Elsa groaned and placed her head on the steering wheel muttering curses under her breath. This was going to be a longer trip than she planned.
~Merida and Hiccup~
"Are you sure this is the place?" Merida inquired as she stared at the old building. It looked over awful, like it was something left after a mass destruction or something. She couldn't believe she was going to go in it.
"Pretty sure." Hiccup smiled as he walked up to the side walk. Compared to the small town, this seemed natural. The town was old and full of people that just grew up here and never left. What were the odds of it getting fixed up?
"Okay, if you were in a zombie apocalypse, what would be the first thing you would do?" Merida questioned as she slipped her hand into Hiccup's. The longer she looked at the building, the more it reminded her of her favorite show.
"I'd probably find a good, sturdy shelter. A good source of water and food. Typical survival stuff." Hiccup answered, swinging their arms back and forth. Merida rolled her eyes, completely unimpressed with his response.
"Well that's lame." She scoffed.
"Well what would you do then?" He chuckled. What would you do if you were in a zombie apocalypse? Wouldn't you want a good shelter and source of food? Unless you just plan on killing everything you see like a maniac.
"I would totally go to a mall." Merida smiled. Hiccup stopped in his tracks and looked at the redhead. She was smiling bright than the sun, her long, tangled curls blowing in the wind.
"You? You would go to the mall?" He questioned. Merida eagerly nodded her head. She would definitely go to the mall first. "I don't believe it for a second."
"It's true! I could steal whatever I wanted. Tvs, video games, cell phones, you name it." She explained as they entered the building. Hiccup shook his head, about to argue with her, but before a word could come out, someone spoke up.
"Hello!" They were greeted by the secretary. They stood by the desk, looking at all of her pictures. She had them hanging in the walls and all over her desk. Most of them were grandkids or friends.
"Hi. We're here for the promotion party." Hiccup explained, tapping his fingers on the desk. Merida quietly picked up a picture, admiring the hand carved frame. It was stunning.
"Oh sure. It's down the hall, take a left, and up the stairs to the top." She explained. Merida and Hiccup thanked her and made their trek up the stairs. They entered the room and saw people greeting each other, having a good time.
"Well, we better find Eugene and get this over with." Merida sighed as she led Hiccup into the room. She really didn't want to be here, so she wanted to get her reason done. As long as she congratulated Eugene, she could get out.
"Hello! How are you?" A lady greeted shaking Merida's hand. Surprised, Merida tightly shook her hand, trying to show off how much strength she had. She wanted to show who had the most power.
"I'm good. And yourself?" Merida smiled. The woman was tall, thin, and looked intelligent. Her blonde hair was tightly pulled back into a tiny bun. She reminded Merida of a model or an actress playing a lawyer.
"I'm just great! How do you know Eugene?" She asked. Merida was surprised how fast she jumped the gun at asking questions. Merida thought she was a snoopy one, but this woman was worse than herself.
"Co-stars." Merida explained as she pointed to herself and Hiccup. Merida wasn't afraid to tell strangers that they were married. She was actually starting to feel a little proud that he was hers.
"Makes sense. Well, enjoy the rest of your afternoon." She smiled as she wander of to the next couple entering the room. Merida and Hiccup chatted with lots of people, most of them they wouldn't remember in the next hour. Soon, the star of the show came into their field of vision. They politely excused themselves and went to congratulate him.
"Hey loser!" Merida playfully greeted as she tapped his shoulder. She loved teasing him since her took it to heart so fast. He was just so sensitive. He turned around and smiled.
"Hello?" He questioned. He had never seen this pair before. They looked like they were best friends or forced to be together. He couldn't tell which one.
"Surprised to see us?" Hiccup chuckled. He figured that Rapunzel wanted it to be a surprise for Eugene so she didn't tell him anything. So he had to be surprised to see them right now, right?
"I suppose." He replied. Merida and Hiccup looked at each other then back at Eugene. Sure? Either you are or you aren't. You can't be halfway surprised. That just sounded stupid.
"Rap invited us." She explained, hoping he would fully understand now. I mean, Eugene was dumb, but he wasn't this dumb. Either all of this attention has gone to his head or he was playing stupid.
"Who's Rap?" He questioned, tilting his head. He couldn't remember that name before. You would think that he would remember a name like that. It's so unique.
"Your wife? Come Eugene, don't play dumb with us." Hiccup replied. Suddenly, Eugene started laughing. Merida and Hiccup shot each a glance of worry. What the hell was happening?
