Wedding Day: [Fiona x Gumball]
Wedding Day: [Fiona x Gumball]
× × ×
"Don't fuss," Cake hissed at me, drawing my hair back into a tight, intricate bun. I was sitting in a cold metal chair, my eyes closed as my sister - and best friend - Cake, did my makeup. I felt the brush sweep across my cheek, my nose twitching. "Move again and I'll beat you with the comb. Now, SIT STILL."
I kept my eyes closed and listened to faint rustle of cloth on cloth. A few minutes later, Cake spun me around, facing the mirror. Of course my eyes were still closed, but I somehow knew once I opened my eyes I would never be the same. Well, after today I wouldn't be the same. I'd be someone else. But I'd also be myself. "Okay baby, open your eyes..." I slowly opened my eyes and gasped loudly as I glanced in the mirror. I didn't look like Fiona Mertens anymore; I looked a woman.
My long, floor length blonde hair was in a bun placed atop my head, one lonesome tendril of pale hair sweeping against my cheek ever so lightly. My eyes, big and blue, seemed to be much larger. There was black and baby blue eyes shadow shading in my lids, and then transitioned into a soft grey. There was some eyes liner that formed into two symmetrical wings on either side, giving my eyes the older and more sophisticated look. My lips were a pastel red and made my perfect white teeth stand out.
"Awe baby girl, you're so beautiful!" Cake wiped some tears away from her eyes and then took a deep breath. "He's gonna get blown away. I promise you that." I smiled at Cake and then stood up.
"Okay, now that this is done, where's my dress?" I didn't want her fawning over me much more; she was going to burst into tears.
"Uh, yeah. Over there." I walked to where Cake's hand had stretched to, and I swallowed the lump in my throat. It was absolutely beautiful.
The dress came down past my feet, with a long train that splayed all around. It was tight at the waist and flowed down into a poufy paradise. Up above the waist it was low cut, showing cleavage tastefully, and little gold trimming decorating the edges. It was spaghetti strapped, and accentuated my features. Everything today was perfect; although I was more than a little unsure.
"We have half an hour Fiona," Cake whispered. "We have to get ready soon." I nodded, trying to fight the impending tears. It was my big day, and nothing was going to ruin it. Soon enough I was into my wedding dress, feeling the most beautiful I've ever felt in my life. I didn't feel like a petty adventurer anymore: I felt like a woman. "Okay honey, I got you a present." I frowned.
"You didn't need to get me anything Cake. Just you being here makes up for anything you could've bought me." Cake laughed, pulling something out of her dress pocket.
"Well...it's really old tradition, but I heard when you get married, you need something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue." I shook my head.
"Who cares?" Cake gasped.
"I do! Now come here so I can put this on you."
Cake dragged me over to the full length mirror, and I couldn't help but look at myself. She then held up two big blue sapphires dangling from a chain. They were earrings.
"I got these from mom before she died...something old, and blue you know..." I could tell Cake was a second from sobbing.
"Calm down Cake. I love it!" I gave cake a hug, burying my face into the crook between her neck and shoulder.
"Okay, no more tears!" she exclaimed. "Now something borrowed. This is Peppermint Maids garter, she said she wants it back." I blushed.
"And for something new, I got you this." Cake pulled out a headband, and I inhaled sharply. It was a bunny headband, but on it was a veil that came down to cover my face. My name was embroidered on it in golden letters.
"Thank you so much!" I squealed. "I will never, ever forget today."

"C'mon baby," Cake ushered me out the door, having me standing in line. I was at the very end. First was my flower girl, who was BMO, even though I wasn't really sure what he/she was. I mean it was robot so no real sex. I usually called it a he though. Anyway, BMO was in the front, a pretty pink bow atop his head and a small basket of candy flowers in his mechanical arms. Next was my bridesmaids. Peppermint Maid was the first one, wearing a pink dress and headband rather than her little maid outfit she usually wore.
