First night
~Rapunzel and Eugene~
"Okay, we don't know much about each other. So, let's talk." Rapunzel said, trying not to make it awkward as they got ready in the bathroom. She didn't really feel comfortable around Eugene.
"Okay." Eugene replied as he brushed his teeth. The little brunette only reached up to his shoulders. She seemed fidgety, almost as if she was nervous around him.
"What's your favorite type of genre?" She asked. She's been trying to talk to Eugene all day and now was the first time he's agreed. She wanted to know who the real Eugene was.
"Like for music? Movies?" He asked. He didn't really want to open up to Rapunzel. But, if he was going to live with this girl, he knew they would have to talk with each other.
"Both." She replied. She was willing to know anything.
"I like country music and comedies." He answered. Eugene was a country boy at heart. If you gave him guitar and a truck he would be the happiest man on earth.
"Now you can ask me any question." Rapunzel smiled. She was happy to at least know what he likes to listen to and watch. It was at least something.
"Why did you cut your hair and why did you dye it?" He asked. Eugene wasn't one to hold back questions. He didn't care if they were too personal. He would blurt out anything he wanted and he didn't care what everyone thought.
"How did you know that?" She asked, gently tugging on her hair. She never told him that she dyed her hair. How could this man she met two days ago know so much about her?
"Rapunzel, we're living in your parents' house. They have pictures of you as a baby everywhere and you have blonde hair, not brown." He said as he flossed his teeth. Rapunzel was surprised that he took care in his personal hygiene and how he paid attention to the pictures on the walls.
"Right. I cut my hair because I was sick of it getting all over my face and I dyed my hair because I could." She said, her cheeks heating up. She figured her reasons were stupid.
"Because you could?" He asked.
"My parents always told me I couldn't dye my hair because I was too young and I didn't know what I wanted. So to prove them wrong, I cut my hair and dyed it." She explained. She was happy that he was showing interest in her life, so she was going to answer all his questions.
"So you're kind of rebellious?" Eugene smirked. Rapunzel looked like the kind of girl who always did what she was told, even if she was against it. Being told she did something because her parents told her she couldn't didn't seem like her.
"I guess. Okay, so what do you do?" Rapunzel asked. She wanted to know what to expect for their income.
"I'm a journalist in the local paper. What do you do?" He asked. Eugene didn't think his job wasn't anything important. If she really wanted to know, he would tell her.
"I work at the bank." Rapunzel smiled. It wasn't her dream job, but it was something to earn money, which she was kind of short of right now.
"What hours do you work?" Eugene asked.
"Hey, you asked two questions in a row!" She smiled as she playfully pushed him.
"Sorry, just answer the question." Eugene said as they shut off the bathroom light. They walked into Rapunzel's bedroom and sat on her bed. Eugene was actually happier in her basement than where he used to be living. It was horrid to be sleeping under the roof of someone who despised you, even though you did nothing wrong.
"I work from 9 to 6. You?" Rapunzel asked.
"8-ish to 5-ish."
"When do you have your lunch break?" Rapunzel hoped his would be the same as hers so she could have lunch with him. She had to know more about her husband.
"Now you asked two questions in a row!" Eugene teased. Eugene was letting himself go, showing off his fun side. He wasn't just an annoying killjoy.
"Oh well, just give me your answer." She smiled as she laid on her stomach on the bed.
"Noon to 1." Eugene chuckled.
"Oh my, God! That's when I have my lunch break! Do you want to meet up and have lunch?" She exclaimed. She didn't notice that she was showing Eugene her happy, playfully personality. Whether Eugene would admit or not, he's always liked those kind of people.
"Now you've asked three questions! When will I get to ask some questions?" Eugene playfully sighed as he rolled his eyes.
"You'll get your turn!" She laughed.
"Sure, let's meet for lunch. Want to meet at that cafe down the street?" He asked. Eugene usually ate there by himself. He would read through his articles over and over again, trying to find ways to fix it. He was a perfectionist when it came to himself.
"Sure! Okay, do you-" Rapunzel started but was cut off by Eugene putting his hand over her mouth.
"It's my turn to ask a question." He said with a grin. He moved his hand, ready to ask the next question. "Which side of the bed do you want?" He asked. Rapunzel looked down, sad that he wanted to go to bed. But she understood. They both had work early in the morning and this was the first time they've actually talked. He wasn't going to spill everything in one night.