"Oh, I'm not Eugene." He chuckled as he wiped away his imaginary tears. Okay, now things were definitely getting weird now. Who the hell was this doppelgänger?
"Then who are you?" Merida questioned, looking him over. She thought he looked exactly like Eugene.
"I'm his twin, Elijah. I know, we look very similar." He smiled, shrugging his shoulders. Elijah was always called Eugene or Eugene would always complain about being called Elijah.
"You two look exactly the same." She awed, her jaw dropping to the floor. He gave them a chuckle then ran his hand through his hair. He knew he looked like the man of the hour and, like Eugene, was happy with the attention.
"Well, I should be going. Need to congratulate Eugene myself. Nice talking to you." Elijah grinned as he fixed his tie. He pushed in between the two of them and walked off. Merida and Hiccup stood there confused. They turned around, watching him leave.
"What the-"
"Heck." Hiccup finished. They looked at each other, their eyebrows cocked. They were so lost about what was happening.
"We need to find Eugene," Merida stated as she grabbed Hiccup's hand and led him around the room. Hiccup had to apologize to the people they bumped into because Mer was in mission mode. When that happens, she forgets about everyone and everything around her. Soon, she spotted her target talking to a familiar brunette. "Hey Eugene! Guess who we just crashed into at your party?" Merida smirked.
"Who?" Eugene questioned, looking at the couple. Rapunzel was holding onto his hand, looking at up at her husband. What was going on?
"Your twin, Elijah. Dude, you two look the exact same." Hiccup awed. Hiccup had no idea that Eugene had a twin. It was kind of cool, but also kind of creepy at the same time.
"What the heck is he doing here?" Eugene questioned, looking at Rapunzel. She shrugged her shoulders and followed him as he swerved through the crowd. Merida and Hiccup wanted to see what this would led to so they followed. "Elijah?" Eugene questioned as he came to his clone.
"Eugene! Long time no see." Elijah greeted as he patted Eugene on the back. The group of friends watched, lost about what was happening. It looked like he was talking to a different version of himself.
"What are you doing here?" Eugene asked. Eugene didn't ask his brother to come to his promotion party, in fact, he didn't invite any of his family members at all. How did Elijah figure out he was having this?
"I came to congratulate my little brother." Elijah smiled, nudging Eugene's shoulder. Eugene could tell that something was up. His brother was never this nice to him. So why was he acting like this now?
"I'm only younger by ten minutes." Eugene frowned. He hated that Elijah always used that excuse. It wasn't Eugene's fault that he was later. He wished he wasn't a twin at all actually.
"But I'm taller." Elijah chuckled. Eugene's mouth never turned into a smile. He couldn't see what he could possibly be happy about right now. He wasn't glad to his twin at all.
"Not really." Eugene replied. Rapunzel looked between the two trying to find some differences. They were exactly the same except for their eyes. Eugene had brown eyes while Elijah had a light blue, almost grey. Other than that, they were replicas of their father. Same voice, same hair style, same height.
"So this is Rachel. How did you meet my little bro?" Elijah smiled at Rapunzel. Elijah was trying to make small talk, hoping he could get some information out of Eugene's girl.
"It's actually Rapunzel." She corrected. She didn't like Elijah. There was something off about him. He acted superior to them, like he was better than all of them. Probably because of the way his parents raised him. Rapunzel thought.
"Right, sorry. I knew it began with a R," He chuckled, hoping he was making the mood lighter. No one joined in so he quickly fixed his posture. "Anyways, when did you meet Eug?" Elijah asked. Eugene shuttered at his childhood nickname. He never liked it.
"Are you kidding?" Merida scoffed. Hiccup had been stopping her from speaking up, but he couldn't hold her back for long. She was getting annoyed with the scene unfolding in front of them.
"No." Elijah replied, changing the mood from playful to serious in a matter of seconds. He stood tall, making himself look more intimidating. He wanted to show that he meant business.
"We met last month." Rapunzel answered annoyed. She wanted to take the attention off of Merida and Hiccup. She also couldn't believe that Eugene never told him about his marriage. That was just rude and she was somewhat hurt by it.
"And you guys are still together? Wow, I didn't know my brother could keep a girlfriend that long." Elijah teased. Rapunzel scrunched her nose and shook her head. Are you kidding me? Did no one keep this guy in the loop? Now Rapunzel was upset with Eugene and his twin.
"We're married." Rapunzel spat. Elijah looked between Eugene and Rapunzel and burst out laughing. They looked at each other, both wanting to kill the guy now. Not only was he teasing Eugene, but now he was mocking them.
