Hangover
~Jack and Elsa~
Jack groaned as he sat up in their soft, white bed. His head pounded with physical pain and emotional questions. Where the hell am I? He took a deep breath trying to remember what happened that night. "Good morning." Elsa greeted as she passed by him. She was already dressed and had her hair and makeup done.
"Morning?" He replied although it sounded more like a question. He stared into the air, trying to process what was happening. His memory was drawing a blank.
Elsa looked him up and down. His white hair was shagged all over his head. He had dried drool around the side of his mouth. The bags under his eyes were noticeable from where she was standing. "You look terrible." She mumbled.
"God, I feel awful." Jack whined, completely missing Elsa's comment. He rubbed his hands against his temples, begging for the pain to leave. Elsa sat down on the edge of the bed. Her motherly instincts were kicking in. She wanted to get him some Advil and take care of him, but he was an adult. He could take care of himself.
"Do you remember anything?" Elsa questioned. She wanted to make sure they were on the same page. Crazy things happened last night and Jack was the center of attention. He was everyone's best friend, buying random people drinks and even offering to drive, which no one agreed to.
Jack slowly shook his head no. Elsa sighed and tightly closed her eyes. She really didn't want to explain everything again. If she was Jack last night, she would have been completely embarrassed. "I'm not sure you want to."
"I want to, but can you talk a little quieter?" Jack frowned as he later back down. He shut his eyes, hoping the decrease in light would make his headache pass. Elsa took a deep breath and began from the top. All too soon, she got to the part she was dreading.
"Then you asked me to dance," She blushed as she played with her ring. "I was terrible." She chuckled as she stood up from the bed and walked towards the dresser. Jack felt her move, so he sat up and watched her take shaky breaths as she walked away.
"Elsa, are you afraid to dance?" He asked. Elsa froze in terror. Past memories came crashing against her like the waves outside.
"It's alright, Elsa. Just follow my lead." Her father encouraged. He placed her arms around his neck. They were practicing for her school dance. She didn't know how to dance so she asked her father.
"What if I mess up?" She questioned. She didn't want to make a fool of herself. She wanted to be her daddy's perfect daughter.
"You'll be fine, Elsa." He assured as he twirled her around the living room. After hours of practicing, she continued stepping on his feet.
"I'm horrible!" She cried as she tossed herself onto the couch.
"Elsa, do you really want to go to this dance?" Her father asked as he sat down beside her. He placed his hand on her back and gently rubbed it in circles. He loved Elsa and seeing her in pain was like taking a bullet to the heart.
"Yes." She mumbled. She didn't have very many friends, so she hoped that this would make her more popular. She had always felt like an outcast. She was...different, and not in the way she wanted. She wasn't the girl boys gawked at. She was the girl boys turned the other direction from.
"I'll be back." Her father stated as he stood up. After a little while, giggling was heard bouncing off the walls.
"I'm here to help!" Anna shouted as she ran beside Elsa.
"Anna is going to be your partner. I'm going to tell you what you're doing wrong." He smiled as he placed his hands onto Anna's shoulders. She was bouncing with excitement, something very typical of her. Elsa looked up with red, puffy eyes. She wasn't sure if it would work, but she had to try. After a half hour of dancing and twirling, Elsa finally got the hang out it. Eventually, it became something her father and her did on a regular basis before he passed.
"Jack, I don't want to talk it." She muttered. She never felt comfortable dancing with people other than her father. He was the biggest influence in her life, and suddenly, he was gone and it was all her fault.
"Elsa, can we? Please?" Jack pleaded. He had to know her fear. Maybe she had never danced before. Maybe she had clammy hands. She could be uncomfortable with dancing with him. Whatever it could be, he had to know. He didn't want to push her to do something she didn't like.
Elsa frowned and sat down on the bed. She hung her head low, letting her blonde hair stream over the side of her face. Conceal, don't feel. Don't let them know. Elsa thought to herself. She couldn't let Jack see her cry. She was the perfect, poised leader. Nothing could break her. "Jackson, what I'm about to tell you, you can not tell Anna."