Eugene noticed her sudden sadness and couldn't help but try to make her feel better. "What's wrong?" He asked. Why am I feeling sorry for her? I'm just going to divorce her after a year anyways. Eugene thought.
"I was having fun and don't want to go to bed yet." She frowned.
"I was just wondering so we could get on our side of the bed. I don't want to go to sleep just yet, I mean, it's only 10:30." He said.
"Okay! I'll take the left side!" She cheered as she crawled over Eugene. He shut off the light and they crawled under the blankets. "Why did you shut off the lights?" She asked.
"Because people spill more about themselves when they can't see the other person." Eugene replied. Rapunzel had to agree with him.
"Okay, so what's your family like?" Rapunzel asked. This was a question Eugene wasn't ready to answer. He's had a bad past with his family. They've never understood him. His parents loved him, but it wasn't like Rapunzel's love. They didn't do the little things like her parents. His parents didn't offer anything for him when he was going through his troubled years. They didn't even offer any money to Rapunzel and him when they got married.
"I'd rather not talk about them yet." Eugene mumbled. Rapunzel understood. She had plenty of friends who wouldn't tell her about their pasts. But he would have to tell her soon, after all, he was her husband.
"Okay." She yawned.
"What time are you getting up tomorrow?"
"Probably around seven."
"Okay. You better not take long showers. I'll get up around 7:15." Eugene said as he rolled over.
"I don't. Goodnight." Rapunzel said. It felt weird sleeping in a bed with a complete stranger.
"Goodnight." Eugene replied. He didn't feel awkward sleeping in a bed with a compete stranger. I mean, he was used to it, but he wasn't used to waking up with her still there in the morning.
~Anna and Kristoff~
"I want the left side of the bed!" Anna shouted.
"Look, we can take turns. Every other night we trade. One night I get the right side, the next night I get the left." Kristoff compromised. They had been arguing about this for the past ten minutes and they were getting sick of each other. Kristoff had been coming up with ideas while Anna shot them down.
"That's stupid! Let's pick one side and be done with it!" Anna pouted. She was angry that he wanted the same side as her. Everything was going so well but this little, tiny problem was ruining everything.
"I know it's stupid! I was just trying to make a compromise." Kristoff groaned. He couldn't believe that this was the problem that was messing everything up.
"Got any more brilliant plans?" She huffed as she sat on the left side of the bed. Kristoff knew she wouldn't give up and someone had to be the bigger person.
"I'll take the right side of the bed." He sighed as he rolled into bed. He just wanted to go to sleep. Today had been a long day.
"What time do you have to work tomorrow?" Anna asked as she took the left side. Kristoff worked for a big construction company. He was always doing the hard stuff, earning more cash than the people who didn't want to get their hands dirty. Anna on the other hand worked for the local pet shelter. She wasn't earning the type of money Kristoff was, but it was still a lot.
"I have to be at work by 9." Kristoff replied grumpily.
"I have to be to work by 7:30. So I guess I'll get up earlier than you." Anna said.
"Yeah." Kristoff answered.
"We don't know a lot about each other. What's your favorite color?" Anna asked, trying to forget their fight. She wanted to move past the whole thing.
"White." He said. He really didn't want to talk about themselves right now. He wanted to go to sleep.
"White?" She asked. White was such a boring color.
"Yes, it remembers me of snow." He said.
"So, do you like winter?" She persisted. She was getting annoyed at his short answers.
"I guess." He grumbled. Suddenly, he was being very distant with Anna and she didn't like it. She felt like she was talking to a brick wall. She wanted the first guy she met back.
"Look, I don't have time for this right now. Goodnight." She huffed, rolling away from him. She needed her rest and if Kristoff wasn't going to open up then why bother talking to him.
"Goodnight." Kristoff answered back as he shut off the lamp, putting them in total darkness, hoping the morning would be better.
~Merida and Hiccup~
Hiccup had made them dinner and cleared the table. He was the more mature of the two. He knew Merida didn't want him around but he wasn't going to let that stop him from getting what he wanted. His soul mate. And right now, that happened to be the aggressive redhead sitting on the couch. "Look, Merida, I know you don't want me around-" Hiccup started.