"What's so funny?" Merida demanded, placing her hands on her hips. She couldn't stand this guy. She couldn't believe he was related to Eugene. Sure, Eugene was annoying, but he wasn't rude.
"Are you serious?" Elijah questioned, arching his eyebrow. Rapunzel angrily nodded her head. There's no way that those two were married. "Let me guess, red head and wimp are together too?" Elijah smirked. That had to be a joke.
"What did you just call my husband?" Merida shouted, catching people's attention. Everyone turned and watched the scene beginning to grow. Everyone could feel the tension and anger building up inside the room.
"Sorry, I didn't mean it in a bad way. I mean, I'm a wimp too." Elijah defended. He was becoming afraid of the redhead. He didn't know she had so much strength and would actually speak her mind.
"Listen here, little man. I will personally break each and every one of your bones if you ever call my husband that again. Comprende?" Merida growled, getting so close to Elijah that he could feel her hot breath. She had to stand on her tip toes to reach his face, but she still terrified him.
"Comprendo." Elijah whimpered. He didn't know she had that much power. He had no idea that she was that brave to actually stand up for herself and her husband. Merida nodded her head and dragged Hiccup away.
"Look, I'm glad you came down here to congratulate me, but you and I both know that nothing can ever be the same again." Eugene stated, trying to forget what just happened between Elijah and Merida. He just wanted him gone.
"I wasn't trying to make things the same. I was trying to make them better." Elijah argued. Now Elijah was hurt. Why wasn't Eugene happy to see him? Sure, Elijah wasn't really here to congratulate him, but he was upset that his twin didn't want him.
"Well gee, things are totally coming back together." Eugene sarcastically huffed as he rolled his eyes. It seemed like nothing had changed since Eugene had moved out,
"Look, you may not want me back in your life, but I'm wanted other places. I'm wanted back home with Mom and Dad, I'm wanted back at my company, hell, I'm even wanted more in this damn town than you. So you can either be thankful I'm letting you back in my life or you can push me away again." Elijah threatened. Eugene stood there silent, realizing that he had nothing to defend himself. He really wasn't wanted anywhere.
"I want him in my life." Rapunzel spoke up. Eugene looked at her confused. Did she actually want him in her life? That was a surprising confession. Rapunzel didn't even know it slipped her mouth.
"Are you serious?" Elijah questioned, looking down at Rapunzel. She was wearing her flats so she was almost a foot shorter. She nodded her head, determined. "Well Eug, I guess you have one thing I don't."
"And what's that?" She demanded. She was almost about to explode from her anger building up inside. She wanted Elijah gone. He was ruining everything, the party and the mood.
"A girlfriend. And boy is she feisty. I mean, not as much as redhead, but she's got a lot of fire in her too." Elijah chuckled. Eugene rolled his eyes as Rapunzel fumed. Elijah leaned down and quietly whispered into Rapunzel's ear, "If he ever hurts you or you feel unappreciated, don't hesitate to call me." He placed his number into Rapunzel's hand as he walked past them towards the door.
"What did he say?" Eugene questioned. Elijah could be something else. You never know what he'll pull on people. Eugene felt bad that Rapunzel had to meet his brother like that.
"It was nothing. Anyways, I can see why you hated him." Rapunzel replied as she shredded his number. There was no way that she would ever call Eugene's brother for a 'good time.'
~Elsa and Jack~
"Okay, next right." Elsa replied as Jack changed into the right lane. They traded spots a couple miles back and they were headed back to Corona. Finally they were back on track. Hopefully, they'll be there soon.
"Next right." Jack repeated as he turned right. He wanted to make sure he was following her directions. If he couldn't even drive, then he was really worthless at the moment.
"No I meant as in the next exit. Not this one!" Elsa exclaimed. Jack pulled off the freeway onto the wrong exit, taking them on the wrong path. Now they were going to be later than usual.
"Oops. I guess we'll have to take a scenic route." Jack chuckled. He wanted to make this trip fun. I mean, you couldn't even enjoy riding in a car together, how would you have fun on the trip together?
"You did this on purpose." Elsa awed. She couldn't believe that Jack just did that. He just made their trip so much longer than it needed to be.
"No I didn't. I want to go to that party just as much as you." He lied. He really didn't want to go at all. He thought it would be completely boring, but since Eugene was their friend, he was going for him,
"I'm only going because Rap invited us." She fired back. Elsa really didn't want to go, but she wanted to show that she cared about her friends and their accomplishments, so she was going to the party with or without Jackson.