"Okay." Jack replied. She turned and looked him in the eyes.
"Swear." She spat.
"I swear on the bible." Jack quickly answered. He could tell that Elsa wasn't in the mood for games, not that he would pull any right now.
"I'm the reason for my parents' death." She sobbed. She placed her hands over her face, trying not to let Jack see.
"Elsa, that can't be true." Jack comforted. Jack didn't know the story or even when they died, but from what he's learned about her, it couldn't be possible. Elsa was too cautious, too gentle. She couldn't have been the cause for their death. Murderer didn't make the list of possible things Elsa was.
"It is." She croaked. Elsa felt like she tried running through a brick wall only to find out that it wasn't like cartoons. She felt pain everywhere. She never talks about their death.
"Can you tell me?" Jack softly whispered. He didn't want to upset her. He knew that death was something no one liked talking about.
Elsa looked up at him. She felt like a child who fell off the swing and Jack was asking her how it happened. "I don't know." She mumbled.
"Okay, I don't want to push you." Jack frowned. In his eyes, Elsa could see sympathy. She could could tell he was being serious, something he never was. She knew she had to tell him eventually. Might as well get this over, Elsa.
Elsa took a deep breath, trying to calm herself down. "Jack, I have to tell you sooner or later, so it might as well be today."
"Okay." Jack replied as he sat up. He scooted closer to her in case she needed some comforting. He didn't want her to feel alone anymore.
"My parents were on their way to a dinner party. They weren't planning on attending because Anna's graduation was next week and they still didn't have everything planned. I encouraged them to go. They needed a break from their stress. I was 21 and happy. I could handle finishing Anna's graduation party," Elsa explained. "It was a stormy night. They lost control of the car and crashed into the ditch. I got a call in the middle of the night telling me my parents were declared dead at the scene." She cried.
Jack quickly wrapped his arms around her and brought her into a hug. He never knew what happened. "You don't have to finish." Jack mumbled as he rubbed her back, something her father used to do. He felt terrible for making her tell her tale of woe.
Elsa looked up at him and knew she had to finished. "Well anyways, instead of having a graduation party next week, Anna had a funeral. I didn't show up, afraid of what I caused. I spent most of my days in my room at Anna's house. She always tried to encourage me to come and talk with her, but I couldn't. I can't look her in the eyes and tell her it's my fault our parents couldn't come to her graduation, that they couldn't watch her get married." Elsa cried. The tears were stinging her eyes.
"Elsa, that's not your fault. It's no one's fault. What happened to your parents was an accident. What happened to you and Anna sucked, but you have to let it go. You can't give yourself credit for something you couldn't possible do." Jack comforted as he held a sobbing Elsa in his arms. For once, she felt safe and secure. She let herself go and allowed the tears the flow. She forgot about the world and thought about Jack's warming hug and his comforting kiss to her head. She wasn't one who wanted to be hugged or pitied, but today, she liked it.
~Rapunzel and Eugene~
Eugene groaned awake as the sun shined into his eyes. He sat up and stretched in their bed. He felt refreshed and overall happy. He wasn't much of a morning person, but today was an exception. He got out of bed and walked by his sleeping wife. Her brown hair was sprawled everywhere. He pushed it out of her face and gently planted a kiss on her cheek. She smiled and cuddled closer to her pillow. He chuckled and left to take his shower.
What the hell is wrong with me? I'm not suppose to like her. The plan was to leave her after a year. Eugene thought as he rinsed off his hair. He was confused by his new found feeling for Rapunzel. He never felt this way with other girls. To him, she was something different. She acted sincere and actually trusted him. He was the bad boy, the one your parents told you stay away from. He was the player, using you for his own pleasure. And he was that way. Was. Now that he met her, he wanted to change for the better. But just because you want to change, doesn't mean others will see you differently.
