Ch. 6: The Help and the Message
A/N: Hey readers! Sorry for the late upday, this weekend has been crazy. But I'm back now and looking to make up for lost time. So without further ado, here we go.
Now Mark, Jack, Bob and Wade were in the hotel room, attempting to put together a couple of starter up superhero costumes while waiting for Kathryn and her friend to arrive. So far, what they got was a black t-shirt with big red tape forming an M on it for Mark and a black and green hoodie for Jack with a mask that was half black and half blue and only covered around his eyes and was tied back behind his head. They weren't anything fancy or too bold of course, but again they were starter ups and actually did pretty well for the time being. Suddenly, there was a knock on the door. Already knowing who it was, the boys quickly hid their work before Mark went to answer the door, meeting his expected guest on the other side and standing alone.
"Hey Kathy" he smiled.
"Hey Mark, this is the friend I told you about, Amy Nelson" he introduced and the beautiful girl came into Mark's sight, causing him to briefly freeze up and lose his breath.
"Hi, nice to meet you" she smiled brightly while offering her hand to the stunned hero.
"Um yes, hi, it's nice to meet you too" he quickly recovered in an awkward way while accepting the handshake, tryna suppress his thoughts on how gorgeous she looked to stay focused on the task. "Please, come in" he granted quickly to hide his embarrassment and the two ladies smiled as they entered the room.
While Amy sat her stuff down and went to meet and greet with the others, Kathryn stopped to give Mark a smirk as he glanced at her. "You do remember me saying I was bringing a friend with me, right?" she whispered, almost laughing.
"I don't remember you mentioning she looks like a goddess" he whispered back.
"Well I'm sure she would love to hear that" Kat smiled as they joined the group, Amy now having met everyone in the room.
"So uh, just outta curiosity" Mark began, catching everyone's attention. "How do you two know each other?" he asked the two ladies.
"We've been friends for a long time" Kathryn answered.
"And you just decided to help us?" he shrugged with a smirk at Amy.
"Well, I'll admit I had my own reasons, but I figured I could help both of us out and do some good" she shrugged as well with a smile.
"Thankyou" Mark smiled and nodded thankfully after a minute and she seemed very flattered, tryna hide the blush creeping in her cheeks. "Please, both of you, have a seat" he held out his hands at the table. The two ladies accepted the offer and were joined by Mark and Jack while Bob and Wade stuck by the bed, where they hid the costumes and watched.
"So," Jack began. "You said you had something for us?"
Amy and Kathryn glanced at each other with nervous looks before responding. "Before we get to that, there's something we need to know" Kathy noted, Mark and Jack furrowing their eyebrows. "It's about what happened at the cafe the other day" she explained and now the two men, and even their two friends were starting to get worried.
"Look," Mark quickly tried to ease everything up. "We're really sorry that we just vanished on you, we know it was wrong and it must've-"
"No no, it's fine" she quickly assured. "People were in danger and you had to do something" she slowly continued, really catching their attention. They just starred at her with hesitant looks, not knowing what to say. "What? You didn't think I would recognize you two?" she nervously smirked as they tried to come up with something.
"Well...look," Mark began nervously.
"Don't worry, you can trust us both, and what you guys did that day was amazing" she assured. "We just wanna know....what happened to you two?" she finally asked.
Mark and Jack looked at each other knowingly and decided to give in. "A meteor did this" Jack answered. "It had like glowing stones on it and such" he explained and the two ladies ended up smirking at each other.
"What? What is it?" Mark asked.
"The stones on the meteor are what gave you ur powers" Amy answered. "The people who know about them call them the Matthias stones"
"Matthias? Gift from God" Jack stated.
"Exactly, they're called that because anybody who comes into physical contact with them gets their greatest weakness turned into their greatest strength, just like it did with you two gentlemen" she stated.
Mark and Jack glanced at each other again, feeling relieved at finally have gotten a useful piece of information. Let alone, one about the things that created them. "And you know all of this how?" Mark asked.
The beautiful blonde grinned with a side glance at Kathryn before responding. "I've been spying around on the company for a while now, they're not the first Matthias stones to have hit the earth, just the first that didn't wind up in their hands"
"Wait, you've been spying on them?" Jack asked in shock.
"If you worked there long enough, you would too" Amy nodded and Jack laughed with his hands raised.