"And that's a perfectly good explanation, but can't we have a little fun our way there?" Jack smirked. He wanted to at least have a little fun with her.
"I suppose. I mean, we're already on this road. Why not?" Elsa smiled. Jack grinned and turned up the music. Elsa searched for a good station and found a pop channel. She instantly burst out in song. Jack was slapping the steering wheel to the beat of the song. They were laughing and enjoying each other's company. If you wouldn't have known they met a month ago, you would have thought they'd known each other their whole lives.
~Anna and Kristoff~
"Ooo! This is so exciting! I've never been to a promotion party before. Do you think people will know?" Anna rambled. Anna was so happy to be out of their city. She wanted to see where Eugene and Rapunzel were living.
"I doubt it." Kristoff chuckled. Kristoff didn't know anyone from Corona beside Eugene and Rap. No one really came from small towns to live in the big cities. It was usually the opposite.
"Should I wear the gold studs or the sliver hoop earrings?" Anna questioned as she held each one to her ear. She couldn't decide her outfit. She wanted to look presentable.
"Silver. It goes better with your maroon tank." He answered. Kristoff thought that it looked better with her sparkly marrow tank.
"Good point. I didn't know you knew anything about fashion." She teased. Kristoff was so manly that she thought he couldn't care less about fashion. He was always fixing something or doing something for her.
"I've lived with five sisters. I know a little more than you think." Kristoff smiled. Living with older sisters helped him understand fashion...and sadly makeup. Yes, he was their test subject on multiple occasions.
"What do you think Corona's like?" Ann wondered, looking out her window. She had heard of the town when she was younger, but they never really had a need to go there. She had everything she need in Arendelle.
"A small town, definitely not as big as Arendelle or Burgess." Kristoff replied. Kristoff had drove through Corona whenever he went on trips, but he never stopped to take pictures or something. I mean, there's nothing there!
"How small? Like do you think they'll have a mall?" She smiled, pressing her nose against the glass. She just wanted out of this car. She wanted to stretch her legs and run free.
"I don't know. Maybe." Kristoff chuckled.
"I hope so. I need new heels and Elsa said that she would take me shopping soon but now she's extremely busy." Anna mumbled, rolling her eyes. Elsa's always busy with work garbage. Never had time for fun anymore.
"Why?" He questioned, cocking his eyebrow. That was an odd excuse for not going out with Anna. Those two always shopped together.
"Well duh, the addition." Anna scoffed.
"Why is she busy? She doesn't have to do any work. She already set up the papers." Kristoff fired back, confusion lacing his words. Her reason didn't make sense in his mind. She didn't have to do anything for the addition.
"I don't know. Elsa is just a worry wart." Anna teased, swatting away his comment. She didn't understand why this was such a big deal for Kristoff. It was just Elsa. She would make time for Anna soon.
"I know." Kristoff replied as he pulled into Corona. Anna immediately smushed her face against the window again, excited to see what the little town looked like. Old billboards rolled past her window. The cracked sidewalks followed them deeper it o town.
"How old is this place?" Anna questioned, scrunching her nose in disgust. This place looked like it came from the 1950's. It was broken and old.
"How should I know?"
"Where are the skyscrapers? There's no traffic except this annoying red light. Did everyone suddenly die?" Anna exclaimed as Kristoff patiently tapped his fingers in the steering wheel. He knew Anna would freak out.
"I told you it isn't like Arendelle. It's a small town." He explained as the light finally turned green. He slowly pulled forwards, listen to her rant on and on.
"No wonder Punzie invited us to come down. There is literally no one here! Their lives must be so boring." She whined. Anna now knew why Rapunzel and Eugene liked coming to the bigger cities, they were with other people!
"Not if they're used to it." Kristoff fired back. Anna sighed and leaned her head in her hand. She placed her elbow on the side of the car, watching houses trail outside.
"I would cry myself to sleep every night and beg you to take me back to Arendelle." She stated, making Kristoff laugh.
"It's a good thing we don't live here then." Kristoff replied as he pulled into the parking, barley missing the potholes. He finally found a place to park and turned off the car. He unbuckled his seatbelt and listened to Anna ramble about how boring the town was and how old the building looked.

"Can't carry on. Need chocolate," Anna cried as she crawled up the stairs. Kristoff chuckled and carried her up the stairs. When they got to the top, he placed her down and she straightened out her shirt. "Okay, let's go." She smiled as she pushed open the doors. As they were entering, she saw a fuming Merida and Hiccup leaving.
