   Long ago, in the faraway land of Ancient Greece, there was a golden age of powerful gods and extraordinary heroes. However, the strongest and greatest and strongest heroes of them all was the mighty Hercules.
   Even as a baby, Hercules was greater than anyone has ever seen. His mother and father, Herra and Zeus, loved him with every fiber of his being. All seems fair and well, but there's an evil form lurking in the shadows of Hercules's arrival.
   If there's one god you don't want to get steamed up, it's Hades. He had an evil plan brewing in his mind.  Hades ran the underworld but he thought the dead were dull and uncouth. He was as mean as he was ruthless. He had a plan to shake things up.
   Mount Olympus lays at dusk, the sky turned a dark magenta and orange. The god of night flew across the sky in his chariot, bringing the night-time sky with him. Baby Hercules was sleeping his crib. He was a tiny baby with crystal blue eyes with a head full of bushy dark chocolate hair.
   Hade's two henchman creep into the room where Hercules slept. Zeus and Herra slept in the other room, cuddled up to each other and snoring away. Suddenly, the sound of glass breaking and panicked muttering came from the baby room. The sound was enough to wake both gods up, blinking sleepily and looking around confused.
   Once the two arrive, the crib is empty and Hercules is being lifted through the air by the two henchman. Making it to safety, they lay the kid down on the ground and shove a pink vial in his mouth. This causes Hercules to lose all immortality.
   He has to drink the whole vial, every last drop. As the two watch him guzzle the liquid, a woman and a man come around the corner with lanterns. The henchman panic, dropping the baby and running for cover. The vial breaks against a rock and one pink drop of the formula splashed against the ground.
   The two mortals hear the baby crying and rush to his aid, picking him up and comforting him. His glow had returned, including his powers and his strength. He didn't drink every last drop. They then took him away to their home where they would raise them as one of their own.
   It was tragic. Zeus led all the gods on a frantic search. By the time they found the baby, it was too late. Young Hercules was mortal now but since he did not drink the last drop, he still regained his god-like strength.
   Zeus and Herra wept for the loss of their precious son. Their son could never come home. They'd have to watch their baby grow up from afar. Though Hades' horrible plan was hatched before Hercules's first tooth, the boy grew stronger everyday.

This is the story of Hercules...

~~~~~~~~~~~~~
   Hercules sat alone on a grassy hill by his small house. He could see his village down the countryside, the destruction he caused. After a fatal throw of a frisbee, he managed to knock down several pillars and collapse a few shops along the way.
   A crowd of angry villagers surrounded Hercules after the incident and bantered him with insults and name calling. He never was the kind to fit in easily. No one knew the power he possessed, not even him.
   His "father", Amphitryon, found him sitting amongst a tree stump and looking out beyond the horizon. He crouched next to his son and placed a comforting hand on his shoulder.
   "Son, you shouldn't let those things they said back there get to you." Hercules looked up and sighed anyway, shaking his head and looking away.
   Geek, Destructo Boy, Jerkules, freak....
   "But Pop, they're right. I-I am a freak. I try to fit in, I really do. I just can't. Sometimes..I feel like...like I really don't belong here. Like I'm supposed to be..someplace else." Hercules said, his Irish accent pushing through. He always wondered why neither of his parents carried the same accent.
   "Hercules, Son.." His father started, looking down at the ground and rubbing the back of his neck. He knew this day would come and he knew one day he would have to tell Hercules.
   "I know it doesn't make any sense." Hercules mumbled, standing up and walking over to a lake near his house. His father followed quietly, pursing his lips and looking conflicted. Hercules picked up a flat rock from the dirt and easily skipped it across the water. It went halfway across the lake before disappearing into the murky waters.
   He looked behind him when he felt the same hand on his shoulder. He turned to see his father staring solemnly at him. His father sighed heavily before grabbing his wrist and tugging him gently back towards the house.
   "Hercules, there's something your mother and I have been meaning to..to tell you.." With a million questions running through Hercules's head, he willingly followed his father back to the house.
   "But If you found me, then where did I come from? Why was I left here?" Hercules asked, several questions rattling from his mouth once his "parents" explained everything to him. His mother, Alcmene, pulled a necklace from her pocket and handed it to him.
   "This was around your neck when he found you. It's the symbol of the gods." Hercule's mouth opened in shock at the sound of the gods. He ran his thumb over the medallion, feeling every bump and groove. His excitement grew as he looked up at his parents who taken a more somber expression.
   "This is it! Don't you see!? Maybe they have the answers! I'll go to the temple of Zeus and.." He started rambling, his words rushed from eagerness. He stopped himself short when he finally saw the tears shimmering in his mother's eyes. His shoulders dropped, his smile melting into a frown.
