Warm Bodies: Part Two: (Jack)
"Hello, I'd like to thank you all for your services today. Since this dreadful plague has destroyed the world.." You managed to drone out the monotone voice of your father has be discussed today's plans.
He was on a large TV mounted on the wall, sitting in his office like he always does and orders people around all day. Frankly, he's not as different as he was before the world went to shit. You rolled your eyes, looking at the other four people in your scavenger group.
You made contact with your best friend, who made a face and pretended to fall asleep. You stifled a laugh and looked up to try and listen to your military father bark more orders. You lived in a gated off community in the middle of the city.
Your dad, being the military fanatic he was, seemed to know exactly what to do. Soon enough, this little community was built and your father was the head leader.
"Do you think we can find a cure?" You asked quietly to your friend, Perry. He ran a hand through his curly hair and scoffed in your direction.
"No one believes in the cure anymore, (Y/N)." You sighed and crossed your arms, catching glimpse of a flock of birds flying above you.
"Volunteers like you, to father resources beyond the wall. First word of advice: Corpses look like humans, but they are not. They do not feel. They do not bleed. Whether they were your mother or your best friend, they are beyond our help. They are uncaring, unfeeling. They are incapable of feeling remorse."
You snickered, smirking up at the screen and rocking back and forth on your heels.
"Sounds like someone you know, Dad?"
"They are just an image, like this. As sons and daughters that enable the soul to continue...in human settlement with honor. You are the critical part of what stands between us..and extinction. So, take the obligation to return to us safely. And if you remember the training, you will. Good luck, good journey, and God Bless America!"
Your dad finished his speech and the screen soon flashed to black. You stood there, staring at your reflection and sighing heavily. Your group started leaving, headed towards the entrance of the wall that lead to the city.
"USA! USA! USA!" Your friend cheered, hoisting her gun in the air and grinning stupidly. You bumped hips with her, shaking your head and laughing with her. The others didn't seem too entertained but you didn't really notice.
"Let's go."

Once you reached the abandoned drugstore, you and your group piled in. There were broken glass along the floor and drawers pulled open. Clutter filled the counters and desk tops as some pill bottles filled the glass cases.
You and your group spent a few minutes shoving anything you could find in your packs, scavenging as much as you could fit before heading back. You looked up to see Perry glaring down at one of your members. He was sitting on the floor, leaning against one of the cabinets with his phone in his hands.
The building was dimly lit so it wasn't hard to see the glow from his screen displaying some kind of game he was getting intensely invested in.
"Hey Berg, will you help us or not?" Perry complained, kicking the guy's foot lightly.
"Wait a second dude..I'm almost to the fifth phase. I'm gonna be a winner!" Berg explained, waving Perry off and mashing his thumbs over random buttons. Perry sighed, shaking his head and turning around. You started laughing but cut yourself off once you thought you heard something outside the front door.
"Did you hear that?" Your Best Friend asked. Scrunching her eyebrows up in confusion. You nodded, raising your rifle up higher and keeping a steady grip on it.
"I did. We should bay off." Perry shook his head and walked towards you, pistol swinging by his side.
"Hey, we can not just bay off. We have orders. Do you have any idea how much medication the city needs for a month? We need to a boatload to survive."
"Yeah, you sound like my dad."
"Thank you."
"That wasn't a compliment."
Your friend noticed the tension building in the air and caught both of your guys's attention by holding up a pill bottle and shaking it.
"Oh here, guys. Take some Prozac. Maybe this can cheer you up." Just as she was finishing her witty joke she looked over at another sound coming from outside. She looked worried, setting the bottle down and griping her gun.
"I told you I heard something."
"Perry, let's bay off." You insisted again, backing away to stand with your friend. Perry rolls his eyes and cradles his gun as he walks up to the door.
"We have orders, (y/n). It's probably nothing anyways. You're just being paranoid, okay?" As his hand landed on the door handle, it burst open to reveal a horde of zombies. Coincidentally, J just happened to be in that horse. Perry cursed loudly, backpedaling rapidly and raising his gun.
"Perry!" You cried out, mouth dropping open in shock at the sudden change in danger.
"Shoot the head!" Perry shouted, climbing onto a countertop to start shooting. Zombies drop around J like flies, blood and brain matter splattering against walls. They drop to the ground in a sickening wet smack but J happens to dodge the bullets.
Gunfire lights up the room and smoke fills his nostrils. Corpses against humans. J shuffles forward, seeing Mark take down a human and start munching down. J makes a face, he really hates eating people. He may be a zombie, but he does have standards.
Suddenly, he hears your voice and looks up to see you. Whoa. He's never seen you before, thankfully has never eaten you. You stand there, shouting as you shoot off rounds into a zombie standing a few feet beside you. They twitch from the spray of bullets and collapse to the floor.
You look absolutely stunning under those fluorescent flickering lightbulbs. J stops walking and continues to stare at you. He cocks his head to the side, unable to understand. He found you completely and utterly enchanting.