"Mer? Where you going?" Kristoff questioned as they pushed past them. They began to stomp down the stairs, making the noise echo.
"Away from here. Tell Eugene his brother is a bas-"
"-set hound." Hiccup finished. Merida stopped and stared at Hiccup. That wasn't what she was going for, but it worked. She looked back at Kristoff and rolled her eyes.
"Sure. And don't forget to tell him I said congratulations. I just can't stand being in that room anymore!" She shouted as she yanked on her curly red hair. When she tried to remove her fingers, they were tangled up and Hiccup had to help untangle them. Anna looked at Kristoff and shrugged. They entered the room and were greeted by many people.
She immediately led Kristoff towards Rapunzel and tapped on her shoulder. "Hi Punzie!"
"Anna! I'm so glad you could make it." Rapunzel smiled as she hugged Anna. She was so happy that everyone was trying to come to this impression event today.
"So, what did Eugene do to make Mer turn into a bear?" Kristoff teased. Merida reminded him off a grizzly bear. You know they're dangerous, especially when you decide to annoy them.
"Oh it wasn't Eugene. No, no. It was his twin Elijah. Long story short, he's on everyone's bad side." She quickly explained. She began to feel a little angry again, but she was going to try to push it back.
"That's terrible." Anna frowned. She knew what it was like to be pushed away. Maybe Elijah just needed another chance.
"Well he wasn't exactly friendly." Rapunzel shrugged.
"Rapunzel! I'm so happy to see you!" A voice shouted making Rapunzel's face turn annoyed. She quickly shook it off and turned it into a sweet smile. If you knew Rapunzel well enough, you would know she was totally ticked off. She was just good at faking it and it scared Anna and Kristoff. If she's this good at faking, how do I know she's actually enjoying herself around me? Anna thought.
"Martha! What a wonderful surprise." Rapunzel lied as she walked towards her mother-in-law, a smile plastered on her face. Why do you have to ruin everything? Rapunzel thought.
"I thought you told me Eugene was busy." Martha greeted, resting a hand onto her chest. The more Rapunzel looked at her, the more she wanted her to leave. This woman may be Eugene's mother, but she didn't treat him right.
"He was. If he wasn't, he wouldn't have gotten this promotion." Rapunzel replied. Rapunzel always had to tell her he was busy. Everyday that woman called Rapunzel would tell her he's busy.
"I suppose." Martha grinned. Timothy, Eugene's father, proudly stood behind his wife. He placed his arm around her waist, pulling her close. Rapunzel watched the couple, noticing how they acted in public.
"So, where is the super star?" Timothy questioned as he looked around the room. He was reminding her of Eugene because of the way he looked over the crowd. He rose to his tip toes when he didn't have to.
"I'm not sure. Let me go find him." Rapunzel smiled as she quickly ran away. She wanted to get away from there as fast as possible. This was turning into a huge problem. Timothy and Martha shrugged their shoulders and decided to talk with Anna and Kristoff.

Soon, Rapunzel appeared in the distance dragging a stubborn Eugene along. "Hey! Congrats, Eugene!" Kristoff called out, happy that now they could stop talking all about Martha and Timothy. God how he wanted them to leave.
"Thanks." Eugene smiled, but soon it faded as he looked at his parents. Everyone could tell there was some awkward tension between the parents and child. The stood apart with Rapunzel almost in between them.
"Eugene! Darling!" Martha cried as she brought him into a hug. Eugene lightly returned it, obviously only doing it because everyone was watching. Everyone could tell hat they weren't on good terms.
"Thanks for finding him, R! R? Can I call you R?" Martha quickly asked Rapunzel. Not wanting to seem rude, she nodded her head in agreement.
"I guess." Rapunzel mumbled, rubbing her hand up her arm. She really wanted the couple gone, but they were his parents. They would never leave.
"Congrats son!" Timothy smiled as he slapped his son on the back.
"Thanks." Eugene replied. He didn't want to see them today either. It was like his family was out to get him or something. Everyone he wanted to avoid was here.
"So Timothy-" Rapunzel started.
"Please, call me Tim." He laughed. Rapunzel stopped and caught her breath again. She didn't really like when he interrupted her, but she had to keep going.
"Tim, have you met Anna and Kristoff?" She asked, pointing towards the couple awkwardly watching this scene take place.
"Yes, they seem like very lovely people." Martha jumped in. She was having so much fun here. She thought she should come to all of Eugene's parties from now on.
