Part Eleven - A Boy

Louise Margaret Military Maternity Hospital, Aldershot - 1952

So Margaret now is twenty two
At long last all the waiting's through.
To Margaret and to Will's great joy.
They had a son, they had a boy.
You may have guessed the boy was me
They had a family, they were three.
Margaret by her childhood haunted
Finally had the child she wanted.
And from the time she hears me cry
I'm the apple of her eye.
At least my sisters tell me so
They're the ones who ought to know.
Mum's birth engendered desperation
But mine is cause for celebration.
All her hopes are pinned on me,
The child she's bouncing on her knee.
Margaret's figure's filling out
She's larger now, there is no doubt.
She hasn't lost the weight she gained.
The extra pounds have been retained.
Her happiness appears complete
But she should be careful what she eats.
All she want's to be a mum
Surely there's more kids to come?
She wants a family to surround her
And to have more kids around her.

The chubby baby at the top of the page is me.