"Ok then" Mark nodded with a grateful smile. "Anything else you can share?" he asked.
Amy brought ber hands up on the table before continuing. "Do you remember when ur father first created the industry? It wasn't just a human resources center, it was also a weapons company for the military?"
"Yea, he wanted to help out the country and the people who protected it" he nodded. "But he had that part of it shut down before he passed away"
"At least, that's what we all thought" Kathryn chimed in as she started pulling out documents and photographs from her bag. "As it turns out, it's been used as a front for illegal experimentation and research regarding military science and super soldiers" she stated as she showed them the images on the table, showing every dirty bit happening within the building's walls.
"My God" Mark breathed out as he looked over the images. "How did you get these?" he faced back up at the two ladies.
"She's good isn't she?" Kathryn nudged her head towards Amy. "Aren't you glad I got her involved?" she smiled proudly and the two slightly giggled.
"They've also been using all the other Matthias stones they found for their super soldiers program" Amy added.
"That must've been those soldiers we encountered" Jack noted and Mark nodded in agreement.
"I cannot believe this" Mark shook his head.
"That's not even the half of it" Amy stated as Kathryn staryed pulling out more photos.
"She also uncovered a new group of super soldiers they call the Apocalypto soldiers" Kathy stated as she dug for the photos. "Men who feel no pain, hit harder then life, can do twice of everything a normal human being can, and this...is number twelve" she stated as she handed the photo to Mark, causing him to gasp at what she revealed to him.
"It's Tyler" he breathed out.
"What?!" Jack replied as he too took a close look at the photo, Bob and Wade coming around to do the same.
"My God, what the hell have they done to him?" wade asked.
"They wiped his memory and turned him into a mindless machine that'll kill on order and without hesitation" Kathy stated as they continued to stare in disbelief.
"Wait, what about Ethan?" Jack asked. "Is he there too?"
"He is" she nodded, already digging his photo out. "Only they did something different with him, they turned him into a cyborg" she informed and handed the photo to Jack.
"Oh my God" the Irishman breathed out. "What is that bastard doing?"
"Or why, why is he doing this?" Mark asked. "Why would the colonel do something like this? Or to them?"
"I don't know" Kathryn shook her head. "But there may be someone who does" she added hopefully. The boys all turned back up to face her before she nodded towards Amy.
"I was able to get into his personal files, and I found something recent that came in for him" Amy stated as she pulled out her phone and searched for the item she copied to her phone. "This is a private message I pulled off of his computer, sent to him from an unknown number" she continued. "I thought it was gonna be a business partner of his at first, but the man on the phone addressed him as colonel" she stated, and now the people in the room were very eager to hear it. "I figured that you would probably know who this is" she finished before hitting play, the four men listening very intently as the message played.
"*cough* *gasp* Colonel!*cough* *cough* If you can hear this,*raspy gasp* You better run!"
Mark had to listen to it a second time to make sure who it was. The sound quality and raspy voice made it a little hard, but Mark was sure he was right. "Oh my God, it's Abe" he stated.
"Who?" Jack asked.
"It's Abraham" he answered.
"The detective?" Wade asked and Mark noted.
"But I thought he was dead?" Bob furrowed his brow.
"I thought so too, but I guess he survived somehow" Mark replied.
"If that is him, then he knows what happened at the manor" Jack stated. "He can tell us what happened" he smiled and the others started getting excited.
"It'll hafta be quick though" Amy noted, receiving questioning looks.
"We've been able to look at what he's been doing since we heard the message" Kathryn began. "He booked a flight to L.A. yesterday and is gonna be here early in the morning" she noted.
"And I'm guessing after making that call, the colonel is gonna be expecting his arrival" Mark guest it and she nodded. He then turned his attention to Jack. "What do you think? Not a bad way to start out the superhero gig?" he smirked.
"Thought you never ask" Jack grinned.
X
The next morning, the two super doopers were now at L.A.X airport, awaiting the arrival of the detective and wearing the outfits they made last night. But in case Wilford Warfstache had people watching inside, they had to scout it from the outside. To make things more complicated, Amy and Kathryn had to go to work to make sure their boss wouldn't get suspicious of them and the two heroes didn't wanna put Bob and Wade in any potential danger, so they forced them to stay behind. Luckily, however, this gave them the chance to test out Jack's eye, see if it really could see everything he wanted.