"Well, thanks for dropping by, but I think you should be headed into back home now." Eugene quickly replied as he walked his parents towards the door. He wanted them gone before he cracked.
"Eugene, we just got here! Besides, we're supposed to meet Elijah here." Martha giggled like a six year old spilling a secret. Eugene rolled his eyes. God, sometimes his parents were stupid.
"Welp, you just missed him." Rapunzel stated, looking like she didn't even care. Immediately, she could feel Anna and Kristoff tense up behind her. They heard about him.
"We did no such thing! He said he would be here by 1:45!" Martha gasped. She couldn't believe that Rap thought they missed him. They were always on time, and so was Elijah.
"It's 2:30."
"Is it really?" Tim asked as he checked his golden watch. "By golly, it is!"
"Well, time flys when you're having fun at the golf course!" Martha laughed as she pretended to hit a golf ball of the tee. They chuckled together, not really caring that they missed him.
"Yeah. Well, I suppose you better be headed out now." Eugene persisted, trying to almost pull them to the exit. They sooner they leave, they sooner he can be happy again.
"I want a piece of cake." Martha replied. Rapunzel quickly ran off to grab a piece of cake with Anna hot on her tail. They wanted to get out of there before Eugene burst. Everyone could tell that he didn't want them there.
"Darling, you already had a scoop of ice cream earlier today." Tim chuckled.
"I completely forgot! You can forgot that cake. Well, we should be going. Bye, Eugene!" Martha smiled as she sloppily kissed his cheek. He smiled, glad that they were leaving. "Tell R goodbye for me!"
"See ya, Eug!" Tim chuckled as he slapped his back. They exited as Rapunzel and Anna returned with two slices of cake.
"Where'd they go?" Anna asked as she looked around the room. She figured she could spot the coupe, from a mile away with their shiny rings. They were obviously loaded with money.
"They left." Kristoff smiled. He was so glad that they were gone. They annoyed the heck out of them when they showed them. He was tempted to fall to his knees and thank God out loud.
"That's it! I can't stand your family anymore!" Rapunzel shouted. Why were they soo..soo..confusing? His parents acted like they would never leave and his brother acted like he wanted to get with her.
"Rapunzel, calm down." Eugene stated. Rapunzel stared at him and shoved the whole slice of cake into her mouth. Kristoff, Anna, and Eugene looked at her in horror. What was going on?
"Stress eating. Because of you." Rapunzel blamed as crumbs fell from her mouth. She wasn't just going to let that slice of cake go to waste. She might as well eat it herself and from all of this stress, it was was tempting her.
"Sorry." Eugene apologized. He knew this was a lot to take in. His family was a mess and he was actually surprised at how well she was holding up. Rapunzel took a deep breath when she finished chewing. She was trying to calm down.
"I just need a break." Rapunzel frowned she she rubbed her fingers over her temples. Her head was beginning to pound as she stood there. She just wanted some fresh air and some space.
"Okay, there's a coffee shop down the street. Go there for a little while and let the real Rap come back. When's she back, just come back and by then we should be taking down the party." Eugene explained as he walked with her towards the door. She was looking a little pale and stressed so he wanted to her to regain her composure.
"Okay. Thanks, Eugene." Rapunzel smiled as she kissed his cheek then ran down the stairs. She was thankful that he was letting her go out to get some time to herself. She felt bad for leaving him, but she couldn't turn him down.
~Elsa and Jack~
"Turn right." Elsa smiled. She was having fun on their trip here. It was awful when they first started this trip, but it turned out good in the end. She actually felt happy again.
"Turning right." Jack repeated as he pulled into the parking lot. We got out of the car and Jack led Elsa to the door like a 'true gentleman'. Basically, he just looped his arm in her's and opened the door for her. As they were walking in, Rapunzel was walking out.
"Hey Rap!" Elsa greeted as the brunette pushed past them. She seemed like she was in her own world, completely ignoring the one around her.
"Hey." Rapunzel mumbled as she kept walking. She rubbed her fingers on her temples, acting like she was on a mission. She tripped over a few rocks as she walked across the parking lot.
"Where ya going?" Jack asked as they turned around, watching her walk away from the party. He was really confused about what she was doing. She was the who invited them and now she was leaving.
"Away from here." She chuckled. She really wanted to leave and she knew it sounded stupid. She was leaving her husband behind as she went to do whatever she wanted, but he insisted that she go.
