Dinner
~Rapunzel and Eugene~
"Thanks, Eugene. Now we're going to be late." Rapunzel blamed as she sped down the highway towards Burgess. She was angry with him. Eugene spent more time getting ready than her.. He probably spent an hour plus just fixing his hair.
"Well, sorry that I want to actually look good in front of everyone else." Eugene scoffed. He pulled down the mirror to make sure his hair was still perfect. He slightly pull a few strand to the side. He tussled it up a bit, giving it a nice style.
"If there's anyone else." Rapunzel replied. But Eugene knew there was three other couples. He also knew each of their names and where they were from. When Rapunzel and him got married, he saw the other files laying on the desk. He just happened to take a peek. It also helped that he knew each and every single one of their families. It helps being a journalist. But Rapunzel was nervous about tonight. She wanted to know if anyone else was going through the same hardships.
"Of course, there will be. And what's this junk you're listening to?" Eugene asked as he changed the channel. He couldn't stand what she was last listening to. He quickly picked his favorite channel.
Little bit of chicken fried, cold beer on a Friday night-
"It's called pop and it's wonderful." Rapunzel replied as she changed it back. She rolled her eyes and slapped his hand away.
If I was you, I'd wanna be me, too. I'd wanna be me, too. I'd wanna be me-
Eugene glared at her and changed it back. He was not going to listen to that for the rest of the ride. It almost made his ears bleed.
Salute the ones who died and the ones that gave their lives so we don't have to sacrifice all the things we-
"I'm the driver. I get to pick what we listen to." Rapunzel argued as she turned it back to her channel. She was becoming annoyed of Eugene. His constant nitpicking almost drove her insane.
"Well, I'm the passenger so I should get to pick what we listen to. You should be paying attention to the road, not the music." Eugene reasoned as he changed it back to his country channel. He crossed his arms and looked out the window, acting like a child.
"You know what. I don't even care." Rapunzel mumbled as she drove past Burgess sign. She didn't want to come into dinner arguing. It would bring a bad mood to the group, giving them a bad reputation.
"Yes, you do." He teased. He wanted to make the situations light again. He didn't really like her when she was mad. She acted like she would slit your throat and drink your blood.
"No, I don't." She denied.
"Come on. Not even a little?" Eugene smiled as he pinched his fingers and squinted one of his eyes. Rapunzel rolled her eyes.
"Okay, maybe just a little." Rapunzel giggled, a light blush forming on her cheeks.
~Elsa and Jack~
They were standing inside the restaurant, waiting for everyone to show up. Elsa knew Anna would be coming for sure. She wasn't sure if anyone else would through, since it was a Wednesday night. "What time is everyone supposed to be here?" Jack asked.
"Around 7:30." Elsa replied. She was nervous about meeting all these new people. Soon, she saw a familiar redhead walk through the door. Elsa thanked her lucky stars Anna came first.
"Elsa!" She cried as she ran to give her a hug. Anna tightly squeezed her sister, happy to finally see her again.
"Anna, it's been too long!" Elsa laughed as she brushed her sister's braids off her shoulders. Her baby sister looked happy and well. She looked very nice tonight in her fancy dress.
"Tell me about it. It's be like three days!" Anna giggled. She looked at her big sister, dressed in a newly designed dress. Anna figured Elsa made it a couple months ago and decided to wear it tonight. It was one of a kind.
"So you're the famous Anna." Jack smirked. Elsa had told Jack many things about Anna. Her happy go lucky personality made her seem like a good sister-in-law for Jack. She seemed like someone who he could tease and she wouldn't get too upset.
"The one and only!" Anna smiled as she stood next to a tall blonde. Anna hadn't heard much about Jack. From the two or three phone calls from Elsa, he seemed... difficult. He sounded like a curious four year old. He was always asking questions.
"And you are?" Jack asked. Jack looked up to the man. Jack was 5'9", but this man made him feel tiny. He was built like tree stump. He had muscles on his muscles.
