°You're Online Gaming Buddies + Meet IRL But Don't Know°

((is this premise too confusing?))

Today you were going to your friend's boyfriend's birthday party. You didn't know him that well, but your friend insisted that you go out sometimes instead of gaming online and only talking to those people. But she didn't understand that you had found a best friend on there. Sure, he went by the alias of Wilford or something, but you never gave him your real name either. You've been gaming together for years, so it felt like a real friendship.

Soon after you arrived at the party, Y/F/N left you by the food to go mingle with her boyfriend. Another guy was standing there as well, looking lost. "You get abandoned too?" You asked him.

"Yeah, my friend Ryan brought me here but found his girlfriend. You?"

"My friend Y/F/N brought me here, her boyfriend is the birthday boy."

"Oh so you're Y/F/N's cute friend her and Ryan have been trying to set me up with." He suddenly had a lightbulb.

You blushed when he called you cute. "Have they? I didn't realize you were Ryan's cute friend him and Y/F/N have been trying to set me up with."

"You think they did this on purpose?"

"Knowing Y/F/N, probably."

"I'm Mark, by the way." He introduced himself.

"Y/N." You shook his outstretched hand.

"God, I'd much rather be playing online video games, is that bad?" Mark said, looking out at the sea of people.

"No, I feel the same way. My gaming buddy is probably wondering where I am, I forgot to tell them I was going to be out."

"Ah crap, me too!" His eyes flitted to the upstairs. "I can tell her later. For now, I think I'd like to talk to you."

You smiled at him, and began a conversation about the games you liked to play. Talking with Mark seemed so easy, it felt as if you'd known each other for years. At the end of the party, you two exchanged phone numbers.

"I see you met Mark." Y/F/N giggled as you two drove to your apartment.

"Yeah, he was nice." You said nonchalantly. If she found out that you couldn't stop thinking about him and his stubble and his dark brown eyes and his bright red hair and his laugh and pretty much everything about him, she wouldn't stop gloating.

"Nice? I saw you two flirting!"

"We were talking about video games." You rolled your eyes.

"That's why I was trying to set you guys up, Ryan says he's obsessed with gaming too."

"Yeah, and he has an online gaming buddy too! Its not that weird!"

"Sure, Y/N."

You dropped her off at her apartment, then went up to your own. As soon as you were in, you ran over to your console to talk to Wilford. You saw a message from him already.

'Hey (yourscreenname), sorry I was at a party, got on as soon as I could.'

Okay, so you didn't miss much, he was gone too.

'That's cool, how'd it go?'

'The party itself was alright, but I met this awesome girl named Y/N there. I felt like we clicked.'

You nearly choked on your own saliva. Could it really be the Mark you met today. Quickly, you grabbed your phone and opened up Mark's texts.

'Hey Mark?' You sent.

'Yeah, Y/N?' He replied.

'Are you Wilford?'

'Are you (yourscreenname)?'

'Yes, omg'

'All this time? It was you?'

'I know! This is crazy!'

'Hey do you wanna maybe get coffee sometime so we can talk about this shocking revelation?'

'Yeah, that sounds awesome! Can't wait!'

':)'

You excitedly clicked your phone off. Finally you were going to re-meet your best friend, Wilford, or as you now know him, Mark.