Next was Ice Queen; I know what you're thinking. Why did I invite her? She was lonely. She had no one and plus, she would've crashed the wedding anyway. It was easier to ask her to be my bridesmaid, and plus, she made me maid of honor at her fake wedding with Old Man Prince, although she ended up hypnotizing him, and forced me to beat the junk out of her. She actually very ecstatic when I asked her to be my bridesmaid, and cried. I had to hold her for a while. My last bridesmaid was Mrs. Pig, Tree Trunk's wife. Cake was my maid of honor.
"Fiona are you okay? You look a little sick? Do you need me to freeze you? You look sweaty." Ice queen tapped my shoulder and started to form an ice pack in her palms.
"No! I mean, I'm fine." Cake gave me a sharp look.
"You better be. I didn't spend three hours making your pretty face prettier just for you to puke and have the wedding cancelled." I nodded, swallowing the large lump in my throat. "Thanks Ice Queen," I said. She nodded, fixing the hem of her pink dress. I think pink didn't do justice to her blue Queen dress, but whatever. Ice Queen wasn't so bad; you know when she wasn't kidnapping princes or being all psycho loco.
"Oh, where's my mom?" I asked Cake. Cake shrugged. We figured she wasn't gonna come...not even to walk me down the aisle. Good thing Cake planned for this. We figured she'd bail, so Cake took my mom's place, and hooked her arm in mine.
"I got you baby," she whispered in my ear. It wasn't the first time she let me down; surely it wouldn't be the last. Letting everything go, I sharply took a breath and then said, "Don't let me fall," to Cake. She nodded and gripped me harder. Ice Queen, who was in front of us, walked forward, her smile bursting with joy. She didn't look so bad when she cleaned up and wasn't trying to force people to love her, (how does she expect anyone to love her when she doesn't love herself?)
Then the wedding song came on. My heart beat against my rib cage as Cake and I slowly descended down the hall. The more we walked down, the louder the music became, and the harder my heart beat. I was extremely nervous, but also excited. I was going to start a new life. I was going to be a Queen, and shed that adventurer girl nonsense. I was going to have responsibility, a husband, and a kingdom that loved me. It was all I would ever need. The piano song, March of the Candy Men, rung in my ears, seeming to ease my nerves just a bit.
One step at a time, I told myself, and then Cake and I pushed through the doors, the murmur of the crowd rustling as I came into view.
Red flooded my cheeks and I was suddenly feeling like a small girl once more. It reminded me of my miscellaneous crush from when I was but a babe.
My eyes searched for his, but were momentarily distracted by the profusion of white blossoms that hung around me, all different colors from white, to pink, to blue. Gossamer ribbons dripped from wall to wall, sodden in sparkly particles and colorful stripes. I tore my eyes from the beautiful scene to another view; my fiancé. Past all the anxious and awestruck onlookers was the row of best men, bridesmaids, and then finally him.
All I really saw was his face; his usually perfect pink hair was even more impeccable, meticulously gelled up with precise precision. Down over that, was his beautiful pale pink skin, highlighting his big and bright green eyes. His eyes weren't looking at me until I stared at him for a good five seconds, and then they widened. The smile that broke put on his face was amazing, and made me want to take a picture for the moment to last forever. His suit was his usual color, pink and slightly form fitting, a purple stripe adorning his collar.
Suddenly it was only the pressure of Cake's arm' holding down my own that kept me from sprinting down the aisle. Gumball held out his hand, and I took it, releasing Cake. She gave me one last longing look, tears fearfully hanging onto her lashes for dear life; she didn't want her baby to grow up. It was just he and I now. Our vows were simple, traditional, and probably had been spoken millions of times. But to me, they were heartfelt. In that moment, as the minister said his dutiful phrases, my world, which had been turned upside down and shaken sideways, seemed to settle down in its rightful place.
I looked into Gumballs shining, victorious eyes and knew that I was winning too. Because nothing else mattered as long as we were together.
I hadn't realized I was crying until it was time to say the requisite words.
"I do," I managed out in an almost incoherent whisper, blinking through the tears.
When it was his turn, the words were loud, clear, and thorough. "I do," he vowed.
The minister smiled broadly at us, and then lifted our hands together. "I now declare Fiona Mertens, and Prince Gumball, husband and wife, king and queen of the Candy Kingdom!"
