Stardust - New Politics
Hurrying through the streets, Mark managed to wave down a cart that would take you three up to the castle. At the palace, you hurried onwards and Mark paid the old man.
Guards at the front gate stopped you, and you did something you never imagined doing. "I am Princess Y/N Y/L/N, let. Me. Through!"
They must have recognized you, or didn't want to doubt anybody who claimed that. Stunned, they drew back their spears, granting you entrance.
Clove was still sobbing, and you wished with all your heart that you could do something to fix her pain immediately. But you couldn't, so you did the next best thing, dashing through the halls to the physician's housing. It was still in the same place.
Mark opened the door for you, and Dr. Phillips immediately spotted you. Asking no questions about who you were, he told you to lay her out on the table for him to inspect her.
"What caused this?" He asked, grabbing a jar of something small and black.
"I don't know, she just woke up like this." You were in a panic as Mark did his best to comfort you.
"These are poppy seeds, they should help ease the pain." The doctor tried to give her the small seeds, but Clove closed her mouth and turned her head away from him.
"Please baby, he's going to help you." You convinced her, trying to sound as calm as possible.
She did as you asked, swallowing them. The doctor continued to inspect her side, pressing against her abdomen like you had done. A young man walked into the room, and the doctor snapped his fingers at him.
"Ian, fetch my special bag and send for the king." He ordered, and the boy immediately grabbed a leather bag from a cabinet.
You recognized Ian, he had been taken on by Dr. Phillips when James came down with something serious when he was only a few years old and the physician needed extra help. Ian seemed to recognize you too.
"Princess Y/N?"
"The princess part means nothing to me now." You looked only at Clove, and Mark squeezed your hand. "And I don't think the king will want to see me."
"No, he will, Y/N." The doctor interrupted, waving Ian out the door.
"I don't care. I just want to know if Clove will be okay."
"She will be, I've treated this before. Remember when your brother had this?"
"Yes, James was two years old. I was only eleven. James is eleven now..." Your voice trailed off as you thought of your brother.
Someone knocked at the doorway, and you turned to see a little boy you immediately recognized. "James!" You exclaimed, and he ran over to give you a hug.
"Y/N I missed you so much." He hugged you tightly. "You said you wouldn't leave."
"I know. I'm so sorry." You cried, finding it awkward to hug him with the oversized crown on his head. "What's this?"
"Father died a year ago, and mother too. They made me king." He took it off, fiddling with his abnormally fancy clothes. "I don't want to be king, I just want to be a kid."
You wanted to find someone to yell at, anger coursing through your veins. But nobody was at fault. Not Clove, or James, or your parents, or the uninvolved guards, or the doctor, or Mark. Everything had gone to shit, just because it could.
"Y/N." Dr. Phillips broke into your thoughts. "Clove will be fine in the morning."
"Thank you." You kneeled beside her, taking her hand in yours. Mark came over to stroke her forehead.
"How are you feeling, Clovey?" He whispered to her.
"It still hurts Daddy." She moaned, drawing James' attention.
Your brother joined you, looking curiously at the girl. "Who is she?"
"Your niece." You stood up to bring him out of earshot of her. "We found her abandoned, and as far as I'm concerned she's my daughter."
"She's adorable." James sighed, looking back over to you. "Are you happy, Y/N?"
You watched Mark say something to make Clove laugh, her smile brightening up the whole room. It was contagious, and you found yourself with a loving smile on your lips. "Yes, I love these two with all my heart."
"I think Clove would make a great princess."
You raised an eyebrow at your brother as he held the crown out to you and elaborated. "And her mother would make a great queen."
"James, I don't understand."
"I'm only eleven! I can't be king! It's so lonely here. You and Mark can rule, I just want to be little Prince James again. And Clove can have someone to play with! I'll be super nice to her!"
You bent over to kiss your brother on the cheek, accepting the crown from him. "Okay. Thank you, Prince James."
On the morning of your coronation, Clove ran around the palace half-naked and squealing. "Get back here!" Mark yelled, a smile on his face as he chased her down the halls.
You laughed as you looked on, stepping into your dress. Clove hated getting dressed in the morning. He caught her, carrying her back into your room. She was forced into a pale purple dress that complimented your own pure white and gold one. Mark had on a white ensemble, accented with both gold and purple.
"You look so handsome." You told him, fixing his hair a bit, then giving him a peck on the lips.
"And you are absolutely stunning." He responded.
You were escorted out to the palace courtyard, where your subjects and all sorts of nobility were gathered. A priest of some sort announced you.
"And now, we are here to coronate Princess Y/N, and Prince Mark her uh... husband?" He looked at you a bit confused.
"I mean, we were never officially married." You explained, holding Mark's hand tighter.
"I can do a marriage and a coronation."
After exchanging a look with Mark, you shrugged. "Sure! James, will you walk me down the aisle?"
"Of course!" Your brother leapt up off of his seat, and someone in the row behind him also stood.
Prince, or you guessed now, King Tom.
"May I be my brother's best man?"
Mark's eyes were wide as he nodded, waving his brother up.
"Clove, sweetie, will you be Mama's flower girl?" You asked her, and she agreed excitedly.
The orchestra played lovely music as you walked down the aisle, Clove in front of you, and James' arm linked with yours. Tears of joy sprung into your eyes as you got closer and closer to Mark, your love. At the end of the aisle, James stood behind Tom, and Clove stood behind you as you took Mark's hands in yours.
You barely listened to what the priest said, completely lost in Mark's beautiful chocolate eyes, saying 'I do' after he did.
"You may now kiss the queen." You weren't expecting that, then felt the weight of the crown on your head, and you knew you had been coronated just then.
But that wasn't what matterd in that moment. What mattered was that the love of your life pulled you into an emotional kiss. In the background, you could hear the crowd cheering, and you smiled into the kiss.
"Ladies and gentleman!" The priest called out as you took your lips off of Mark's. "Queen Y/N, and her husband, King Mark!"
"Don't forget Princess Clove!" Mark added, picking up the giggling girl and putting her on his shoulders.
You wrapped your arms around his waist, grinning out at the sea of cheering people, ready to rule your kingdom with the people you love most.
