Part Twenty Three -Forest

I get through my eleven plus
No one's more surprised than us.
We have to buy a uniform
Special sports clothes must be worn.
It will be a big expense
Thank God for the Providence.
They take the money door to door
Encourage you to borrow more.
Let my mum and dad sort that
I look splendid in my cap
Forest Grammar, bottle blue
There'll be no mistaking you.
My best friend Brian's going too
No other kids around us do.
Have to go by bus and train
Late before we're home again.
Evening homework on my knee
Not much playing out for me.
It isn't great for making friends
But friendships' short and always ends.
Things are moving on for me
But Margaret has the other three.
My secondary schooling has begun
But little Susan's only one.
Janette is a clever one
Wendy's like a little mum.
Mum thinks I'm a clever lad
"What about the Maths," says Dad.
I struggle at the Grammar school
Mistake?Should I be there at all?
I dream I'm late, have missed the bus
Are schools like this for such as us?
Now Margaret's precious only son
Is working hard to just cling on.
But that's enough for now about me
We'll move on with the history.

Read on for a fresh episode tomorrow.
