V. Usability

Just Juice’s manager sets up a website on the Internet to display all juices available on its menu. He discusses the site with Vince Bruno and Associates, who are experts in the design of usable interfaces. Following the meeting the manager goes over his notes to confirm his understanding of the terminology that came up in the meeting.

Explain each of the following terms, and indicate how they might be relevant to the design or evaluation of a usable interface for the website.

EFFICIENCY:

help complete the tasks in less time and effort --> website should allow customers to find menu information, place order faster than the old way

MEMORABILITY:

retention over time by users of their knowledge of how to use a system --> easy to use the website even after not accessing the website for sometime

SUBJECT SATISFACTION:

how much a user likes using various aspects of a system that are relevant to the performance of their task(s)

BEING CONSISTENT:

follow guideline, standard --> use uniform icons, wording, format between web pages

USING SIMPLE AND NATURAL DIALOGUE:

fit user's conceptual model, provide only useful information --> use user language, useful information only

LEARNABILITY:

the time needed for users to gain the knowledge and skills required to use a system in order to perform a set of relevant tasks --> how long it takes to be familiar with the website features
