Chapter 3
Harshini went into her room swiftly, without wasting time she quickly did bath and came out. She quickly wrapped saree and tried to dry her hair with towel.
"Harshi get ready fast" her mother barged inside hurriedly. "Amma I am trying my best to get ready soon, see even the pleats of this saree are not proper. Shall I change into salwar?" She asked even after knowing the answer.
"They are ready to wait but you get ready in a proper presentable manner" her mother warned and went away helping her with saree. With no option left she took out new hair dryer brought by her brother. Her work was easily done making her happy.
Though Harshini is educated, matured girl she didn't adapt to many of this generation. She mentally made a note to thank her brother for his gift which saved her day.
She wore bangles, medium size jhumka matching to her attire. She applied kajal and a small bindi. Slowly braiding her hair she pinned jasmine flowers into it. Finally she took a look of herself in the mirror and came out of the room.
Varshith joined her immediately after noticing her standing outside the door tensedly. "Harshi! How was your presentation? What about the final result?" he asked slowly in excited tone.
"Here I am tensed about this match and you are not concerned about it. I won't tell you anything regarding presentation" she said in frustration. "Ok get ready for my.." before Varshith completes her mother joined them.
Harshini sat opposite to Nandini and Varshith sat beside her with a smile. Seeing his little sister tensed he held her palm between to hide from all the people present.
Abhiram still kept looking at her feet, the aura she created around him was so strong that he is tensed to see her. His heart beat increased and he felt drained as if he ran a marathon.
"She is my daughter Harshini" Srinivas said to break the silence. Raghuram immediately liked the girl noticing his son's reaction. He somehow guessed that these two are meant to be together.
"Abhi you can't be like this... Look at her man, she will not kill you" he gave himself pep talk. Finally he looked at her and she did really kill him with that smile on her face. All his tension turned into vapour just like that and happiness filled his heart.
On the other side Harshini looked at the couple in front of her, she felt they are of same age like her parents. She tried to look at Abhiram but restrained. It's her first time a groom coming to see her, till then only groom's family came.
"So Harshini.." Nandini said loudly alerting everyone. Harshini always hated the typical interview of bride in the match making process.
"Will you continue your studies after marriage?" Nandini asked. Both brother and sister felt the question reasonable.
"Yes I would like to, afterall I am working hard for this. I can't leave it incomplete after starting it" Harshini answered impressing Abhi with her explanation.
"Do you want to do job?" Nandini asked casually.
"It depends on the family I get after my wedding" she spoke out truth shocking her parents.
Abhiram felt honesty in her words, even for namesake she didn't say 'if you allow' making it clear that she is not influenced.
"Do you know washing? Have you washed clothes manually?" Nandini asked shocking everyone. Abhi and his father were confused thinking what happened to Nandini.
"Yeah she knows, infact she is the famous dhobi of our area" Varshith said funnily in a very low tone.
Harshini pressed her lips tightly trying not to laugh. What they didn't know was Abhi could hear them as he was sitting near to them diagonally.
Harshini just nodded her head not knowing what to answer.
"Do you know cooking?" Nandini asked making it sound like old typical movie scene.
"Maybe she will start catering services if you cook" Varshith joked again and Abhi smiled listening it. He already liked Varshith but this guy's nature to make his sister ease up stole his heart.
In normal circumstances Harshini would be laughing loudly but she controlled herself. Varshith pinched her and she slapped him. All this was happening silently which no one noticed except Abhi.
"Can you be more specific Mrs. Raghuram regarding which type of cooking?" Harshini asked in a formal tone which she uses with the clients in her office earning angry glare from her mother.
Nandini got surprised and confused, Raghuram kept smiling thinking Nandini deserves this.
"Harshini" her father said coldly, "I am sorry Aunty, I know basic cooking" she said hoping she didn't hurt Mrs. Nandini.
"Well that's good dear" Nandini smiled which relieved Harshini otherwise her mother would have punished her with an overnight lecture on manners.
Varshith kept smiling goofily while Harshini gave him a grumpy look. Suddenly she got reminded about Abhi, gathering her courage she looked at him who was talking to her father now.
Everything around her seemed to stopped for a second, she got a different feeling which she couldn't name at that point of time.
"I should have dressed better, no even if I did it's no where matched to him" she thought. "I think Harshini and Abhi should have a talk in private" Raghuram proposed after few conversations.
Harshini already knows the answer is no from her father, she sat confidently with a sad smile. Why will she get an opportunity to know about a guy who is still a stranger? she wondered.
"Yes why not" Varshith said immediately "Dad these days it's common and we should adapt" he added. Srinivas could not deny it as his son already agreed, "Harshini! Show our terrace to Abhi, both of you can talk in peace" Srinivas said surprising Harshini.
All this happened because of her brother, she couldn't stop admiring Varshith for the way he is standing for her. "First regarding my career and now my marriage. How many times should I thank you?" Harshini said coming out near the steps.
"You deserve it Harshi, in this fast generation I have seen girls getting freedom more than needed. Here you obey to whatever our parents say, I am selfish for you. I want all best things for a good daughter like you" Varshith said proudly.
"Shall we?" Abhi asked breaking the bro-sis moment. "Don't be shy, speak to him whatever you want" Varshith encouraged his sister.
Abhiram missed his sister Divya at that moment seeing both of them. "Did I really cared about Divya this much?" Abhiram wondered.
While he was busy in studies Divya got married, he didn't get much time to know her wishes and her opinion during her wedding. Still he is happy as he knows her sister is in safe hands. He wanted to ensure the same to Varshith if Harshini accepts to marry him.
