Stay - Kygo
You came to Camp Half-Blood when you were twelve. Suddenly being thrown into a world of magic and gods and goddesses was insane. You knew your mom had left after you were born, but you never realized that she was Athena. Slowly, you assimilated into camp life, and it became your home away from home. Now you were sixteen and you were excited to be returning to camp to see your friends again.
After saying goodbye to your dad, you got on the subway with a few other CHB kids that lived in your subdivision. You weren't too terribly close to them, but the trip to camp was always the most dangerous, so you placed your trust in Matt, a son of Hermes, and Ryan, a son of Iris. They were only a year younger than you but came to camp the same summer as you.
"So how was your school year?" You asked them, nervously tapping your fingers along your knee.
"Ryan nearly blew up the Chemistry lab." Matt laughed, and Ryan rolled his eyes.
"Nearly." He repeated the qualifier. "And it's not my fault Matt switched around my ingredients!"
"There's no such proof of that."
You snorted at their shenanigans. "Matt, you're a son of Hermes. I wouldn't put it past you."
He scoffed in mock offense as the subway car stopped and another group of people boarded. The hair on your arms stood up as you noticed a woman with a hat, sunglasses, and along duster coat on. You knew it to be a monster. But interestingly enough, she wasn't paying any attention to the three demigods that you were a part of. Her gaze was focused on a tall Korean boy oblivious to everything with his headphones on.
"Hey!" You whispered, elbowing Ryan's side.
"Ouch! What was that for?"
"Look at that kid."
You could hear Matt's eyes rolling. "We get it, Y/N, he's cute."
"No! I mean, he is, but that's not my point! He has someone following him, do you see her?" You motioned towards the woman, and when her head jerked with the movement of the cart, you could see scales flash for a moment. "Shit, I think she's a Drakaina."
"What are we going to do? We can't fight it on a packed subway car!" Ryan exclaimed.
You got a lightbulb. "I have an idea, stay here."
Their eyes widened as you stood up and pushed your way through the mass of people. Many were annoyed at you moving, but that was typical on a New York subway. You had wormed your way through to the boy, and he looked up at you, raising his eyebrow.
"Hey, its great to see you!" You said loudly and gave him a hug.
You knew his confusion, and whispered in his ear, "Play along, somebody is following you."
"Oh hey!" He replied loudly with fake enthusiasm, and you were relieved when he obliged.
"Why are you over here by yourself? Come sit with us, we can get a head start on the summer assignment." You motioned to your seat with Matt and Ryan.
As you ducked back through the crowd with the boy, you looked at the woman out of the corner of your eye. For every two steps you took away from her, she walked one forward, keeping you both in her sights. You dragged him to your fellow campers.
"So what's your name? I'm Y/N."
"Mark."
"This is Matt and Ryan." You said quietly, sitting back down. "Matt and Ryan, this is Mark."
"Hi!" They both greeted him.
"Why did you bring me over here?" Mark asked, checking the time on his phone.
"You'll see. What stop are you getting off on?"
"Next one actually."
"Perfect, so are we."
At the next stop, you rushed off the tram, a tight grip on Mark's arm. You stopped the group in front of an old brick building. "Mark, you got a phone?"
"Yeah, do you need to call someone?"
You took the phone from his hand. "Hey, let's take a selfie!" You opened the camera.
Holding it up, you could see behind you. The woman was still following you four.
"What?" Mark asked, looking at the picture, the reptilian-like woman in the background. "Its not Halloween..."
"Exactly." You led the boys down some back streets and eventually tugged them into an abandoned store.
"She's still following us." You sighed, pulling out your arsenal aka your pencil case. "Here, Ryan, you take this."
His eyes widened down at the pencils in his hand. "Your daggers?"
"Yes, you and Matt take Mark to camp while I distract her." You held up your own pen that advertised for Perseus' Gym in downtown LA. "I have my sword, remember?"
"Daggers? Sword?" Mark asked, looking at you three as if you were crazy. "Those are writing utensils."
"And?"
"And, I'm calling the police."
You knocked the phone out of his hand, shattering the screen. "No you're not. No phones."
He looked at you incredulously. "What the hell?!"
"Please, trust me."
"Fine."
"Okay, Matt and Ryan, take Mark to camp while I distract her."
"Woah, woah, I'm not leaving you with that lady."
"Don't worry." You grinned, clicking your pen. It turned into Perseus' sword, a gift from your mom, and you took a moment to laugh internally at Mark's wide eyes. "Now go!"
You watched them hustle out of the front door as the snake woman entered through the back. Rolling under a table, you looked on as the snake woman's clothes dissolved, revealing a snake tail instead of legs and humanoid from the waist up.
When her back was turned to you, you rolled out from under the table. Unfortunately, the footboard creaked underneath you, and the Drakaina whipped around at the sound. She lunged at you and you barely had time to react, barely getting out of the way of her claws. You swiped at her tail, cutting it nearly all the way through. She fell and you were able to thoroughly sliced off her head, turning her into golden dust.
You wiped at your brow, stumbling out into the street. Time to get to camp.