"Kristoff. You?" The blonde asked as he gave his hand out for a handshake. Kristoff know didn't much about Jack. Anna hardly told him anything about them, well, except Elsa. Anna could babbler on and on about Elsa all day.
"Jack, and that is Elsa." Jack smiled as he took Kristoff's hand. He let out a small cry as Kristoff tightly shook Jack's hand. Elsa looked towards the door and saw a girl with huge, red curls.
"Are any of you married at first sight?" She asked. She stood tall and confident. Her piercing blue eyes shined in the light. Beside her, a brunette a little taller than her stood admiring the place. He had his hands in his pockets.
"All of us are." Anna chuckled. Anna couldn't wait to meet everyone. She loved making friends. She felt like Elsa and the red head would hit it off. They seemed independent.
"Good, so are we." The brunette smiled. Elsa had to admit, he was kind of attractive. He looked very intelligent and responsible, not to mention his gorgeous green eyes. They all waited until about 7:45 to take a table, making sure that everyone was there.
"Is this all?" The waiter asked. Everyone nodded their heads, hoping they were right,
"I think so." Jack replied. Jack hoped that the last couple wouldn't be angry if they got a table without them. They sat down at a table and felt awkward. No one knew what to say. Suddenly, a man and woman ran up to their table.
"Sorry, we're late! Princess over here had to make sure his hair was perfect." The woman exclaimed as she pointed to the man. He rolled his eyes. Jack had to admit, he thought she was cute with her emerald green eyes.
"You can't blame everything on me. You're the one who missed the turn." The man chuckled as he received a light elbow from the woman. Elsa considered him attractive with his handsome jaw line. They sat down at the table and everyone was confused who they were. The women sat on one side of the table across from their husbands.
"Are you guys from the show or..." Anna trailed as she was trying to make sure they sat down with the right people. I mean, wouldn't it be awkward to sit at the wrong table?
"Yeah, the waiter said this was the table." The man chuckled.
"Alright, how about we say our names and a fact about ourselves?" The woman asked. Everyone nodded in agreement, liking the idea. "Okay, my name's Rapunzel and I like to play guitar." She finished.
"Okay, I'm Elsa and I'm a fashion designer." Elsa smiled. She was kind of confused why they had to say a fact, but hey, it was something to get the conversation moving. Maybe they could use is information when the table got silent.
"I'm Anna and Elsa is my sister." She stated as she looked toward her gorgeous big sister. She gave a soft smile, happy that she was going through this with someone she knew.
"I'm Merida and my favorite sport is archery." She grinned. The thought of archery just made her want to abandon this table and go shoot a few arrows. After all, she thought these dinners were dumb.
"I'm Hiccup and I'm a school teacher." He softly smiled. He wasn't sure what the others would think about that, but he couldn't deny it. He loved giving people knowledge, so it was the perfect career.
"I'm Kristoff and I'm very strong." Kristoff chuckled. He didn't know what to say. This was an awkward way to start a conversation, but he didn't have anything better.
"I'm Jack and I like winter." Jack chuckled. He found this saying a fact thing weird. Why would saying a fact be helpful? If anything, he found it kind of embarrassing.
"And I'm the fabulous Eugene and I have strikingly handsome good looks." Eugene said with a huge flirty grin. He showed off his sparkling teeth, knowing he looked better than everyone at the table. Total player. Elsa thought.
"Well, now that we know each other. What's it like living with a total stranger?" Anna asked. Anna wanted to know if everyone felt the same way. Everyone stayed silent, unsure what to say. Luckily, the waitress came and asked what everyone wanted.
"I'll just take a coke. Rapunzel, darling, what would you like?" Eugene asked. Rapunzel noticed that Eugene was acting like a total flirt and knew that she would have to live with it all night long.
"I'll take a glass of wine." Rapunzel sighed. Eugene half smiled, surprised by her order. He figured for her to be against alcohol, but you can't judge a book by its cover.
"I'll take a glass of water." Elsa smiled as she fixed her silverware. She figured that she seemed lame, but she couldn't remember the last time she had a nice, cool drink of water.