Rapunzel woke up to the sound of country music. She smiled as she heard a familiar voice singing along. Eugene rarely sings, which she considered selfish because his voice was stupendous. His voice blended perfectly with the guitar. Rapunzel could only focus her hearing on his singing. She didn't care if he fumbled up the verses or was off pitch. To her, it was like he was star.
The shower shut off and Rapunzel quickly shut her eyes. Eventually, Eugene walked out of the bathroom. Rapunzel squinted one of her green eyes, trying to see what he was doing. "I know you're awake." Eugene spoke. Rapunzel sighed and sat up.
"How did you know?" She asked. His back was facing her so he couldn't have seen her move.
"You never sleep past nine," Eugene smiled as Rapunzel frowned. He was right, she couldn't force herself to sleep late, even after being awake all night. "Plus as I was walking past you you stopped breathing." He chuckled.
"I did not." Rapunzel argued. She couldn't remember stopping her breathing. Must have been a natural instinct.
"Did to," Eugene chuckled as sat beside her on the bed. She playfully frowned and shoved him. "Oww!" Eugene laughed.
"Oh come on. That did not hurt." Rapunzel grinned as she crossed her arms. Eugene couldn't help but smile back at her. She was almost glowing in beauty even through she hadn't done anything with her hair or makeup.
He laid down on the bed close to her. She followed suit and laid her head on his shoulder. "I heard you singing." Rapunzel spoke up. Eugene tilted his head down to look at her. Her green eyes shined bright as she gazed into his brown ones.
"Really?" He replied. She nodded her head, showing she was being honest. "Did your ears bled?" He asked.
Rapunzel giggled and shook her head no. "Of course not. It was wonderful." Rapunzel smiled and gave him a kiss. He smirked and rolled his eyes.
"You sure you're not still drunk?" He teased. Eugene really didn't think he was that great of a singer. He wasn't really fond of it either. He raised that singing was for wimps. Kids that couldn't play sports sang in the school choir.
"I'm positive. If I was, do you think I'd be able to speak full sentences?" Rapunzel giggled. Eugene smiled and shook his head. Rapunzel looked at Eugene and felt...different. When she was with Jason, she didn't feel happy. She felt like she always had to live up to his standards, like she was constantly being judged by him. It was her fault if the bills weren't paid on time. She was in the wrong if she didn't have supper ready for him by the time he got home. With Eugene, it was the complete opposite. He was the one who apologized after their fight.
Eugene twirled her hair around his fingers. She seemed deep in thought, not noticing the little braids he made in her hair. Her mouth twitched as she stared out the window. She looked confused, but who wasn't? Most of them went into this trial thinking they probably wouldn't find 'the one.' Everyone was told they had less than a fifty percent chance of making this work, and yet, it was happening. He was falling for the green eyed, small town girl. "Rap, do you ever feel confused about yourself?"
"Yeah, it happens more than you would think." She answered. Eugene seemed like he was confident about his ideas and himself. Why would he be confused? Rapunzel thought.
"Like when?" He persisted. He had to know if she felt as lost as him. They were complete opposites of each other, but something about her amazed him.
"To be honest, now," She mumbled as she grabbed his hand. He rubbed his fingers over the back of her hand trying to give her comfort. "Eugene, I'm scared." She confessed. Eugene glanced at her, surprised by her response.
"Of what?"
"My head and my heart are telling me two completely opposite answers. Which am I supposed to listen to?" She frowned.
"Your gut," He answered. She shot him look, telling him she wasn't in the mood for jokes. "I'm being serious. Your gut always has the right answers. Your brain and your heart will always fight, trying to make you pick a side. Are you emotional or reasonable? In the end, you have to make the choice, but when you need some help, always look to your gut." Eugene advised.
"Okay." She smiled. At that moment, she made her choice. She was going to let herself fall for the troubled, country singing man.
~Merida and Hiccup~
Merida rolled over, covering her face with her pillow. The sun brightly shined through the window causing her pain. She had wayy too much to drink last night and she was regretting it.