Mark kept watch of the time so that they would know when to expect his arrival, which should be soon. About five minutes after it was scheduled to arrive, Jack's eye was starting to prove it's extraordinary worth. The plane that was flying in shined a bright green as it came in for a land. Not only that, but the sight in Jack's right eye even zoomed in closer on the plane before showing him the very passenger inside that they were waiting for. "My God I love my eye" Jack stated in awe, shaking his head.
"I'm guessing that's his flight?" Mark giggled.
"Yea" he laughed back.
Once the plane landed, the passengers got all if their luggage and headed off. Jack could see the detective himself as he entered the walkway and followed the crowd to the exit. It wasn't long before he reached the baggage claim area. Once there, he was approached by two suspicious looking characters that Jack could only see with his eye.
"Wait a minute, wait a minute, these two guys who are glowing red and wearing suits just confronted him" Jack informed as he watched.
"Guess we were right about his people being there" Mark stated, and then Jack saw one of the men pull a small object out and kept it hidden within his jacket.
"Oh shite, they've gotta gun on him" he continued to inform. "And now it looks like they're escorting him to their vehicle" he noted as the three men started walking away.
"Alright, keep watching and hold on" Mark commanded as he began to hover with both arms under Jack's armpits, following the vehicle by air.
Jack kept watch as the two flew over the city streets of L.A., getting closer to the car. "It's the black s.u.v. right there" Jack pointed out the car just straight ahead of them.
"Alright, here we go" Mark shouted as he released the Irishman, Jack shooting his septic webs to keep up and wooo-ing as he swung.
Mark swooped in, grabbed the entire car with the screaming passengers still inside, took to the air again and dropped it right on top of a building, causing the windows to shatter and the passengers to freak out even more. As they tried to figure out just what the hell was going on, the roof of the car was suddenly ripped open. Now Abraham and his captors could see who their attacker was and could not believe the sight they saw before them. Mark smiled widely at his old friend and almost laughed from the stunned look on his face. "What's up Abe?" he nodded.
Now the four other men in the car were rushing to get out while reaching for their weapons, only for the first two to be knocked away by a swinging kick from Jack before speeding around to knockout the other two. Now all that was left was to get Abe outta here. But what the two saviors didn't know, was that the sunglasses those guys were wearing weren't just shades, they were also video recorders.
"Sir, they've arrived and all the men are down" the lady sitting at the desk in front of the t.v. monitor noted as her boss watched.
"Don't worry, we planned for this" the Colonel smiled devilishly. "Send them in" he turned to one of the other people with a t.v. monitor and the guy did so on command.
"So how's it going Abe?" Mark smiled as he landed next to the car, where the detective slowly and carefully scooted out, still having a gunshot injury from the manor.
"Mark" he breathed out. "I can't believe it, I thought you were dead" he panted.
"I thought the same for you" he laughed and Abe also giggled slightly and nervously.
"But...how did this happen?" he asked, still in shock.
"Let's getchu outta here first, then we'll talk" Mark placed an assuring hand on his arm and was ready to take off with him.
"WATCH OUT!" Abe shouted, pointing past Mark and allerting him just in time to see a rocket flying in.
Mark grabbed Abe and shot to the air in time before the explosive connected with the car, causing it to burst into flames and dupree. While in the air, Mark felt the impact of rapid bullets tearing through the shirt and bouncing off his back. He looked over his shoulder to see two soldiers firing off at him from the roof of the city parking lot across the street, recognizing them from the photos of the Apocalypto soldiers Kathy showed him. He made sure he was holding Abe to a point where he couldn't get hit and that Jack was safely hiding while lowering down to place the detective next to the Irishman. "Get him outta here, I'll handle these guys!" he shouted.
"Got it!" Jack shouted back before grabbing Abe and disappearing before his eyes. Mark hovered back up and was immediately met with bullets to the torso, before flying in and crashing into the first soldier and leaving him squirming in a dent in the concrete road.
"You ruined my new shirt!" Mark shouted before turning his attention to the second gunman. Mark quickly hovered down and snatched the gun away before tearing it, smashing it and tossing it away. Then the guy kept his attack up with a punch to the face. Though the guy wasn't as strong as Mark, he couldn't deny he had a mean left hook. Mark even brought his hand up to cup the part of his jaw that was hit before shifting it to the side. "Ow, that hurt you dick" he complained before the guy continued his assault.
