Diamond in the Rough

Adrien made it back to the palace with the guard on horse back. The other guards took Marinette and Alya to the dungeons using another route. Adrien quickly changed into his royal apparel and started looking for Lila.

Lila and Chris were coming out of their secret room at the end of the hall. Lila was out first and Chris decided to be funny and take his time.

"Lila?" Lila heard Adrien's voice and quickly closed the secret door, getting Chris stuck in between.

"Awk! Lila I'm stuck!" Lila ignored Chris and quickly made herself look pretty.

"How may I be of service to you, your majesty?" Lila said in her most friendliest and innocent voice, bowing and using her cape to cover Chris who was still stuck in the door.

Adrien didn't care how friendly Lila was trying to sound because he just shot out, "The guards just took two girls from the market, on your orders."

"Well, your majesty, your father has charged me with keeping the peace in Agrabah. Those two were criminals after all."

"Oh, really? What was the crime?" Adrien was still pissed.

"Lila, I can't breathe!" Chris said only loud enough for Lila to hear, but she still only smiled at Adrien. Lila kicked him back in. "Wow, that hurt!"

"Why, kidnapping the prince, of course," she answered Adrien innocently.

"They didn't kidnap me! I ran away!"

Lila gasped as if she were shocked. "Oh, my! This is terrible! If only I knew."

"What do you mean?" Adrien's tone dropped from upset to sad in under one second.

"Sadly, the sentence for the girl with the dark hair has already been carried out, as well as the brown haired girl."

"What sentences?" Adrien sounded anxious.

"The brown haired girl is going to spend life in the dungeons, whereas the dark haired girl's sentence, because she seemed most involved with the supposed kidnapping, is death-"

"NO!!" Adrien fell to the floor and started tearing up.

"-by beheading," Lila finished. This made Adrien even more upset. Lila went over to Adrien and apologized, "I am extremely sorry, your majesty."

"How could you?" Adrien looked into her eyes when he said this and then he ran off.

Chris finally got through the door. He flew up to Lila's shoulder and he was coughing.
"So, how did it go?" he asked, finally speaking normal. Lila looked in the direction Adrien ran in and answered, still smiling, "I really hate seeing him like this, but he believed it. That street rat never had a chance."

Adrien cried on his bed. Plagg came to comfort him and Nino came in, too. He took a seat next to Adrien.

"Whoa, dude, what happened?" he asked. Adrien calmed down just enough to tell him, "It's all my fault, Nino. I didn't even know her name."

"What are you talking- - wait! "Her"?! You mean to tell me that you met a girl in the market? What happened? Didn't she like you? Did she find out that you're the prince? No, if she found out you're the prince of course she'd love you-" Nino rambled on for like that for a few seconds, then Adrien stopped him.

"No, nothing like that. You see, it started with this child staring at some bread," Adrien told him the whole story. At the end, Nino was angry. He never liked Lila since she showed up. He told Adrien to talk to his dad about it because it wasn't exactly legal for Lila to do that without the Sultan's permission. Adrien nodded.

Down in the dungeons, Marinette and Alya were chained to the wall. Marinette was trying to struggle out, but it didn't work at all, while Alya looked like she was trying to reach an itch that was on her head.

"He was the prince?" Marinette asked herself out loud. "I don't believe it. I must've sounded so stupid to him!"

Just then, Alya reached the itch, but she didn't actually have an itch, she was trying to grab her hair pin! She grabbed it and, like a pro, she unlocked her own lock and chains that held her captive.

"Hey, Mari!" she got Marinette's attention and Marinette was overjoyed.

"Yes! Now, c'mon- -help me outta here!"

Alya just crossed her arms and let out her irritation from earlier, "Oh, now you notice me? Nuh uh! I think I became invisible without knowing after you saved the prince! I saw how you went all googly eyes over him!"

"Hey, he was in trouble," Marinette said in her Marinette voice. "He was worth it though," she went into her daydreaming voice. Alya rolled her eyes and stepped closer to Marinette to help her out.
"Besides, Alya, I'm never going to see him again. He's the prince, and I'm just a- - worthless street rat," Marinette's tone dropped to heart broken. Alya felt sorry for her best friend. Sure, she was ignored the whole time, but she could see Mari was really in love.

"Hey, girl, forget about him. If he doesn't love you for the person you are, then it doesn't matter who he is because he lost the most amazing person in the world," Alya tried to make Marinette feel better.

"Thanks, Alya, but it felt like he- - oh, never mind. The law says only a princess can marry a prince."
Alya got Marinette loose. Marinette held her wrists and said, "I'm such an idiot."

"You're only an idiot if you give up," a new voice joined their conversation. Alya and Marinette looked into the shadows and a lady came out. She wore orange and white clothes that looked like Marinette and Alya's clothes and she leaned on a cane. She was young and quite pretty, having brown hair with orange and white tips. She sounded very friendly, but Marinette didn't trust her at all.

"Who are you?" Marinette asked boldy.

"A humble prisoner, like yourselves. But maybe together, we could be more."

Marinette opened her mouth to speak, but Alya interrupted, "We're listening."

"There's a cave, a Cave of Miracles. Filled with treasure beyond your wildest dreams. Enough to impress a prince I'd bet."

"Lila, could you hurry up? I'm dying in here!" Chris whispered to the lady, who was actually Lila, hiding under her orange cloak. She hit him with her cane.

"That's very interesting," Marinette said sarcastically as Alya listened attentively, "but the law says only a princess can marry - -"

"So you've never heard of the golden rule?" The lady interrupted and laughed. "He who has the gold makes the rules."

"Oh, I've heard of that!" Alya said.

"Well, why would you share the treasure with us if you seem to have everything figured out?" Marinette asked as she crossed her arms.

"Oh, I can't do anything that involves putting too much pressure on my left foot. You see, I twisted it really badly when I stopped this mass murderer from leaving Agrabah. Unfortunately, the guards thought I was the mass murderer and I've been sent down here without getting the care I needed for my foot."
Alya felt super sorry for Lila, but Marinette didn't buy it.

"Oh wow," Marinette rolled her eyes. "One problem though: the treasure is out there, and we're in here."

Lila smiled and went towards the wall. She pushes a block and a secret exit is shown.
"Things aren't always what they seem…"

Alya almost ran to the exit with Lila, but Marinette couldn't take it anymore, "Seriously!? How do we know we can trust you? You came out of no where, tell us about some bizarre treasure and then you need us to get it for you? I don't trust you!"

Alya face palmed. Lila just looked innocent and said, "You don't have to trust me. From what I heard, you really love the prince. But you have a choice, you can escape and continue being a street rat, or you can come and get this 'bizarre' treasure to get your prince. After all, you did say yourself that the law says only a princess can marry the prince."

Marinette thought for a second. She did love the prince and she really wanted to be with him again. She looked back at Lila, she smiled at her, then she looked at Alya, she was nodding saying that she should do it.
She sighed and said, "I'll come with you."