"Water is just fine." Anna giggled. She was planning on ordering that, but now it seemed like she was coping Elsa.
"I'll need a beer. Anything you got is fine." Merida replied. She didn't want to be there, but she knew she had no choice. So she ordered what she liked and didn't care what the others would say.
"I'll have a water." Hiccup replied, surprised that he wasn't the only one. Usually when he went out with his coworkers, they would tease him about ordering a water.
"I'll take a beer. Doesn't matter what kind." Kristoff replied as he sat back in his chair. He wasn't very picky, so anything they gave him would be alright.
"I'll take the same." Jack smiled. The waitress nodded her head and walked away. They were all silent for a long time, until Rapunzel kicked Eugene under the table. He turned and looked her, confused as to why she kicked him.
"Start the conversation." Rapunzel mouthed. Rapunzel didn't want the whole night to be this awkward. She started the first conversation, she didn't want to come off as annoying.
"No. You." Eugene replied. He didn't understand why he had to start it. She was the bubbly, enthusiastic woman. They could talk about anything, right?
"Just do it. Please!" Rapunzel replied. She really didn't want it to be this silent and she didn't want to start it again. Eugene huffed and knew he had no other option. If he didn't, he didn't know who would.
"So, what do you guys do for jobs?" Eugene asked. He looked at Rapunzel for approval and received two thumbs up. He smiled and leaned over the table.
"I'm a school teacher and Merida is a manager for our local grocery store." Hiccup said. Hiccup was glad someone was brave enough to step up to the plate and swing a few questions at them. Hiccup didn't even know where to begin. He usually spent his weekends curled up with a good book as girly as that sounds.
"Ooo, that sounds like fun. Are the kids smart? Funny?" Anna asked. Anna had always loved children. They gave her a happiness that she couldn't explain. On the top of her checklist, she wanted someone who wanted children. It has always been her dream to have kids, she even had names already picked out!
"Most of them are both. Others are mean and stupid." Hiccup chuckled, remembering his students. Suddenly, the waitress appeared with all the drinks. She handed them out and walked away, but not without a flirtatious thanks from Eugene.
"Ooo, I work at the Arendelle pet shelter and Kristoff works for Christian Andersen Construction." Anna cheered. Elsa spit out her water, spraying it all over Jack. Everyone burst out laughing, mostly Eugene since it didn't happen to him.
"Why did you do that?" Jack asked. He wiped off his face, surprised by Elsa's reaction. Didn't she already know this stuff? And why did she care so much?
"Did you say Christian Andersen Construction?" Elsa interrogated, ignoring Jack's question. Elsa didn't think she heard Anna right. She couldn't have said that. Why would her brother-in-law work for her enemy?
"Yeah." Anna replied. She hoped Elsa wouldn't catch it, but nothing gets past Elsa. Honestly, you could whisper anything and she could hear you from a mile away.
"Because that's the company doing my addition." Elsa awed. She was amused by the fact that she was sitting right next to one of her workers. Kristoff didn't look like he would work for them, but what did she know?
"Wait, what?" Jack replied. Elsa had only told Jack bits and pieces, but from what he got, Christian Andersen Construction was a dirty company. Apparently, they sued a lot of people for their mistakes.
"Yeah, Kristoff's company almost wouldn't take the job. Man, you guys would have been dumb not to take it. We're giving way more money than you need." Elsa huffed.
"What? No, you're not. Do you see how much time you've given us. Six months." Kristoff scoffed. Everyone was surprised by the fight breaking out and watched intently. Whatever was going on was obviously important.
"So, Kristoff, you're saying that Elsa isn't giving you enough time?" Eugene asked. Eugene wanted more information about this topic. It could make a great article.
"Yeah." Kristoff replied.
"And Elsa, you're saying that you're overpaying Kristoff?" Eugene questioned. Eugene had to get a few facts about this first. It helped having two people from opposite sides to give him a little idea about the argument.
"Yeah." She frowned. She was confused as to why he cared so much.