"Why?" Elsa questioned, raising one of her eyebrows. She didn't know why Rapunzel would leave Eugene. She thought that she was stick by his side the whole day, almost making him annoyed.
"I've been here all day and I'm starting to get stressed out. I'll be back soon. I just need a couple shots of espresso." She explained as she walked backwards towards the road. She knew this seemed rude, but she couldn't talk it anymore.
"Okay." Jack shrugged. It made sense in his mind. Things like this stressed Elsa out too, but she couldn't leave. Rapunzel turned back around and sped walked towards the sidewalk.
"And maybe a little tequila." Rapunzel whispered just loud enough for them to hear. Jack tried to hide his laugh but it come out sounding weird. Rapunzel turned around and weakly smiled as Elsa slapped his chest. They walked into the lobby and saw a secretary on her phone. Probably playing Candy Crush. Elsa thought.
"Hello!" The secretary greeted as she shut off her phone. She wanted to make sure that everything was going to well. She was very fond of Eugene and she wanted this to go as smoothly as possible for him.
"Hi, we're here for the promotion party thingy." Jack smiled. Elsa playfully nudged him for his great description. Did he really have to add 'thingy' to the end of that sentence?
"For Eugene?" She questioned. They quickly nodded their heads yes. "Well, it ends in about fifteen minutes."
"That's all the time we need." Elsa softly smiled. They didn't need any more time than that. Eugene would be glad that they at least showed up.
"Anyways, it's down the hall, take a left, and up the stairs to the top." The secretary explained. Elsa and Jack thanked her and marched their way up the stairs. When they entered, they saw Anna and Kristoff eating something covered in chocolate.
"Hey guys." Jack greeted. They looked up and waved. They were glad that they showed up. Maybe things would be more exciting, besides Rapunzel's mental breakdown of course.
"Hellow!" Anna replied with cake in her mouth. She didn't care if she looked rude, it was her sister. Elsa was used to this.
"Is the cake good?" Elsa teased. She loved Anna and knew she was just embracing her personality, even if it was a little messy and disturbing to others.
"It's to die for." Kristoff replied as he pretended to be a fancy a gentleman. He carefully cut a piece from his slice, acting nothing like himself. He made sure it was even on all ends and could perfectly fit inside his mouth.
"Oh Timothy, I can't believe you made me eat this slice of cake!" Anna replied, going along with Kristoff. She couldn't believe that they were his parents. Eugene was nothing like them.
"But Martha-" Kristoff started.
"Yeah, yeah. You've had your fun. Now quit mocking my parents." Eugene chuckled as he joined their group. They blushed and shrugged their shoulders. They hoped he didn't mind that they just did that.
"Congrats Eugene!" Elsa smiled as she handed him a card. Jack and her bought it before they came and decided to surprise him.
"We were supposed to bring gifts?" Anna replied with eyes as wide as saucers. If she would have known, she would have bought him a card too and signed it.
"You shouldn't have." Eugene smirked. He was surprised that they even thought to bring him a gift, let alone show up to this lame party.
"Well go on, open it." Jack encouraged. Eugene looked between the couples and shrugged his shoulders. He ripped open the envelope and pulled out the card.
"Congratulations on your special day." Eugene read. He opened the card and was attacked with streamers and confetti. Eugene frowned as red and blue streamers landed in his hair. Everyone burst out laughing at the sight. "Welp. That would explain why Jack wanted me to open it."
"Did you see his face?" Kristoff laughed. He wasn't expecting that, but it made his day. It was almost better than when Martha asked if she could call Rapunzel 'R.'
"I got it on camera too! I'm totally sending this to Rap!" Elsa laughed as she quickly typed on her phone. She hoped this would make her feel at least a tad bit better.
"Oh joy." Eugene sarcastically replied. Elsa smiled and quickly nodded her head. She was going to use this as black mail forever.
"So, where are these cartoons?" Anna questioned. She figured that since she was here that she might as well see them. They had to be at least somewhat good.
"Right over here. Rap drew them but they were all my idea." Eugene boasted as he led them to a cardboard cutout with cartoons tape to it. They were beautiful drawings, catching your attention as if to say, 'Look at me! No, look at me! I'm better!'
"Wow, Punz did wonderful." Elsa awed. Elsa wished she had a cool talent, like painting or playing an instrument. Sadly, she was blessed with neither one. But she could persuade you into buy anything.
"Flynn's Tangled Tales." Anna read out loud as she looked at the comics. She was awed by them. She thought they looked silly and attractive. She wanted to read every single one.