   "Oh Mom...Pop...you're the greatest parents anyone could have..but I-I gotta know.." The two parents looked at each other. With heavy hearts, they both nodded. They couldn't keep this boy locked away from the real truth. He deserved to know where he came from, where he belonged.
   The next morning, Hercules was eager to start his adventure. With a cloth bag slung over his shoulder, he hugged his father and kissed his mother's cheek. With a final wave of goodbye, he set off over the hill and walked along a dirt path.
   "I am on my way, I can go the distance. I don't care how far, somehow I'll be strong. I know every mile will be worth my while. I would go almost anywhere to find where I belong." He sang under his breath, looking at the morning sun just peeking over the horizon.
   After a lot of walking, he reached the temple of Zeus. He enters cautiously, sliding the bag off and setting it down. He grasped his medallion that dangles around his neck, rubbing the Hercules symbol. In front of him lay the huge marble statue of Zeus who sits on his throne. Hercules kneels and bows his head, hands threaded together.
   "Oh mighty Zeus. Please..hear me, and answer my prayer. I need to know who am I? Where do I belong?" He sits there, listening for any reply. After a few moments of silence, a chilled breeze rushes through the stone temple. Before he could react, a bolt of lightning strikes the statue of Zeus.
   Hercules gasps in surprise, jolting up and falling on his butt. Lightning crackles all over the stone and it suddenly starts to take life. The stone fingers of Zeus twitch until they rip themselves free from the throne. His legs start moving, then his arms, then finally his head.
   Hercules gawks in surprise, eyes widening as he watched the statue of Zeus talk to him. Zeus looked down at him in awe, a huge smile on the mighty stone's face.
   "My boy. My little Hercules." Zeus says, reaching a giant hand down to grab Hercules. He starts screaming, trying to run away from the living statue.
    "AHHHHH!" He screams in fear, dodging Zeus's grabs and attempts to capture the boy. Finally, Zeus grabs him by the ankle and lifts him in the air. Dangling, Hercules thrashes around.
   "Hey, hey, hey! Hold on kiddo! What's your hurry? After all these years this is the kind of hello you give your father?" Hercules froze, looking up at the statue in shock. He shook his head, being set down in the palm of Zeus's hand.
   "F-F-Father?"
   "Didn't know you had a famous father, did you? Surprise! Look how you've grown. Why, you've got your mother's beautiful eyes, and my strong chin! Hah!"
   "I don't understand. If you're really my father, that would make me a-"
   "A god."
   "A god...a god!?" The surprise was evident in Hercules's voice, his hands grasping his hair tightly and shaking his head.
   "Hey, you wanted answers and by thunder you're old enough now to know the truth." Hercules nodded slowly, his surprise fading into sadness. He rubbed his shoulder, looking down at his feet before sheepishly back up to his real father.
   "But why'd you leave me on earth? Didn't you want me?"
   "Of course we did. Your mother and I loved you with all of our hearts. But someone stole you away from us and turned you mortal. Only gods can live on Mount Olympus." Hercules started pacing back and forth in Zeus's hand, biting his lip.
   "And you can't do a thing?"
   "I can't, Hercules, but you can." The news perked his ears and his head shot up to listen to every word Zeus had to say.
   "R-Really? Wh-What? I-I'll do anything."
   "Hercules, if you can prove yourself a true hero on earth, your god-hood will be restored."
    "A true hero. Great! Uh...exactly how do you become a true hero?"
   "First, you must seek out Philoctetes, the trainer of heroes."
   "Seek out Philoctetes. Right, I'll-" As he's talking, he paces more and more and ends up walking right off of Zeus's hand. Luckily, Zeus catches him and placed him back in his palm.
   "Whoa, whoa, hold your horses! Speaking of that.." Zeus mutters, looking around the temple. He uses his free hand to snap his fingers. Suddenly, a white mist appears behind Hercules. Once it swirls and shimmers, it turned into a beautiful white Pegasus. It's wings are grand and tipped with green feathers.
   "Ha ha! You probably don't remember Pegasus..but you two go way back, son." Hercules looks at the Pegasus curiously as it realizes there is an audience watching it. The horse flies over to Hercules, sniffs it, then nudged him.
   Hercules gasped and gave the horse a big hug, rubbing his soft head.
   "He's a magnificent horse. With the brain of a bird." Zeus states, rolling his eyes and smiling. Hercules climbed clumsily into Pegasus, hanging onto its mane tightly.
   "I'll find Philoctetes and become a true hero!"
   "That's the spirit!"
   "I won't let you down father."
   Zeus smiles lovingly down at his son and held his hand higher in the air. He nods, throwing them gently in the air so Pegasus could take flight. Zeus settles back into his throne before he starts to form back into a lifeless piece of marble. Looking one last time over his shoulder, Hercules smiles and kicks the sides of his horse lightly.
   "Good luck, son."