Hiccup woke up with a mouth full of red curls. He quickly spat them out, disgusted with the thought of eating hair in his sleep. He opened his evergreen eyes and was blinded by the gleaming rays from the sun high in the sky. He forced himself out of the bed to shut the shades. He dragged the curtains across the windows to hide the beautiful scenery. He plopped back into the bed.
"Thanks, Hic." Merida muttered. She was grateful for someone as determined as him to get out of the warm bed to shut the shades.
"No problem," He answered. Merida flipped onto her other side so she could look at Hiccup. His hair was shaggier than usual, his freckles popped out at her. "Didn't know you were awake."
"Ah, well. There's a lot of things you don't know about me." Merida smirked. Hiccup stared into her brilliant blue eyes that reminded him of his mother's tales of will o' the wisps. They drew him close, almost leading him towards her lips, but he stopped himself, knowing the consequences.
"Isn't that the truth?" Hiccup chuckled as he ruffed his hair. Merida wanted to stare longer at his face, studying what made Hiccup, well, Hiccup. But her headache became worse. She always had the worst hangovers. She groaned and brought her hands to her temples, violently rubbing them. "You okay?" Hiccup asked, becoming worried about her. He had hangovers, but never that bad.
"Yeah, I'm good." Merida lied. Hiccup frowned, thinking about what he could do to make her feel better.
"Why don't I go downstairs and get you some aspirin?" Hiccup offered. Merida nodded her head, almost begging him to.
"Please." Merida mumbled. Hiccup sympathetically smiled and quickly grabbed a twenty from his wallet. He sped down the stairs, almost crashing into Eugene, who was carrying a plate full of food.
"Well, well, well. Looks like you aren't dead," He teased. Hiccup rolled his eyes and sped past. "A hello would have done just fine!" Eugene called as Hiccup rounded the corner. He ran down to the counter, pounding the bell at the desk. Immediately, he regretted it as it gave him a migraine.
"Aloha! What can I do you for you, sir?" The secretary asked. She had a lei around her neck and wrists. She was very tan and had long, dark hair.
"Do you happen to sell anything like aspirin?" Hiccup questioned. He nervously tapped the counter. He wanted her to hurry up, but he was a polite gentleman so he would wait patiently.
"Let me check," She responded. She swayed her hips to the music as she danced away. Hiccup loved this vacation, but he was happy they were leaving tomorrow. He wanted to be back with people who didn't act like they were living in their own world. She eventually came back with two bottles of aspirin. "That will be ten dollars." She smiled.
Hiccup groaned, knowing he was probably paying too much, but he was desperate. He payed her the money and quickly ran off, but not without thanking her. He impatiently pressed the elevator button, wanting it to hurry up. When it opened, he was met face to face with Kristoff and Anna. "Hiccup!" Anna squealed.
Her pitch voice rang in his ears, bringing back his headache. "Hey Anna. Hi Kristoff." Hiccup flinched.
"Damn, you look awful." Kristoff chuckled. Kristoff was one to speak his mind, even if it wasn't polite. But hey, honesty is the best policy, right? Kristoff received a jab to the gut and a glare from Anna. She didn't like when people swore.
"And I feel ten times worse." Hiccup mumbled. Kristoff slapped him on the back. Kristoff usually didn't drink till he was passed out, so he really couldn't give Hiccup any advice.
"Well, at least you were the king of shots." Kristoff smirked. Hiccup rolled his eyes, not being able to remember anything.
"I highly doubt that." Hiccup chuckled. He didn't really like the taste of alcohol, especially straight and strong. There was no possible way he could have been 'king of shots'.
"It's true! You, Jack, Rapunzel, and Merida all had a shots competition. You bet them by one shot. You were the king!" Anna cheered. She was proud of Hiccup, showing that he wasn't just some nerd, but he could accomplish anything, even a competition with Merida and Jack.
"Oh boy," Hiccup mumbled. Anna never lied, so it had to be true. Eventually, they parted ways as Hiccup jogged back to their room. He had left the door open a smidgen. He let himself in and shut the door. "Hey Meri." Hiccup whispered.
"What?" She asked as she flipped over. Her hand swung back, slapping Hiccup across the face.
