Part Five - Fare
At fourteen then most kids left school
Get a scholarship or leave the rule.
Which meant the end for our poor lamb
For to stay at school you'd to pass an exam.
That meant a journey into town.
So Margaret's face now bore a frown.
For Margaret's Gran wouldn't pay the fare.
And so she'd no way of getting there.
They gave her the test to do on her own.
She would have passed if she could of gone.
But such was the story of her life,
She got no breaks just grief and strife.
So that was the end of her education.
And how she learned to know her station.