"Anyways, Elsa is a fashion designer and I'm a manger at the local dealership." Jack said, trying to get past the fight. He didn't want something to break out in front of everyone.
"Nice. I work at the bank and Eugene is a journalist for our local paper." Rapunzel smiled, going along with Jack's idea. Everyone turned and looked at Eugene.
"You're a journalist?" Elsa asked. Journalists were sneaky people. They were on the top of Elsa's list to watch out for. They could twist your words and make them sound like something you didn't mean.
"Yeah?" Eugene replied. Elsa knew something fishy was going on with him.
"Okay, I have a question." Merida announced. Merida could care less about what everyone did. She just had to get this off her chest.
"Shoot." Eugene smiled. For once, he wanted the attention off of him.
"How much stuff do you do with your spouse? Like do you sleep in the same bed? Make dinner together? Do you own a house? Apartment?" Merida asked. Her mother has been bugging her about everything so she wanted to know what everyone else did so she could use them as excuses.
"Kristoff and I sleep in the same bed." Anna blushed. Anna hoped they weren't the only ones. That would make them the odd ones.
"So do we." Rapunzel answered as she looked at Eugene. Rapunzel was thankful that at least they weren't the only ones. If they were, they would seem too trusting.
"Jack and I don't. We have our own separate rooms." Elsa replied. Elsa didn't care if they didn't sleep together. Elsa wouldn't let Jack near her until she was ready. She wasn't going to fall under the pressure of everyone else.
"Hiccup and I have separate beds." Merida added. Merida happily sighed. She was thankful that Elsa and Jack had the same idea as her and Hiccup.
"Kristoff and I own a house." Anna smiled. She liked talking about her life with Kristoff. She felt close to him already. Anna could talk about him all day, even though she hardly knew him.
"Jack and I are staying in my apartment." Elsa added. Elsa could never buy a house. She didn't want to go through all of the income tax and property taxes. It was easier to stay in an apartment.
"Hiccup is staying in my apartment, too." Merida chuckled. Merida was surprised at how much Elsa and her had in common. Everyone waited for Eugene and Rapunzel to jump in, but they didn't.
"Where are you guys staying?" Hiccup asked. Hiccup was confused why they didn't answer. They had be willing to say everything else, why was this so hard? Rapunzel looked at Eugene, making faces back and forth.
"Right now we're staying in Rapunzel's parents' basement, but we made an offer for the house down the street from them." Eugene replied. Eugene knew this was a rough subject for Rap, but everyone would find out sooner or later.
"None of you owned your own house?" Jack asked. He figured Rapunzel to at least own an apartment by herself. They made more faces back and forth. Rapunzel started to blush madly.
"I shared an apartment with my twin brother until we got married. Then we moved into the basement." Eugene chuckled. Eugene shared half of the apartment. The two couldn't stand each other. They hated each other's guts, making Rapunzel's parents' basement a great escape.
"Did you ever own anything?" Merida asked. She felt like Rapunzel and Eugene were hiding something. Rapunzel looked responsible and she had to have her life together. There's no way she willing stayed in the basement.
"I did. But it just didn't work out." Rapunzel squeaked, turning redder than a tomato. She really didn't want to talk about it. She hoped everyone would turn away and forget the subject.
"Oh, that sucks." Anna frowned. She wanted to make Rapunzel feel more comfortable. Something bad must have happened to her. Anna didn't want to push Rapunzel over the edge with questions.
"Okay. So, who makes the dinner in your house?" Merida asked. Merida decided to ignore the last topic and move on. Hiccup and her argue about it everyday, so she might as well see what everyone else did.
"I do." Elsa and Anna replied. They had always been great cooks. Why not put their skills to use?
"We take turns." Rapunzel giggled, turning back to her normal self. She was thankful that everyone moved on. She hoped they would forget about it.
"Okay, so where does everyone live?" Anna giggled. Anna wanted to see if they were close to each other. Maybe they could see each other more often. After all, Anna needed more friends anyways.