"So, what do you think?" Eugene questioned. He really hoped his new friends liked his hard work. He hoped that he wasn't promoted just because they were better than the other failed attempts.
"My favorite one is Barrel Blast." Jack smiled. Suddenly, a dark shadow loomed over the happy group. They slowly turned around, confused about where the sun went.
"Sorry to burst your bubble, Eugene, but your little get together ended two minutes ago." A old man in all black growled. He glared at him, making Eugene raise his hands in surrender. He really didn't want to upset him.
"Sorry Pitch. We'll be quieter." Eugene apologized. He nodded and started to walk away.
"Uncle Pitch?" Jack questioned, stepping out from the group. The man stopped in his tracks and slowly turned around. Uncle Pitch? He hadn't been called that in years. "It's me, Jackson."
"Jackson?" He stuttered. Jack nodded his head, gently smiling. He hadn't seen him in years. "What are you doing here? I thought your father told me-"
"I'm married. These are my friends. Well, everyone except Eugene is family." He introduced as he pointed to the group. They all slightly waved, confused about what was happening. Jack knew this guy?
"You're married?" Pitch mumbled. Oh god, it really has been a long time. The last time he saw little Jack, he was just a little middle schooler. He was a fun loving, rebellious boy.
"Yeah, but what are you doing here?" Jack frowned. He didn't understand why his uncle was here in this little town? Why didn't he ever come back to visit? Didn't he know what he did to him?
"I'm a writer, Jack. I'm doing what I love most." Pitch smiled with tears welling in his eyes. Looking at Jack was like staring at a miracle. He missed him. He loved Jack like his own son.
"Why did you leave us? Why did you leave me? I thought you died and were never coming back." Jack cried. When Jack was about thirteen years old, his favorite uncle left without a word. No one knew where he left to or why he did.
"I'm sorry, Jack. It was for the good of everyone. You know I'm a monster. No one wanted me a around-"
"You know that isn't true." Jack argued, cutting into his sentence. Jack never thought his uncle was a monster. He was too kind, too gentle to be labeled that. He wouldn't hurt a fly.
"But it is. Your father didn't want me around you and Jamie." Pitch softly reasoned. He didn't want to turn Jack away from his father, but he had to be honest with him. Jack was old enough to decide who to believe.
"Why? Why wouldn't he?" He questioned.
"I told you, he thought I was a monster. He read the things wrote. I mean, would you trust your creepy, older, step brother around your sons?" Pitch questioned. Jack remained silent, not knowing how to answer the question. "I didn't think so."
"Have you even met Sophie?" Jack suddenly questioned. Pitch never mentioned her. Now that Jack thought about, Sophie didn't even know who he was.
"Who's Sophie?" Pitch demanded. Why would he know a Sophie? Maybe Jack's father had remarried. Why would Pitch want to meet her?
"My little sister." He explained, cupping his hand over his mouth, trying not to let his tears spill. Elsa reached out and placed her delicate hand on his shoulder to provide support.
"There's more of you?" Pitch stuttered. He paced around the room, running his long fingers through his hair. Jack had a little sister and Pitch wasn't even told. He didn't know whether to feel joy or sorrow.
"It's me, Jamie, and Sophie." Jack replied. Pitch looked at him with tears streaming down his face. Pitch had always loved Jack and Jamie, but Jack's father pushed him away. Pitch was the odd ball, the ugly step brother in the family. Eventually, Pitch couldn't handle it anymore.
"I'm back! Man, you guys have to try the-" Rapunzel exclaimed as she walked through the door. She stopped herself as she looked at Pitch, tears running down his face, and Jack, looking at him with sorrow.
"Hello Rapunzel, it's nice to see you again." Pitch greeted as he wiped away his tears with his pale hand. He was glad to see her still in a happy mood. He was confused about his mixed emotions right now.
"Hey Pitch. These guys aren't giving you any trouble, right?" Rapunzel questioned. She wanted to make sure they weren't bugging him. She had already made a place in her heart for him.
"No, no. We were having a nice, pleasant talk." He lied. Rapunzel looked around at the group and knew Pitch was lying. So Rapunzel did what she felt was necessary. She walked right over to Pitch and gave him a huge hug.
"You don't need to lie. I'll listen to you," Rapunzel whispered. Pitch cried and hugged her back. She looked at Eugene and motioned him to join in. He silently groaned and joined in. Soon, everyone was giving Pitch a huge hug. "Now, let's start at the beginning." Rapunzel smiled.