"Ya think?" Merida cut him off, making him roll his eyes. She had been trying all day to show him that. Every chance she got she shut him down by talking over him or not listening to him. She just wanted to be alone,
"But we need to get past that. We're going to be married for a year and we need to learn about each other." He said. Merida knew he was right, but she didn't want to do this now. She wanted to watch her show and forget about him.
"Can't I finish my show first?" She asked. Hiccup took the remote from her and shut off the tv. He sat down beside her on the couch, trying make conversation.
"Let's talk. What kind of stuff are you interested in?" He asked. He wanted to know more about her, not The Walking Dead, even though it was his favorite show.
"Archery." She sighed, leaning her head into her hand. She did not want to do this right. She was in the middle of a marathon! Was he insane?
"Okay, what kind of job do you have?" He asked. He wanted to know when he needed to wake up and when she would rise from the dead. Just by looking at her, she seemed like the type of person to sleep past noon and waste the day.
"I work at the grocery store. I know, laugh at me." Merida scoffed, rolling her eyes. Merida's parents, well mother, had always been embarrassed by her job. They wanted her to make good money in a fancy job, but Merida didn't want that. She didn't even know what she wanted. But Hiccup didn't care. He just wanted to know what she did and how much she earned.
"It's okay. What time do you work?" He continued. He just wanted to know more about her, not judge her. He couldn't care less if she was the Vice President or working at the dump. All that matter was that he knew.
"Typical work hours. I'm the manager." She said. She was not impressed with her job. She wanted to change the subject, getting the topic off work. This was humiliating.
"So like 9 to 5?" He asked. He wanted to know if they would be gone the same time everyday. Then they could plan who would do what each night.
"Yes! What do you do?" Merida fired back. She wanted the topic off of her. Just by looking at Hiccup, she figured he would be on the city council or a high status job. Her job wouldn't compare to his.
"I'm a history teacher at the elementary school." He said. Where they lived, their state had one of the lowest paying salaries for teachers. It was enough for a single person, but not enough to support both of them.
"Do you like kids?" Merida asked. She's always wanted a little girl with her curls. Maybe not with Hiccup, but she's always wanted a child. She wanted to teach them about archery and raise them her way.
"Yeah, they're the sweetest things. And they come up with the best stories." Hiccup rambled. Merida smiled, glad that at least he liked kids. Most guys were okay with them or considered them annoying.
"What's your full name?" Merida asked, raising her eyebrow. She was curious about him. He was different, something that she would have looked past if she was choosing her own spouse.
"Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the third." He chuckled, his cheeks heating up. His name was awful, but it was some stupid Viking tradition. His parents were both immigrants from Scotland decades ago.
"Well, that's a mouth full." Merida chuckled. Soon, they got ready for bed. Hiccup walked into the bedroom, waiting for Merida so she could pick her side. "What are you doing in here?" Merida asked, surprised to him sitting on her bed.
"I'm waiting for you to pick your side of the bed." Hiccup replied. He wasn't going to just hop into bed and hope he picked the right side. That was a risky move, especially with an aggressive redhead.
"Oh no. No. You are sleeping on the couch. I'm not sharing a bed with a complete stranger!" Merida exclaimed as she shoved him out the door. She pushed against his back, pushing her feet against the floor to move him.
"I'm your husband. If we want this marriage to last we're going to have to sleep in the same bed." Hiccup argued as she pushed him towards the living room. Merida knew he was right, again. But she wasn't going to spend the first night with him. She would rather wait a week or so.
"Can't we wait?" Merida sighed. Hiccup could tell that she wasn't used to having to share things. He also noticed how uncomfortable she became when he asked. Maybe things were moving too fast for her. She had been used to the single life and this was very overwhelming.
"Sure. But where am I going to sleep?" Hiccup asked. Merida smiled and grabbed a blanket, a pillow, and a sheet. She ran into the living room and set the supplies on the couch.
"You get the couch. Now, goodnight." She said as she walked back to her bedroom. She was thankful that he was willing to do this tonight. She wasn't in the mood to argue with him and the thought of sleep next to a complete stranger absolutely terrified her and nothing scared her.
