Day 11 | Scarf

Day 11: Pick up the object on your right and imagine that it is a futuristic weapon. Write 300 words about a battle using only this weapon.

I had a scarf next to me, so that's my weapon. I actually wrote a much longer version of this that I will put in my Writing Exercises book because its rather different prompt. I had fun writing this though, so yay!

Scarf

The guards came rushing at me in one bulky movement. My target disappeared down the corridor, and I was left to fight off the rest of the men nearby.

"Come 'ere little kitten!" One guard shouted, eyes blazing and mouth frothing with the prospect of fresh blood. He thrust his pikestaff forward, intending to catch my unprotected side. I, however, was prepared.

As his staff thrust towards me, I moved, fast as lighting. With one quick movement I shrugged off my large puffy scarf and with the next movement I had it wrapped around the end of his staff. With one twirl I used the momentum of his strike to pull the staff from his surprised hands. As the staff fell, I flicked the scarf and sent the staff flying upwards. The end of the long staff smacked the nearest guard upside the head, sending him reeling backwards, his own weapon dropped on the floor.

As the guards stared in surprise, I let a predatory grin cross my face. Now, to dance.

The guards decided to actually pretend to be competent- one directly in front of me moved in to attack while another behind me attempted to grab my arms. I waited until the last moment before dropping to the ground, guard one's pole hitting guard two in the chest. I struck quick as a snake, slamming my heeled foot into the back of his knees to make him collapse to the floor. It was a good thing that I had worn a very loose dress- while it was picking up dust and blocking my mobility, it was much more functional than the other possible dress which was just as black but clung tight to my body and legs.

As I thought that, I grabbed one of the pike staffs from the floor and jammed the pointy end into the guy behind me. The guard dropped to the floor like a stone, spitting blood. One guard left; easy pickings. I threw the pike staff at him as a distraction, and when he blocked it with his own weapon I wrapped my scarf around his weapon and pulled it bodily from his hands. He was left staring at me with shock until I slammed his head into the nearest wall.

"Now where is my prey?" I whispered, brushing dust from the bottom of my dress. I started down the hallway where he had gone. As I turned the corner, I watched as a cloak wrapped around the end of another long hallway. Without a second thought I sprinted down the hallway. As I did, I felt one of the tiles beneath me depress slightly and I narrowly avoided twenty projectiles that appeared from the wall at face height.

I surveyed the area. A chandelier hung from the ceiling, pointed the wrong way. As it swung back to the right, another twenty projectiles appeared that I narrowly avoided. I flung my scarf towards the hanging lights, and as the next set of projectiles came down the hall I swung forward, using the momentum to turn around the corner. This hallway was much shorter, and led to a single door.

Why not open it? I thought to myself, flinging the door open. It revealed a sitting room furnished with an armchair, a cosy, warm fireplace, and a small table. In the chair I could make out a head of hair Without a second of hesitation I scrunched the scarf in my hand, reached around the chair, and pressed the scarf to the person's face. As I looked down, however, I saw not my prey, but my partner Adrien staring up at me with wide, pleading eyes. They screamed for me to run.

I reached down to cut his bonds, but as I did, I felt the cold, hard press of a gun against my bare shoulders.

"You know, if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself." He muttered before pulling the trigger.
