He owes five dollars

MJ was awaken by her mother, smiling at her. Her mom had finally returned from work late last night, which filled MJ with joy. Her mom would put a brief pause in the war between MJ and her father. But nothing was permanent.

"Morning sunshine, it's a weekend!" Her mom smiled, lashing her perfect teeth.

"Yeah, and?" MJ smirked.

"Well you get the whole day to do what you want! Except later I want to go see that new movie.. what was it again?" Her mom stood up straighter and wandered to the opposite side of the room. MJ sat up in her bed with a groggy facial expression.

"Age of Redemption?" MJ offered.

"Yes! That alien movie, or something. It can be just you and me today, sound good?" Her mom said kindly. Though she was a bit lost in her own words it seemed.

"That would be perfect." MJ smiled back at her mom weakly.

"Any ways, are you up for breakfast? I can make your favorite toad in the hole! Eggs, ham and toast... ay?" Her mom seemed a bit too cheerful for MJ's liking, but the girl was to glad her mom was here to even care.

"Actually... I'm not hungry." MJ lied. She really just didn't want to risk going out of her room, seeing her dad, and him exposing her secret. Or more of, Peter's secret.

"Oh, well that's to bad. Come out when you're ready." Her mom went to leave the room.

"Mom?" MJ pulled her covers off.

"Yes honey?"

"Get some sleep before the movie, you've been up for over 45 hours." MJ dragged herself out of bed and approached her mom.

"I have to do stuff though.. The apartment's a mess." Her mom made excuses.

"Look, dad or I will clean it. You don't need to worry." MJ offered.

"Ok." Her mom hugged MJ. MJ hugged her back for about 20 seconds before her mom left the room.

It was Saturday, so she had a lot of time on her hands without the interruption of school. So MJ returned to her art project. She pulled the poster board from behind her bed, which was really more like a large piece of paper. She laid it on her art desk, and looked at what she'd already don't. Spiderman and her, a simple sketch. But was it enough? No, it was unfinished.

She pondered the question brutally of whether or not she should finish it, or throw it in the garbage.

Grabbing her painting utensils, she was ready to work. She started with a base coat on it, filling a basic red color on his suit, and skin tones for their faces. She worked more on his appearance, making herself look more or less like a blob of sorts, with eyes and a mouth. She took lighter tones of each given color, and really started to make the painting become more real, loved.

She was using a small pointed brush to make Spider man seem more... genuine, real, she couldn't really describe it.

"Thats a nice picture." Said a voice behind her. MJ jumped up from the shock, or surprise, and plummeted to the floor off her own chair. She let out a small yelp in doing so.

Looking up she saw Peter, equating on the ceiling. MJ pouted her lip, and blew her bangs out of her face. She didn't even bother to get up off the floor, she just lay there in slight after shock. But maybe it was also laziness.

"What are you doing here?" She asked, trying to fight back a smile.

"Is it wrong that I'm here?" Her gave a playful smirk, still sitting on the ceiling. He wasn't even in his alter ego's costume. He was actually in Pajamas still. Hello kitty Pajamas?

"No." MJ sat up. "But my mom likes to randomly come in my room without knocking, that's all.

"I can hide really fast." He replied, offering a hand to her. She took his hand and stood up. Now their faces were lined up, except to her he was upside down and too him she was upside down.

"I Bet you five dollars you can't." MJ said playfully.

"I bet you ten that I can." He grinned ear to ear.

"Hey MJ, I forgot to tell you that-" Her mom suddenly reentered the room. She froze, staring at Peter on the ceiling in pure surprise. She went completely silent.

"Yeah, you hide really fast." MJ muttered in Peter's direction. "Pay up."

"MJ, w-w-what is going on?" Her mom stammered. MJ smiled sheepishly. Peter was frozen in shock, or perhaps he felt really dumb in that moment, and had no idea where he would find five dollars.

"I- I can explain!" MJ rushed over to her mom and shut the door. "But dad must not know! I mean.. he sort of knows..?" She got quieter the longer she spoke.

"You , you have a lot of explaining to do than missy!" Her mom folded her arms. She was still staring at Peter though, trying to piece together the fact he was a so called normal looking boy who was sitting on her daughter's ceiling.

"o-ok. So um.." MJ glanced back at Peter. "Thats Peter, he owes me five dollars." She emphasized the last part. "And um Peter, this is my mom. Yay."

"Hi?" Peter finally spoke. He offered his hand to shake. MJ's mother took it, awkwardly because how do you shake some one's hand upside down?

"Hi? I'm MJ's mother, Mrs. Jones." She tried to be formal, but the situation was too strange to even begin to find proper words to fit it. "How are you on Michelle's ceiling?"

Peter made a face of nothing. Well it wasn't nothing really, he just contorted and twisted it to look like a frog or something. And his eyes kinda bulged out a little. He looked at MJ for help, which MJ was totally not going to do. Instead she threw him right under the bus on its way to hell.

"He's spider man." She said flatly. Peter made a noise that sounded like some one screaming into a pillow. He jumped off the ceiling quickly.

"N-no I'm not. I swear! ITs a cool magic trick that's all!" He tried to cover it up. But that was like sprinkling dirt on an elephant and expecting it to be completely hidden.

"And I'm assuming that those devices on your wrist are also for magic?" Mrs. Jones joined forces with her daughter.

"Y-yeah?" Peter knew all was lost. "Ok fine that was a lie. I a-am spider man, your daughter is SO NICE FOR SAYING THAT" He said through gritted teeth.

"Ok with that aside, why is he in your room!?" Her mother fumed.

"And this is the hard part." MJ sighed.

"Oh yeah, that's the hard part?!" Peter scowled. "Cause my secret identity is not a big deal at all!" He folded his arms dramatically.

"Well its simple to say and I didn't expect her to actually believe it." MJ pouted.

"Might as well tell every one now. You know, Ned knows, your dad knows, my aunt knows, and NOW YOUR MOTHER KNOWS!" Peter exclaimed.

"Well you broke your promise to my dad!" MJ fought back.

"I didn't break it! I told you if he-"

"SSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSHSH!" MJ put her hand over his mouth. "The mother must not have knowledge of this."

"Yeah!?" He pulled her hand off his mouth. "Well I-"

"You guys sound like bickering siblings. Get to the point." Mrs. Jones tapped her foot.

"You tell her." Peter looked at his feet.

"I can't! You do it!" MJ started blushing.

"She's your mom! I literally met her like 2 seconds ago, I can't tell her! You do it!" Peter sounded frantic.

"No, she'll take it better if you say it." MJ hid her red face.

"I-"

"Oh my god guys you are so bad at this!" Her mom drooped her shoulders, wearing an expression of pure annoyance. The two teenagers fell silent. "Are you two dating or something?" She practically stabbed them with her words.

"Um..." Peter was now also red.

"Yes." MJ's voice was muffled by her hands.

"Ok, what else?" Her mom raised an eyebrow.

"Nothing really.." MJ trailed her voice off quietly.

"yes." Peter said at the same time MJ spoke. The both looked at each other wide eyed. "Wait I mean no!" He changed his answer after her death glare.

"Ok, that means it's something big." Mrs. Jones placed a hand on her hip.

"No it doesn't!" MJ smiled nervously.

"Did you guys.. you know.." Her mom made a face. "Do stuff?"

"NONONONONO! Nothing like that!" Peter exasperated.

"Is she pregnant?" Her mom asked.

"No." They said in unison.

"Then what?" Her eyes fell to Peter's exposed ankle where his soul mark rested. Her face changed its confused expression to an understanding one. "You guys are soulmates?"

"Yes...?" MJ said sheepishly.

"Good."