First he connected with another left hook, then a right and a knee to the face. Mark had to admit that the guy was hitting hard enough and moving fast enough to put up a hell of a fight, there was only so much more he could take before the guy started getting the upper hand on him. Luckily, Mark wasn't just strong, he, along with Bob and Wade, took up boxing and self-defense several years ago and has kept up on it sense. He blocked the next left hook and countered with a right punch to the ribs, causing the attacker to briefly fly a few feet in the air before landing back down on all fours. As he attempted to make it back to his feet, Mark sent him crashing into the wall just right below the roof of the garage before he could.
"Haha, see what happens when you act like a douche?" he mocked. "Now you look like one" he joked, but then two other Apocalypto soldiers came charging out, one with a rocket launcher pointed right at the hero. Mark brought his arms up into an X form to block the flying explosive that sent him flying off the building. "Oh FUCK YOU!" Mark screamed as he fell before crashing on top of a car.
Then, Jack came running back to rid them of their weapons before connecting with running slaps, but it didn't really seem to have any effect on them. So, he switched to running punches that seemed to have enough force to knock em back or around, but they seemed to lack in causing any pain, except for Jack's hands. He knew he would need a new stragedy if he was gonna take these guys on, and maybe he's seen too much t.v. but he thought up a plan that could probably work, or break his hands but at least he tried.
Jack took off running at a far distance and the bad guys retrieved their weapons while Mark came flying back up. But just when they were getting ready to fire at him again, Jack came charging back with a supersonic punch that laid out the first soldier before hopping on a crotch-rocket, jumping fifteen feet in the air while pulling the bike up with his septic webs, flipping it around and kicking it towards the second soldier. The last man standing raised his weapon and was intending to shoot Jack, but ended up shooting the bike and causing it to explode right in front of him. Jack did a infamous superhero landing with one knee touching the ground, as well as his right palm, and his left arm spread out with his head bowed, looking very stylish and classy. Mark just watched with bulged eyes as Jack faced up and admired his handy work.
"Wooo! Speed is key baby!" he exclaimed in triumph before returning to his feet. "Aw that was awesome! Did you see that?!" he asked as he moved closer to Mark.
"Look out!" Mark shouted, pointing up to where the gunman who was still stuck in the wall had his pistol pointed at the Irishman. Jack quickly dodged the gunshot before Mark flew up and snapped the guy's arm, causing the firearm to drop, but without a scream or any noise whatsoever from the soldier who feels no pain. Then Mark noticed the little camera he had attached to the side of his face. "If that's you watching William, you should've ran like Abe said, cos we're coming for ya" he warned before crushing the camera and knocking the assailant out.
The Colonel himself nearly smirked at the footage he just witnessed and looked forward to seeing him again.
"You ok?" Mark asked as he checked on Jack.
"Yea, that was-oh my God!" his attention was caught by the soldiers, despite the number of injuries they suffered, returning to their feet and turning to the two with stern, expressionless looks. "Now I know why they're called Apocalypto soldiers, those are some tough cookies" he stated in awe and horror.
Mark's expression wasn't any different as he witnessed the horrific sight. One soldier was snapping his bones back together, another was just walking off the third degree burns he had on a large portion of his body and the last guy regained consciousness like he was never unconscious. "Oh this isn't pretty" he stated in a low, horrified voice.
But before they could make their next move, they were all suddenly struck down by these energy looking blast that came from above. After the troops collapsed dead on the concrete, Mark and Jack looked up to see Amy herself flying over them. Now their looks of horror and shock grew into just plan old "what the fuck?!" looks.
"I'll explain later! I promise" Amy called before flying away.
"Uuuuuhhhhhhh?" Jack wondered.
"I....don't know" Mark jerked his head around. "But...uh, Abe is safe, right?" he checked real quick, attempting to stay focused on the important task at hand here.
"Um, yea, he is" Jack nodded.
"Ok, um...let's just head there....and-"
"Yea, sounds good" he nodded.
There was a brief pause as Mark and Jack just stared at each other, tryna relieve themselves from their shocked expressions. "Ok then" Mark nodded.
"Ok" Jack nodded back.
"Let's go" he nudged his head to the side and took off flying while Jack swung away.