"Goodnight." Hiccup muttered. He knew this was better than the floor but not by a long shot. He knew they still had to warm up to each other but he kinda hoped it would move faster than this.
~Elsa and Jack~
"Look, I don't care what you want for dinner. I'm making it and you're going to eat it." Elsa grumbled as she stirred the soup she made on the stove. Jack had been driving her nuts. Asking if he could do this or that. He spent the last half hour begging Elsa to make him some food. And now here he was complaining about what he was getting for dinner.
"Why couldn't we have pizza?" Jack whined. He wanted to get on Elsa's nerves and he knew he was doing a good job. Jack was hoping they would go over the bumps first. Then the rest of the year would be easy.
"Because I'm making soup, that's why." Elsa said. She knew she sounded grumpier than an eighty year old man telling the neighbor kids to get off his lawn, but that was the only way she could talk to Jack. She prayed that the man she would marry would be mature and responsible. Jack was the complete opposite. He wasn't mature at all. All day, he had been playing tricks on her. Jack wasn't responsible either. He had already lost the remote to the tv twice and it's only the second day.
"Okay, Mrs. Frost." Jack smirked. He knew Elsa hated being called that. He knew she didn't want to be married to him, but this was done by professionals so they had to be the right match, right? Even if they were polar opposites, they must have been matched for a reason.
"Don't call me that." She said as she began to stir faster. Cooking always made her feel better, but right now, he was ruining the experience. She wanted to stuff her face into the soup. No, better yet, stuff his face into the boiling hot soup. Then maybe he would shut up for once!
"Why? It's your name, isn't it?" He teased as he strutted behind her. She groaned and tightly gripped the spoon. She wanted to snap it in half, but she couldn't let her anger get the best of her. She was better than that.
"Do you think the other couples are getting onto each other's nerves this much?" She asked, ignoring the question Jack asked her.
"I don't know. Maybe. I guess we'll find out when we meet them. Anyways, when are we meeting them?" He asked. He really did want to know if the other couples were getting along or if they all got married. He wanted to know their personalities compared to their significant other.
"Wednesday night." Elsa answered. She had to admit, she was excited for that night. She was also wondering who got married and with who. She wanted to know if she was the only one stuck with an immature husband.
"I can't wait. Anyways, what type of job do you have?" He asked. He knew it had to be something big and important based on how fancy her apartment was. He knew she was in the upper class.
"I'm a fashion designer." She said. She didn't really think Jack would ask a good question like that. All day he's been asking her stupid, unimportant questions. Like, 'Why is your cat a girl?' or, 'Is this really your sister?'
"Cool. I'm the manger at a car dealership." He nodded. Jack knew it wasn't anything to be proud of since his dad owned the company so he was basically given the job just by being born.
"Really? Well, that's nice." Elsa stated as she placed the soup onto the table. She gave them each a bowl and a spoon. They ate their dinner in silence, well, Elsa did. Jack slurped his soup like a child, annoying Elsa. Soon, they got ready for bed. Jack violently brushed his teeth as Elsa gently brushed her hair. "I'm getting up at six tomorrow." She said.
"But I have to be at work by 7:30." Jack said. He knew he would have to show up on time if he wanted to keep his job. Well, if he wanted to keep his promotion. He would actually have to try to get fired. He could show up an hour late and still have his job.
"I have two bathrooms. One in your room and one in mine. We can shower at the same time." She explained as she packed up her stuff. She left her makeup bag out this morning and she didn't like things a mess so she decided to pick it up.
"Wait. Wait. My room? Don't we share a room?" Jack asked. He knew that if they didn't spend the first night together, they might never sleep together. This was something they had to do so things wouldn't be awkward.
"Yes, your room. I'm not sleeping in the same bed with a complete stranger. That would be awkward and weird." She said. She didn't want to stay in the same room as Jack, let alone the same bed. She knew they would have to eventually, but not this first night.
"We have to sleep together, we're husband and wife!" Jack exclaimed. He was so confused at why she would shut him out. After talking to her all day, you would think she would be comfortable sleeping in the same bed as him.
"We can sleep together when I find out what the other couples are doing. Until then, your room is down the hall and to the left." Elsa replied. Jack knew there was no way she would change her mind. He dragged his stuff to his room and finished getting ready in there. He went to bed early, knowing that tomorrow would be rough.
