Dance With The Devil
"Look, I can't keep up this lie."
Mark and Dark were walking around Brighton since Mark wanted time to talk to his demon away from Signe.
To other pedestrians walking down the street, the odd pair looked like they were friends having a casual discussion.
"Then tell her." Dark replied simply with a small shrug.
"How? How do I tell her that I'm not her boyfriend and that I've been sleeping with her?!" Mark blurted in exasperation, earning curious stares from a few confused people.
"Well not like that." Dark snorted in amusement with a wry smirk.
"Whatever. Either way, what the hell am I supposed to do?" Mark huffed in irritation.
"I'm your demon, not your guardian angel. Besides, you're not entirely stupid, figure it out yourself." Dark retorted in a bored tone.
"Shouldn't you be helping if you want me to get my body back so badly?" Mark countered.
"Fine, I'll try talking to Anti and seeing if he knows anything about...that." Dark finished, gesturing at Mark before abruptly disappearing.
Mark shook his head before finding a Starbucks to sit at, ordering a cup of coffee before taking a seat at a booth in the back.
"Oh my god, you're Jacksepticeye!"
Mark looked around in confusion to find a teenage girl wearing a Jacksepticeye shirt sitting at a table not far from his.
Well shit, Mark thought grimly as the girl approached him with a shy smile, her hands fidgeting behind her back.
"Hey, what's your name?" Mark asked the girl kindly with what he hoped passed off as a friendly smile as he stood up.
"I-I'm Mary." She stammered awkwardly, stiffening in surprise when Mark pulled her into a hug.
"It's nice to meet ya." Mark replied as her face burned a bright red hue in mild embarrassment.
"Sean?"
Mark's attention was pulled from the fan by the barista.
"I'll let you get your drink, sorry for bothering you." Mary apologized meekly, disappearing into the crowd before Mark could stop her.
Mark went and got his coffee before glancing out the door, his drink slipping from his hand at what he saw.
Dark was lying on the ground unmoving, his already pale face paler than usual and his eyes closed.
"Dark!" Mark cried as he pushed through the crowd gathering around him to reach the demon.
"I...knew this would h-happen soon enough." Dark coughed weakly, flecks of black blood splattering onto the gray concrete.
"What are you talking about? What's wrong?" Mark whispered sharply, concern shining in his eyes.
"My physical form is dying since I've been away from your body for so long." Dark muttered through slitted eyes.
"Does that mean you're dying too?" Mark pressed worriedly, freezing when he heard sirens in the distance grow closer.
"Mark, I-"
Dark broke off as he coughed up more blood, his face glistening with sweat as his black hair drooped in front of his black eyes.
"Don't let them take me, t-they'll know I'm not human." Dark directed through gritted teeth.
"Sir step aside, we need to take him to the hospital." A paramedic persisted as he pulled Mark away from Dark.
"But-"
"I know you're in shock, but he'll be okay soon." The paramedic assured him.
Another uniformed male lifted the demon onto a stretcher before the pair whisked him away in an ambulance to the nearest hospital.
"They're going to experiment on him, or worse." Mark realized as he watched the ambulance disappear out of sight before running home.
"Hey Sean." Signe greeted Mark as he ran inside to grabbed Sean's phone.
"I'm going to the hospital, I'll be back!" Mark yelled over his shoulder before calling over a taxi.
"Sean!" Signe called out as she ran after him.
"What are you doing? Why are you going to the hospital?!" Signe demanded.
Mark hesitated as the taxi pulled over to him, releasing a slow sigh as he opened the door.
"Hop in, I'll explain on the way there."