"Oww!" He whined as he rubbed his hand over his face. Merida quickly sat up, surprised at what she did.
"Oh my god! I'm so sorry, Hic!" Merida quickly apologized. She didn't mean to slap him across his face.
"It's fine, I'm okay," Hiccup assured. Merida didn't look convinced. She immediately reached over and kissed his cheek. He blushed a deep red and handed her the bottle. "Here's the aspirin."
"Thanks Hic." She smiled. He gave her a glass of water so she could swallow it. Eventually, they both laid down on the bed, neither saying anything.
"So, want to see what's on the tv?" Hiccup asked. Merida agreed and turned on the flat screen. Immediately, she saw that one of her favorite movies was going to come on.
"I love this movie."
"I love this book." Hiccup stated the same time as Merida. They looked at each other surprised.
"You've seen this movie?" Merida asked. She couldn't picture Hiccup going to the movie theaters to watch the Hunger Games.
"Well I've read it, I haven't actually watched it," He stuttered. "You've read this?"
"No, I've only seen it." Merida replied.
"You should read the book. It's so great." Hiccup exclaimed.
"You should watch this. She's one of the best archers I can think of. Even if she isn't real." Merida smiled. She loved Katniss Everdeen. She was Merida's role model, even though she's fictional.
"Have you seen Divergent? I've read the books, but I haven't been able to watch the movies. Rumor has it that the movies have grown farther and farther away from the books." Hiccup chuckled.
"Seriously? Man, I thought the movies were perfect. They were so great! Trish is amazing!" Merida fangirled. Hiccup and Merida cuddled up together, watching the Hunger Games, each making deals to read and watch the movies.
~Anna and Kristoff~
"Come on you slow poke!" Anna shouted as she waved Kristoff to her.
"Anna, people are looking." Kristoff mumbled. She was standing on the bench, trying to get a look at something in the distance.
"Let them look," Anna smiled. Kristoff rolled his eyes and chuckled. Anna was something special. She had the energy of a six year old. Kristoff didn't want to see what would happen if she was given anything with caffeine. "Get up here!" She shouted as she grabbed his hand. She pulled him up and pointed off into the distance.
"What?" He questioned as he squinted his eyes. He couldn't see what she was so excited about. The water was shining into his eyes, making it even more difficult to see.
"See that boat?" She asked. Kristoff nodded, watching the little boat conquer the huge waves of the Pacific. "We're getting on that." She smiled.
"Who? What? Where? When? Why?" Kristoff scrambled. Anna and him never planned this! When did she even have time do all this and keep it a secret? Anna was a blabber mouth to say the least.
"Us. We're going on that boat. Here. In a half hour. Because it sounds awesome!" Anna quickly answered as she stared off at the sea. "And I'm pretty sure you forget how." Anna smirked. She was super excited to go on that little boat.
"Fine. How?" Kristoff groaned.
"We walk to the end of that dock and they'll pick us up." Anna smiled. She grasped his hand and grabbed him towards the dock. Kristoff looked nervous as he walked across the old, wooden dock. He wasn't great when it came to swimming. As his many siblings would say, 'He would sink like a rock!' and it was true.
"What are we doing on this boat trip?" Kristoff asked as he stared at his reflection in the water. His hands started getting clammy and his throat was tightening up. The thought of being out at sea was making his heartbeat faster and faster.
"Dolphin watching." Anna grinned. She's always wanted to see a dolphin in person. Anna has always been fascinated by marine mammals, so a dolphin was on the top of her list of favorite animals.
"Sounds like fun." Kristoff weakly smiled. He really was trying to be positive about the ride, but the thought of getting thrown overboard frighten him. Eventually, the small boat docked. The tourists walked off like it was nothing. They were all jabbering about the creatures they saw and which ones they wished they had. Just one step at a time. Kristoff encouraged himself as they walked onto the gray boat.
"Ooo! I'm so excited!" Anna squealed.