"Corona!" Rapunzel and Eugene cheered. Their small town was one of the best in high school sports and was known for it around the state. Even though they have a small population of 3,000 they could still beat some of the top schools.
"Berk." Merida and Hiccup chuckled. Their town was known for the big fishing industry. Ever since Mr. Hagen caught the huge walleye, everyone rushed to catch one of their own.
"Arendelle!" Kristoff and Anna smiled. Arendelle was a city known for the good ice skating rinks and ice industries. It was the perfect place for a winter wonderland.
"And we live here, in Burgess." Jack replied. Burgess was a big city full of wonderful ideas. It was the place to go if you had a great idea or business. It was the New York City of their state.
"So we all live about fifteen minutes away." Rapunzel smiled. Really, she was happy that she could see any of her friends anytime she wanted to.
"Awesome! Then we can met up with each other!" Anna cheered. She liked all of her new friends.
"I'm not sure I want to hang out with Curly." Eugene smirked. He was trying to tease Merida. He wanted to see what made her burst. She seemed hotheaded and he really wanted to test his theory.
"What did you call me?" Merida asked. Merida had never liked being picked on. It wasn't that she couldn't handle the names, it was that she couldn't handle her anger.
"Eugene." Rapunzel harshly whispered. Rapunzel didn't really want him to start a fight with the tough looking redhead. Eugene smiled and pushed on, ignoring his wife.
"I called you Curly. Don't you like nicknames?" He asked. Eugene watch her fume in anger. Her face began to turn a light pink.
"Not really, pretty boy." Merida grumbled. Eugene cleared his throat, trying to clean the awkward air away as well. He was changing his mind. He knew she could beat him up, so he hoped to move on.
"So, Jack, how's your dad's business coming along?" Eugene asked. Jack never mentioned his father or his business so it was surprising that Eugene knew about it.
"How do you know about his business?" Jack asked. He was confused. Why would this random stranger know so much about him?
"Jack, I know a lot about everyone. I'm a journalist." Eugene smirked. He always used that as his excuse. Yes, he did do some information on all of them once he found out their names.
"Really? Then what do ya know know 'bout me?" Merida questioned in her thick Scottish accent. Merida's family was nothing important so Eugene couldn't possibly know anything about her.
"I know your father, Fergus, and your mother, Elinor, very well. They went through a lot trying to become citizens. Anyways, how's their clothing line coming along?" Eugene asked. Merida looked completely shocked. How could this random stranger know so much about her? She was about to say something when he cut her off. "And how are the triplets? What grade are they going to be in? Juniors?" Eugene asked. Hiccup was confused at how Merida told Eugene more about her family than she told him.
"How do you about my family?" Merida commanded. She bubbling over in anger that he knew this much about her family. She didn't like when people had the upper hand.
"Let's just say the DunBroch's are a hot topic in the office." Eugene smirked. They really were. They had found the best fabric to make waterproof clothing. Bear fur.
"Do you know anything about me?" Anna asked. She wanted to see if her family was a hot topic in the office. She was curious, wondering how he knew all of this stuff.
"Anna." Elsa quietly scolded. Elsa didn't want to know what this stranger knew about their family.
"Anna Delle. Your parents passed away a couple years ago and they were the best florists the world has ever seen. If you ever needed a complex arrangement, they were the ones you went to. Let's not forget that your grandpa helped build Arendelle's main park." Eugene answered. Elsa and Anna stared at him confused. Elsa slowly shook her head.
"How?" Elsa gasped. She couldn't believe that he knew so much her family. She hasn't even spent a full twenty four hours with him and he knew more about her family than Jack.
"It's called research. If you want to make it in the writing world, you need to know about everyone and everything." Eugene informed. Suddenly, the waitress showed up and handed out their meals.
"There you go. Anything else I can get you?" She asked.
"We're good. Thanks, sweetheart." Eugene smiled as she walked away blushing.
"So, I'm guessing you knew everything about Rapunzel then." Hiccup replied. Eugene finished chewing and wiped his mouth.
