Part Thirty Two - Wedding and ....
Ash, near Aldershot, 1975
Came home early to surprise them all
But sadly learn there's a funeral.
Get home days before the wedding
But find it's tears of grief mum's shedding.
Shortly before her daughter's big day
Margaret's mother passed away.
A wedding and a funeral
Not the way it was planned at all.
Just days before the wedding day
We travel by hearse to the cemetery.
I've come home, been away two years
Find my mother struggling with tears.
She wears a brave face wedding day.
Nothing must spoil what's Wendy's day.
We said goodbye, paid our respects
But must move on, if not forget.
We pass from sad to joyful day
Funereal wreath to bride's bouquet,
White of Wendy's wedding gown,
Guests from Scotland all come down,
Photos mantelpiece adorn.
Another groom in uniform.
Life carries on when we are gone.
Those before us made their mark
A new young bride will now embark
On a journey of her own, new life.
Wendy now a soldier's wife.
In many ways a life like mum's
But won't be such a travelled one.
Meanwhile in Will and Margaret's home
Two daughters still and one grandson.
What of Margaret's life in Ash?
Time to tell you some of that.