"Calm down." Kristoff softly replied. Life jackets were passed around to the passengers. Everyone put theirs on for safety precautions. Slowly but surely, they left the dock. Anna and Kristoff sat down by the side of the boat. Kristoff closed his eyes and pretended to be back on land.
"Kristoff, you don't look okay. Are you getting sick?" Anna asked as she placed her hand over his forehead. He became extremely pale once they left the dock. First he quickly tells me to calm down, then he gets sick. Somethings up. Anna thought. From past experiences with Elsa, Anna gently placed her hand over Kristoff. "Kristoff, what's going on?"
"It's nothing. Just a little sea sick." Kristoff lied. He didn't want to ruin Anna's dolphin experience. This was a once in a lifetime experience. He figured he could just play it off and let her run free on the boat, but it swayed too much. It made him grip the sides of the boat. He wished to be on land, safe from the waves of terror that haunted him every time it splashed into their boat.
"Kristoff, can you talk to me, please?" Anna pleaded. Kristoff opened his eyes and looked at her. Her orange life jacket was too big on her, pushing her cheeks up. It made him want to laugh, but the water traumatized him.
"Anna, it will sound silly." Kristoff softly mumbled. Anna was used to that line.
"Anna, this is silly." Elsa frowned as they sat down in the couch.
"Come on, Elsa! Admit it. We need some sister bonding time." She begged. Elsa had been shutting her out after their parents death. Anna just wanted to talk with someone who knew what she was going through. The first person she thought of was Elsa. After hours of coaxing her out of her room, she led Elsa into the living room.
"Fine, what do you want to talk about?" Elsa questioned.
"Could you possibly sign my papers to let me go to Germany?" Anna smiled. Her graduating class was taking a trip to Germany. Only a select few were chosen every year to go on this trip. Of course Anna got to go because the school felt terrible for her lose. Anna knew that she wouldn't have got to go otherwise.
"You want to leave me too?" Elsa cried with tears stinging her eyes. Anna was quick to bring her sister into a hug.
"Elsa! Elsa! It's not like that at all. I love you with all my heart. That's why I want you to sign the guardian signature instead of Aunt Sarah." Anna explained. She could understand that her sister though that, but Anna could never leave her sister.
"Okay. But you better come back." Elsa teased, although Anna knew she was serious.
"Kristoff, things I say are silly," Anna teased. He looked down, unsure what to say. "Please?" Anna asked with her saddest face. Kristoff looked at it and knew he couldn't say no.
"I'm terrified of drowning." He flinched. There. He said it. Now his buff image was gone. Now he was someone who was afraid, someone who wasn't fearless or brave. Now she could make fun of him all she wanted.
"Oh Kristoff, why didn't you say anything? If you were scared off drowning, we didn't have to go on this." Anna comforted. She didn't want him to be uncomfortable and now she was forcing him to something that scared him. She should have asked for his permission before signing them up.
"Anna, this is your dream. I couldn't wreck it." Kristoff frowned. He didn't want to ruin this trip from her. She loved marine animals so seeing a dolphin would absolutely make her day.
"Kristoff, you couldn't possible wreck my dream," Anna smiled. It was true. Her dream was to met the man of her dreams, who happened to be right beside her. "Can we talk about his fear? Like, why are you afraid? When are you afraid?"
"Sure, I mean, why not? It will help stop thinking about it, right? Anyways, I've just never been able to swim. I only get afraid mostly when I can't touch. Funny, right?" Kristoff chuckled as he ruffled his hair. Now he was afraid of heights and drowning. It's like she can't bring him anywhere.
"So what do you do at swimming pools or on the lake?" Anna questioned.
"Pools don't scare me because I can see the bottom, plus there's life guards. Umm, at the lake the waves aren't too bad so I just use a floaty." Kristoff explained.
"Tourists! If you look over the starboard side, you can see a pack of dolphins passing by!" Immediately, Kristoff and Anna sprang up and ran to the other end of the ship. They looked over and watched the dolphins swimming by. Eventually, Kristoff became used to the setting, his fear lowering.
