CHAPTER NO.8

The Chevelle skidded across the ground for about ten seconds, sending sparks all over the place, before grinding to a stop.

I groaned. I felt something wet trickle down my face. Then I realized that my head was bleeding. I put my hand on my head and it came away red with blood.

That's one of the many things that I hated about my invulnerability: it has it's limits. Even though it gives me an edge in a battle, it doesn't help me in incidents like this.

I looked around the smashed contents of the car, noticing that the driver's seat was starting to smoke. Realizing what was about to happen, though very calm about the whole situation, I crawled out of the Chevelle's smashed window, and rolled away from the wreck, moments before the Chevelle burst into flame, sending debris everywhere.

Hermes had managed to drag Chloe out and was lugging her towards the mountains. Chloe looked alright, but I couldn't tell if she was hurt. Staggering to my feet, I followed them which maybe wasn't a good idea when your head felt jackhammered, as if someone was pounding my head with a socket wrench. My vision was a little blurry but not that bad, though it still made me dizzy.

I managed to get halfway to them but then, I heard the sound of chariot wheels.

I looked to my side and saw that it was the group of teenagers from my vision. And they didn't look happy.

They were wearing the standard Cyclone City battle armour and were armed with swords and shields. They had their helmets on, so I couldn't see their faces, but I knew it was them without a doubt. Their chariots were pulled by winged horses, which whined in protest. They landed on the pavement of the road and leaped out of the chariots. They formed a phalanx in seconds, staying a safe distance away from me.

I drew my sword, holding it outstretched to ward them off. "Stay back! I'm warning you!"

One of them came forward. He removed his helmet and I saw that it was the boy who talked to Proculus in the Throne Room. He looked younger than I expected, maybe sixteen years old at least. He had blonde hair and his eyes were a shade of brown, like they were infused with dark chocolate.

Already, I could sense that this was not going to end well.

"You've got nowhere to go, Dimascio," he told me. "Surrender now or die."

"Who are you?" I asked him, stalling for time. I could tell that I have got no chance of getting out of here, unless I could distract them with something. It was the option that I had.

"My name is Jalen, and I'm the second oldest teenager of the Whirlwind Hunters. Now stand down. We don't want to hurt you."

"Stay away from me," I growled viciously. "I'm not going back to Cyclone City."

Jalen raised his hand. "Marcus, listen to me. I don't want to be your enemy, but Lord Proculus demands that you are to be returned. He told us we can have–"

"A place in the Typhoon Army if you bring me and Chloe back," I finished his sentence. "Yes, I know what he said. But he still wants to kill me!"

"Enough of this," Jalen snarled with impatience. He looked at his men. "I had enough of his complaining already. Secure him!"

They hesitated, which made me frown.

Then I noticed that one of them was pointing to the sky. It was ever so slightly, like he had some sort of nervous twitch, but I noticed the movement. He was trying to tell me something. I looked up and saw the clouds circling above me...like it was waiting for me to do something.

I looked back at Jalen, and for some reason, I felt the air intensify around me, felt the wind gain more and more speed. I knew what was happening and I sensed that my eyes flared.

Something to distract them...I could make this work - if I could keep it going.

"I told you that you should've stayed back," I told the soldier in front of me. "But you guys just won't listen."

Jalen frowned. "What are you –?"

Before he could say anything else, I stretched my arms outwards and the sky exploded. A funnel cloud shot downwards and engulfed me in a cyclone of cloud and storm vapour. Black winds encircled me, flashing with lightning and sheets of rain spraying the entire area. Around me, the grass was flattened in a ten meter radius. Pebbles flew around my hurricane.

Jalen and his men scrambled backwards, avoiding all the flying pebbles that rained down on them. When they tried to get close with their shields, my hurricane blasted them backwards with their shields shredded into strips of metal. Their swords shattered into tiny shards when the wind blasted them.

I felt nothing but a wild sensation. Adrenalin coursed through my bloodstream. I felt power – uncontrollable power. My eyes felt like they were filled with fire.

Marcus! Chloe's voice screamed in my head. Stop!

I looked at where she and Hermes were.

Hermes had bandaged her arm and was using a huge shield to protect them. Chloe was using her bow, sending several arrows at a time, sending most of the Whirlwinds into a panic, retreating from my sister's exploding energy arrows. Hermes was sending balls of energy at them, causing them to be blasted backwards.

Chloe, I can't stop! I yelled back to her in her mind. I'm only doing this to get them off balance!

There's too many of them, she shouted at me in my head. We've gotta get out of here!

I whistled as loud as I could. But then after I did that, everything went completely wrong.

My hurricane was slowing down, mainly because I was getting tired. It's happened before back in all the training I received from my father, before he disappeared. Pretty soon, the hurricane would stop.

Jalen saw this as an opportunity. He let out a sigh of relief.

"You are so going to pay," he muttered. He let out a shout and charged towards me.

I raised my sword upwards, just as his came crashing down towards my head. Iron met silver, sending sparks flying everywhere. I growled in frustration and pushed outwards, sending the soldier stumbling.

"It's you who's gonna pay the most!" I roared at him.

I rushed forward and started attacking him with my sword. I slashed, punched, sliced, rolled, jumped and then tackled Jalen with all my strength, eventually pinning him to the ground.

After pinning his arms with my knees, I started punching and hammering his unprotected face. I didn't know what was wrong with me. I was acting like a feral animal. But I kept beating the crap out of Jalen.

I felt bones shattering and I instantly stopped. I jumped to my feet, looking at Jalen's unconscious body. I didn't kill him, but if I didn't stop I would've. All the others looked at me with now apparent fear. They kept a short distance away from me.

"I'm warning you now," I growled at them, breathing heavily. "Do not follow us, or you'll regret it."

"Marcus!" Hermes yelled at me. "Look up!"

My Ventus stallion was coming into landing, right in front of Chloe. She waved her hand at me urgently. That broke me out of my stunned daze. I charged right past the Whirlwinds, who instantly let me through for some reason, not even stopping me.

I ran up to Chloe who was frowning at the Hunters.

"Why aren't they attacking us?" she muttered.

"They're frightened!" I cried impatiently. "Let's just get out of here while we can!"

I climbed onto my Ventus's back, grabbing the reins attached to him. Chloe climbed on behind me and wrapped her arms around my waist. Immediately, the stallion bounced into the air, its cloud like wings appearing at its sides. Hermes actually jumped into the air, his shoes extending tiny little wings on their soles.

Hermes flew right in front of us and shot into the clouds, with my storm stallion following him.

The last thing I saw of the Whirlwinds before we entered the clouds was them lifting Jalen's body and carrying him away.

And all I wanted to do was wish that it didn't really happen.