"Actually, I knew absolutely nothing about her. She's the typical small town girl. Her parents grew up there so they raised Rapunzel there. Her family doesn't own any businesses or city parks. No, she comes from a family that everyone knows and loves. They're the ones who donate money to the poor and don't want to be remembered. The only information we have about them was when they had the first baby born in July that year." He answered as he looked at Rapunzel. She was the first baby. He knew her middle name, her natural hair color, and even how much she weighed. He copied the picture of her and put it on his desk. It was the only picture he had on his desk.
Rapunzel smiled at him. She felt joy that he actually found the time to try to find information about her family. And he described them perfectly. Her parents never wanted money for what they did. Heck, they didn't even want credit for when Rapunzel graduated top of her class. They told everyone that it was all her.
"Are you serious?" Kristoff asked. He couldn't believe that that was the only information about her family.
"Dead serious." Eugene replied as he shrugged his shoulders. He tried to find everything about her, but there wasn't much.
"If you're lying, I get ta cut off all your hair." Merida smirked.
"Okay." Eugene chuckled. They all went back to eating. It was silent except for the sound of them munching their meals.
"Jack, where are you from?" Rapunzel asked. She hadn't said much the whole evening.
"Burgess. I grew up here." Jack smiled. He could talk about his hometown for hours. He had the best childhood.
"Kinda like Elsa and me, except now she lives in Burgess." Anna giggled, trying to give her childhood.
"Guess where I grew up. Don't you dare breathe a word Hiccup and Mr. Know It All." Merida demanded as she pointed at Hiccup and Eugene. They held up their hands in surrender, not wanting to infuriate her more.
"Pennsylvania!" Anna cheered. Everyone looked at her confused. Pennsylvania was about 1,000 miles away. Why would she live there?
"Nope. Farther." Merida grinned. She loved watching them ponder about her life.
"Technically you should have asked where you were born. You grew up in Berk when you were about four." Hiccup informed. She rolled her eyes sent him a playful glare.
"Fine, where was I born?" Merida groaned, changing her question. Everyone furrowed their eyebrows, thinking hard.
"Netherlands!" Jack cheered. He felt like he had it right. She had an accent, but he didn't know where it was from.
"Wrong!" Merida snorted. She didn't have their accent!
"Scotland." Rapunzel and Elsa smiled. They looked at each other laughing. They could tell from her accent. Anyone couldn't tell she wasn't from the United States.
"Correct!" Merida grinned, making everyone laugh. After a while, everyone calmed down and it became silent.
"Eugene, where are you from?" Hiccup asked. He wanted to know if he was a local or if his parents moved here later. If Eugene knew everything about them, then Hiccup should be allowed to at least know where he was from.
"Corona. Same with Green eyes." Eugene smiled. He didn't know that Rapunzel was from Corona until he got married to her. He'd never seen her in school, which was very strange since their high school only had about 300 students.
"Really?" Rapunzel asked. She had no idea that she went to school with Eugene. She couldn't remember him or his brother. You would think they would be big talk since they were twins.
"Yeah. But I guess you would have only have been a freshman when I was a senior." Eugene chuckled. Rapunzel smiled and knew he was right. Rapunzel tried to stay away from upperclassmen.
"Anywho. Should we order dessert?" Jack asked. He was ready for anything sweet.
"Let's order the chocolate cake." Elsa said, her mouth was watering as she looked at the picture of the cake. She loved everything chocolate.
"Yes!" Rapunzel smiled as she rubbed her hands together. She desperately wanted dessert. They thought of a melty chocolate cake made her swoon.
"Who wants the chocolate cake?" Hiccup asked. Everyone raised their hands. "Eugene, order the cake." Hiccup smirked.
"Why me?" He exclaimed. Why did he have to be the one to order the dessert?
"Because you seem to be very close to that waitress." Hiccup said as he wiggled his eyebrows. Everyone laughed as Eugene rolled his eyes. He ordered the cake and eventually it arrived. Everyone awed over the delicious cake. The night was perfect.