Your hair was sticking to your forehead with sweat and your eyes darted from zombie to zombie. If J's heart was still beating, it would surely be ramming in his chest right now. So beautiful and so-
"HEY!" Suddenly, J's shoulder twitches and he's jerked backwards. J looks down to see his bleeding shoulder. No feeling of course, everything's numb. His blood is a dark rust color, staining his dirty shirt. No pain. He looks back up to see Perry smirking and nodding, proud of his shot.
J suddenly feels angry. J growls deeply from his throat and lunges at Perry. He grabs his ankle, yanking him from his stance and making him tumble. J hears a satisfying crack of Perry's skull as he hits it off the corner of the countertop before falling in an isle way in front of J.
Perry is motionless now, eyes blanks staring at the ceiling and gun scattered across the floor. J dropped to his knees and grabbed Perry's head. As much as he hated it, Perry smelled delicious. J looked down to see a watch enclosed around Perry's wrist. Nice watch. He sighed dryly and got to business.
I'm not proud of it. I do not like hurting people but this is the world now. This new hunger is a very powerful thing. If I don't eat everything, if I save his brain, he will stand up and become just like me. If I do..I take his memories, his thoughts and feelings.
I'm sorry, I can't help it. The brain is the best part. The brain is the only part that makes me feel human again.
By now, J is holding pieces of Perry's brain in his bloody hands. He inhaled deeply, hearing himself groan out in hunger and shove the brains in his mouth. He munches and chews, content as he fills his stomach.
After a few minutes of getting dazed off by thinking of how Perry's life was, J heard your voice again.
"PERRY!? PERRY!?" You shouted, frantic as you scanned the room for his face. J looked down to see the mangled and eaten face of Perry. j looked down at his hands, clumps of brains stuck to him. He gulped, wiping his hands messily on his jacket.
He stands up, spotting you hiding under a counter. There isn't many zombies still alive. It's just J, Mark, and two other zombies. The rest are piled on the floor with gaping holes in their heads.
J shuffles over to you, seeing you raise your gun to his face. You pull the trigger but nothing comes out. You ran out of bullet awhile ago. Your eyes grow wide as you see a zombie with shamble his way towards you. He wore a torn up green jacket and disheveled dark brown hair.
His right foot dragged a bit and his face was freshly smeared with blood. You crammed yourself against the wall, breathing heavily as his clouded blue eyes locked with yours. Raspy breaths left his chapped lips as he slowly made his way towards you.
He stopped, struggling but dropping to one knee. He groaned softly, sniffing the air. He smelled your scent. You smelled of sweat, dirt, and flowers. J gulped again, opening and closing his mouth.
You breathed through your nose, flickering your eyes towards your best friend who was currently hiding under a desk across from you. Your gun clenched tightly in your hands you watched this zombie struggle to try and..do what?
You were confused as to why he hadn't attacked you yet. He didn't seem aggressive, yet. He didn't even seem interested in eating you. J looked around the room for a moment before settling on your face again. You were even prettier up close. He could see your skin was smooth and soft, not rotting and a bit rancid like his was.
"(Y....y.....y/N..)" J forced your name through his lips. Although it was raspy and broken language, your head shot up at the sound of your name. You gasped, eyes widening more as he said it one more time.
His voice was scratchy but soft and..did you hear an accent? You shook your head, blinking a few times before thinking you saw his lips upturn into a small smile. You jumped a bit as you saw his hand reach out towards you.
You turned your head but remained as still as possible as J smeared a decent amount of blood across your cheek and forehead. You made a face, trembling as you tried to keep your breathing under control.
"S...s...safe. Come." J forced through dry lips, nodding slowly and smearing more on you neck. You cringed at the warm feeling of the blood and took as feeble breaths as possible. You stare up at this zombie who's hand is slowly motioning to follow him.
Your lips parted in surprise, your mind unable to wrap around the thought that this zombie, this deceased human being, is talking to you. You look over at the three zombies eating away at the corpses and shivered.
Standing up slowly, J stares at you. He grips your sleeve gently, tugging you in the direction he's walking. You hold your breath, feeling chills run up and down your spine. J looks back at you, seeing your frightened expression and rigid posture.
J wanted to comfort her, to tell her she's going to be okay. He sighs and nods, tugging her sleeve as they get closer to the front door. Mark looks up from his feast to lay his eyes on the girl. He growls at you, standing up as blood drips from his chin. J stands in front of you and shakes his head.
Mark looks surprised as he points at you. J shakes his head again, groaning quietly and tugging. Mark stands there, still chewing as he watches you walk out the door. His eyes burn into the back of your head until the door closes behind you. You swallow hard, realizing your being kidnapped by a zombie.
J looks back at you and tries to smile, showing a set of blackened and rotting teeth. You follow willingly, your mind too warped and aching to try and understand anything.
I'm being kidnapped by a zombie..
(Next part is coming up :D)
